rvp20182: The third question? Why is Kenya doing debt-refinancing. This one is the easiest. SO WE DO NOT BECOME ANOTHER GHANA - an IMF colony.
We know at our level of (under) development - a low middle class country - our debt to gdp - should be around 50% - with debt repayments not exceed 30% of the revenues/budget. That is what prudent debt management demands.
So when our debt to gdp started to approach 60% - from around 55% - we stop debt leveraging - and started debt refinancing.
Debt refinancing is used by many countries including US, China and even private companies Here is Apple - https://www.cnbc.com/2019/09/08/apple-pockets-cheap-debt-refinancing-heres-the-big-money-lesson.html
What it mean is basically your borrow new loans at better terms - and don't really get the cash - but use the loan to retire the old expensive loans.
One example is our last eurobond..in 2019...we took it and use parts of the proceed to retire the other eurobond.
https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/news/Treasury-gets-Sh125bn-loans-to-refinance-debt/539546-5092412-r8wb35z/index.html
http://www.treasury.go.ke/media-centre/news-updates/608-kenya-successfully-issues-us-dollar-2-1-billion-euro-bond-on-15th-may-2019.html
"We reduced debt by paying off an already existing debt and took a fresh loan; so no change in debt stock to the extent of the maturing loan repaid.
"This is called liability management in international finance circles,” Treasury secretary Henry Rotich told Business Daily.
This what PRUDENT DEBT MANAGEMENT REALLY IS ALL ABOUT.
“There’s no addition in debt stock,” Dr Sirima told Business Daily. “The whole idea is to manage costs and risks. It is purely a debt management operation.”
[b ]We cannot procure new loans like a drunken Ghanian sailor when we are already near the red line (60%) - Ghana plays around 75% (and this year despite rebasing will exceed 60%) [/b] anyway my questions have not been answered Ghana debt stands at 57% |

rvp20182: We don't yet sell our tea to west africa - small volumes - you still call tea - English breakfast - a novelty in West Africa preferring to eat rodents - kenya black tea is popular in countries that consume black tea - pakistan, egypt, sudan, england, afghanistan - the likes of algeria, tunisia, morocco prefer green tea.
Kenya Tea brands - each brand has many varieties. Kericho Gold. Ketepa. Melvins. Equitorial Natural. Baraka. Lipton. Eden.
etc etc.
For example Ketepa tea https://ketepa.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/blog-2.jpg Melvins Tea. when i go to Morrocco and Egypt i will check for your tea and see when did Lipton become a kenyan brand ? |

rvp20182: I am sure I have pasted kenya brands tea for like 3 times. So you're just being dishonest as your run on the empty.
Open this link - and checkout - more than 10 kenya tea brands https://www.jumia.co.ke/tea-6667/
As regard who owns Tea - my own mother, father, etc own tea farms - as smallholders.
Kenya tea is divided into two - large scale (largely unilver, finlays, tata, and many big kenyans own large tea estates) and small scale.
Small scale farmers are organized into companies under Kenya Te Development Holding company - THE LARGEST SUCH FARMING ORGANISATION IN AFRICA.
KTDA (H) Ltd is currently managing 66 tea factories that serve over 560,000 smallholder tea growers cultivating about 130,000 hectares of tea spread in all the 17 counties of Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Meru, Kericho, Bomet, Nakuru, Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Trans-Nzoia and Narok. KTDA also manages two factories in Rwanda namely Shagasha and Mulindi. Is it because your tea is not good enough so it doesn't go anywhere but Kenya? as you claim that you have tea brands all i see are two brands |

rvp20182: Let move to second questions. Kenya Tea and it's brand.
Kenya again is not Ghana - where all cocoa beans & paste are taken to swiss for Nestle to re-brand and make a huge fortune.
First kenya has more than 150 tea factories - that process tea leaves - and we also have Mombasa Tea Auction - where all Africa tea is traded.
I know west africans are not tea people - you hardly can afford milk - so maybe the only tea you ever saw was LIPTON TEA by uniliver.
But there are many kenyan tea brands outside Lipton tea. Google and type ' Kenya Tea brands' - see what you get.
As of 2017 - Kericho Gold had overtaken Unilver
Kericho Gold firm overtakes Unilever to top Africa's tea purchases at Mombasa auction
https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/markets/commodities/Kericho-Gold-Unilever-top-Africa-tea-purchases-Mombasa-auction/3815530-4284208-p5mie/index.html hahahaha you've still not mentioned a single Kenyan tea brand you'll never be Ghana too. whiles in Ghana, ordinary Ghanaians own their cocoa farms ordinary Ghanaians own their cocoa products brands and chocolate brands. rvp20182: Which services sectors? Your hotel sector is nothing to write home about? Your banking and insurance sector the same? Your transport, retail & wholesaling nothing. Your real estate NOTHING.
Just informal sector where a typical Ghanaian in Accra or Kumasi opens a pop & mom shop, trade in banku & rodents, sell fish on the roadside, drives 30yr old taxi, open a roadside eatery. maybe a salon & hair dressing shop.
That is why 15 m urbanization has not produced any tangible economic benefits.
Kenya is still largely rural - and they are engaged in small holder farming - some of the best small holder farming in the world. my real estate sector beat yours that has already been proven my transport sector beat yours as well It is runned by ordinary Ghanaians. those business owners are the reason why the ordinary Ghanaian live a comfortable life Owning a business is a great thing. the 15 million Ghanaians have built an economy that is richer than Kenya. |

Mkenya2019: Why doesn't it reflect in GDP per capita? Your GDP per capita should be twice kenya. You should basically be a middle class country - where likes of Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and South Africa are.
Look at China - they recently got to 50% urbanization.
I see you run into poverty - I wonder what the Nigerian will say .
At 50% urbanization - your poverty should be nearly history. I know when Kenya get to 50% urbanization we would have made poverty history.
When it come to poverty data - I have seen something like Ghana has poverty rate of 24% against kenya 36%(in 2015 - should be around 30%) now. even with the US kind of urbanization there are still 40 million poor americans forget about eliminating poverty its impossible. But like US, you can make your citizens lives better even when they are poor. provide good roads, schools, hospitals, job opportunities a poor person in Ghana can do labour works and put up a three bedroom house for his family. that is the Ghanaian dream. whiles you are dreaming 2019, Ghana poverty figure is 20% which is 6 million people. whiles that of Kenya has increased to 40% |

Accra failed the picture test...actually the COMMON SENSE test....Nigeria once claimed to have 500B dollar economy and we now know without any doubts that it world poverty capital. so economics discussions are now reduced to pictures ? what backwardness Fact still remains that ordinary Ghanaians live in better houses Have better health care attend better schools. have better access to services. when we unload pics and videos you wont survive there is a reason why we consume 12M metric tonnes of cement and you consume 5M this is all that matters |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Just30: 10:47am On Nov 23, 2019 |
the fruit of Ghana urbanization is the fact that we've moved 60% 0f our poor people out of farming to feed themselves into the service sector and farming on a large scale. thereby making them middle class citizens its not bad to dream. By the time you reach 50% urbanization there wont be any poor people in Ghana Mkenya2019: Run away ? Again we are here to have conversation - not for you to bombard me with half-thought half-baked questions - when you have hardly done any research or understood the concepts.
Let me answer you the first one and ask you one question related to it. Then we move to the next one.
Urbanization. Kenya is EXACTLY where it's supposed to be urbanization wise. Urbanization is great - it should lead to greater economic development.Ghana & her big brother Nigeria claims to be 50% urbanized - which is all good except when I google ' GHANA GDP per Capita' and ' Kenya GDP per Capita'.
Ghana - 1,641.49 USD (2017) Kenya - 1,507.81 USD (2017)
I think as of 2019 - Kenya is around 2,000 and Ghana is slightly ahead - maybe 2,200. Even if we look at PPP - not much difference.
Now the question for you. Why is that despite Nigeria & Ghana urbanized is poverty that rampant? Where are the fruits of that urbanization? Why do you urban centers look really BAD?
I can tell you for free - when Kenya reaches 50% urbanization ( we are urbanizing at 4% annually) - somewhere after 2030 - we will look like South Africa or Namibia - proper middle class countries.
You and Sammy the dreamer (for Nigeria curious case) can answer us now...and we can move to the next question. |

why are 70 % of kenyans villagers? why is there no kenyan tea brand? Why is Kenya borrowing to pay debts? why i kenya borrowing to support the kshs? i want to believe you know Zimbabwe ? Why is Kenya such an underdeveloped country? why are roads in Kenya so bad? Kenya has a road network of about 177,800 km out of which only 63,575 km ... why does Kenya have such poor health care facilities |

answer the questions and stop diverting ;Dwhen you learn to paragraph then you can engage me Ghana exports already have it destination We dont want to put ourselves in a situation whereby the tyranny oF USA will have a greater impact on our economy Mkenya2019: One question at a time besides I think we ready covered this in last 5000 pages with Nigeria.I see you're desperately trying to divert attention from Ghana.Remove minerals and oil..what do you export..cocoa beans? You want to compare yourself with Kenya that has solid macro economics, prudent financial management including debt management and is winning the war against poverty when she is 89 % semi arid and has no minerals. That rich coming from aid dependant natural resource IMF colony whose citizens are immigrating enmasse.Kenya tea production has risen to be global leader on the back of small holder farmers with our Kenya Tea Dev Agency paying nearly a billion dollars annually to farmers. Mombasa tea auction is world biggest with tea from all over Africa sold there. The same is replicated in horticulture where Kenya vegetables dominate supermarket shelves of Europe and Middle East.We lead Africa in export of apparels & textiles to the US.We lead Africa in intra-africa trade. We are one of Africa biggest source of foregn investment outside South Africa with our companies spread all over SSA. We have 20k road network in a country where 2/3 of it is hardly populated and existing road network is good enough. In the last 15 yrs our economy has grown from 15b to 100b and nothing suggest that growth rate is about to stop..so another 15yrs our economy will most likely be worth 600B.. certainly in 3-4 yrs we will overtake Morocco to sit just below Algeria. We have one of Africa most educated professional force and MNC are choosing Nairobi over Joburg for that reason as their Africa HQ or entry point. We are nailing demographics..pop growth rate now 2.1% from 2.9% 10yrs ago..and are just about 5yrs from entering a demographic transition of more adults than kids that will further fuel our economic growth. Our cities certainly look way better than any of your shanties including Accra. Surely it is very rich for an IMF colony like Ghana that has tried to rebase itself from one Africa poorest country to where it is now but has not managed to handle hyperinflation and currency deprication..a country that depends on AID and is one year from another economic meltdown.Your best highway is a gift from George bush for being the whims. Our advice..learn from Kenya, diversity your economy, formalize your economy and join the modern world. You live just across the US and you cannot take advantage of AGOA that allow duty free quota free imports of 600 items from Africa? Your big idea is to bring back the messed up African Americans to Ghana? How can they help Ghana when they are the dregs in their countries? The year of return for the scum of earth back to motherland indeed |

How are you going to pay the SGR debt that is drivng investors away from yout non productive economy? Why have you sold all your farmlands to multinationals and Qatar for your people to become slaves on their own lands? Why is Kenya's export just a meagre 5 billion dollars? why are so many kenyan so poor? why are 70 % of kenyans villagers? why is there no kenyan tea brand? Why is Kenya borrowing to pay debts? why i kenya borrowing to support the kshs? i want to believe you know Zimbabwe ? Why is Kenya such an underdeveloped country? why are roads in Kenya so bad? Kenya has a road network of about 177,800 km out of which only 63,575 km ... During the same period, the paved road length grew from 1,811 km to 9,273 km. why does Kenya have such poor health care facilities? Mkenya2019: Splitting the hairs. Do you think what Cocoa has done to Ghana is comparable to what Gold or Oil has done? Of course the answer you don't want to answer is NO. Oil only contribution to your GDP is that offshore OIL RIG - and measly 1B dollars - otherwise the rest of the money ends up abroad - in oil majors account in Swiss or Luxembourg.
Here is your latest export data for 2018 - about 14B dollars in 2018 ..Oil(4.5)+Gold(5.5)+Cocoa(2).
https://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/business/Ghana-s-2018-export-improve-significantly-BoG-data-718978# 1)Receipts from oil exports increased from USD 3.1 billion dollars in 2017 to USD 4.5 billion dollars in 2018. 2) Gold exports on the other hand witnessed a marginal decline from USD 5.7 billion dollars exported in 2017 to USD 5.4 billion dollars exported in 2018. This represents a decline of 5.6 percent.
3) While cocoa exports for 2017 stood at USD 2.6 billion dollars, the figure for 2018 dropped significantly by 21.4 percent to USD 2.09 billion dollars for 2018. |

Can you explain why all the tea farms in Kenya are own by multinationals ? mention one kenyan tea brand and i will mention 10 Ghanaian cocoa products and chocolate brands gallivant: Why would I need a thesis? Drilling for oil is not rocket science and Kenya has had a refinery since the 70s, the largest in the region and we produce almost none of it. The cocoa industry has been proven to be one of the worst cases of Neocolonism left in the world. Imagine the Swiss making all the money in chocolates yet they produce none? People should seriously pray for West Africa. |
