Head coach of the Nigeria national team, Stephen Keshi is owed seven months salaries by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). In fact the Super Eagles trainer and members of his back room staff have not been paid salaries by the NFF since March 2013. President of the NFF, Alhaji Aminu Maigari who was quizzed about this on Sunday confirmed the situation but also revealed that the “hands of the federation are tied” over the issue. “It is true that Keshi has not been paid for the past seven months but the hands of the federation are tied over this matter. It’s not as if we are hoarding this money and have refused to pay him. The NFF is in dire straits as far as financial resources are concerned. We have even had to slash the winning bonus of players of the Super Eagles from $10,000 USD to $5,000 USD as a result,” Maigari exclusively told supersport.com. The NFF chief then went on to reveal “several steps taken by the NFF to make Keshi’s life easier” following the failure to pay his wages for the past seven months. “There are several steps taken by the NFF taken by the NFF in this regard to make Keshi’s life easier. “The rent of the hotel in Abuja he lives in is paid by the NFF. His feeding is taken care of by the NFF as well. He has an official car provided by the NFF and we ensure that any expense he needs to meet as he carries out his official duties are met by the NFF. “Let me also use this medium to inform Nigerians that other staff of the NFF have also not been paid for over a year but they have continued working without complaints because they know the constraints we are facing. “General Secretary (Barrister Musa Ahmadu) and Director of competitions (Mohammed Sanusi), Director technical (Emmanuel Ikpeme) and Director of finance (NFF) are just two of the staff affected. There are many others too. “I am sure a lot of Nigerians do not know that even as the leader of the NFF, I have not received salaries for a single day so people should understand that we are selflessly serving the nation,” Maigari said. The NFF president however insisted that the coaches would be paid their salaries as soon as “things improve.” Keshi, who took the reins from Samson Siasia in November 2011, has lost just four official games in the 33 games he has overseen as Nigeria coach. Nice idea, buh that's a man's opinion, Anyone who doesn't believe in their existence would say that's a fallacy of begging the question. You need to give grounds and a conclusion beyond all doubts before we move on to their secrets. IMO |

Yinka Kolawole A traditional ruler in Osun State, Alowa of Ilowa-Ijesa, Oba Adebukola Alli, was Tuesday discharged and acquitted by an Ikirun High Court for allegedly raping a former member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Miss Helen Okpara, in 2011. Justice Oyejide Falola in his judgment in the case, which was instituted by Okpara, 23, with encouragement from some non-governmental organisations, ruled that she failed to prove her case beyond reasonable doubt that the encounter between the duo was not that of mutual consent. The former corps member, who served in the monarch’s domain, had accused him of forcibly having carnal knowledge of her after luring her to his private residence in Osogbo. In his judgment yesterday, Justice Falola said Okpara failed to tender enough exhibits to convince the court beyond reasonable doubt that Oba Alli raped her. He ruled that a case of rape could only be established with exhibits, which include the used bed sheet, the victim’s pant and a medical doctor’s report showing forcible penetration, adding that the prosecutor failed to tender all these. Citing the case of Corporal Nicholas versus the Nigerian Army, Justice Falola, in his over one-hour judgment, contended that there was no proof that the former corps member was attacked by the monarch during the encounter as she had claimed. Justice Falola, who said Okpara failed to show to the court the bruises on her private part as evidence that she was raped, noted that the prosecutor also failed to show to the court her torn clothes as she had claimed in her submissions before the court. He said the court was able to establish that both the monarch and Oba Alli had been having intimate relationship before a misunderstanding ensued between them, adding that from the evidence before the court, Okpara was well known to everybody at both the palace and the private residence of the monarch. He blamed the police for poor investigation of the matter, stressing that they failed to conduct proper and objective investigations into the matter. Justice Falola however expressed displeasure with the attitude of the traditional ruler, saying he had denigrated royalty by sleeping with a corps member serving in his domain. According to him, the monarch through his action has not only denigrated royalty, he brought disgrace to both his family and his community. However, he said since social and moral behaviours were not punishable under the law, the monarch should be discharged and acquitted. Reacting to the court judgment, counsel to the state government who also stood in for Okpara, Mr. Femi Adedokun, said the state government might appeal the judgment. Counsel to the monarch, Mr. Taofeeq Tewogbade, commended the judgment, which he described as "God’s judgment which came at the appointed time."

Pope Francis: "Who am I to judge gay people?" Quote: ROME (Reuters) - Pope Francis, in some of the most compassionate words from any pontiff on gays, said they should not be judged or marginalized and should be integrated into society, but he reaffirmed Church teaching that homosexual acts are a sin. In a broad-ranging 80-minute conversation with journalists on the plane bringing him back from a week-long visit to Brazil, Francis also said the Roman Catholic Church's ban on women priests was definitive, although he would like them to have more leadership roles in administration and pastoral activities. Francis defended gays from discrimination in what was his first news conference since being elected pontiff in March, but also referred to the Catholic Church's universal Catechism, which says that while homosexual orientation is not sinful homosexual acts are. "If a person is gay and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge him?" the pope said. "The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains this very well. Francis was answering a question about reports of a "gay lobby" in the Vatican. "You see a lot written about the gay lobby. I still have not seen anyone in the Vatican with an identity card saying they are gay," he joked.
