Phones / Prices Of All Data Plans Will Be Increased Starting From Dec 1st - NCC by justino57(m): 7:29pm On Nov 26, 2016
What is really happening in Nigeria? Why is it that the average citizens are presented with one of the worst hardship conditions? It is not getting funny any longer as the common man in the street doesn't have any hope again. No quality education, no work/employment, no better infrastructural development, recession, strict laws etc.

Imagine when everyone rejoiced that the telecom industry in Nigeria has finally heard the complaints of people by reducing price of data plans and call rates this year, the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) just mandated all Telcos in the country including MTN, Etisalat, Airtel and Glo to increase price of data plans effective from December 1st 2016
This is absolutely not acceptable by me especially in this period when so many people including students are finding life so difficult because of the economic situation in the country. How can students from poor family survive? How can they be subscribing for data to carry out researches and assignments? Our government doesn't think in that part. They just think in one direction.

This is sad, NCC believes that this is one of the ways they can generate revenues for the Government. They know that we can’t do without buying data… so they decided to mandate all Telcos to increase their data price… hmm!

Recently, CBN governor Godwin Emefieli proposed taxes on phone calls that exceeds 3 minutes. My question is; what have they done with other taxes and privatization they did before? We wake up everyday with one bad economic news or the other.

With this, we might be getting just 500MB with N1000 instead of the 1.5gb we normally get. So sad.

Just call MTN's 181 self-help service number now to here things for yourself.

What's your take on this decision by NCC? Do you think it will make the nation better or is it the same old story?

Food / Please Take Note 6 Tests To Help You Spot Fake Rice by justino57(m): 8:01am On Nov 22, 2016
You can determine if your rice is fake by carrying out any of the simple tests below.

1. The mortar and pestle test

When molding a few grains of rice with a mortar and pestle, if the powder gives a quite white colour, you are good to go but it has a yellow discoloration, your rice must be fake.

2. The fire test

You know what plastic smells like right. So, get a lighter and burn a handful of rice. If it catches fire and smells like burnt plastic, you have fake rice.

3. The water test

Get a glass of cold water. Pour a tablespoon of raw rice in the glass and stir. If the rice goes to the bottom, it is all good. If it floats at the top, be careful because it means it contains ‘plastic rice’. Do not eat.

4. The mold test

Boil the rice. Leave it in a warm place for like 2-3 days. If mold does not appear in a few days, your rice is fake and should not be consumed. It will not get mold because plastic is not affected by the weather or temperature.

5. The boiling test

Observe the rice while boiling. If it starts forming a thick layer at the top of the pot, it is ‘plastic rice’.

6. The hot oil test

Just take some of the rice drop into some real hot oil. If it is plastic, it will melt or stick together or stick at the bottom of the pan.

Share these tips with your friends and family so they do not end up eating ‘plastic rice’. These tests are very simple. Do not eat plastic rice, be careful.

Education / Again, Senate/ASUU Meeting Ends In Deadlock by justino57(m): 7:43am On Nov 22, 2016
ABUJA—SIX days after a meeting between the Senate and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU ended in stalemate, another interface between both parties again ended in deadlock yesterday.

At the end of the eight hours meeting which ended 8.32 pm last night, there was no concrete agreement between the university lecturers and the lawmakers.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Chairman, Senate Committee on Tertiary Education, Senator Jibrin Barau, APC, Kano North, said both parties agreed with some of the issues raised, except one that had to do with their earned allowances, adding that they (ASUU) were going to make consultations with their members on the way forward.

Barau said: “You can see we have spent about 8 hours in this very important meeting. We have deliberated and thank God we have dealt with all the issues and we have agreed in all the issues except one.

“We have adjourned to make consultations, every sections of the meeting will get back to his constituency and report to it what transpired. At a later that we will reconvene to thrash out the remaining issues.

“Is about the earned allowances that need to be paid the university lecturers, the government due to the paucity of funds proposed certain amount of money but ASUU thought otherwise that the money was quite inadequate but he’s going back to his members to report to them and make consultations and later get back to us.

“But we do hope they come up with good news that they have accepted the government offers”

Efforts to speak to ASUU to get their own side of the story proved abortive as the president refused to speak with journalists.

Meanwhile, ASUU yesterday said meetings and consultations were ongoing to ensure that government did the needful.

Speaking with Vanguard yesterday, ASUU-UNILAG Chairman, Dr Laja Odukoya, said the one week warning strike of ASUU was still on, adding that there was possible of an indefinite strike should government fail to do the needful.

Jobs/Vacancies / 6 Things You Must Remove From Your Cv Very Important by justino57(m): 5:30pm On Nov 21, 2016
These are the things you must take note of cause it can ruin ya chances of getting a job

1. Unprofessional email address

If you are still using an email address from your university days, it might be time for a change. Such email addresses like ‘fineboy234′ or ‘sexygirl4u’ are ruining your chances. Just create an email address with your first name and last name. Keep it simple and classy.

2. Jobs you were fired from

Here’s the thing, most people think they have to put every single job experience on their Resume. This is not true. One thing you should avoid is a job you were fired from for unethical conduct. Your potential employers will do their homework and call your former employers. One wrong feedback can cause them to take you off the short list.

3. Your photo

No one needs to see how glamorous you look for them to hire you. Besides, recruiters should consider you for your experience and skills. Putting up a photo can lead them to unfairly discriminate against you (age, race, etc).

4. Your hobbies

Listening to music, playing football, these are things that are guaranteed to bore your potential employer. There is no need for your hobbies to have an honourable mention on your CV. If your hobby is related to your job, it is okay to mention it during your oral interview. No need to dedicate space to talk about what you do with your spare time.

5. Personal life

Prospective employers also do not need to know about your married life and kids. In fact, this could hurt more than it helps. If your interviewer is concerned about hiring someone with children, he/she could dump your CV in the trash before getting to know what you can offer. Don’t disqualify yourself for the job before you’ve even had a chance to meet the interviewer.

6. Irrelevant jobs

Just like with jobs you were fired from, jobs, where, the skills are not relevant to the position you are applying for, should not be on your CV. Only include work that shows how your experience directly translates to the job you want. Hiring managers generally want someone who can do the job and this means they peruse your resume so they can see if you have successfully performed similar job duties elsewhere.

Romance / 7 Reasons Men Dislike Virgins by justino57(m): 6:35pm On Nov 18, 2016
Now that’s our of the way, let’s discuss the 7 reasons guys detest virgins:

1. The virgin stereotype

This stereotype says that virgins are naive, ignorant about sex, dull, prude, have to be handled carefully, care-less about a man’s sexual needs, too emotional, extra careful, play too hard to get etc. Dating a virgin to many guys is a burden, someone you would have to encourage to kiss, someone you would have to beg to reach second base. Remember guys are physically aroused. Virgins come across as choosy, love conscious and will rebuff a guy’s sexual advances. Most guys would ask, “why the stress?”

2. The icing on the cake

Most times a guy likes a girl and goes after her ‘aggressively’. During the ‘toasting’ stage, he is all about love and isn’t deterred when the girl tells him of her ‘virgin’ status. He is love-struck obviously. He tells her “I want you for who you are not for the sex”. She’s like “awwwww, that’s so sweet of you Kelvin”. They start dating.

Did he mean it? Obviously.

Will he mean it in a few months time?

Hell no.

When his sexual genes begin to take effect, his eyes begin to wonder and his hands begin to feel some soft God made portions of her body, no one will tell Kelvin that although this cake is sweet, icing will make it perfect. He begins to ask her for icing, she reminds him of his earlier “I don’t care if you are virgin” stand. The sexual friction begins to take its toll. Three things would happen; she gives in and loses the virginity to him, she doesn’t give in and he cheats on her to get the icing from somewhere else or they break up. Sad ending right?

Guys think this far and ask themselves, “why the stress?”.Super glue nature: A few years back, a friend of mine.

3. Super glue nature

A few years back, a friend of mine. Let’s call her Becky (not her real name). She is beautiful with a body to die. She asked me to disvirgin her. No joke. I liked her but being the man that disvirgined a girl I hardly felt anything for scared the hell out of me. I couldn’t.
Are my alone in this school of thought? Nope. But why? Simple.

Most virgins are clingy 95% of the time. A girl kept her virginity for so long, the guy that takes it away has to be special to her and when he does, she never forgets him. A lot of girls get clingy and kinda devoted to the guy that takes her virginity.
To prove my point, no girl ever forgets the name of the guy that disvirgined her. Ask around.
So why would a guy in this economic recession be entangled with a girl that can’t stay away from him because she lost her virginity to him?
He would ask himself, “why the stress?”

4. Opening the floodgates

Remember Becky from number 3? Yes the girl that begged me to disvirgin her. So she was finally disvigined by another guy and according to her was enjoying sex so much that she had had sex with about 5 guys as of last year. This was a girl that was a virgin for 25 years andin two yearshad done the nasty with 5 other guys. The floodgates have been opened.

I asked myself, so not only would I be the one she would forever remember as her first, I would now have the guilt of opening the door for other men to enter? No way.
Some guys would ask themselves,

“Why the stress?”.

5. Impatience

Let’s use John and James’ story to understand this point. So John just started seeing Blessing who is not a virgin, after a few days of dating, they both do the nasty. She has done the nasty before and he also has experience. They both bring their external experiences together to make a mind blowing sexual adventure.
James on the other hand is seeing the shy, and reserved Kemi who is a virgin. Sex comes up and she shrugs him off. After sometimes, it comes up again, she agrees to try it but is scared. He has to “talk” her through it. Tell her it’s going to be okay. Makes sure she doesn’t hurt. Makes sure he takes it easy with her. Makes her feel comfortable. Tries it the first time, she cries and stops. Tries it a week after, same result. After a dozen trials, she finally gets comfortable but with her lack of experience, sex for James is boring and uneventful.

John is enjoying his love life and his sex life while James is struggling on both ends of the rope.

They meet and while discussing, John asks James, “why all all stress?”

6. Heartbreak

This part of the article really happened to me. I hope she doesn’t get to read this but I just have to use the story to buttress this point. Growing up, I dated this beautiful girl. She was a virgin and I didn’t mind. I was more or less a virgin too then. After a while, I causally made the “sex move”, she gently rebuffed my advances. I locked up (became unbothered). She then gave me an ultimatum, let’s date for a year and then we do the nasty. I said OKAY.

Getting to a year, we started having friction and I knew deep down I wasn’t going to spend much time with her anymore. She was still a virgin mind you. A few weeks after our first year anniversary, we saw and as expected she came prepared to be disvigined but I ended up breaking up with her. Why? I could have taken her virginity and still broken up with her right?

READ ALSO: Listening is your way to a girl’s heart

We weren’t working and I didn’t want to dirvigin her and break up with her too. That would have been heartbreaking for her. So we parted ways. She cried but I felt in my heart that we did the right thing.
Fast forward about four years after our breakup, she wasn’t a virgin any longer, one thing led to another we did the nasty as “just friends”. Difference was I didn’t have to break her heart to get in her pants. We still friends till now.

Good guys ask themselves, if it’s sex I want, why deceive a virgin with love and end up breaking her heart, “why the stress?”.

7. Fling

Lastly and the most glaring reason why most guys detest virgins is because they are interested in a quick fling and not a long term committed relationship. A guy that loves you would see beyond sex but in the same vein, will most girls that love a guy see beyond money?

Crime / Re: Pablo Escobar Trivia: 53 Interesting Facts About The Drug Lord! by justino57(m): 12:20pm On Oct 09, 2016
46. The war against Pablo Escobar ended on 2 December 1993, amid another of Escobar’s attempts to elude the Search Bloc.

47. Using radio triangulation technology, a Colombian electronic surveillance team, led by Brigadier Hugo Martínez, found him hiding in a middle-class barrio in Medellín.

48. It has never been proven who actually fired the final shot into his head, or determined whether this shot was made during the gunfight or as part of a possible execution, and there is wide speculation about the subject.

49. Some of Escobar’s relatives believe that he could have committed suicide.

50. Soon after Escobar’s death and the subsequent fragmentation of the Medellín Cartel, the cocaine market became dominated by the rival Cali Cartel until the mid-1990s when its leaders, too, were either killed or captured by the Colombian government.

51. Many people mourned his death, especially many of the city’s poor whom Escobar had aided while he was alive. About 25,000 were present for his funeral.
Crime / Re: Pablo Escobar Trivia: 53 Interesting Facts About The Drug Lord! by justino57(m): 12:19pm On Oct 09, 2016
24. Soon, the demand for cocaine was skyrocketing in the United States, and Escobar organized more smuggling shipments, routes, and distribution networks in South Florida, California, and other parts of the country. He and cartel co-founder Carlos Lehder worked together to develop a new trans-shipment point in the Bahamas, an island called Norman’s Cay about 220 miles (350 km) southeast of the Florida coast.

25. Escobar was soon able to purchase 7.7 square miles (20 km2) of land in Antioquia for several million dollars, on which he built his home, Hacienda Napoles.

26. He created a zoo, a lake, a sculpture garden, a private bullring, and other diversions for his family and organization.

27. At one point, it was estimated that 70 to 80 tons of cocaine were being shipped from Colombia to the United States every month.

28. In the mid-1980s, at the height of its power, Escobar’s Medellín Cartel was shipping as much as 11 tons per flight in jetliners to the United States (the biggest load shipped by Escobar was 23,000 kilograms (51,000 lb) mixed with fish paste and shipped via boat, as confirmed by his brother in the book Escobar).

29. Roberto Escobar also claimed that, in addition to using planes, his brother employed two small submarines to transport the massive loads.

30. In 1982, Escobar was elected as an alternate member of the Chamber of Representatives of Colombia, as part of the Colombian Liberal Party.

31. Escobar quickly became known internationally as his drug network gained notoriety; the Medellín Cartel controlled a large portion of the drugs that entered the United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Spain.

32. The cocaine was produced with coca from Bolivia and Peru through other drug dealers, such as Roberto Suárez Goméz, since Colombian coca was initially of substandard quality, and demand for more and better cocaine increased. Escobar’s cocaine reached many other countries in the Americas, and in Europe through Spain.

33. It was even rumored his network reached as far as Asia.

34. He had an effective, inescapable policy for dealing with law enforcement and the government, referred to as “plata o plomo” (literally “silver or lead”, colloquially “[accept] money or [face] bullets”).

35. Its execution resulted in the deaths of hundreds of individuals, including civilians, policemen, and state officials.

36. He was allegedly responsible for the 1989 murder of Colombian presidential candidate Luis Carlos Galán, one of three assassinated candidates in the 1990 election.

37. Also he was responsible for the bombing of Avianca Flight 203 and the 1989 DAS Building bombing in Bogotá.

38. Pablo Escobar said that the essence of the cocaine business was “Simple: you bribe someone here, you bribe someone there, and you pay a friendly banker to help you bring the money back.”

39. In 1989, Forbes magazine estimated Escobar to be one of 227 billionaires in the world with a personal net worth of close to US$3 billion.

40. Meanwhile his Medellín Cartel controlled 80% of the global cocaine market.

41. It is commonly believed that Escobar was the principal financier behind Medellín’s Atlético Nacional, which won South America’s most prestigious football tournament, the Copa Libertadores, in 1989.

42. While seen as an enemy of the United States and Colombian governments, Escobar was a hero to many in Medellín (especially the poor people); he was a natural at public relations, and he worked to create goodwill among the poor people of Colombia.

43. Pablo Escobar was also responsible for the construction of many hospitals, schools, and churches in western Colombia, which gained him popularity inside the local Roman Catholic Church.

44. He worked hard to cultivate his Robin Hood image, and frequently distributed money through housing projects and other civic activities, which gained him notable popularity among the poor.

Crime / Pablo Escobar Trivia: 53 Interesting Facts About The Drug Lord! by justino57(m): 12:18pm On Oct 09, 2016
Pablo Escobar was a Colombian drug lord and trafficker, often called “The King of Cocaine”. Let’s see some amazing fact and trivia about him!

1.His full name was Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria.

2. He was born on December 1, 1949 and died at December 2, 1993.

3. His cartel, at the height of his career, supplied an estimated 80% of the cocaine smuggled into the United States, turning over 60 million dollars a day, or 21.9 billion dollars a year, in personal income.

4. He was the wealthiest criminal in history, with an estimated known net worth of US $30 billion by the early 1990s.

5. He was also one of the 10 richest men in the world at his prime and lived in his self-built Hacienda Nápoles.

6. Pablo Escobar was born in Rionegro, in the Antioquia Department of Colombia.

7. He was third of seven children to Abel de Jesús Dari Escobar, a farmer, and Hermilda Gaviria, an elementary school teacher.

8. As a teenager on the streets of Medellín, it is thought that he began his criminal career by allegedly stealing gravestones and sanding them down for resale to smugglers.

9. His brother and accountant, Roberto Escobar, denies this, claiming that the gravestones came from cemetery owners whose clients had stopped paying for site care and that they had a relative who had a monuments business.

10. Pablo Escobar studied for a short time at the Universidad Autónoma Latinoamericana of Medellín, but left the University without obtaining a degree.

11. Pablo Escobar eventually became involved in many criminal activities with Oscar Benel Aguirre — running petty street scams, selling contraband cigarettes and fake lottery tickets, and stealing cars.

12. In the early 1970s, he was a thief and bodyguard, and allegedly made $100,000 by kidnapping and ransoming a Medellín executive before entering the drug trade.

13. His next step on the ladder was to become a millionaire by working for contraband smuggler Alvaro Prieto.

14. Pablo Escobar’s childhood ambition was to have a million pesos by the time he was 22.

15. By the age of 26, Pablo Escobar deposited 100 million pesos (more than US$3 million) into a Colombian bank.

16 In March 1976 at the age of 27, Pablo Escobar married Maria Victoria, who was that time 15 years old.

17. Despite the fact that Maria’s older brother worked with Escobar in small-scale criminal enterprises, the relationship was discouraged by the Henoa family who considered Escobar socially inferior.

18. Together they had two children: Juan Pablo (now Juan Sebastián Marroquín Santos) and Manuela.

19. Virginia Vallejo published the memoir Amando a Pablo, odiando a Escobar (2007; Loving Pablo, Hating Escobar), in which she describes, among other topics, her romantic relationship with Escobar.

20. It is rumored that Griselda Blanco conducted a clandestine, but passionate relationship with Escobar. Several items in her later-found diary linked him with the nicknames “Coque de Mi Rey” and “Polla Blanca”.

21. In 1975, Pablo started developing his cocaine operation. He even flew a plane himself several times, mainly between Colombia and Panama, along smuggling routes into the United States.

22. When he later bought 15 new and bigger airplanes, including a Learjet and six helicopters, according to his son, a dear friend of Pablo’s died during the landing of an airplane, and the plane was destroyed.

Wale Adeniyi, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Customs Service has revealed that the Comptroller-General of the body, Colonel Hameed Ali (rtd), has removed the ban on importation of rice.

He also stated in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the import duty payment at land borders has been reintroduced.

According to him, the restriction used to be applied only at land border stations, adding that all rice imports through land borders by rice traders would attract the prevailing import duty of 10 per cent with 60 per cent levy.

“Over the years importation has been restricted to the seaports because border authorities have found it difficult to effectively monitor and control importation of rice.

“When the decision to ban it (rice) was taken it was not an effective measure because smuggling of the product thrives with people using different means of conveyance including small trucks, bicycles and even animals – putting them on donkeys and some actually carry it on their heads.

“These new measures will be for customs to reognise their anti-smuggling operations in the border areas and ensure that all those importers through the borders bring their rice through approved routes and pay their extant duty,” he was quoted to have said.

Ali has also recently warned Nigerians to desist from patronizing rice smuggled through land borders.

Speaking at a joint news conference on illegal rice importation to Nigeria on Tuesday, October 4, in Abuja Ali said 99 per cent of rice smuggled through the land borders is not fit for human consumption.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), he said NAFDAC samples have showed that smuggled rice through the borders was unfit for human consumption.

POLICE/DSS OPERATIVES MANHANDLE GOVERNOR WIKE IN FAILED ATTEMPT TO ABDUCT A FEDERAL HIGH COURT JUDGE

▪Governor Wike alleges plot to declare state of emergency in Rivers State

The illegal siege on Rivers State by Federal eecurity agencies continued unabated during the early hours of Saturday as hundreds of Department of State Services (DSS) operatives and policemen attempted to illegally abduct a Federal High Court judge residing at Number 35 Forces Avenue in Port Harcourt

The illegal failed abduction was led by Mr Tosin Ajayi, Rivers State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) and Rivers State Police Commissioner, Mr Francis Odesanya.

The operatives of DSS reportedly rough-handled Governor Wike, pushing him around and injuring his hand. A few of the operatives cocked their rifles and threatened to shoot the Governor.

They were irked by Governor Wike's arrival at the scene shortly after the failed abduction process began. It was learnt that Governor Wike received security information on the illegal moves, minutes after the operation started.

The security operatives blocked the entrance of the residence of the Federal High Court judge at about 1am on saturday morning, claiming that they were acting on orders from above. As they dragged Governor Wike, they insisted that they must be allowed to leave with the judge.

However, the commotion attracted passers by and journalists who thronged the vicinity to know why hundreds of security agents in several Patrol vans had been mobilised.

Upon the arrival of the national media, the Rivers State Director of the DSS, Mr Tosin Ajayi jumped into his vehicle and fled the scene.

However, addressng journalists, Rivers State Police Commissioner, Francis Odesanya said the two security agencies were at the scene because they received privileged information.

Odesanya claimed he was at the scene as a peace maker. He declined comments on why the Police joined the DSS to abduct a serving Federal High Court judge.

In an interview with journalists at the scene of the failed illegal abduction of a Federal High Court judge by the Police and DSS, Governor Wike said it will not be under his watch that security agencies wiĺl be allowed to entrench needless impunity.

He declared that their reckless action portends danger to the nation's democracy, noting that he is convinced that President Buhari is not aware of the level of impunity being perpetrated by Federal Securiy agencies.

Governor Wike stated that whatever the situation, the rule of law must prevail in a democratic setting.

He said if the security agencies had a lawful directive to implement, they must follow due process .

According to him: "Not under my watch wiĺl I allow this kind of impunity to take place. That is why we are here. I don't know which judge they were detailed to abduct. I didn't bother myself to know which judge. All I am interested in is that, at this level, it is not allowed.

"He is not a criminal and he is not an armed robber. If the person has committed an offence, invite him. It is only when he refuses to honour the invitation that you can adopt this commando style.

"The Commissioner of Police is here, the Director of DSS is here. Their operatives cocked their guns and threatened to shoot me. I have never seen that before. Again , this is to tell you what we are facing . We know that more will come. For us in this state, we shall continue to resist it."

Governor Wike added: "It doesn't matter what it will cost. When you talk about liberty, sacrifices must be made. We are not trying to stop an arrest. All we are saying is that things must be done decently and in line with the rule of law.
"Rivers State is under siege. For you to see a governor out at this time of the day, something is wrong. A siege is an understatement. If this type of thing happens next time, the people wiĺl resist it to the last".
The governor stressed: "They are trying to do something funny in this state, probably to declare a state of emagency
