I have been hearing about this Instagram job of a thing but I never see. A product designer recently got a 700k remote gig on there. I asked him how come but in the usual naija gatekeeping culture, he just avoided giving a direct answer

How exactly do you guys do it

You need to be very strategic in regards how you apply for jobs and also having a good online portfolio and presence for those jobs.

There is a lot of work that goes into it, have to be very dedicated and push through. For that guy he would have done so many applications before getting that one that worked.

Some of us don't apply properly, send shabbily CVS, no social media presence(Linkedin), using the same CV to apply for all job applications you see, etc. Then you expect miracles to happen...nah

There is no fast rule really. Know your onions, have a strong online presence , Tailor your CV properly and applications to the job, do as many applications as possible.

You will get there. It will take time but you will get there. That's the advise I can give you.

It depends on what you are seeing. There are different job platforms that have more than this like linkedin tailor you job search. There are platforms on Instagram that post other jobs outside the ones you mentioned in Abuja.

It's not always about connection.

Do u know how best i can get employed in a radio station?

1.
Before you say you want to work somewhere, what particular skillets do you have to bring in?

Do your research on the radio stations, see what it is you can bring onboard to them that will want them to select you.

It's one thing to want to work, it's another thing to have the required skill to work.

Explain why you would want to work there with them unpaid with a specific time frame and goal in mind.

Keep in mind that this might be extremely tasking; the search for radio houses and also the work that comes after once you arre approved. Be ready for hard work. There are days that you may question your life choices doing this but have your goal in place...it would motivate you to keep pushing

Please don't just submit CV anyhow be strategic with how you would submit your CV and write your opening message ( Cover Letter)

I see a lot of people these days submit CVs without care, terrible subject, no body and terrible CV formats. Please do the needful.

Also understanding the needs of the organisation, you can tailor your CV and opening messages to that. Don't just copy and paste for all the organizations

Understand your time and financial commitments that this might cause, like I explained in the second point. Time would be a big factor, cost of movements and more.

1. Any of the options can be applied depending on the Radio stations.

2. An internship is essentially a work experience you choose to do that will help develop your skills in a profession. Its main goal is to help you gain valuable work experience and help polish your CV better for future opportunities.

Volunteering on the other hand is somewhat similar but what differs the two is the motive behind it. The driving force behind volunteering is that you purely want to help out whereas for an internship you feel like it is a necessity to have on the CV. With volunteering you “voluntarily” give your time and energy to help a cause.

a. Sometimes, some organization's might not have slots for intern's but might be willing to accept volunteers, such that if their is any openings in the organization they could be on the priority list.

b. Internships are usually paid whereas volunteering opportunities(sometimes) are not.

c. Both are great additions to have on your CV’s. Recruiters always appreciate those who have valuable experience (done through internships or volunteering)

To clarify internships are most times paid for. Volunteering isn't.

The payment that people consider in volunteering can be classified into benefits and the likes. These do not in anyway translate into salaries that can provide your necessary needs.
