‘Why I chose Loscuito, Aloy Agu’

New Super Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh, has given reasons for choosing his Belgian and Nigerian assistants.

Speaking during his unveiling in Abuja yesterday, the former Super Eagles captain declared, “I think I need to explain to you why I chose a foreigner as my assistant. We have to bring an expatriate to serve and contribute to the growth of sports in Nigeria and I told the NFF president that Jean Francois- Loscuito will be of huge help in this enormous task. We need a foreigner who is ready to work and one who is hungry for victory, an expatriate who knows Africa and ready to acclimatise.

“We need Salisu Yusuf desperately because we need somebody who knows the league because our aim is to work with local players. We also need Aloy Agu because of his calmness as a goalkeeper trainer that will also give technical input.

“Jean Francois has coaching stints in Africa, with Togolese club, Anges de Notse and led the team during their CAF Champions League games against Enyimba earlier in the year, and also ASFA Yennenga of Burkina Faso.”

How Sunday Oliseh Can Help as Nigeria's New Manager

Sunday Oliseh has enough independence to bring about genuine change within the Nigerian national team.
There is something immediately refreshing about Sunday Oliseh. He belongs to that extremely rare breed of retired Nigerian international footballers who have not sat around waiting for opportunities. Instead, they've added a sound education to their natural talent.

Patrick Ekeji, Segun Odegbami, Adokiye Amiesimaka and Seyi Olofinjana are some of the few who also belong to this very exclusive club. Don't get me wrong; this is in no way to be confused with ex-footballers, especially those of the recent generation, who made a boatload of money during their careers and are subsequently well set up.

Ekeji rose to be (and retired as) a senior civil servant, with a stint as national coach sandwiched somewhere in between. Odegbami has built himself a successful media career among other things, and Amiesimaka blends a distinguished legal career with football administration. Olofinjana is among the youngest of the lot but was foresighted enough to combine a football career with earning a degree in chemical engineering, and is now involved with media work.

After accusations of a "mafia" at play in Nigerian football, in which players were labelled as undisciplined and made into outcasts, it would have been easy to slink away into the dark. And many did. But not Oliseh. In the years since his exile in 2002, he has taken the time, put in the effort and spent money to rebuild his reputation, expand his scope and become one of the most respected former players in the world game.

Turned away twice when he put himself forward to manage the team he played for, the job has finally landed on his lap at a most opportune moment. He comes into the Super Eagles post burdened by the same stratospheric expectations that accompanied the appointments of his former teammates. First Samson Siasia, and then Stephen Keshi.

It would not be a stretch to say that Oliseh will enjoy a honeymoon period, the duration of which will be in direct proportion to results and performances. (Nigeria play Tanzania in September and Egypt in March as part of African Nations Cup qualifying, with some friendlies yet to be scheduled throughout the rest of 2015.) But he can go some way toward stemming that tide of vituperation.

Here are the areas where his predecessors stumbled so that Oliseh can avoid the same pitfalls.

1. Selection by merit and nothing else
Almost every indigenous coach who has managed the Super Eagles in the post-Clemens Westerhof years (long regarded as one of the nation's best-ever coaches from 1989-1994) has come under fire for dodgy selection decisions, from Amodu Shuaibu to Adegboyega Onugbinde, through Christian Chukwu, Austin Eguavoen, Samson Siasia and Stephen Keshi.

While some (like Chukwu) have been benignly attributed to incompetence, others, like Siaisa and Keshi, have been less fortunate. Incidentally, one of the reasons provided for Keshi's dismissal was the invitation and suiting up of an amateur player.

This is a problem that should be easily addressed. In his first press conference, Oliseh stated unequivocally that only players playing in the top division at home and abroad will get called up. The only exceptions, according to him, would be standout players from the country's cadet teams. If he keeps to his word, and there is no reason to suggest he won't, that would be one major hurdle surmounted.

2. Balance in the starting XI
Despite failing to qualify for the Nations Cup and earning the sack in the process, Siasia's team entertained and scored plenty of goals. It might explain why many fans have called for his reinstatement after Keshi was fired. However, it is perhaps that chaotic philosophy that ultimately cost him. In the one game (against Guinea) when his team needed to be reined in and play ugly football in order to get a result, Siasia allowed the same reckless mentality to rule.

His team conceded a costly goal, and the rest is history.

The Super Eagles have been lax and reckless in recent years. Oliseh will be expected to bring sense and structure.
Oliseh will have to find a balance between swashbuckling attacking football and sensible defending. He has the tools at both ends of the pitch. Ahmed Musa, Odion Ighalo, Brown Ideye and Obafemi Martins form a strong attacking corp, while Vincent Enyeama, William Troost-Ekong, Kenneth Omeruo and Elderson Echiejile are a solid foundation in defence.

3. Transparency
Secrecy could pass as the word for Nigerian coaches and officials. The criteria for player selection, team sheets (usually released right before games kick off), tactics (coaches rarely discuss their plans) and training sessions (most sessions are closed to outsiders, including media); everything is treated with some cult-like stealth.

Oliseh left the national team in 2002 with his reputation in tatters. He returns more mature and accommodating. His responses at the press conference showed a man willing to move on from his past, as he should be.

Team call-ups should be given out at properly organised press conferences with the press allowed and even welcomed to question his selection choices. Team sheets must come on time and training sessions do not have to be cloaked with the clandestine suppression of a covert operation.

But this is a two-way street and the media must also start by giving him a blank sheet.

4. Team dispute resolution
Onigbinde fell out with players. Austin Eguavoen fell out with players. Samson Siasia fell out with players. Keshi fell out with players. It is normal for coaches and senior players to have disagreements. How sterile the dressing room would be without disagreements.

It is how these internal disputes are resolved that makes or breaks the team. All of the previous issues were spectacularly public, most notably Siasia's fallout with Peter Odemwingie, which went viral on Twitter. What Oliseh needs to do is make clear to his players what his expectations are for them. In the event that disputes arise, they should be resolved in-house without the need to go public.

Stephen Keshi faced endless criticism for the handling of player relations. Oliseh must be fair and transparent.
And it is not just about the team, either; it is also in his relationship with his employers. Disagreements are better resolved internally. That is the only way to get the media to focus on the team.

Nigerian football fans argue their positions passionately without the inconvenience of letting facts get in their way. Most of these positions derive from sensational headlines. Minimise these headlines, and half the problems are solved.

Equally, few top African football federations have given their local coaches and former internationals the sort of backing that Nigeria have in the past 15 years. Of the 11 coaches employed by Nigeria since 2002, nine have been indigenous and five of those were ex-internationals. Only Berti Vogts and Lars Lagerback have come from abroad.

With the game getting more immersed in the digital times, Oliseh represents almost the last great frontier for ex-internationals in Nigeria. He is technologically savvy, highly credentialed, knowledgeable in the game and appears driven.

Yet he is almost condemned to succeed, as one suspects that failure from him may see that door shut against his peers. Oliseh is the man genuinely wanted by the NFF. They got their wish. In fact, they were even forced to defend his appointment just hours before he was to be presented.

Now, Oliseh bears the burden, not only of expectations from the fans or the struggle to prove that his employers made the right decision. He's also a torchbearer for his fellow ex-internationals.

No pressure, then.

Nigeria appoint Sunday Oliseh as new coach

https://newngrguardiannewscom.c.presscdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/oliseh.jpg

Nigeria on Wednesday appointed Sunday Oliseh as coach on a three-year contract.
Oliseh said it was an honour to lead the Super Eagles, but warned that he alone was not capable of turning around the country’s footballing fortunes.

“It a great honour to be coach of this nation,” he said at a media presentation in Abuja Wednesday.

“First of all, I am not coming as a Messiah. I am not coming as a man who can single handedly turn Nigeria into Germany.

“I am coming in to do my best and give, if possible, 150 percent all the time.

“The state we are now in in Nigeria I think we are all not happy with. Gone are the days we have individual players who can single handedly win a match for you. But we have the potential and that is our belief and the players must know that it’s an honour to be invited to the national team.”

Amaju Pinnick, president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), praised Oliseh.

“Today is another historic day in the history of Nigeria football. Today we have been able to present the Pep Guardiola (Bayern Munich coach) of Africa,” Pinnick remarked.

“We know that Sunday Oliseh can deliver. Talking to Sunday Oliseh, we are very excited, about his advancement. On the field we have not been able to have a replacement for him.

“As a member of the FIFA technical study group, he is vastly travelled and trained.

“I can assure you that we are going to have one of the best coaches Nigeria ever had.

“On behalf of the federation we will give him 100 percent support. We will follow all the clauses of this contract.”

Former Nigeria international skipper Oliseh, 40, has replaced Stephen Keshi, who was sacked recently for a breach of trust.

Oliseh played for several top European clubs including Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax Amsterdam as well as featuring at two World Cups with Nigeria.

He also won Olympic gold in 1996 as well as the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994.

Oliseh holds a UEFA pro coaching license and is a member of the FIFA technical study group.

The immediate tasks for the new Nigeria will be a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away in Tanzania in early September as well as a friendly some days later.

“There is no time to waste. The team have important matches to play in the next few weeks and it is imperative that Oliseh starts work immediately,” NFF general secretary Mohammed Sanusi said.

Sunday Oliseh is someone whom I have loved from when I started to watch him play. My most memorable goal of him is the screamer against Spain at the France '98 World Cup.

Since his retirement, I have come to even love him more. Unlike his peers, he went back to school to study Economics and has become an intellectual in the Football World. A member of the FIFA Study group whose fellow members hold in high esteem including the reknown Ruud Gullit. I love to watch him analyse football matches and all that pertains to the Nigerian Football scene.

Yesterday, he was unveiled as the Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria and I wish him the very best.

Here will be an avenue to follow all his activities as the Coach of the Super Eagles.

Welcome and enjoy the ride!

A man with a certain genetic make up eats lots of food with high protein and grows very tall.

A man with the exact same genetic trait for height eats food with less protein and doesn't grow as tall.

What is the essential true height for that genetic trait?

In other words, Do genes determine your core self or does it just provide you with a range of possibilities?

NB. Genes are not primal urges.

NB. I'm being hypothetical when I say of genetics, 'Let us take that as the adamant core'.
Let me twist your logic a lil:

A man with a certain genetic for shortness eats lots of food with high protein and is still short.

A man with the opposite genetic trait is malnourished and still grows taller than the privileged short kid.

Genes are the core of the individual. It is like a bucket. The society and situations determine how filled or otherwise it will be. They work hand in hand and one is not essentially more important than the other.

The potential is the core. How much of the potential you fulfill depend on alot of factor both within and outside of your control as you go along in life.

Maslow's hierarachy is derailing from my point. I'm suggesting that if there is an essential character to a person, an innate core, then Society's values can detract him from that and while he becomes a model citizen of that society he will have an deep sense of discontent.

What can be more of an innate core of a person than his GENETIC makeup? And this is where the nature (genes) vs nurture (society) question arises again?

Isn't it possible for a man to raise above the this-is-just-the-way-I-am syndrome and still be remarkably better off? Or are we always at the mercy of our 'essential character' such that it alone determines our ultimate happiness?

Nigeria's Musa Mohammed has said he is overwhelmed by the special welcome party staged by the fans of his new Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir FK.

Thousands of fans decked in the club's bright orange colours and chanting songs staged a special party to welcome the Flying Eagles skipper into their club.

Musa, who was solid in his first full training with his new club, later signed hundreds of autographs and joined in the energetic song and dance.

He was later carried shoulder high by the partisan supporters. "I just could not believe how the fans welcomed me, they made me feel really wanted. It was incredible, I have never experienced anything like this in my life," the defender told AfricanFootball.com

"The fans love their football, in short they are crazy about football, and they always want their club to win.

"I want them to keep giving me and the rest of the team such support, which can only make us to do more for the club." The right fullback will join the rest of the squad in Holland on Tuesday for pre-season training.

Musa has signed a three-year contract with the Turkish Super League club, who will feature in the UEFA Europa League in the coming season.

There comes a time in a man's life, when he must stand for his convictions and fearlessly defend the same without violence. When I first decided to lend my voice to the struggle for the mental emancipation of our people, it was not an easy choice. I lost friends, alienated acquaintances and disturbed many valuable relationships. But I was brought up to courageously speak up for the truth and fight for what is right irrespective of the cost.

Many have wondered what changed about me. The truth is, nothing changed! Except that I stopped being afraid. I removed the many mental chains that held me captive to fear and dogma. I stepped out of religion and ignorance, I chose to think and reason, and that changed everything.

That is why today I speak against religion, because it is based on falsehood, fear and indoctrination. I detest it more because it contributes significantly to the under-development of our people, even if it is itself a PRODUCT OF OUR UNDERDEVELOPMENT. So I chose to fight it. I chose to confront the culture of FEAR and IGNORANCE. To set an example that no one and nothing is beyond scrutiny.

I have tried to fight on the side of truth, of knowledge, of enlightenment and of freedom, because I believe these are timeless values that will outlive any race or religion. I fight because I believe my convictions will birth a better society and a better world for the coming generation. I speak and lend my name to this struggle because I am convinced the fight is just and imperative. I have tried very hard to make people think on these long held beliefs; I have been witty, funny, sometimes combative, seemingly provocative but at all times respectful of the right of others to hold their views.

Today, I am proud of whatever contribution I have made and of whatever I have achieved in this pursuit. I am proud of the few I have inspired, of the few I have helped to think and become better, and of the few I have encouraged in their own path.

THE PAEDOPHILE ARGUMENT

I was chatting with a muslim friend today and she probed me on my stance on the homosexuality case that has been ruled in the US. I told her exactly what I said in one of my posts here. I dont care what happens between two adults that are mutaully consenting to each other. Like most religionists, she poured her displeasures on why God hates it and then added another of the silly arguments I have heard a thousand times.

She said hat making homosexual sex legal will lead to making paedophile sex legal. This style of argument is known as the slippery slope fallacy--it does not follow that legalising one will inevitably lead to the other.

And there is a good reason why one will not lead to the other. Like all interpersonal sex, homosexual sex is legal only between freely consenting adults. Paedophile sex can never be between freely consenting adults because one party, by definition, is never an adult.

There is also an evidential reason to dismiss this argument. There are 117 countries in which homosexuality is legal. It has been legal in Martinique since 1791, in Brazil since 1831, Mexico since 1871 and in Argentina since 1887. So, there's been plenty of time for the slippery slope to operate.

Now, how many countries have legalised paedophile sex? Precisely none.

AMERICA'S HOMOSEXUAL LAW AND NIGERIA

A friend put this on facebook and while I re-edited it for my use, I would say it is succint:

You know I just can't help but love my Nigerian people.

Electricity, we don't have. Security of human lives is almost non-existent. You have to hire your own security. Good roads are far in between. Malaria is still killing our children.

Governance is a big comedy show as lawmakers are bent on making the present government inefficient due to internal party politics. Because we don't understand democracy just yet. Civil servants are not paid salaries and elected
officials continue to loot the treasury dry.

Yet, Nigerians on the internet are reeking of 'how God will judge America for legalizing Sodom and Gomorrah.'

Don't you ever get tired, you bunch of hypocrites who cannot call on God to take our nation out of pitch darkness since 1960?

A nation of imported religionists who believe in the choice of a God they have never seen but cannot respect the choice of fellow human beings who do them no harm. May the god of iron, ogunlakaaye, the god of chickenpox, sonponna , and the god of thunder, sango, open your eyes to know that marriage as defined by an average Nigerian today is a foreign idea.

Our fathers married/marry tens of wives in the West. Our underage girls - as young as 12yrs- were/are given away in marriage in the North. Our women married other women in the East so they can procreate.

And what Gomorrah are y'all talking about? Is it the one where Lots' daughters rape their fathers in turns so they can have children. Or is it the one Lot prefer his wicked neighbors to Bleep his daughters in lieu of men - because girls lives don't matter? What Sodom are y'all talking about, Naija of God?

A friend of mine yesterday told me: 'I feel sad for America for this decision.'

And I replied: 'Right. And Nigeria is such a great country filled as it is with people feeling sad for America.'

They will be applying for visa to go to "Sodom and Gomorrah" and keep giving testimonies for visas to "Sodom and Gomorrah".

This country is filled with clueless hypocrites.

Lagos — In a bid to select the best players that will represent Nigeria at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile later in the year, Golden Eaglets coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, has thrown the team's camp open for players that can fit into his plan.

The reigning world champions which is hoping to retain the trophy won in UAE two years ago under Manu Garba, qualified for the tournament as one of Africa's four representatives after finishing third at the CAF U-17 Championship in Niger early this year.

Amuneke, who revealed that he has invited some players that started with the team, also said that other uninvited players would be giving a look for as long as they meet his demand.

"It's really not a question of how many more players to invite, we are making it possible for every player who falls within the category to come down and prove themselves. We have invited some and also available all others to come around."

https://www.kickoff.com/chops/images/resized/main/83bd4bea9b83777f97fa08ff03858511.jpg

Head Coach of the U-23 national team, Dream Team VI, Samson Siasia, has read the riot act by giving all invited home-based members of the Flying Eagles team that went to New Zealand, Friday June 26 as deadline to report to the team's camp or forget about the invitation.

Expressing anger at the attitude of the players to the invitation, Siasia said he cannot understand why players who called to beg for permission to see their families and rest a little would fail to report to camp after the one -week grace he granted.

"No player can hold the nation to ransom. This attitude of theirs is unprofessional. When the players arrived from the U-20 World Cup, they called me to beg for a grace period to rest a little, which I did, and they promised to report after one week. It is now more than one week and none of them is around." Siasia disclosed that the Friday deadline is to give the players the benefit of doubt.

Siasia had invited Captain Musa Mohammed, strikers Godwin Saviour, Taiwo Awoniyi and goalkeeper Dele Alampasu, who are based at home to report to camp on Monday, June 22, while the overseas-based players Kingsley Sokari, Musa Yahaya, Kelechi Iheanacho and Moses Simon have been given until two weeks to the African U-23 Championship qualifier against Congo billed for Port Harcourt on July 19. Already, Sharks FC defender Chima Akas and his Warri Wolves counterpart, Semiu Liadi alongside the overseas-based Umar Aminu, Shehu Abdullahi and Ikechukwu Okorie have all reported to camp, cutting short their break.

Meanwhile, Siasia has denied reports making the rounds in the media that he has invited a Norway-based defender, Sola Akinyemi to the Dream Team, saying that before any player is invited from abroad to any of the National Teams, there is a process to be followed with the NFF giving the nod for such invitation.

While thanking the media for all the support since he took over the U-23 team, Coach Siasia appealed for thorough verification of any information before publication.

HOW EFFECTIVE HAS PRAYERS BEING?

Here are some of the pointless verses that Christians like to quote for protection.

1). A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you. - Psalm 91:7

2). The LORD will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. - Psalm 121:7

3). The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. - 2 Timothy 4:18

So where were Jesus and his father when nine of their worshippers were shot dead in Charleston? They ask for worship in exchange for protection but they never fulfil their own end of the bargain. Probably because they don't exist.

I've said it before, prayers are a waste of time. They never grow the limbs of amputees. They don't stop Christians from getting shot even within church premises or getting killed in plane crashes. Whoever thinks they can alter the outcome of anything in life by soliloquy!

I am always confused when people say they are praying for the families of dead people like those from Charleston - what exactly is the point of such prayers? Were these people not praying when they got shot? Will the prayers resurrect them? Will they retroactively prevent the crime that resulted in death? Will they stop future crimes? Will they stop the families from hurting? If the prayers couldn't stop the crime, of what use are they now?

Here is another thing I can never get my head around - if heaven is such a fantastic place as Christians tell us, then why do they mourn death and are scared to die? Why do they buy life insurance? Why would any christian wish to spend another day in this sinful world when they could be with Jesus? If they truly believe the stories about heaven, shouldn't Christians be eager to die so they can get there swiftly and be united with Jesus?

I know that this post might sound insensitive but I believe that every situation presents us with learning opportunities. The event at Charleston presents an opportunity to reflect on some of these pointless practices and traditions which do not advance our people. Black people are enslaved by religion, which impacts on their productivity and progress. In Nigeria, for instance, Christians regularly pray all night and even attend morning prayer sessions during work hours.

Awoniyi, Mohammed, three others to join U23 team next week

https://newngrguardiannewscom.c.presscdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/MUSA.jpg

NATIONAL U-20 team captain, Musa Mohammed and prolific striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, are expected to lead five players expected to join the Olympic team’s camp next week in Abuja as part of Coach Samson Siasia’s bid to fortify his team ahead of the 2015 All African Games qualifying match against Congo in July.

Siasia, who disclosed this yesterday after his team’s training session in Abuja, said there was the need for him to call up some of the boys from the Flying Eagles, especially those who were with the team when they defeated Zambia 2-1 in Lusaka last April in the 2015 All Africa Games qualifier.

Top on the list is talented goal scorer, Taiwo Awniyi who scored the two goals that gave Nigeria the 2-1 win over Zamia in Lusaka, captain of the Flying Eagles, Musa Mohammed, Saviour Godwin, defender Onyinye Ndidi who plays professional football in Belgium as well as midfielder, Musa Yahaya who just joined English side, Tottenham Hotspur.

The coach is worried by the lack of potent strikers in his team, stressing that the players’ inability to convert begging chances has been the major problem facing the team’s technical crew.

The former Super Eagles’ chief coach confirmed that he has already reached out to the players, adding that he only gave them one week to rest after their return from New Zealand where they crashed out of the ongoing FIFA World Youth Championship.

He noted that having observed the poor attacking form of his strikers, the focus of his team is to do well to win the support of Nigerian fans, adding that to achieve that means that the team must begin to score goals.

“I have spoken with a couple of the U20 players. I think by tomorrow we should be able to release their names officially so that they can start training with us ahead of the Congo match. We have chosen five of them and as soon as they come back, we will start proper preparations for the match,” Siasia said.

I am not a superstitious person.

As a matter of fact, I think religion is by nature, a form of insanity.

When folks talk about spiritual things and mystic stuff and voodoo and black magic and jazz and and satan and devil and stuff, I get really bored and this stupid look creeps into my disbelieving face, like, what da ...?

Is there a higher force? I'm not sure.

I'm open to extraordinary proof, however.

When folks say I must be an atheist because I don't share their insanity, I'm like, hey, come on, what are you on about? I cannot describe myself using your insanity as a yardstick.

I don't pretend not to be fool.

I know too little about the physical universe.

The gods in my locality are more culture than religion, and I'm sure no Igbo farmer cultivated yams and believed Amadioha would personally ensure a rich harvest.

Folks become so involved in their adopted middle eastern religions that they speak of their "personal relationship" with a being they cannot see, like seriously?!

Even the priests who served the gods of old in West Africa could never claim to know those deities personally.

Yet the colonialists thought our ancestors were quite crazy.

In the final analysis, there are many ills of religion, and I have seen the lot.

Call me anything you will, one thing is sure: I would not stop campaigning against "more religion".

Believe anything you like, but don't tell us to make it our own way of life.

MY FEAR OF HELL

Almost every day a Christian will warn me that I will burn in hell if I do not repent and accept Jesus... well you know the rest.
I feel like telling these sad people that I fear Christian hell as much as they fear Jahannam (Islamic hell), Hifhel (Norse hell) or as much as they fear being reincarnated as a slug.

Why don't my Christian friends fear these horrible afterlives? Because they are ridiculous, that's why...

MAN CITY SHOCKED BY IHEANACHO WORLD CUP SNUB

https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2015/06/Samm_27_May_1.jpg

EPL side Manchester City are so shocked about the limited playing appearances of both Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidiebere Nwakali at the FIFA U20 World Cup that they have demanded a technical appraisal of the players from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

AfricanFootball.com can exclusively reveal City scouting and recruitment operations manager Fergal Harkin has demanded a technical report from the NFF after Iheanacho saw only a total of 83 minutes of action and Nwakali was played for 10 minutes against Germany as the Flying Eagles crashed out of the World Cup in New Zealand.

“City have requested for a technical report of both Iheanacho and Nwakali at the U20 World Cup,” a source informed AfricanFootball.com

“It is now left to be seen if NFF will grant this request.”

This latest move by City could well snowball into a frosty relationship between the EPL side and the NFF.

Earlier this year, City stopped Iheanacho and Nwakali from the African Youth Championship in Senegal.

Iheanacho, who was the MVP of the 2013 U17 World Cup, is expected to join the Manchester City first-team squad come next season and he will be on the team’s pre-season tour of Australia and Singapore, while Nwakali has been sent on loan to Spanish La Liga side Malaga.

Golden Eaglets Korea invitational tournament postponed
04/06/2015

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria will not be participating at the Four-Nation Invitational Tournament due to start in the Korea Republic next week, until further notice, as the tournament has been postponed, organizers have announced.

Organizers of the invitational tourney, which Nigeria’s U-17 boys were to participate in, say they have been forced to postpone the event as a result of the death of two Koreans within the past three days due to the outbreak of the ‘MERS’ (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) epidemic.

It is believed that as many as 700 people have been isolated as health officials seek to contain the epidemic.

Nigeria Football Federation’s FIFA Match Agent, Jairo Pachon of Eurodata Sport said on Wednesday that organizers are pained but feel it is the correct decision in the circumstances, in order to protect the participating players and officials of all four countries – Korea Republic, Nigeria, USA and Brazil.

“It is an unfortunate situation for the Korean people and we feel their discomfort at this period. We hope that they will be able to solve the issue quickly,” Jairo Pachon was quoted on the NFF website.

A new date will be chosen for the invitational tournament in the month of August 2015.

EXCLUSIVE: MONACO TO OUTBID PORTO FOR AWONIYI

https://africanfootball.com//bp_images/2015/06/Samm_27_May_3.jpg

Nigeria U20 striker Taiwo Awoniyi has moved closer to joining top French club AS Monaco after they tabled “a far better deal” than what Portuguese club FC Porto are willing to splash on the striker.

AfricanFootball.com has exclusively gathered from one of the agents working on Awoniyi’s transfer that Monaco are now in pole position to sign the highly-rated striker, who scored twice and provided two assists at the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Awoniyi was favourably disposed with starting his pro career in Europe with Porto alongside Chidera Ezeh, who he has played together with since their days at the Nigeria U15 side.

He could well have signed for Porto before the start of the U20 World Cup in May, but his representative and former international Seyi Olofinjana hedged on the deal.

That was enough time for Monaco to put through a better deal financially for the player as well as favourable to his career as he has been promised a place at least in the first-team squad as against starting out with the U19s at Porto.

“Monaco have a far better deal than Porto proposed to Awoniyi and he is now most likely to take up this offer,” a source informed only AfricanFootball.com

“Besides the fact that they have offered far more money than Porto, they have also assured that as soon as the player turns 18 in August, he will be on the first-team squad at Monaco.”

The source further reported: “We are now very close to rapping up the deal for Awoniyi, just a few details and we will be through.”

The 17-year-old Awoniyi has been courted by several top European clubs including Real Bull Salzburg of Austria, Heerenveen in Holland and newly-promoted Kayserispor from Turkey.

Tunisia’s Esperance also want to break the bank for Awoniyi.

ESPERANCE SET TO BEAT AHLY TO SOKARI

https://africanfootball.com//bp_images/2015/06/Samm_19_November_580x473.jpg

Tunisia’s Esperance are set to beat Al Ahly of Egypt to Nigeria midfielder Kingsley Sokari, AfricanFootball.com can specially reveal.

Esperance have already agreed fees with Enyimba and have even ordered the player to head to Tunis on his return from the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

“Sokari will join Esperance,” a top source informed AfricanFootball.com

“Enyimba chairman Felix Anyansi-Agwu has negotiated a transfer fee with Esperance for the player and the Aba club have already asked that Sokari moves immediately to Tunisia.

“Yes, there was a late bid by Ahly but Esperance had moved ahead when they negotiated a deal for the player while the Flying Eagles were still in Germany on a training tour ahead of the World Cup.”

Sokari is highly rated having been capped at U20, Olympic and full international levels. He scored a thunderbolt of a goal against North Korea at the U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Esperance have already signed Nigeria’s Emem Eduok and Christian Pyagbara and have not hidden their interest in Nigeria U20 and U23 striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
