I think we are pretty much on the same page then.We just use words differently to explain some details but the points aren't that far off. Goel: What else I'm saying? Stability, Capitalism with socialist foundation and connectivity.
Depends upon flexibility of policies. China and India are officially socialist states, are running more capitalistic economies than many European countries. Russia ones global symbol of socialism is ran by Oligarchs.
Don't confuse switching with diversification.
UAE is actually diversifying its economy to foray into wide range of sectors while KSA is only trying to switch from one product to other. Reason is that 4 countries, US, China, India & Japan consume more oil than rest of world combined. They all have targets to eliminate petroleum based ICE engines from their countries and run electric cars in next 2-3 decades. Even if they are 30% successful in their task, countries dependent upon oil will land in great crisus.
Another example would be Bangladesh vs India. India is dependent upon wide range of services and products for its economy while Bangladesh is on textiles. In short term, Bangladesh even pegged better growth than India. But on 20 years average, India has been and is projected to remain better as it is immune to economic recession one particular sector.
Now, in context of industrialization and mass production, bigger countries have advantage to produce in multiple sectors in bigger number. |

He's a big name in Kenya and everywhere. He was a big buddy to our second president Daniel Arap Moi. I once stumbled across this article that tells much about his friendship with Moi; https://mobile.nation.co.ke/news/mandela-was-secretly-treated-in-kenya/1950946-3489470-wijky8/index.htmlQuoting the article as by the words of Mr Kalonzo Musyoka once Kenya's vice president- “I first met Mandela in dramatic circumstances in 1990. I was then Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly. He had just been released from prison in April that year. I had gone to State House for a meeting with Moi. Before we could even start our meeting, Moi received information that was rather urgent. He told me: ‘Forget the meeting. Mandela is very sick, he is coming and I don’t want any media or cameras. We must organise for his hospitalisation’.” “The icon had been taken ill while on a visit to Addis Ababa. We sped to Jomo Kenyatta Airport with Moi. I was driving behind his small convoy. There was no fanfare; nothing special; no song and dance. No journalists and photographers. It was just Moi, the medical staff and I. “There was a stretcher and other medical equipment in an ambulance. I expected to see Mandela wheeled out of the plane. To our surprise, he walked out of his plane; tall, majestic but looking frail. He was escorted to the Nairobi Hospital where he was attended to by Moi’s personal physician, Dr David Silverstein. He did not stay at the hospital for long. I think Dr Silverstein just attended to him and monitored him overnight. The following day, he was driven back to the airport and flew back to South Africa. Once again, there was no fanfare. “Later in July, Mandela returned to Kenya with his wife Winnie. This time it was an official visit. One of the events Mandela was involved in was laying a wreath at the mausoleum of Kenya’s founding father, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, at Parliament. I recall him joyfully pointing at me while saying: ‘You, I remember you.’ He was referring to the Nairobi Hospital incident.” XhosaNostra: Hahaha. He was a "fashionista" of his time. |

I get it That was some haircut by Mandela! XhosaNostra: I know lol.
But still he needs to be corrected.
The Khoisan DNA is more apparent in Nelso Mandela. But we mostly tend to have light skin tone & small noses Some have the eyes but not all. |

I'm just saying-a wall has more chances of listening to you! XhosaNostra: You're mad. Khoisan & Zulu people don't represent every tribe in South Africa. Why do earlier accounts refer to the Xhosa people as the "red blanket people" if we wore animal hide? I already told you before that we no longer have pure Khoisans in South Africa. The only trace of them in South Africa is found in the DNA of Xhosa, Tswana & some Coloured people. |

1.My point was-Stability.Security is key.I don't know if Boko Haram can kick more ass than Al shabab. But Alshabab or any other group a threat to us shouldn't be given any chances. 2.Kenya identifies itself as a capitalistic state.Well,I guess there are levels of how capitalistic we are.But that's the point! 3.Countries should look forward to diversify a bit, look at Angola with a much lesser population than Kenya which has been 'found out' in the now global oil crisis. It's now that it wants to diversify.I guess, there are levels at how we should be diversified.I think we shouldn't have less than four key 'revenue pots'! Goel: Well may be, I just don't know about Nigeria. We may come to know from ECI Index in next 5 years.
As I told before, those are not your shortcomings but results of shortcomings. As per capita incomes of country's called "poor" is mostly below $2,000 and wealth below $10,000 which is real shortcoming. These are problems arose in long term. So, will be solved in long term. India took 24 years to bring down its slum population from 63% in 1991 to 24% in 2015. Although its rank bad in hunger (because Indians are underweight and have lack of protein being vegetarians and not because they can't afford food).
Redistribution of money or forced improvement of these things only gives short lived solutions.
Very basic thing, if people can afford to live at good place, why would they live at slums? When there will be infrastructure, why will any place become slum?
Al Shabab isn't as powerful as Boko Haram. It's not that influential. As for difference between Kenyan & Bangladeshi Socialist vs Chinese & Indian Capitalist models, study this: http://atlas.cid.harvard.edu/rankings/growth-projections/ Economic diversification may not be that effective in a low income + low population country like Kenya but Nigeria can implement it definitely.
I'm just saying its suitable for Nigeria. Let's see because you went deep into same what I said.
Capitalism
It is "how you are going to do it" and to what extent. Congo keeps multiplaying its population which is a problem while Japanese population decline is actually causing poverty to re emerge. Country's like Argentina, developed in past are now becoming developing countries. What could be the reason?
There are three kinds of people in any society, 1. Kids 2. Adults 3. Olds Only adults are upon which nation is dependent. Rest 2 are dependent upon their parents/children/government for taking after pension.
Developed countries aren't growing anymore and having demographic dividend like them isn't going to help Africa.
Be clear, those are other human development indicators. You are talking about poverty which is lack of money. So, poverty has only thing to with money. Increasing money in system boosting per capita incomes and then heading to a wage lead economic growth.
Stability |

Let's say this 99 averages for like a week, the economy is going to feel it.I mean, the 99-102 range is big,any range of plus one shilling is felt by importers as millions are saved. Even ranges of some tens of cents are felt because the amounts being talked about here are in billions ksh.Our petroleum import bill accounts for like 15-20% of our total import values. If it hangs at 99 for some weeks or days, all eyes will be on ERC as Kenyans would be expecting cheaper thermal power ! The inflation might actually fall a bit if the trend persists.Let the truth be said,we've missed it being at 99 as opposed to 101 and 102! rvp2018: I assume about 1/3 of that 4.5B is foreign -denominated debt - I think Kshs stability makes this non-issues. The Kshs is expected to be stable around 100. And that is one of kenya greatest strength - stable marco-economic policy - so really nobody is concerned about this - it's probably going to hang around there 100-102 for this year - like it did last year.

Debt obligations this year should be about 4.5 billion US dollars. With a strong shilling, this should be good news to Mr Rotich!
Let's hope they won't be thinking of more Eurobonds because of this. This is the best time to import more and more crude, machinery and cars among others! I expect a temporary hit on our export and import balance as importers seek to gain on this strong shilling by importing more! rvp2018 |

Apologies taken. I guess Nigeria can follow this path.I just can't see some of these suggestions being implemented here(in Kenya). But point one and two can and maybe five! We have the Al shabab menace on our part that I agree must be dealt with! Goel: This is easier than you guys think. 1. Stabilize the country (kill Boko haram like we crushed insurgencies). 2. Try to pull people out of agriculture to industrial & service sector. 3. Keep your wages initially lower than other countries. It will automatically go up when your products being cheap will start selling and their demand increases. 4. Remove most duties from exports & imports. Let your currency fall & reach its real value. 5. Define the level of poverty in your country's standards (not international standards) like $0.25 to $0.5 /day /person and first try to guarantee this income at least to poor population. Because our incomes are low, definition of Rich & Poor people are different totally in Europe, Asia & Africa.
