President Muhammadu Buhari pledged Friday, 4th December 2015 in Johannesburg that his administration will take necessary action to correct lapses which have hindered the implementation of agreements signed with China under past administrations for the development of rail transportation in Nigeria. Speaking at bilateral talks with President Xi Jinping at the Forum of China-Africa Cooperation, President Buhari said that the Federal Government will strive to fulfil Nigeria’s obligations under the agreements as their implementation will help to boost the country’s economy and generate thousands of new jobs. “I have looked into the previous agreements and we will now keep our part of the bargain,” President Buhari assured President Xi Jinping. The President applauded China’s on-going support for the development of Nigeria’s agricultural sector, noting that Chinese advisers deployed to some states of the federation were helping to train farmers on water conservation and the use of more productive seeds. President Jinping described Nigeria as a very important ally of China in Africa, saying that the two countries need to boost their bilateral relations, for the good of their citizens. He said that China was keen to work with Nigeria for the mutual benefit of both countries. At the opening session of the summit attended by President Buhari and more than 30 other African leaders, the Chinese President had pledged $60 Billion Dollars of new development aid to African countries. Press statement from the office of the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo… The Muhamadu Buhari administration is interested in using technology to fast track the country’s growth and development, according to Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN Speaking yesterday while signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Federal Government and Global Good Fund co-founded by US billionaire, Bill Gates, the Vice President said the administration “is interested in the idea of using technology because it is the way forward for those interested in rapid growth in the next decade”. He noted that the President has said that this administration is committed to a bottom-up approach and technology is a tool that can help make the difference. According to him, “I am interested in this whole idea of using technology to address some of our challenges”, especially in agriculture and health, adding that there is no alternative to the use of technology. Present at the signing ceremony were the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Audu Ogeh; Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole and that of Budget and National Planning, Mr. Udoma Udo Udoma. Flanked at the sides by the Ministers at the MoU signing, the Vice President emphasized the importance of technology as a means of adding value and improving the lives of millions of people. He said “we are at a point where technology is important for making a difference in the lives of the people”. For instance, he said there is the need to develop specific technology solutions that can target low level subsistence farmers, small, micro and medium enterprises with the resultant effect of impacting lives. However, he further noted that “the challenge is how to ensure that these initiatives and innovations will benefit the majority of the people”. While commending the initiative to engage with the Global Good in the effort, the Vice President charged the partners to ensure that measurable targets are set in order that tangible results can be achieved. “I think we should be able to set targets, to have useful interaction in terms of how much we are able to achieve; this target should be on a scale, for instance, in the next one or two years. It should be based on measurable targets to keep our focus”, Prof. Osinbajo explained stressing that “at the end of the day, it will mean we’ve impacted so many millions of people”. Earlier, Mr. David Keogh, the Director of Global Good Fund, who signed the MoU on behalf of his organisation and led the Fund’s delegation, said the Fund is on a social mission to deploy technology in the area of agriculture and healthcare that will impact many people in Nigeria. He stated that the company working in collaboration with multi-lateral agencies, non-profit organisations and governments, engages in identifying challenges in different value chains and provide technological solutions to these value chains. The MoU signed between Nigeria and Global Good will provide the framework for identifying the specific challenges in identified sectors such as in agriculture and healthcare and provide the necessary technological solutions to impact the lives of the people. Global Good is funded by Bill Gates. Laolu Akande Senior Special Assistant (Media & Publicity) In the Vice President’s Office

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is known for many things stemming from his long time at the helm of affairs of Africa’s most populous nation. However, apart from the late Stella Obasanjo, and former senator Iyabo Obasanjo, a lot of people do not know much about the former leader’s family. New reports have surfaced about one Obasanjo’s many children, a Dare Obasanjo. Dare Obasanjo is one of the former president’s older children who is based in the US, and works for Microsoft. He is apparently married to a white woman with children. There is no telling that Dare Obasanjo is a carbon copy of his father.

The Lagos State Safety Commission has shut the multi-billion multi-national shopping outlet, Shoprite located at the Ikeja Shopping Mall, Ikeja, Lagos, for allegedly breaching safety laws. Officials of the commission were said to have stormed Shoprite on Friday afternoon and drove everyone out and sealed off the massive premises, placing a seal order at the entrance. The seal order notice read: "Sealed: This premises has been sealed following the breach of safety law. This seal must not be broken. For further enquiries, contact the Commission." On Friday night, many customers who did not know that the place had been shut were stranded outside the premises. However, a source in the commission told reporters that the place was shut for failing to abide by the safety laws of the state. The source said there had been complaints by members of the public about adulterated and expired products being sold in the outlet, adding that investigation was also carried out before the place was shut. Investigation revealed that some products that were supposed to expire in one month's time were found on the shelves of Shoprite in Ikeja. A customer, who craved anonymity, said she once bought expired milk at Shoprite, saying that the closure of the outlet was long overdue. There have also been complaints by others about expired products at various Shoprite outlets. Officials of Shoprite have been asked to report at the commission's office on Monday while the outlet remains shut throughout the weekend.

Since the allegations of raped against him by Sugabelly surfaced, Mustapha Audu had kept quiet amidst the whole storm due to the mourning period he and his family are going through as a result of the unfortunate death of their patriarch Prince Abubakar Audu. . Mustapha Audu has released a statement as regards the allegations. Below is the Official statement ....... 'I am shocked and disturbed about these allegations I categorically deny the allegations of rape whilst admitting to a consensual relationship. I wish to exonerate my brothers and friends of any wrong doing. I wish to thank my friends and family for their support as we grieve the loss of our father barely a week ago. It is unfortunate that we have to respond to these sort of wild and malicious lies at this time,This is a case of a very troubled young lady who had been stalking me and had at many times in the past tried to contact and blackmail me. she had initially started this a while back, but we chose not to respond out of respect for ourselves and our loved ones. We tried to ignore this as we neither wished to get involved in her fictitious stories nor join issues with her. However events of the past few days has compelled me to defend my honour even in my mourning period as the emails will later show. These are some of the excerpts from the emails: "Mustapha.. basically, I just miss you a lot. I don't know why.. I mean I do know why but I can't explain why I stop breathing every time I hear your name, even if it's not about you" "I don't know why I decided to call you. It's been four months since I last heard you speak. I guess I knew to hear you would make me happy, so I did Say hi to Bashir for me, and to Abdul. Call me Mona" "you opened the door nearest to me on the ground floor.. Balked when I saw the bed.. I've never been good with beds... they scare me... visions of violent rape flood my brain and I get goosebumps... it's like having no air.. there are reasons for that... perhaps you'll find out later" She later said to me that she was raped by her mother then boyfriend at a very tender age, you can now imagine my dismay at reading all her accusations. I would like to ask, 'what kind of society do we live in when you are grieving the loss of your father and at the same time some opportunistic blogger is trying to unnecessarily capitalize on this sensitive period in my life to taint me, my family and friends. Sadly the teeming public without any evidence whatsoever or benefit of doubt join the bandwagon of criticism. I believe the court of public opinion as well as the legal courts will see these stories as false and malicious and declare me innocent. I hate to think that this is an opportunist move and I would like to put this ugly incident behind me as we continue to mourn. I have spoken to my lawyer on the best way to handle this matter, thank you. Mustapha Audu.
