PoliticsNigeria Getting It Right With Alternative Business Dispute Resolution by Joyce95(op): 2:29pm On Nov 13, 2020
Not many things excites me in Nigeria nowadays especially with the COVID-19 pandemic crumbling my business and that of many others with attendant restrictions and lockdown.

Before COVID, we had been calling for an alternative resolution court for business related disputes. It is simply unhealthy for businesses to be held up by lingering court cases.

I recall a friend once had a court battle with a commercial bank over repayment of loan, this case lasted like forever,
the goods he imported was stuck and depreciating at the port because of court order, biko, what sense does that make? At the end, both parties lost, this is one of many cases I am privy to and I can tell you that none of the cases ended well.

But when I saw that Prof. Osinbajo was setting up the Alternative Dispute Resolution for business, I was delighted ,because this is definitely the beginning of the end of long delayed court hearings, even though I don't know how it will be run, I'm just certain that this will be easier, faster and more like a mobile court, take for example, the case I sighted up there, the court will most likely tell my friend to clear his goods while a refinancing is worked out with the bank.In this case both parties win,as we say in business, it is a win-win situation.

We are truly blessed to have VP Osinbajo, like they it is the "smallest things that matters" and these small stuffs is what he takes note of and tries to fix it as well. When business environment was becoming unbearable he jumped in on it to make it better, now he is here again to give an alternative business dispute resolution all just to make the business environment hitch free.

Alternative dispute resolution is the way forward and we must promote it because it will be time friendly, pocket friendly and easier,i believe nobody has the energy to go through long court processes and again we don't want people who will be taking bribe to give judgement in favour of one person because this will kill this beautiful initiative.

We just need honest people with integrity to oversee these disputes.
