rvp20182: The policy is how to make that happen. The goal is there...but what is policy to ensure 60% of student study STEMS? Boarding schools is waste of gov money and a horrible British policy that need to go. Why would you waste money building all the boarding facilities when every kid has home and a bed? 95% of schools should be day school. Boarding schools should only be built for special cases...like army or police kids. British build boarding school because that tiny Island people were likely to be out in the world colonizing it - so parents need a place to keep the kids - as they were going to be in Ghana or India or Kenya - now why would Ghanian or Kenya takes his kids to boarding school while he will likely be home forever?
Improve all day schools to have the same standard of education - by using that boarding money - to build model day schools.
Boarding school is an essential part of Ghana education system.. The reason why Ghana is highly united comes from boarding school.. that's where Ghanaian sporting champions a born and that is what is sustaining Ghana's strong educational system. In 3 years, the people you live with become your family.
In the face of lower govt funding, Alumni support is strong because people remain attached to Thier high schools for life.
How they are doing that is in the new curriculum they've already introduced.. introducing various new STEM related courses.
About 80% of secondary schools here already have science resource centers.. They are adding various new labs to the existing schools to make it possible.. All is already in the video.
How do kids in Turkana attend high school when the computer school selection system place them in a school in Nairobi?
In Ghana, by the time kids reach high school level, they are already seeking freedom from their parents and boarding schools provide that for them. If you Interview any high school kid here 97% of them will tell you they prefer boarding school. By the time they come out of boarding school, they are already mature students.
rvp20182: Dr Adutwum is a brilliant passionate educator. I hope he is putting systems in place. Not building one block of school at a time. From the video - I dont get the policy - that would live post his tenure. He is building few model schools. He isnt focusing on policy - like improving teaching education standards - changing school curriculum - investing in technology/internet - and other policies that can be sustained once he is out of the ministry
if you listened, you would have gotten the policy. Making 60% of high school students do sTEM related courses and 40% into the various humanities. High schools already have internet here.
Also, Ghanaian high school don't build one blocks.. it's an entire complexes with boarding houses, dining halls, Assembly halls, sporting facilities and various labs..
rvp20182: And yet gazillion of gold end up in Dubai, India and China that is unaccounted for. You need to check yourself to mental asylum and if you're already there - reduce internet.
They get there because they pass through legal channels with the full benefits received
Ghana stem education have fully taken shape and their programs are quite interesting.. Reshaping Ghanaian high schools to focus on STEM to align outcomes with industry... Hope you guys make good use of his insights
popizaino: Your comments will always makes someone question your sanity.
Between Gold and Elephant tusk which is more easier to sneak out or easily detectable? Answer this and see how foolish you are.
Gold is easily detected at any post so you can't sneak it out, Do you even know what an Ounce of gold look like... Anyone interested in smuggling gold will have to package a lot of it to be able to break even, else it won't make sense. Doing so will get you caught because gold can be detected at the airport... You won't pass physical inspection at the harbour.
If you try using the border post, you won't even get there and NBI intelligence officers will catch you.
Gold is not tomatoes that you can walk to some corner and buy or sell. The buyer needs a license to buy, the seller is a licensed person whose inventory is tracked. Like I said, good luck trying it if you're that stupid. You will see what EOCO will do to you... I know a few cases at EOCO
vaxx: that protect fire outbreak better.i just check on something and I wasn't surprised. It is normal .
Revealed rental yields in ""Accra residential, un-serviced and serviced offices have an average of 7.6 percent 10.1 percent and 14.3 percent, respectively, compared to Nairobi with 3.8 percent, 7.5 percent and 13.4 respectively, respectively, and Kampala with 6.8 percent, 10.6 percent and 6.1 percent, respectively"".
rvp20182: The world already know Nairobi as the global city - fast growing city - the future of africa - the HQ of Africa. You had twitter - it's been shut down. Now what else - maybe you make the africa free trade secretariat... Nairobi is global city
rvp20182: The whole Nairobi is great city except for slums who occupy 2.5% of land mass and 5% of built up area. You cannot even compete with worse part of Nairobi except the slums.
rvp20182: 28 acre with 20 buildings ; That is big joke. That is like little corner of Nairobi in most obscure place. Even JKIA airport itself has lot more than that. Jesus christ. Right within JKIA airport - there many more buildings than that airport city.
rvp20182: The whole of Nairobi has been posted. If you're looking for large expanse of slums you wont see them. They only occupt 2.5% of built up area and are shrinking
so the whole of Nairobi is just parkland Westland upperhill *Karen and *runda?
You guys are so Ashamed of that place you call a city
rvp20182: So they have rich men who come to Ghana. I would be impressed by Ghana if Ivory Poor were moving there to hawk in the streets. If Ivory rich men are coming to have second home in Ghana that is indicator of success in Ivory Coast. Just like Nigeria rich men are now running to Nairobi to buy some sanity
They are here as well hawking just like the Burkinabes and Togolese and Malians. And Ghana has been able to make a lot of them successful both here and in their home countries
rvp20182: The land British took was 2 million acres mostly of Maasai land - and almost 95% was sold back to kenyans in 1960s. What remain is very very little... Kenya and Ghana real estate are not comparable. Kenya is aiming at South Africa level.
Maybe Abdjian can speak - it looks twice better than Accra.
of course Kenya and Ghana real estate ain't comparable because the output value of Ghana is higher than that of Kenya.
So there'll be no basis for comparison, I bet that of Ivory coast is also higher than Kenya.
rvp20182: Ghana is the West African poster child of Hyperinflation. That mean BOG has done a bad job. The 2nd would be Nigeria. The Francophone have done a great job by defaulting to France/Paris to manage their currency.
Ghana at one point it was 1 dollar for 10,000 cedis or 50,0000 cedis. You started again 1:1 ; now we are 1:15; soon we will be hitting 1:10,000 again
In East Africa - Kenya has had stable macro-economics - and we had challenges in 1990s when central bank was under gov.
We changed it - and with 2010 constitution - we took the best - now Central Bank is well run like FEDs.
A country that is Africa poster child of hyperinflation together with Zambia and Zimbwabwe should shut up.
British made a mistake to allow Ghana and such to mint their own money. Now all that gold has never helped.
Ivory coast has just cocoa beans - but is wealthier than Ghana - that has cocoa beans plus many more minerals.
Say that to an Ivorian and the person will slap you in the face ... You think it's for know reason their rich men are constantly running to Ghana to.
Hyperinflation is the reason why Kenyans are generally poor compare to Ghanaians. Just look at the prices on you market and how high they are and you'll start taking your agriculture seriously, instead of waiting for half a billion dollars worth maize to arrive from TZ for you to make Ugali.
rvp20182: Your poor land rights explain why your real estate is stunted. Kenya land courts are the busiest. And we use English Common Law. That is modern law. Not traditional stool whatever nonsense. Whoever has the title deed is the absolute and conclusive owner of that land. There is no long stories.....you have the title...you sell or buy the land...without calling for family or clan or community meeting. You take that title..and get bank loan. The only case is on the validity of title - is it genuine or fake document - not long stories of the queen sister gave me this stool land bla bla.
You've forgotten that my real estate sector is larger than yours .... Your African traveller Arrived here and was impressed by the options Next joke please
You've also forgotten that it was Ghana who introduced you to English common law, also Ghana courts remains the one of the most busiest on the continent.
Kenya, you guys can't even find lands to own because every land has already been taken and those foreign owners won't release it .
You need another redistribution... Because how on earth do you have your own country but you don't own lands.
rvp20182: Ghana has never managed it's macro-economics - so dont run to US Fed. Just run to Ivory coast or Benin or Togo. You're sorrounded by countries will well managed forex - although it's run from Paris. Why go all the way to US?
Central bank should deal with interest, money supply, forex, bla bla without any assistance from anybody. They should be driven by data.
Kenya like US fed - the central banker is appointed by president and approved by parliament. Then that is it - he is free like a bird to manage the central bank - for 4 yr tenure. He can tell off anyone. He can only be removed through a very tough process.
This constitutional office in kenya.
Data driven is what their policies are led by ... Their direct policy intervention has led to an explosion in the wealth of Ghanaians which has led to a huge middle class greater than Kenya. That is a success just like the US Fed achieve from the 80s.
The Kenya central Bank governor is stock with policy directions from WEF, IMF and WB and that is why their policies has only negatively affected Kenyan and led to an explosion in multi dimensional poverty and general poverty to the benefit of Indians, Arabians, Chinese and Brits.
rvp20182: Nope. It's run by Ministry of Finance. That is why Cedis is in trouble often. The Mof are under political pressure to finance the budget. You dont want to give such a guy the minting press - because he will likely print himself our of political pressure - and economy will be damned.
First reform you need is to have independent central banker. That mean security of tenure for governor and deputy governor. Independent board that decides and strict do core central banker job.
And keep the ministry of finance or treasury faaaaaaaaaaar away from Central bank. Mof or Treasury should HAVE NOTHING to do with Central bank appointment. They should at best be enemies.
MOF job is to finance the budget - to move the ship as fast as possible with development or infrastructure- while Central Bank job is to stabilize the the ship so it doesnt capsize.
It's capscizing in Ghana because MOF is running the show. BoG should have been one to tell MoF that gold purchase is nonsense on stilts but they will likely get fired.
It better if you allow France to manage cedis for you - Ivory Coast done way better - and so have french colonies - they dont know what hyperinflation is - because Paris manages their currency - huge responsibility that require huge shoulders.
we already have an Independent central bank ...
Kenya needs something like what we have so you guys can free yourself from IMF policy directions which has consistently left a lot of Kenyans in poverty
rvp20182: Last deputy governor of BOG kicked out by Minister of Finance. Basically MOF runs BOG . And you expect to get handle of CEDIS when MOF is controlling the printing press. The guy just order for printing of money when they get into problems or bone-headed buy gold when they are told forex are running out.
Kenya central bank is completely and totally independent . They enjoy security of tenure. Not even the president can tell them anything. As soon as they are appointed - they have 4- or 8yrs if renewed tenure. All the central bank board members are also independent of MoF.
I guess you don't know how the heads of US federal reserve is appointed ... Also you may not know that if the president feels he can't work with, he can ask for your removal.
No wonder COK has supervised the kind of deprivity you see in Kenya.
There are times when money supply need to be increased to create an expansion in the economy
rvp20182: How is Ghana Central Bank run. Or it's like Nigeria one I saw that distribute farmers fertilizers - rice anchor program run by Central Bank of Nigeria - CRAAAAZY.
Yet their core business the Naira has three exchange rates....from 400 to 800..huge mess.
It's run like the US Fed ... If you know how they operate then you don't need to ask
rvp20182: I am not asking for communal or family land. I am asking for individual land like say in Accra or cape coast.
You've forgotten that allodial title is individual and also collective family members who all have their share. So the question you're asking is nonsense.
All you need to know is, every Ghanaian own an Allodial title and every family member have a customary freehold to that land,so land here can only be leased and not sold outright. If you need a land from somewhere you're not from, you'll have to lease it. Because the original freeholder is a family member somewhere.
rvp20182: Central Bank in kenya and in modern democracy are independently run - and have no business in managing debt.
That is work of kenya treasury or ministry of finance - who procure, pay or etc the debt.
Central Bank of kenya - the governor is just CEO - but decision are made independently by a board - on base interest rate - and other bank regulatory.
You live either in banana republic or dont know squat. It likely you live in banana republic with emasculated central banker accepting nonsense like gold purchase for oil
yes Central bank is independently run though their policies come from the IMF and other Bretton wood institution in the case of Kenya.
Secondly their policies can either transform lives positively or negatively by either increasing money supply or reducing it.. which ever decision they take either make those under it jurisdiction poorer or richer.
We've seen pieces of policies from the US federal reserve bank that caused an explosion in individual wealth in the US.. We've seen the Bank of England decisions too.
Why is the Kenyan central bank different, why has it supervised the total deprivation of the Kenyan society?
rvp20182: How much is English Common Law Freehold. That is land where you're as an individual the absolute owner without any encumbrance or time limit.
is it English that you don't understand or it's law?
Allodial title is the highest land title, there's no time limit, no payment and can move from one generation to the other
rvp20182: Central Bank role is to not transform lives of kenya. It's to maintain stable macro-economic environment, be gov banker and ensure that banks are sound & well regulated.
Kenya we have undoubtly some of most educated economist. Ghana can learn a lot from this talk.
Then you don't know how powerful a central bank governor is... Decisions made by them effectively transform lives ..
If Kenya had economist, it wouldn't have come to Ghana to beg with it entire economic management team staying in Ghana to plead a negotiation from Ghana that will see the freezing of Kenya debt repayment
