Politics / Re: Give Betta Edu A Second Chance — Femi Pedro by joinnow: 8:09pm On Jan 10
adesegun121:
Olufemi Pedro, former Deputy Governor, Lagos State has described as unfortunate the circumstances Dr Betta Edu, the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, found herself and pleaded that she should not be consigned into the dustbin of history.

Chief Pedro in a statement noted rather sadly that what happened to the youthful minister can happen to any young person with limited experience in public life and urged Nigerians to give Betta Edu a second chance.

While stressing that the public is right in condemnation of the alleged maleficence reported at the Humanitarian Ministry, Chief Pedro said the lessons of the debacle must not be lost on all Nigerians , and especially the youth, adding that nobody should laugh at the 37- year old Minister.

“What happened to her could have happened to many of us whether by omission or commission”, Pedro said.

Despite the seeming misadventure, Chief Pedro maintained that the country needs more young people in position of authority, insisting that the error of one or two youth should not discourage that.

Pedro who described the suspended minister as his daughter, said the mistake made by Betta Edu should not be a reason to discard her and the contributions she made to the party and present administration.

He however advised young people who find them in position of authority to seek out mentors that guide them through banana peels often associated with public office. The Statement reads:

“I first met Betta when she was introduced to me as a candidate for Women Leader of our party in Abuja in early 2022. Shortly after, she was in Lagos on a courtesy visit and I immediately liked her style, her carriage and comportment. She exuded confidence, was articulate, knew what she wanted and appeared to me as focused, determined and ambitious. She later won the election and became the Party’s Women Leader.

“Betta worked very hard during the campaign. She was everywhere mobilizing women, campaiged with the Presidential Campaign team all over the country, and attended most of the events. We also traveled together to attend the Chattam House event where she was asked to respond to a question by our Candidate and she discharged herself creditably.

“I wasn’t surprised when she eventually became a Minister. Honestly, if I were the President, I would not have hesitated to also appoint her as Minister because she’s not too young to serve as Minister, she’s a qualified medical doctor, experienced enough as a former commissioner and women leader of our party, and has demonstrated drive, passion, and loyalty to qualify as a Minister.

This is where I disagree with those who are tagging her as too inexperienced, too young, and too green to be appointed Minister.

“We have all read about her wrongdoings and her suspension by the President and questioning by the EFCC.

“This is as it should be. I hope and pray that at the end of the day, she would have learned a hard lesson on how to conduct herself as a public officer and navigate the banana peels in the corridors of power.

“Betta Edu is like a daughter to me and I feel really sorry for her for the mess she finds herself in. I asked myself what if she’s my daughter? Would I disown her? She’s a promising bright star who could have served this nation in higher capacities.

“The nation needs more young people in public service and I hope her misadventure will not discourage others in her age bracket.

“My candidate advice to all young people who are called to service in public office is to seek out a mentor of a public officer serving or retired with some measure of credibility and good pedigree who will guide and mentor them on how to navigate the murky waters of public office.

“To us critics and commentators, I get it that we are genuinely shocked and angry as to the level of malfeasance we are witnessing in public service, but be aware that we should rather learn from her mistakes rather than laugh at her. What happened to her could have happened to many of us whether by omission or commission.

“Public service is a serious and sensitive business where your actions or inactions could have serious consequences for millions of citizens that you’ll never meet personally. Temptations, greed, and indiscipline could easily be your undoing especially if you are young, carefree, and with no one mentoring and guiding you.

“There are still many young, smart, focused, and dedicated young men and women out there who are interested in public service at the leadership level not because of the attraction of free money and power but for the genuine desire to serve the country and the people. I urge you not to be discouraged but to continue to pursue your dream. The nation needs you”.

Hussain Na’abba, a close associate to the former speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, has disclosed that the ex lawmaker died without a house in any part of the country.
14 Things To Know About Former Reps Speaker Ghali Umar Na’Abba
Naija News recalls that Na’Abba died on December 27, 2023, in Abuja after a protracted illness and was buried the same day according to Islamic rites.

According to Daily Nigerian, Na’Abba’s associate, in an interview on Hausa podcast programme, “Rigar Kaya”, said the former speaker did not have a house in Kano but squatted at his mother’s house during any visit.

The associate stated that the speaker of the 8th Assembly struggled to settle his medical bills and left only N250,000 in his bank account despite his position in the country.

He added that Na’abba refused to illegally amass wealth due to his conviction of living a modest lifestyle and protecting the interests of the masses.

While acknowledging the support from friends and former colleagues of the former speaker, Hussain Na’abba said the life of Na’abba should serve as a lesson to Nigerians and public officeholders.

He said, “He died without a house in Kano, Abuja, or Kaduna. His bank account also shows he had only N250,000 before he died. And after his Kano home was burnt by hoodlums, he squatted at his mother’s house whenever he visited Kano.

“Ghali’s ideology was pro-masses, and he always had good intentions towards his people. He’s also someone who committed everything he did to the hands of God.

“But since the government sponsored some Kano citizens to perpetrate violence against him and even burned his house, he became reluctant to build another one. He was shocked to see that the masses he protected and loved dearly rewarded him with arson.

“And despite the disappointment and heartbreak, that never hindered his ideology of serving the people until his death.”

Career / Re: What Are The Disadavantages Of Studying Medicine At Age 29 by joinnow: 1:53pm On Dec 28, 2023
Jackanda1:
After trying medicine 3 times. I had to settle for a science course. I'm currently done with my first degree, NYSC and doing a little job by the side.

The thing is, i want to go back to medical school. I have a burning desire to study medicine, i dream about it everyday and would be rather unfulfilled if i don't study medicine.

The questions i have are:

1. I intend to start my study in my late 20s. Hopefully 28,29,or at 30years old.

2. What are the disadvantages of studying medicine and graduating in my late 30s.?

3. How is employment at that age?

What are the difficulties i should expect?

Be brutally honest. Thanks

Go with the flow... I see no disadvantage.
Since you said you have a burning desire for it. That burning desire is what will help you persevere when you face challenges and keep you going.

I am planning to start 3D printing business in Nigeria.

I also bought my first 3D printer after a lot of struggle. It's not easy to buy 3D printer here to be honest.

The another problem I was facing is to buy Filament for my 3D printer. But I have got the solution to buy PLA filament like this one https://abhi3d.com/pla-filament

Now I am following some guide and have printed few items.

I am still confused, did I make the right decision? Is there any chance people in Nigeria will be interested in buying 3D printed.

Please let me know what you think of new technology.
Already you have gotten the machine. Which is the wrong way to start a busines.

Dimplebabe:
Celine Dion, the legendary singer known for her powerful voice and soulful ballads, has made a big comeback after being diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) in December 2022.

On October 31, 2023, Celine made her first public appearance in three years at a Montreal Canadiens hockey game in Las Vegas. She was accompanied by her sons, René-Charles, Nelson, and Eddy, and she appeared vibrant and energetic as she posed for photos and mingled with the players.

Celine’s SPS diagnosis forced her to postpone her Courage World Tour in May 2023, but she has been working hard to build back her strength. In an Instagram post announcing the cancellation of her tour, Celine wrote, “I’m not giving up … and I can’t wait to see you again!”

Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) is a rare neurological disorder that causes muscle stiffness and spasms. The spasms can be triggered by noise, touch, or even emotional stress. SPS can make it difficult to walk, talk, and eat.

What thing I still don't understand is how can you be sacked from a company you co-founded? sad

Sometimes, even if you start a company with others, there might be times when things don't work out well between everyone. Imagine you and your friends start a club, but later on, if one friend is not following the club's rules or doing things that upset everyone, the others might decide that person should leave the club. Similarly, in a company, if one of the people who started it isn't doing their job well or is making big problems, the others might decide it's better for them to leave.

Just make sure you get complete papers and double check the engine and chasis number are correct on your documents. Some time Roadsafety and internal revenue guy make silly mistake when filling those number and figures.
