Okay. 2011 and 2012 were good cos I was working and also acquiring some skills. Little by little I made some savings. I got an idea of studying abroad and I pursued it. I wrote GCE and got my result clean. But a big blow of disappointment was around then. I took SAT and TOEFL and scored high. Got admission with some sort of scholarship in Washington University (AERONAUTIC ENGINEERING) and Oral Robert University (ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING) but couldn't go due to financial Statement or Bank Statement. My guarantor disappointed me. So I lost everything. My moral to study went down. I managed to pick jamb form 2013 and scored 155 OAU. My score was useless for both poly and univ. I summoned courage and sit for jamb again this year and here I'm, in for Applied Geophysics. Though its not electrical engineering like my papa, I love it cos I it is different from what I know. I want to find out the composition of the PAST.

Continuation.
I only got the result of the 2004 WAEC the next year cos there was no money to either buy result checker or go to the school and collect the result.
Studying my books with no aim of going to school was what I did for some months. I never knew God's plan for me. I decided to use my siblings to do teaching practice. It worked. I started helping my neighbours to do math assignment. Sometimes I recieved a gift of money which I hand over to my mum so as to help her buy more food. I went to a man organising summer lesson for students. After teaching some students they were happy and that changed the story.
I decided to go to schools. I went to so many schools but I was rejected cos I had no relevant qualification. Finally I got to one, when I was asked my qualification I told them o'level, the person incharge said "there is no chance for you" I wanted to leave but my spirit told me to insist. I requested for a test. When I was tested I scored 20/22. They were amazed and confused. How to take an o.level holder as a teacher. Finally I was taken. I can still remember vividly what happened when I brought my first salary home. My mum danced and danced.
From my little savings and coupled with the fact that my immediate elder sis was in Poly Nekede, I decided to use my incomplete result and do Pre ND. I did the preND 2007 and passed. Then started OND in Science Tech. Completed it in 2010.

....throat cleared...
Ladies and Gentle men, standing on the existing protocols, I commend our main man TimmyTimmy. Stories so far are all encouraging. Before I start let me say this "THAT WHICH HAS BEEN IS NOW; AND THAT WHICH IS TO BE HAS ALREADY BEEN; AND GOD REQUIRES THAT WHICH IS PAST."

My parents: My papa was very good at engineering. Certified in Electrical Engr., Mechanical Engr., and mastered in what I don't know till date, he was a like a central man in NEPA and other companies in those days. From construction of Dams, installation of turbines, step-up transformers and national grids to installation of step-down transformer and house hold electricity, the guy was good. So my papa was guite enlightened . My mum is somehow contrast. She stopped school due to war and couldn't continue due to poverty.

My early life: I loved machines and things that have wire. I liked wires, making connections(wrong and right connections) just to see what happens. Maybe its because of my dad. Cos he often comes back home with some electrical devices and machines for troubleshooting and repair. Most times I work with him as little as I was then-helping him with tools I could carry. Unknown to him I was learning and my interest has developed toward his career type.
The day he realised my aim was when I tested some electric meters in his presence, though he was busy with some other devices when I did that. After telling him that I want to be like him-cos I've not known what engineering was then-he started restricting me from coming close to him when he's working. I thought it was for protection or safety, I never knew he had something else in mind.
Growing up, nobody talked to me about career cos they saw the direction I was going. But my papa said that none of his child will do his kind of work. Which means he don't want us to go into technology or engineering. Neither did he guide us to any other field. *you are on your own*
My mum would pray over whatever you've decided to be. She is calm.

My education: I grew up in different environments due to nature of my papa's job. Transfer here and there. So I did primary and secondary in different cities. This affected me due to change of teacher and environment. When you think you've already adapted to the school, transfer will come. And my papa no care. We all must go with him.
I no sabi book from primary to secondary. Not that I failed so badly but in a class of 20 you would never find me among the first 10. I got most of my promotions on trial. Yet my skills were there.
My papa began behaving somehow. He started becoming less concern with our education after his retirement. I did my secondary in a notorious public school where riot was order of the day. From JSS2 I and my friend started what is called "heepee". We would go to school in the morning and around 8 or 9am, we will leave through the back gate via the help of a senior. Both of us will wander around the city till 1pm or 2pm. *very bad* It continued like this till SS2 when our math teacher address the entire class. I picked interest in math but there was no text book. My papa bought me Chemistry, Math and Phy text book in my SS3. I changed circle of friends. I joined the bright fellows in my class then. But I was just an odd number in their midst. My hand writing was very bad, I was static. Yet I was influential; not that I had money-cos poverty don come our house then, I wasn't big in size- the smallest in their midst. I can't tell why.
My first SSCE was in the year 2003, 1 D7 and 8 f9. I decided not to show my papa the result. Unfortunately, towards the end of the year when I wanted to open up, the man joined his fathers.
By then God come open my head. I began to understand somethings. I started studying with understanding. So, from the money my mum got during the burial arrangement, I was able to register for another exam. I was coming up but the result was bad too. No english and math and other subjects. I had phy c6 and chem c5.
After his burial in the year 2004 abject poverty came.

Let me take some water. Brb

Timmytimmy:

Lemme describe using an analogy. If you were to ask an average American student to mention all the presidents of America and tell you about their lives....you'd be shocked to hear very inspiring stories, stories of men like Benjamin Franklin, great thinkers.
How many of us want to be like Ex-president Obasanjo? how many of us know the biography of Abacha?......we don't and we are right not to because these men didn't care about posterity, they didn't care about changing Africa.Sad news is that 98 percent of young people in Nigeria are walking in the footsteps of these older role models we have living around us.Like robots, we dream of going to school and living lives of comfort and that's all we dream of. We are too scared to dream , like everyone around has accepted the status quo, we just want to act out the script society has written for us.

Think about it.... embarassed
very clear. I have something to say about this. But not yet cos if I do, it will change the present Programme you instituted. So let the OAU FRESH 14 Programme continue, sir.

OMG...... cry I really don't know what to say, you've said it all.
First of all.....I never expected this idea to become realistic, people usually don't give out such private information hence a big thanks to everyone that has contributed thus far. Your reward isn't just in heaven,I believe it's here.

Reading some stories here actually made me emotionally shaken. It made me realise that even though WE are all different and we might not all be geniuses or not come from very dream inspiring backgrounds, God made sure everyone has a passion and a dream; a gateway to purpose.

Johnwills has already helped in giving a breakdown of everyone's story, thanks to him so I'll just say a few things more.I was talking to my bro this morning and he said something about most young people in Africa being "societal robots". We can be more, we can be bigger than we think.

Once again, thanks to everyone who has shared, even though I've not met most people here in person,I feel like I understand them more and I've been deeeeeeeeeply inspired.

Love the stories, please let's keep 'em coming....also, if anyone here has an inspirational story perhaps the story of Steve Jobs....fuel us! grin
What is societal robot?

Welcome back. The programme is still Testimony Time by TimmyTimmy. I'm Jwills your anchor this morning.
Oh my gosh! Different factors affecting our decision. I hope someone is getting some sort of encouragement. Yeah yeah! Let's keep it rolling.

Oh bless me! Babysmart wanted to be a doctor from the start. Faced with phobia for blood and hatred for physics, she moved to arts. Guided by Mum's advice, she went for law (change of direction) which is different from the initial passion and present passion (cookery).

Haydot95. I think using the physics term "scalar quantity" to describe you is acceptable. He wanted to be everything possible. Too much interest and full of skills. Art works his favorite. Later narrowed down to law but now in for Philosophy. Yet he lover Black and White things though he was silent with regards to parent's influence during his testimony. But he's yet to decide his path.

Davidmascot faced a serious early challenge of having no guide toward what to become. *this is serious, oh bless me!* He wanted to be everything just like Haydot95, but without a guide. In his testimony he didn't mention parent's influence so it could imply he was alone in choice making. Wrote jamb four times, having law in mind but now settled for English. My guy you try.

*THIS PROGRAMME IS BECOMING INTERESTING. SOME ARE PRIVILEGED TO HAVE PARENTS WHO WOULD WANT TO HELP THEIR CHILDREN MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION. TO SOME THEIR PARENTS ARE REDIRECTING THEM FROM THEIR PASSION. BUT I'M YET TO HEAR THE TESTIMONY OF THOSE THAT HAVE EDUCATED PARENTS BUT THEY WERE NEVER GUIDED BY THEIR LEARNED PARENTS* The Programme continues after this timeout. Keep it lock. I'm Jwills.

Welcome back. Its still Testimony Time by TimmyTimmy.

The longest testimony so far could be that of dora7891. She wanted to be a footballer or a runner. Mum's influence was visible in the first stage of her decision. She faced the challenge of change of environment. But later readapted to our system of edu. Daddy's influence came up-pointing towards medicine and engineering. But today, she's in for nursing which is different from her initial and final desire. Music things! I de your back my sis.

Understatement. This is one guy I wouldn't know what to extract from his testimony cos we share similar storyline. Mine could be worse that yours. But I thank God you are in for something good.

Rachie97's first desire was mass communication. Newscasting! Challenged by sciences, he moved to arts. No parental influence was mentioned and there was nobody to advice him. Went for NCE after failing to gain admission. But now he's in for English yet having a strong passion for Fashion Design- which is distinct from Newscasting.

DrNoimat0 planned to go for law. But was lucky to recieve advice from uncle to change to science. Phy and Chem were difficult then. But finally he's in something different from what he used to think's okay for him.

Dammytrager's first choice was engineering though the idea was inconsistent. Pushed to arts by older siblings but he returned for what he's passion for.

Just like TimmyTimmy our main man, Dejii01 loved electronics and technology in his early years. So he wanted to be an engineer. Mum's influence would have redirected him. But now he's in for engineering, yet having an eye for law.

TimmyTimmy settled for something quite different from his passion(writing) with little or no parent's influence and challenges.

Uumm's initial desire was to be a Med doctor. He was later devastated after failing to gain admission to study medicine. There was parent's influence. But he's in for his initial desire.

Chamaka01's first aim was to be a lawyer. Dad's decision was medicine but she was terrible in science subjects ; lost interest in biology. She's now in for medicine which is different from first aim and future target.

Stay tuned we'll be right back.
