My advise is that you change to Mechatronics if the opportunity avail itself. From your writeup I can deduce that mind is not with industrial Chemistry.

Mechatronics is a very great course. Combination if mechanical systems with electronics. More like robotics. You have chance in telecoms, control systems, Electronics Engineering, Medical engineering, power industry.

A lot of research activities in this area.
