Mpesa is now one world busiest payment system - 2,000 tps - 16 billion transactions per year - this year it probably reached 20B plus transaction.

Likes of VISA worldwide - do 250B transaction volume per year - Safaricom only does 10% of that - in kenya only. UnionPay 200: Master Card 150.


The report shows that M-Pesa processed 2,000 transactions every second in the past financial year, compared to 1,800 transactions per second the previous year.

During the last 12-months it facilitated [b] 15.75 billion transactions via M-Pesa, valued at KES29.55 trillion ($250 billion), a big jump up from 11.68 billion transactions in 2021, valued at KES22.04 trillion ($186 billion). [ /b]

Over the years the telco has also expanded the number of services offered by M-Pesa and evolved beyond just person-to-person money transfers. Now it offers savings and loan products, bill payments, cross border money transfers as well as e-commerce and merchant payments.

There are now over 3.2 million businesses in Kenya accepting payments on M-Pesa, up from 2 million in 2021, and over 492,700 active Lipa na M-Pesa merchants, almost 200,000 more than a year before.

Ghana momo has done almost 3 times what Kenya momo did.. Kenya needs to catch up.

Bringing back the knowledge can't work that way.

Governments (African governments ) should come up with the program to Send some few folks away to gain knowledge and then impart it back home.This isn't easy since most Africans are unpatriotic and corrupt. Again,most African nations lack a long term visions on how to attain their goals. Example, A gov can decide to send few folks away for gaining knowledge, few years down the line,a new regime comes to power,they decide to not care about the program,and they start their new thing.Fast forward few years,the folks in a foreign land are marrying foreign women,taking those new citizenship,and the whole program dies. Or the few tough ones who decides to return,they come back,and the new regime don't care about them

That's what happens in Ghana and most of Africa. You get a Ghanaian in US doing a brain surgery,and Africans are going to US daily for medical treatment, but the same Africans can't go to Ghana for medical treatments while u have a huge number of Ghanaians in diaspora performing the same surgeries

The ones in diaspora and the gov back home are not in "sync"

In Ghana, it's the opposite.

For some reason Ghanaians prefer to make an impact on where they come from. And because 6 big universities are responsible for creating these professionals, people almost knows everyone and in which field they practice and where they've travelled to (this is one of Ghana's biggest problems)

Ghanaians are more loyal to their secondary schools and university halls than anything and that kind of social network always bring them back to impact.
Even if they don't want to come, their friends impress on them to come back.

It is easy to find even Ghanaian medical students abroad bringing their entire class to Ghana for an outreach.

The country does not even need to play a role

In a bigger picture,Africa is loosing and some folks are busy celebrating instead of weeping loudly

Almost all of them, to the best of my Knowledge.
They come back every quarter to lead and give back knowledge, they also share research papers with their Ghanaian colleagues.

Infact to be considered to lead professional bodies in Ghana, you must be able to connect with Ghanaian professionals at the forefront of their fields to network.
