Not entirely true... Rawlings was a good man, with seamingly good intentions, but his problem was that most of the good actions he took was done at the wrong time with wrong methods. and elders :- He didnt even have the vision to know that it will be exploited by political parties and that he should have given it a cap. Just so you know we are about to have hit 300 MPs, thanks to Rawlings.

b) look at all the mining and mineral exploration deals, most were signed under him. Minings companies repatriate all profits back to their home countries, all thanks to Rawlings' deals with them in the constitution.

c) Look at how we have shifted the job of spatial development and the development of the local economy from the DCEs to the MPs, its all the work of the 92 constitution, thanks to Rawlings.

d) Not to talk of all the great business men/women and intellectuals he chased out of the country.

I can go on and on, but if you want to know how Rawlings stiffled our development dont compare him to those other mediocre African dictators, compare him with the likes of Mahatir Mohammed of Malaysia or Lee Quan Yew. Even in Ghana Acheampong was far better than Rawlings.

If we should give Ghana to Lee Quan Yew, and task him with the respeonsibilty of developing Ghana in 20 years, with all the resources etc will Ghana be in this mess? Just ask yourself.

Rawlings kill we ankasa. Most people know but like I said he was so charismatic that a lot of people overlook his shortcomings.

Rawlings did not craft the 1992 constitution, it was crafted by Kuffour and his people to protect Rawlings.

Rawlings had nothing to become our lee Quan yew, the country was under various forms of sanctions and broke after years of mismanagement.
Rawlings took that broke country and stabilized it.

You can't put a cap on the formation of new constituencies, not even the US and UK have caps and that is why there is gerrymandering in democracies.
It is not Rawlings fault that your current politicians are too stupid to know that the more constituencies they create, the lesser the cake for everyone and the more cost it creates for govt. This is class one knowledge.

Acheampong is never better than Rawlings, Acheampong mismanagement and looting of the state coffers is one of the reasons why Rawlings felt the need to do what he did...

Rawlings was not just love for his charisma but also because he made sure the work was done, just like Nkrumah used to do. Under him was one of the few times corrupt people were actually dealt with.
Look at the GRA commissioner running away with his entire family because he signed a corrupt deal with the Offori Attah's mafia organization....under Rawlings, that will never happen.

Prudence in governance existed under him and we had a greater deal of accountability.

MPESA Africa is owned by Safaricom and Vodacom - they managed about 45 trillion KES in 2022. Their reporting and company operations are seperate from Safaricom.

Safaricom which 33-35 trillion KES was from Kenya in 2022.

Ghana can only dream about the scale of MPESA in KENYA. It now does 22-25B transactions annually. Visa does 4 times more.

Mpesa did 35 trillion kshs transaction value from their operation in 6 African countries.

In Kenya, they did only 109 billion dollars transaction value which came about from 65 billion of transaction from Kenyans doing P²p and the remaining 44 was through the banking sector.....

So Kenya did almost half of Mpesa total transaction value, the remaining 5 countries did the rest.

You can go and dispute your statistical service and central bank

Think about it.

Mpesa is in all of Kenya and have almost single handedly replaced traditional Banks in that country and Kenya is 54 million people. Ghana is 33 million people and the rate of penetration of MTN's momo and other mobile money lines cannot be compared to that of mpesa in kenya.

Given these facts, how is it possible that Ghana does higher mobile money transactions than Kenya?
