Mergers and acquisitions are a part of each and every business. It means that there are times when companies choose to become a part of other company to keep the business going. Be it groceries, clothes, shoes or makeup, this one smart move is the reason why we never go out of options when we go shopping. You probably know that PepsiCo boasts about being an owner of Cheetos and Lays and that Facebook has acquired WhatsApp and Instagram recently. Here are some big brands that you probably don't know are owned by other giant companies:

Travel / 8 Reasons You Should Live In Port Harcourt At Least Once In Your Lifetime by justino57(m): 7:34am On Oct 07, 2016
I can think of a million and one reasons to live in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. Aside from the fact that the city is a beautiful place to live in and it offers a different culture, there is so much going on there!

Port Harcourt city (PHC) attracts thousands of tourists a year, making it one of the most prominent cities in the country in terms of visitor popularity. From the people to the places, from the food to the drinks and from the bars to the gardens; here are Jumia Travel’s reasons why you should make this lovely city your home…even if it’s just once in your life!

A Different Culture

At some point in your life, you will have a need to be exposed to a place that’s completely different from what you are used to and PHC offers the perfect location to not only experience a different culture; but also expand your mindset and learn about how other people live. Almost every local government area in the city has its own unique culture and you can learn a lot about people as you immerse yourself in it.

Jobs, jobs, and more jobs

From large oil companies like AGIP, MOBIL to a list of multinationals, the number of companies that have set up shop in Port Harcourt city (PHC) is absolutely endless. Nigeria as a nation maybe suffering a recession at the moment, but nevertheless, prospects in PHC right now are good. There are plenty of internships and jobs to help you develop your skills and establish your career in your chosen industry.

You can actually save

There is the rumour that PHC is a very expensive city and things are not really cheap. While there is a measure of truth to this, Port Harcourt is hardly a city you would describe as notoriously expensive. The standard of living is still a little lower than in such cities as Abuja and Lagos and aside from that, food items, clothing, and transportation is quite affordable; you just need to know where to go and how to navigate the city. You, therefore, do not spend so much catering to daily expenses and you can save for your dream house or goal.

Transportation is easy

You do not necessarily need to have a car when living in PHC since there are easy and well-organized transport system. The transport in PHC is so great, the commuters are calm and enter their choice of a transport system in an orderly manner. Even better, you can literally walk everywhere. For instance, you can trek from Waterlines to Agip or from mile-1 to Town, everywhere almost close to each other; unlike in Lagos and other metropolitan cities within the country where everywhere is just far from each other and walking could imply suicide.

Bole and fish

You may have tasted it in other parts of the country; you may have liked it or you may have hated it. In PHC, however, Bole and Fish, a popular meal among the locals in the city, is a different ball game altogether. With a diverse and exciting array of this delicious cuisine found literally at every corner of the city– and it is wonderful to have it quite literally on tap wherever you go- it is sure to excite your taste buds and give you a reason to stick around.

Marvellous Shopping

People in PHC love shopping and as such, you’ll be spoilt for choice with boutiques and Malls strategically positioned around town. Your friends will be dying to come up for a weekend, then you can always head to one of the many lounges or bars to put your feet up after showing off the miles of shopping heaven that is the city.

Active nightlife

Nightlife in Port Harcourt is huge. Home to hundreds of pubs and bars, embracing diverse music scenes, PHC is a great night out 7 days a week. A lot of silent places in the daytime suddenly come alive with music and activities that drag night owls from their homes to hubs, joints and hotels. With numerous live events hosted weekly, you’ll be sure to catch your favourite band on one of the nights.

The city is of full of wonderful people

The reputation of the PHC people for being hostile to visitors is misdirected. The

Phones / How To Fix ‘unfortunately App Has Stopped’ Errors by justino57(m): 11:26pm On Oct 04, 2016
There is one problem that plagues beginner and advanced Android owners alike: the cursed Unfortunately, (fill in app name here) has stopped error message. It appears when you're in the middle of using an app, and then forces that app to close. Annoying, right? Fortunately, there is a way to stop it. Here's how to fix Unfortunately, app has stopped error

Clear out the app's storage

This problem often arises with the contacts, gallery and launcher apps. The procedure to fix this is generally always the same.

First, navigate to Settings on your device.
Go to Applications > Application manager
Swipe left until you find the All tab.
Scroll down to the app that's causing problems and tap on it.
Here you will find the Clear data and Clear cache options.
Clear cache is the option you should start with. It will get rid of saved data that allows apps to load a little quicker when you launch them. Clearing it means the app will open a little slower, but your main problem might well be solved.

Clear data will erase all the app's data, including files, settings and accounts, so don't use this unless you have to.

blob.jpg782x692 118 KB
Uninstall and reinstall the app

If the app isn't built-in, you can also try uninstalling it and then reinstalling it from the Google Play Store. Simply open the Play Store app, open the menu bar on the left hand side and tap on My apps. Find the app in question and hit Uninstall, which takes a few seconds. Atterwards, you can install it again.

Turn it off and on again

You can also try doing a soft reset, which simply means restarting your device. This is super simple and quite effective if your phone has been on for a long time. A soft reset will power cycle your phone, turning it off and then back on again.

It’s a good idea to turn your phone off every few days for a few minutes – this will help a sluggish phone with a variety of issues, whether they're related to the app, network, audio or email.

Last resort: do a factory reset

blob.jpg360x640 55.6 KB
When the above solutions have failed, you can resort to factory reseting your phone. When doing a factory reset, ensure that you have backed up all of your data beforehand. I repeat: back up all of your data first. A factory reset will wipe your device and set it back to factory defaults, taking everything, including any bugs, with it. You can restore your apps and data afterwards easily, as long as you've made a backup.
You can carry out a factory reset through the Settings menu, or using a button combination.
For more detailed information on ANDRIOD PROBLEMS comments below:point_down:
In the case of Google Play itself not working, the solution is a little more extensive: delete the cache as a first step and if this doesn't clear things up, clear your data, and finally uninstall any Play Store updates. The same steps apply to Google Play Services, but try them one by one – you don't want to lose all your Play Store preferences for no reason. Check out the complete tutorial on what to do when the Google Play Store isn’t working for more advice.

Did these solutions fix the problem for you? What others fixes do you know for these little pesky Android problems that you can share with your fellow beginner users? Tell us in the comments.

Jokes Etc / How Yoruba Women Treat Their Children by justino57(m): 5:53pm On Oct 03, 2016
YORUBA MOTHERS!!!

Yorùbá mothers are the best when it comes to child upbringing.
Yorùbá mothers produce the best range of slaps:
IGBATI,
IFOTI,
IGBAJU,
IGBARUN,
IFORUN,
IFAKUN,
ILADI,
ABARA.
These slaps will make you think you were adopted.
IGBATI will make you correct your wrongs instantly!
The beauty of IFOTI is that you will confess your sins on the spot.
IGBARUN, IGBAJU and IFORUN will make you expose those who committed the crime with you without hesitation.
ABARA and ILADI will make you pee in your new pants.
Now ABARA is the worst.
Apart from all these, we have an advanced one which is called IGBAJU OLOYI.
When you receive that one, you'll lose balance and your head will go into "auto-search" as you'll be looking for what hit you.
This will make you do all the actions of the other slaps aforementioned at once!
OH! IGBAJU OLOYI! It can reset someone to 3D (DEAF, DUMB, and DAFT). She will say let's go home and you will say it's in my pocket ma.
God bless our parents for the good upbringing.
If you were brought up in Yoruba land, regardless of how caring your mother was, you'd have encountered one of this

Health / Newborn Baby Eaten Alive By Rats In Hospital Incubator by justino57(m): 7:44pm On Oct 02, 2016
A lady from India, Lakshmi Babu, was elated after giving birth to a four-and-a-half pound boy. Little did she know that she and her husband, Chavali will face the most traumatic moment o ftheir life.

Lakshmi’s boy was prematurely born and had weak lungs. As a result, Lakshmi and Chavali took him to a government hospital to cure their newborn’s respiratory complications. The child was taken to the pediatric ward for special care and was placed in an incubation unit for his recovery.

Many hospitals in India have this regulation that nobody from the baby’s family is allowed hear the incubator because of health and hygiene concerns. So the couple would monitor their baby’s health by pacing around the room. One day noticed that there were a number of rats in the ward. They alerted an administrator at the hospital, Dr. Venugopala Rao, who put in a request with the engineering department to fix the hole in the ceiling where the rats were entering.

Little else was thought of the rats until the next day when Chavali heard his son screaming and asked one of the nurses to check on him. The nurses delayed this request, despite the boy’s screams continuing with increased urgency. When they did finally go to the incubator, they found that there were two rats inside who had gnawed off some of the child’s fingers, part of his legs, and most of his left eye. Although the child was rushed to the intensive care unit (ICU), there was little chance for recovery. Sadly, the child died the following day.

To make this tragedy even more bizarre, while the government in Andhra Pradesh is conducting a report on the incident, the father who had recently lost his son was questioned. According to him, after his son had been declared dead, a hospital administrator had tried to cheer him up by reminding him that ‘you have another son.’ Until the government’s investigation is completed, both Dr. Rao and the administrator are suspended.

Foreign Affairs / Mugabe Threatens Africa Will Leave United Nations by justino57(m): 12:20am On Sep 27, 2016
Though the 71st General Assembly of the United Nations just ended successfully, a new controversy that could tear the organisation apart is brewing.

CCTV Africa is reporting that the Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has threatened that Africa would pull out of the UN because of the global organisation’s refusal to admit the continent into the permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council despite various efforts.

Robert Mugabe returned from the UN general assembly with a pull-out threat
Mugabe claims that many attempts by the African Union to become a member of the security council had failed, according to the report which quoted the Sunday Mail.

“This year we went to UN as an African committee after we agreed to join hands and speak with one voice on the issue of vetoing power…It’s unfortunate that we had not finished and agreed on our position as the African Union, but I hope all will be fine next year
“But next year in September if they keep on refusing to accept and give the Africa Union the veto powers we will pull out,” the report quoted him as saying at the Harare International Airport upon his return to the country from the General Assembly which was held in New York, the United States.

According to the report, the security council currently comprises China, Russia, Britain, France, and the United States while Britain, France and America are said to be frustrating Africa from becoming a member.

“They must not cry foul when countries from these regions pull out and form our own Union…The Union will have countries such as China, India and other Asian countries, and then we have to see that which countries will remain in United Nations,” Mugabe said.

We all know that in this modern world of technology, the Wi-Fi signal is everywhere: in our homes, in the restaurants – everywhere. Many people think that it’s a great way of connecting many mobile devices and laptops – without using any cables. The companies that make the mobile phones must follow certain rules and instructions and make these devices safe for us – but still, we aren’t 100% sure that these devices are safe for us.

WI-FI: A SILENT KILLER THAT KILLS US SLOWLY
Now, we are going to answer the million-dollar question – are Wi-Fi signals harmful to the human body? Here’s what you need to know – in order to connect online, our wireless devices like tablets, laptops and phones use routers. The router emits electromagnetic waves or better known as WLAN signals, that can be very harmful. The truth is that we ignore this fact because we have very little or no knowledge about its side effects. But the real truth is that these signals can be really harmful. A recent study, conducted by group of experts at the British Health Agency, has discovered that routers have a bad effect on the growth of plants and people.

CONSEQUENCES OF WI-FI EXPOSURE:
frequent strong headaches
chronic fatigue
sleep issues
pain in the ears
lack of concentration
As we said before, we all know that the modern technology is just a segment of our life that we cannot live without. Now, when we know the truth, we are going to show you a few tips and tricks on how to protect yourself and your family from these harmful signals. Here we have few useful advices that will help you use the router safely and at least lower the potential damage from it.

Some people are simply brave; they have the strength and courage to withstand situations other people cannot handle.

They are calculative individuals who think critically about things before they attempt it even though many people are backing out. They understand the importance of having those things done especially if they sense the urgency of that situation.

We have to acknowledge the fact that people respond to things differently; while some are brave enough to look for solutions immediately, some may be in shock and may not be able to think at all. This is normal as the adrenaline in our body system makes us fight, fly or be frightful.

So when people run when they feel they are in danger, it is their own way of responding to the situation at hand. Others may fight back and put it as self defense why a majority of the people present may exercise fear.

Two young men in Akwa-Ibom state had a great time; they were able to kill a big python and could not get over the feeling. In this part of the world, people will be more than glad to show off their prize even though they know it will end up in their pot of soup.

Knowing fully well what the economy is, these young men will have a party with it as they do not need to buy meat or fish for the next couple of days. Killing a python is a proof that they will do well as hunters if they ever need to explore that potentials.

Find below the pictures they took with the python:

Education / University Of Ibadan Is Now One Of The Best In The World - Report by justino57(m): 8:53am On Sep 23, 2016
A 2017 global ranking of universities released by the Times Higher Education has placed the University of Ibadan in Oyo state at number 801 among the best 978 in the world.

The university was the only one in Nigeria that made the list.

University of Ibadan is now among the best 1000 in the world
Prior to this time, no Nigerian university made the list of the best 1000 and the argument majorly was that the tertiary institutions in the country were lacking in quality research.

The University of Oxford topped the rankings in the 12-year history of the table.

“It knocks the five-time leader, the California Institute of Technology, into second place in the World University Rankings 2016-2017,” the report said, adding that “Oxford’s success can be attributed to improved performances across the four main indicators underlying the methodology of the ranking – teaching, research, citations and international outlook.

“More specifically the institution’s total income and research income is rising faster than its staff numbers, its research is more influential, and it has been more successful at drawing in international talent.”

The report showed that two new Asian universities make the top 100 (Chinese University of Hong Kong and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

The City University of Hong Kong, University of Science and Technology of China, Fudan University and Hong Kong Polytechnic University also joined the first 200.
