Government 'must meet water need'

some persons feel private companies come highly recomended to make adequate and clean water supply a reality. look at PHCN what improvement so far?
Governments, not private firms, must take responsibility for getting water to their people,
"Private companies only invest where they can make a profit, not where there is the greatest need," Peter Hardstaff of the World Development Movement says.
"Time and again the private sector has failed to deliver the promised investment,"
A look at investment around the world shows that private companies do not focus on areas of greatest need .

Health / Herbal Cure? by juahjuah(f): 7:12am On Mar 15, 2006
Can herbal medicine combat Aids?
As a conference in Ghana asks whether traditional medicines could be used in fighting HIV/Aids, would you trust alternative remedies to combat a disease for which no cure has been found?
Africa relies on herbalists and traditional healers for much of its primary health care.

A recent World Health Organization (WHO) research revealed that the vast majority of medicines taken in developing countries are traditional medicines. In Ethiopia the figure is 90%. However the biggest problem is a lack of quality-control.

The World Bank estimates that there are 25m Africans who have HIV and with rising cost of drugs and disputes between government and pharmaceutical companies, many are now seriously considering using traditional medicines.

Could traditional medicine have a role to play in combating HIV/Aids in Africa? How can you tell if someone is a genuine expert in herbal medicine? Have you been to a traditional healer? SOURCE: BBC

Health / Drug Problems In Nigeria by juahjuah(f): 6:49am On Mar 01, 2006
Does Africa (Nigeria) have a drug problem? Illegal drug cultivation, trafficking and abuse are on the rise in Africa, says the United Nations. How seriously should we be taking this problem?
Worldwide, it seems that Nigerian gangs are taking over heroin smuggling. Ghanaian MP Eric Amoateng is awaiting trial in New York for allegedly smuggling over $6m worth of heroin into the United States.

In Zanzibar 8% of young people are heroin addicts, and in South Africa one-third of teenagers experiment with drugs.

How serious a problem are drugs in your community? Do you or anyone you know use drugs? How do you feel about drug use, does it have any place in African society?

Slaves

Children across africa are working in peoples houses; where should we draw the line as to whats acceptable treament to minors?

What do you feel? Do children, who work as domestic servants, benefit or lose out? Were you once a child who worked in someone else's house or do you have a child working in your own home? What do you feel about sending your own son or daughter away to a friend or relative?
