As 2015 approaches, the battle for control of Lagos state between All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party becomes tougher. The importance of this strategic state has necessitated President Goodluck Jonathan' visit, on Sunday, for a close-door meeting with aspirants of the PDP to strategise on how to unseat the ruling party APC and bring the state under the umbrella.

Education / FOR UNDERGRADUATES: Tips For Financial Security While In School by john403: 8:12pm On Oct 05, 2014
Attending university can be a financially daunting due to the cumbersome expenses for tuition, textbooks, transportation, food and other responsibilities. However, there are a number of practical ways to curb various costs and avoid the constant panic of going broke. Here are a few ways to save and still have a pleasant university experience:

• Invest in Used Textbooks: Brand new editions of textbooks can be very expensive with some costing as much as N45, 000. You can, however, avoid these costs by purchasing used textbooks from the campus bookstore or your friends at a much cheaper price. Additionally, you can capitalize on the benefits of the digital age and obtain e-books via the internet. Majority of the e-books are available at subsidized costs so this should save you some bucks.

• .Patronise less expensive means of transportation: Using taxi cabs or even spending money on fuel for your car (if have one), can take quite a lot from your allowance. You can consider using the local bus or drive a bicycle to school in order to save transportation costs. Also, you can search for a classmate with a similar class schedule to yours and catch a ride with him/her every day to school.

• Cut cost of feeding: Various universities have meal plans for students and restaurants on campus. However, food from the restaurant and the campus meal plans can be quite costly. Thus, you can choose to purchase food from more affordable eateries off campus or cook on a budget with foodstuffs from the grocery store.

Politics / President Jonathan's Eid-el-kabir Message To The Nation by john403: 8:03am On Oct 04, 2014
EID-EL-KABIR MESSAGE TO THE NATION FROM GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN, GCFR, PRESIDENT, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, OCTOBER, 2014
Dear Compatriots,
I greet and felicitate with all our countrymen and women of the Islamic faith as we celebrate this year’s Eid-El-Kabir.
I also congratulate all believers who have successfully undertaken the Hajj this year as enjoined by Prophet Mohammed (May Peace Be Upon Him).
As they conclude the rites of the Hajj and prepare to return home, let us all join them in offering special prayers for greater security, peace, unity and progress in our dear country as well as for the peaceful and successful conduct of next year’s general elections.
With this week’s issuance of a formal notice of the impending general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), another national campaign season is now truly upon us and I urge all political leaders in the country to place the overriding interest of the well-being and progress of our fatherland above all other considerations in the coming campaigns and elections.
My administration has done its sincere best in the past four years to implement its agenda for national transformation and move our country forward on several fronts.

Politics / Why Presidency Is Victimizing Me - Kwankwaso by john403: 7:57am On Oct 04, 2014
The face-off between the Presidency and the Kano State government over the installation of the former Central Bank Governor, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the Emir of Kano is far from over as 50 policemen withdrawn from the Government House in the wake of the crisis, are yet to be returned to the governor.

Kwankwaso was alleged to have favoured Sanusi at the expense of the son of the late Ado Bayero who appeared the people’s choice. The protests in Kano shortly after Sanusi was announced was seen as a pointer to the claim that late emir’s son was preferred by the people.
But Sanusi who had battles with the Presidency over his allegations of missing oil money was installed and the Presidency was said to have frowned at the Kano State Governor. It was at the time that 75 policemen were withdrawn from the state out of which only 25 returned. The governor has said that the action would not help policing the state well in these times of insecurity. In his opinion, withdrawing the policemen amounted to victimisation.

AS Muslims across the country celebrate this year’s Eid El-Kabir, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP said that in the spirit of the festival, Nigerians must resist all vices that seek to weaken and tear the country apart.
In a statement signed yesterday by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, the Party also charged Nigerians to use the occasion to reflect on the virtue of faith and total submission to the will of the Almighty God as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim who was willing to sacrifice his only son, Ishmael in obedience to God’s command.
