📖 Bible reading: Esther 2:1-18

King Xerxes the king of Persia, (which was the most powerful nation at the time) organized a nationwide search for a beautiful virgin to replace Queen Vashti who had defied him openly.

After a random recruitment, many virgin girls were taken into custody by Hegai, who was in charge of them all.

The girls were groomed for twelve months with various beauty cosmetics, perfumes, ointments and put on a diet.

At the end of it all, the girls were paraded before the King for his assessment; yes, king Xerxes was the sole judge in this beauty pageant!

The girl that the king found most attractive would be the next queen and the rest would be relegated to the king's harem of concubines.

Out of all the contestants, the King fell in love with a Jewish girl called Esther.

It wasn't as if Esther was the most beautiful, but she had a certain glow (God's presence) around her that made her uniquely gorgeous 😍.

King Xerxes, smitten with Esther's beauty, placed a crown 👑 on her head cementing her position as his new queen.

God would later use queen Esther to save the Israelites from genocide thus preserving the Abrahamic lineage through which Jesus would come.


Four things we can learn here about beauty and beauty contests:


1. Beauty competitions aren't always a true test of beauty. True beauty isn't just outward but inward, born out of a close relationship with God. Esther was beautiful within and without. (1 Peter 3:3-4, Proverbs 31:30)

2. An attractive woman can win a beauty competition, but if she lacks decisive judgement like Esther who saved her people from extinction, she's a gold ring in a pig's 🐷 snout. (Proverbs 11:22)

3. The intensive use of make-up and creams by beauty contestants cannot replace the presence of God which truly beautifies. (Psalm 50:2) The glory of God overshadowed Esther as everyone who saw her loved her. (Esther 2:15)

4. Many modern beauty contests like that of Esther's era, have had cases of sexual exploitation by its organisers.

Esther was not only beautiful, she was an epitome of beauty.

Esther is known by billions worldwide, not only for her good looks but courage, faith, wisdom and dedication.

How many beauty queens today can stand out like Queen Esther?

Very few, if any indeed.

David(41)is the first son of arguably the richest pastor in the world and the heir apparent to the throne! He is well exposed, handsome and highly sophisticated, same for his wife,Kemi(40)! They would never wear singlets and boxers to a public gym. They use the gym facilities in their home thereby avoiding unnecessary temptations!

I don't mean to be offensive, but i really don't understand your emphasis on what ministers of the gospel wear or don't wear to the gym or stadium like pastor David oyedepo and wife in the post.

I never said God killed Onan simply because he spilled his seed on the floor.

If I did, then I agree I'm a false teacher.

What I said was God killed Onan because he desecrated his seed in willfully disobedience to God by refusal to impregnate Tamar as custom allowed then.

I gave the scriptures on which God set laws for the emission of semen: Leviticus 15: 16-18

God created sex for marriage, so a man should release his semen only in sex with his wife.

Onan was only fulfilling the law of that time of raising children for his late brother.

Tamar wasn't Oman's wife.

This is nothing but heresies, you're preaching another gospel, this will mean a man who constantly have sex with his wife is less powerful than one who stays away from sex from his wife. During fasting and prayers, you can both agree to abstain from sex for a while so the devil doesn't tempt you both, if after breaking the fast, you have the urge to sleep with your wife, fee free to do so as it doesn't affect alignment. Ensure you stay full of God, it's the most important.

God killed him not basically he spilled the semen on the ground but because of the intent of his heart, his wicked heart killed him, he wasn't willing to raise seeds for his late brother, this was why he was killed. He proposed wickedness in his Heart.

When you abstain from sex (masturbation inclusive) fast, pray and read God's WORD, you are generating a lot of spiritual energy that can be converted to success or miracles physically.

Of course, married couples should have a schedule for sex especially when they are given to fasting for spiritual results.

God killed Onan for his intentions, but his actions in pouring out his semen on the floor can't be ignored.

God did not reveal the reason he slew Onan. And we are warned not to add or subtract from his word. You can't just make up a reason for God.
