Politics › APGA Deputy Governorship Candidate Admits Corruption In Obi’s Government by joshbam(op): 8:27am On Oct 30, 2013 |
https://www.osundefender.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Victor-Ume-l-and-Peter-Obi.jpgThe deputy governorship candidate for All progressive Grand Alliance, Dr Nkem Okeke yesterday admitted that the reason Anambra State has not exceeded its current levels in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) is because people are printing receipts and sabotaging the revenue generation.
Okeke spoke in a forum where his All Progressive Congress (APC) counterpart promised to take the revenue base of the state generated revenue to a minimum of N1bn per month working with his governorship candidate when elected on November 16, 2013.
The two were responding to a question on how each of the candidates of the candidate will raise the revenue base of the state for development purposes, outside the funds allocated from the federation account.
Said Okeke ‘In a situation where people are printing receipts and there are leakages at the expense of the state, such funds are bound to disappear, but the government of Willie Obiano will improve upon what is on ground.
Dr. Nkem who claimed that more money could be made by automating the market system however stopped short of answering the question from the panelist which specifically requested him to state the current revenue profile of the state from IGR and go ahead to say where his government will take the revenue base to.
Ralph Okeke of the APC however said that when his governorship candidate came in 2003 in his first coming as governor, he raised the profile from N50 M TO n400m and that in the next coming after November 16, 2013, ‘we shall drive the revenue up by covering more markets in Onitsha and elsewhere in the state and blocking all leakages’
Said he: ‘Nothing short of N1billion will be acceptable as a revenue profile’.
On infrastructure and road profile, Dr Okeke’s claim to fine network of 800km in roads was debunked by one of the panelists who stated asked the deputy governorship candidate to explain if the bad roads encountered by herself and her colleagues since arriving Anambra State form part of the good roads.
On Job creation, APC candidate Hon Ralph Okeke promised that an APC government will alter the curriculum of schools to incline towards technical education, so that many young school leavers can employ themselves in craft and technical work rather than queing up for white collar jobs.’
He also said that with security topmost on the agenda of the APC platform, lives and properties will be secured in the state as Ngige did in his first coming to enable investors have a stake in the economic profile of the state and enhance job creation.
He also promise that his administration will focus on the establishment of an independent Power Project to enable the development of rural areas and the powering of small scale industries.
APGA deputy candidate agreed on industrialization, stating however, that his government will establish what he called ‘industrial parks’ to enhance job creation. He however disagreed on the need to prioritize Independent Power Project base on cost as according to him’ it is not something that a state government can fund’. Rather, he proposed to bring in more transformers.
Addressing the 70 percent capacity hall of audience, APC candidate promised to set up a monorail connecting the major towns in Anambra State with stations in the rural areas to promote transportation of goods and services across the state.
In the APGA candidate surprisingly delved to free education which does not form part of its published manifesto, drawing instant crowd reaction despite the strict debate rules forbidding audience reaction f, but APC deputy governorship candidate explained that an APC government will emplace, free, qualitative and compulsory education at the primary and secondary school level and enforce a 50 percent reduction in school fees at tertiary level’.
Apart from APC and APGA, two other parties, action Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) Alliance for Democracy participated in the first session of debate for the day. ACPN surprisingly spent a large chunk of their time endorsing the incumbent APGA programs, while AD promised to use waste recycling for both job creation and energy supply. SOURCE |

Politics › APC Begins Membership Registration In November by joshbam(op): 6:05am On Oct 17, 2013 |
https://www.ngrguardiannews.com/images/resized/images/stories/2013/july2013/apc-logo1_200_160.jpg THE All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that it would begin the registration of its members nationwide ``tentatively'' in November.
The Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, made this known during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
“We have to plan the logistics, if you do not plan well you are not going to achieve anything.
“So what we are doing now, we are at the level of planning because the exercise will take place all over Nigeria,” he said.
According to him, the nationwide membership registration will strengthen the party and enable it to contest all future elections in the country.
Mohammed said that the party had harmonised and finalised the process as well as create a format of its activities that would enable it to participate in future elections.
He told NAN that harmonisation of membership registration into the party would also be carried out from ward level to ensure that all its members are registered.
He said APC had successfully conducted its primaries in Anambra, noting that, ``it is on record that we are the only political party that has a transparent and direct primary.
``This simply means that our party loyalists voted from the ward to the state levels,” he said.
Muhammed expressed optimism that the party would excel in the forthcoming Nov. 16, governorship election in Anambra.
He urged Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies to discharge their responsibility credibly.
“We just hope that INEC would create a level playing ground, the security agencies will do the same, and violence to be curbed,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sen. Chris Ngige said in Awka on Tuesday that the All Progressive Congress (APC) was in the state on a rescue mission.
Ngige, who is the party’s flag bearer in the Nov. 16 governorship election, made the declaration while inaugurating 16 sub-committees for his campaign.
The sub-committees are expected to work in collaboration with the national and state campaign committees which were earlier inaugurated to actualise the governorship ambition.
He named Chief George Muoghalu as the Director-General of the Ngige Campaign Organisation and charged him to ensure his victory.
Ngige said that if elected as governor, his administration would ensure the security of lives and property in the state.
``Victory for APC on Nov. 16 will bring a lot for the state. It will give Anambra people the security of their lives and property.
``We want to release our people from economic and political bondage, security, unemployment, high school fees and god-fatherism.
``The party will build the Onitsha to Enugu expressway and conduct local government elections within six months.
``Other parties are playing politics of religion and tribe because they have nothing to offer the people of the state,’’ he said.
Ngige urged members of the sub-committees to consider themselves as soldiers for the people of Anambra, saying that their assignment was to liberate the state by ensuring victory for the party. SOURCE: www.ngrguardiannews.com/national-news/135766-apc-begins-membership-registration-in-november |

https://www.osundefender.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/ASUU-strike-2.jpgSeven weeks after the Federal Government announced that it has commenced implementation of the agreement signed with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, by disbursing N100 billion to each of the 59 public universities, the affected tertiary institutions have raised alarm that they are yet to receive the fund.
The Governor Gabriel Suswan-led Presidential Implementation Committee on Needs of Nigerian Universities was said to have sourced the fund within 16 days of its inauguration from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, and other government agencies.
The committee thereafter adopted a sharing formula for each of the university based on student population and the depth of infrastructural decay.
The money was meant for the refurbishment/renovation and provision of new facilities such as hostels, lecture theatres and lecture rooms, laboratories and libraries in the universities.
Reacting to report that the money has been released to the universities, Vice Chancellor of one of the universities in the South East said “the Federal Government has only sent us a memo through the Ministry of Education that we are getting N650 million from the funds. Until we get alert into the university’s account, we will know how sincere the government is but presently we are yet to receive the money.”
Similarly, the Vice Chancellor of another university in the South West disclosed that the N1.2 billion earmarked for his university has not been paid either as cheque or cash into the university’s account.
It was gathered from the committee that 13 Federal universities have been left out of the initial disbursement. They are Federal University, Gashua; Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State; Federal University, Dutsin-ma, Katsina; Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State; Federal University, Lafia, Nasarawa State; Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State; Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State; and Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State. Others are FederalUniversity, Wukari, Taraba State; Federal University, Birnin-Kebbi, Kebbi State; Federal University, Gusau, Zamfara State; Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, EkitiState; and Police Academy, Wudil.
Vanguard learnt that these universities were left out because they have just been established by the present administration between 2011 and 2013 which committed trillions of naira in their establishment and that there was no need for additional funding.
Five state universities that were also unlucky are: Bukar Abba Ibrahim University, Damaturu, Yobe State; North-West University, KanoState; Sokoto State University; Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-Ode; Ogun State; Technical University, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Top five Federal universities that got the lion’s share of the money were: University of Ibadan, UI, with students population of 33,481 which got N3.250 billion; University of Benin, UNIBEN, with students population of 56,501 got N3.200 billion; Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, with students population of 49,436 got N3.200 billion; University of Port-Harcourt, UNIPORT, with students population of 53,288 got N3.050 billion; while University of Lagos, UNILAG, with students population of 49,179 also got N3.050 billion.
Also, the state universities that benefitted are: Ebonyi State University, EBSU, with students population of 23,437 got N3.050 billion; Niger Delta University, NDU, Wilberforce Island with 12,793 students population received N2.800 billion; Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University, Katsina with students population of 4,753 received N2.450 billion; Gombe State University, GSU, with students population of 4,383 got N2.450 billion, whereas the Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo with the highest students population of 90,885 among all the considered universities got N1.300 billion.
