Plants were created and seed bearing trees etc and then God "revealed" the sun to the earth or better yet, he removed the cloud he covered the earth with according to the book of Job so plant life can become self sustaining via photosynthesis.

Its too organised and simple not to see. God did not need the light to create as he is light himself. The light aka the sun was meant for use by the earth and had no use for him as God.
