Please don’t forget good seed and your management will determine your optimum yield. Don’t joke with your investment by getting anyhow seed o I pray we don’t waste our money and effort on a fruitless project. Gracias 🙏 |
I am so happy the planting phase is done with. Total expanse of land is close to 5acres. More pictures loading when next I visit the farm. |
With the use of good seed I was able to attain 95% germination rate . The seeds were planted in double row on each bed and 4-5 seed placed in each hole. |
Herbicide used after planting was 2-4Dimethyl amine and glyphosate. First application of insecticide will be 5 days after germination but wait till insect attack before you start spraying your insecticide. |
I must say this project has been started since the beginning of the year due to the fact that the chemicals both herbicide and pesticide to be used were already ready even before we embarked on it. We all need to prepare ahead and seek guidance |
Sprouting of seed began as of 15th. The secret of the rapid sprouting of seed is pre germination which is soaking the seed for 5hrs before planting.
|
Due to the fact that we have a running stream that cut across the land we were able to irrigate with the help of gravity and technical know-how . Zero fuel used |
The ridges were only renewed where flooding occur during the last time we planted rice on the land. The rest of the Okro was planted on ridges made last year. |
Ridging and planting commenced on the 11th of this month.
|
Good morning folks. It’s been a while on this platform has I have been on the farm doing what needs to be done. |
I have been working on my next project to be started on the 10th of this month. This naira change is something else even a basket of Okro price has been slashed to 2500. But we move since we don’t harvest once like maize farmers. Hope you’re all getting set? The rain is fast approaching
|
Also consistently planting the same crop for a number of years makes you filter through the bad eggs out of the buyers and middlemen. So my little advice is be in the game for a long time that is when you will actually make good profit and also more knowledge below your belt. |
Try to find market for your products when they are not yet due for harvesting. Those market women are heartless when they know you’re a newbie. Another way is to associate with fellow farmers who have been planting that crop they will have had already established buyers. |
ublight:What I mean is that you should wait till weed germinate before you spray herbicide otherwise the application of herbicide is useless since the herbicides are post emergence |
Spraying of the seed with insecticide before packing into store for thrashing is what we were doing on the second pic |
The first pic is where I use to cultivate rice during raining season August precisely and I use it for Okro in February because it is water logged. |
Been a while here because network is bad on the farm don’t know what came over MTN. Collection of Okro pod and clearing of land for our proposed February Okro project is on going. Will keep you updated as time goes on and not to forget we are still harvesting the dry season Okro. On 5th harvest now ,another coming up tomorrow.
|
My experience with dry season Okro The first thing I have noticed is the high level of whiteflies infestation caused by the absence of other host for the flies.(2) The growth of the plant is highly retarded because of the inability to take nutrients up from the soil due to lack of water, this can be solved by using irrigation.(3) Okro is very easy to manage as it requires very little attention and very hardy crop I did not have the time and only irrigated thrice before harvesting commenced. (4)The price of a basket is at the highest ever since I started farming .If you have drip irrigation or any way to irrigate regularly your investment return can be up to 500% under proper management |
Notice the height of the Okro. I will talk more on my experience with this 2022 dry season project. We are on our third harvest now
|
Redomi:please always use the designated insecticide on your farm. You shouldn’t gamble bro |
Check my IG page (jot.farms ) for more insight into harvesting |
Harvesting of Okro will commence tomorrow. New year more money ![]() |
freshrose:Happy new year sir . I have a thread on Okro farming you’re welcome to share your knowledge and educate us on what you know. Diary of an Okro farmer is the topic |
Thank you very much. May God make this year’s harvest bountiful |
Sorry I thought I already mentioned it. Thanks for noticing. The quantity of vanguish ashpanez:in 20L knapsack sprayer should be 30ml |
ashpanez:pls go through the thread first page it is already mentioned there |
ashpanez:No it’s an opv that is superior to others of its kind and also they seed can be kept for other planting season. |
If I see any I will get In touch |
I am located in iwo so I don’t know how feasible it will be for you. Secondly what type of crop do you want to plant |
Lady finger Okro seeds will be available by next week, so those who are asking for it on my WhatsApp pls notify me as I have limited quantity to sell out. |
The reason is that if you properly maintain and apply everything necessary at the right time you are sure of a good return. Even if you encounter glut let say 3 or 4 markets max and you’re going to be harvesting like 20 times. Hope you get my point |
justlovesfarmin:Honestly I don’t calculate that much because it’s always profitable. I can tell you that it is always profitable . |
