Herbicide containing glyphosate should be used with dimethyl amine (popularly know as 2-4D) in the ratio 200ml to 50ml respectively in a 20L knapsack sprayer.

After the land has been ploughed or if ridges were made, it should be left still emergence of weed (approx a week after rain fall )before planting of Okro seed so as to make herbicide spraying effective.

SOIL
The best type of soil for Okro is loamy soil which is not too water logged. Okro can actually survive on all type of soil but only yield of crop will differ. The best preparation for the land is ploughing so as for the root to penetrate easily for nutrients uptake.

Planting of Okro begins for me immediately after the end of harmattan most likely in the mid of February as I am located in Iwo Osun state south west this February planting is for those who have water logged area or those that can irrigate their farms before the onset of rain.
AgricultureRe: Diary Of An Okro Farmer by Jub101(op): 2:16pm On Dec 10, 2022
Okro is a very drought resistant crop and also flood tolerant crop to a certain extent where other crops e.g maize can’t thrive.
AgricultureRe: Diary Of An Okro Farmer by Jub101(op): 2:13pm On Dec 10, 2022
Okro farming is a very lucrative business if and only if you are in for the long term. I personally plant all year round because I have the capacity to do that. And the price flunctuate as the supply and demand plays out but we always sell even when there is glut.
AgricultureRe: Diary Of An Okro Farmer by Jub101(op):
Good day everyone. The first thing to consider when setting up for any farming activity be it crop or animal is your market. Please don’t make the mistake of producing because you think it’s an amazing crop and it’s beneficial to the health or well being of the society. The truth is people decide what they want when it’s comes to what they eat most especially. So do your market research before going to the farm to plant
AgricultureRe: Diary Of An Okro Farmer by Jub101(op): 10:47pm On Dec 09, 2022
There are other varieties but the market we sell to determines the one we plant and to add to that the evergreen lady finger is more easy to manage when it comes to spraying pesticide than the other tall varieties and also get the best price in market.

A full Okro season takes about 4 month. Okro starts to produce after 60days of planting and the harvesting goes on for 2 months if well managed. There are different varieties of Okro out there but the best is the short evergreen lady finger. I will post a picture of it when I get to the farm
AgricultureRe: Diary Of An Okro Farmer by Jub101(op): 10:28pm On Dec 09, 2022
To have a successful season of planting requires proper planning on your end and also a favorable weather (na baba God get that one). The success of your crop all starts from the land preparation to planting , management of weeds, management of pest, fertilizer application and proper harvesting.

TEACHER:

JONATHAN:

TEACHER:

(turns to a female pupil) You Patience, solve this problem.

PATIENCE:
Sir no bi me start d problem. Na Jega, dat boy weh de sit by d door. Make you sendam out, d problem go solve be dat.

TEACHER:
If I send him out, what will I do to dull pupils like Jonathan and you?

PATIENCE :
Make you allow us repeat class, Sir.

BUHARI:
(Raises hand and cuts in) Don't agree sir. They'll always fail. Dismiss them. The answer is 10.

TEACHER:
Very good! But give me 10 reasons why Jonathan should be dismissed, first. Remember he's still the class captain.

BUHARI:
1. He never speaks the truth.
2. He is wicked.
3. He never wears shoes to the school.
4. He cheats.
5.He sold all the bulbs in this classroom, that's why we can't read when it is dark.
6. He dances even when the class is in trouble.
7. He over sleeps.
8. He keeps rats in the same box we keep our monthly contributions.
9. He doesn't take correction and
10. Hates to be advised.

TEACHER:
Class, what Buhari listed are bad qualities of a leader. So I will give you the chance to choose another class captain before the end of March. Is that okay?

ALL:
Yes sir!!, it is okay sir.
I hope you are happy with Buhari now
