I gave dis response with an incident I witnessed first hand @ NPC, lagos didn't I? Anyways, what harm would it do if u get it from ur state of birth if dt would put u on a safer side? D fact dt u n ur wife got ur visas inspite of dis dsnt mean it would be like dt for every oda person u know. Different strokes for different folks rem? Anyways, it is a matter of choice. I only gave my own contribution though. Besides, d guy like I said was applying for a German visa nt America. So, best of luck felas.

@ewhoma,I am not here to join issues with anyone after all myself and my family members already have our visas. I am a DV-2013 selectee and has since collected our visas. I am only here to share ideas based on official documents (US Govt Websites) that i read during my own time. I will be posting links to these write ups to help us understand the entire process better.

However, for knowledge sake, it is better we understand how some of these things work. As i stated earlier, National Population Commission (NPC) is a federal government body responsible for the registration of births and deaths in Nigeria - the reason why it exists in the 36 states of the federation. Unfortunately, the body does not have a national database where births and deaths are stored and that is why they rely on sworn affidavit from a competent court of law to issue the attestations. An affidavit is actually sufficient in some cases but the US prefers that we obtain the attestations. NPC will not issue any attestation without an affidavit or declaration of age from a court since they do not have records of birth prior to 1992 when the body was instituted. You can imagine advising someone to travel from Lagos to Adamawa for instance just to obtain an attestation letter that is based on an affidavit already issued by a law court. By all means if you happen to still be around where you were born , go ahead and obtain the attestation there else get it from your current base as this will not harm your application in any way. Please note that you will never be denied a visa for incomplete documentation. At the very worst, the CO will keep your visa till you return with the missing document. You will only be expressly disqualified if you have not complied fully with the DV instructions. No one knows it all and that is the essence of a forum so that people can share ideas.

@all, whatever that is shared on the forum is not final and i will always urge members to carry out their own independent investigations of an idea or experience before adopting same.

I rest my case.

Good Luck all.

akintunde95: pls i need somone to direct me to where to change my date of birth in my inernational passport.............

kevwe_flex: This is from VisaOfficer. Just felt we should know this prior to interviews, and I quote:

Good morning! We do recognize NECO results. Applicants must have 5 scores of 5 or better in 5 different subjects on the WAEC, SSCE, NECO, or NABTEB certified exams; or they can qualify with a BSC degree, HND, or OND from an accredited university or polytechnic institution.

The WAEC or NECO subjects must be academic subjects (for instance, English, biology, math, etc.). Trade subjects, such as plumbing or garment making, do not count for the DV program.

We really, really like it when applicants bring scratch cards so we can verify their results. smiley

Good luck!

Its actually 5 scores of "6" or better which is sufficient in itself to gain admission into a higher institution and not "5" or better.

ukemeglitter: Hello guyz!!!

Please there is this friend of mine that did this mistake on his Initial application

This is the mistake

Date of Birth: Day-09/month-10/Year-1992

INSTEAD OF:
Date of Birth: Day-09/month-09/Year-1992

Please guyz is this going to affect him anywhere? because the forms he submitted is carrying the correct one:
Date of Birth: Day-09/month-09/Year-1992

Please he needs your help!!!!!

This mistake is very common as we are used to the British date format in Nigeria. This will not cause visa denial anyway, however, do advise your friend to write KCC to get it corrected immediately or inform the CO on the interview date so it can be corrected as this will create problems for him in the future. Good Luck.

ukemeglitter: Thanks frnd,

but he is in PH does it mean he needs to go to Babs Animashaun Surulere Lagos to get it?

Your friend can obtain the attestation of birth from any state of the federation as NPC is a national body.
Travel / Re: DV 2014 Winners Meet Here by JohnMorgan(m): 1:10pm On Aug 31, 2013
ewhoma:
NPC should be in each of d 36 states of d federation I believe. If he needs to get an NPC cert, it would have to be from an NPC branch in his state of birth o. U can't claim u were given birth to in Delta state for example and come to Lagos state NPC office to collect a cert. Cos I witnessed d case of a guy @ NPC surulere d day I went for mine, who was applying for a German Visa n was sent bak 4rm d embassy because he claimed to have been given birth to in Lagos n collected his birth cert from NPC enugu. Pls, endeavor to have ur birth cert done in ur state of birth. (NPC office of cos)

This is wrong. NPC is a national body and is supposed to have a central database of all births in the country. This means that you can actually request for the attestation of your birth from any state of the federation irrespective of where you were born. I was born in the East and i got my attestation of birth here in Lagos. Likewise my wife was born in the North and got hers here in Lagos. Our visas were issued without any issues. Please obtain your attestation from where you are. You only need to come to Lagos for your Police Character certificate and Medical Examinations. Good Luck.

joexploit: @egbon morgan and other gurus in da house pls bail me out here. I need to know ao to monitor my visa so I don't go to d address and asked to check back due to d extreme nature of my current job. God favoured I and my family and we av five days to pick up d visas.

Secondly, please for 2014 and those awaiting 2013 interview, the CO understands dat dere are lots of errors in d application process, so just be bold and explain any error. If u are married get d pix ready and be ready to defend ur points. Also, never forget prayers cos God can do more dan u can imagine.

my wife's place of birth was wrongly captured durin application but we defended it during our interview and the CO smile and said "well it was just on d application" we were granted so cheers and let not ur hearts be troubled.

Congrats joexploit, the minimum number of days for your visa package to be available for pickup is five business days. As for me, mine was ready when i got to DHL on the fifth business day after my interview. However, you may decide to add two or three more business days to be double sure that your package will be ready when you get there.

I went 2 their office several times immediately d result was released & d error was made by them way bck BEFORE d certificate was printed.
They asked me to write letter and assured it wuld be corrected b4 d certificate is printed.
But it surprised me 2 see d error again wen d certificate was ready.
All subsequent effort has proved abortive & d officer in charge at their office in ibadan even advised that I swear Affidavit in an High court & continue 2 use it like dat. He explained it will cost me #10k 2 request a reprint & it may nt be ready till after 2-3yrs.
So Affidavit is d only option av got left.

Congrats to all forumites that have gotten their visas,i commit those that are yet to go for interviews into God's hand. Grace, favour and mercies of Almighty God shall go with you on those days.

There is no way to check the passport once it is uploaded. If you played the lottery by yourself, then you should still remember the passport you used else just continue praying that the person that played for you used the correct picture since this kind of issue will lead to outright disqualification.

It is difficult to predict the visa bulletin at times. For instance, 2012 was much faster than 2013 and most people became current by July or so. For a fair idea of when you could be called up for an interview, i will suggest that you review the bulletin for previous years and study the trend. The website address is http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/bulletin/bulletin_1360.html For now, continue to gather all required documents.

Good luck.

This is not a problem as the winner can go for interview and get the visa without the derivatives. Please note that it is not compulsory to immigrate with everyone listed in the initial entry. When asked at the interview, the winner has to explain why that is so. All documents supporting the principal applicants marital status has to be included as well. However, let it be known to the applicant that the beneficiary may not be able to join him soonest once she misses this opportunity. I will suggest that she applies for the visa and do a transfer program to complete her studies in the States or alternatively she can apply for a re-entry permit that can allow her to stay out of the States for an extended period of time after she has become a Permanent Resident.

Good Luck.

Dear Zeleez,

You must have made this mistake yourself during the registration period. I think the proper thing to do at this point is to stick to the correct arrangement when you go for your international passport, medical and NPC certificate else this will continue to create problems for you in the future. You only need to obtain an affidavit of name harmonization from the high court stating that JOHN CHRISTOPHER CHIBUIKE AND JOHN CHIBUIKE CHRISTOPHER refers to one and the same person. By doing this, you have taken a legal step to correct an inconsistency you observed in your name and not trying to modify existing documents to conform with your error. If questions arises, simply explain truthfully to the CO as we are humans and bound to make these kind of errors from time to time.

This is just my personal opinion.

Zeleez: House i need advice, am one of d lucky winners of 2014 lottery but in my notification letter d principal applicant name, my surname came first which should be followed by my first name and middle name, but it was written like this surname, middle name and first name. e g JOHN CHIBUIKE CHRISTOPHER instead of JOHN CHRISTOPHER CHIBUIKE. All my credentials from primary school to university level is bearing JOHN CHRISTOPHER CHIBUIKE, i have submitted my application form to KCC since 29th may wit my name as it appears in d selettee applicant name ie JOHN CHIBUIKE CHRISTOPHER plz wount this be a problem

Your case number is low and you will most likely be called for interview by sep/oct 2013. You can write KCC on KCCDV@state.gov or call the Public Inquiry Phone Number 606-526-7500 (7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EDT Monday - Friday)for more updates on your application. Please remember to quote your date of birth, case number and country of chargeability. When you become current, you will receive a notification from KCC to check the same link you checked when you were selected. Good luck.

Its all your choice anyway but not necessary. If you tracked your parcel and can confirm that it got there safely then you don't need to worry. Just keep checking the visa bulletin at http://travel.state.gov/visa/bulletin/bulletin_1360.html to know when you will become current.

Keep checking the bulletin at http://travel.state.gov/visa/bulletin/bulletin_1360.html and you will be invited for an interview immediately you become current. It all depends on your case number and when you submitted your visa application forms. KCC needs at least eight weeks to conclude processing of your case. Good luck.

Yes you can combine both. When you become current, you will receive a notification from KCC to check the same link you checked when you were selected. Proof of support or any form of financial capacity is not required for Nigerian applicants.
