Sports / 9 Things You Dont Know About Rio Olympic by justino57(m): 4:07am On Aug 17, 2016 |
1. A gold medal gilded with the minimum six grams of pure gold - as stipulated by the International Olympic Committee - would be worth just over £200 in scrap metal, according to the latest gold prices from the London Bullion Market Association. 2. Each gold medal weighs 500-grams and all are at least 92.5 per cent recycled silver. They contain just 1 per cent gold. The last time Olympic medals were made of pure gold was at the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm, Sweden. 3. Each medal takes two days to make. Brazil's National Mint - located in Rio - has had an 80-strong team working round the clock to make the 5,130 Olympic and Paralympic medals. 4. The silver used in the Rio gold medals has been recycled from mirrors and X-ray plates. 5. The Olympic Motto 'Citius, Altius, Fortius' ('Faster, Higher, Stronger') does not appear Summer Games medals. It has featured on four Winter Games medals, though. 6. Summer Games medals are traditionally smaller, lighter and thinner than those presented at Winter Games. 7. Michael Phelps has the all-time record with 23 gold medals. Ex-Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina holds the women's record with nine. 8. Team GB is the only team to have won at least one gold medal at every Summer Games since the first was held in 1896. 9. The Paralympics gold medals will contain small steel balls to help visually impaired athletes identity them. |
Romance / Below Are Six Things Single Ladies Should Stop Worrying About. by justino57(m): 3:23am On Aug 17, 2016 |
Love is a beautiful thing and lucky are those who have found it. If you’re yet to find it, keep calm and wait for it. While you wait for it, it’s not the time for you to be depressed and start feeling sorry for yourself. Apparently single women are having sleepless nights about a lot of things that they shouldn’t really be worried about. You can’t live your live being frequently consumed with worries about things that really don’t matter. Just because, you’re still single at a certain age doesn’t mean you’re a failure. Marriage shouldn’t be the only thing we look forward to in life. There’s more to life than answering ‘Mrs. somebody’, so you shouldn’t contain yourself in the box that society has set for you. Below are six things single ladies should stop worrying about. 1. When will he put a ring on it: Dear single ladies, your ring will come when it will come. Stop worrying about it. It’s not your worrying that will make it happen. Think of the possibilities life has to offer you and take advantage of it instead of to waste your time. Life is too short to be having sleepless nights about when the ring will come. 2. All my friends have settled down and have children: This particular scenario happens to a lot of single ladies. They start to worry when all their friends are getting married and having children and it seem s like no man is even paying them any attention. You could easily begin to envy and even hate your friends if you let it fester and it would consume you. 3. Always being a bridesmaid, never a bride: Your time will come just hold on. Don’t waste your time and energy worrying about when it will come. In the meantime, enjoy celebrating with your friends. 4. Your fertility clock is ticking: From the time a woman reaches childbearing age, she knows that her clock is starting, and her time for having children is running out. In this day and age, you don’t have to your life be ruled by your biological clock as there are quite a few other options out there now than there used to be when it comes to fertility. 5. What your parents, relatives and others think: You’ll never be happy if you constantly worry about what others think about you. Have you ever thought that their reason for always asking when you’re getting married may be because they can’t think of anything more diverse to ask you. Sometimes, they are just only trying to look out for you. 6. Never finding Mr. Right and having to be alone forever: Your life can be every bit as meaningful without a man by your side. Your life should not end just because you don’t have a man to share it with. You don’t need a man to be fulfilled. Don’t spend your time worrying about what will be. What’s the use of worrying, it’s never worthwhile. If you think worrying long enough will change things, then you must be on another planet. Worrying will never change the outcome. So live your life and stop worrying. Life is too short to worry about anything. You had better enjoy it. |
Sports / Wolves FC Have Indicated Interest In Signing ‘super Mario’ by justino57(m): 3:07am On Aug 17, 2016 |
– Wolves FC have indicated interest in signing ‘Super Mario’ – The club via Twitter invited the Italian striker to join the team – The Seasiders are currently 17th on the NPFL table Nigerian Professional Football League club Warri Wolves FC have indicated interest in Italian striker Mario Balotelli The Seasiders who are currently 17th on the current NPFL standings are desperate to avoid relegation, but their searchlight for a striker has beamed on ‘Super Mario’. In a tweet via the official handle of the club, the Warri based team invited the 26-year-old player to join the squad. “Hello Mario Balotelli we have 10 games to play before our season ends. You can come train with us and play for us,” @Warri_Wolves_FC tweeted. Hello Balotelli @finallymario we have 10 games to play before our season ends. You can come train with us and play for us. — Warri Wolves FC (@Warri_Wolves_FC) August 14, 2016 However, Italian legend Andrea Pirlo has advised Balotelli to stop wasting his talent. The 37-year-old has expressed sadness at the player who is on loan at AC Milan, saying the clock is ticking for him to save his career. “He frustrates me, but I do have so much affection for Mario,” the Milan and Juventus legend was quoted by Mirror (UK). “He is infectious to be around. When I used to see him walk into training for Italy, he would have this big smile on his face – and I would just burst out laughing – and start wondering what is he thinking, what is he up to? “Mario should not just be a character the media write about for good stories. We shouldn’t forget what a special player he is. “I have played with some of the best strikers, and I can tell you Mario has all the attributes to be one of the best strikers in the world. “By now I thought that is where he would be, that is where he should be. He has no more time to waste.” Recall that Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp has earlier told the player to leave the club so as to reach his world class potential. Warri Wolves will continue their battle to avoid relegation when they face MFM FC of Lagos at the Agege stadium on Wednesday, August 17.

Culture / A Village Where Dead People Are Roasted And Stored Rather Burry by justino57(m): 2:57am On Aug 17, 2016 |
– There is a village in Indonesia where they roast their dead and store them rather than bury corpses – The village is called Wogi and is owned by the people of the Dani tribe in New Guinea – The only way to get to Wogi is via air travel because there are no roads there Tribe chief, Eli Mabel posing for photographers with his mummified ancestor, Agat Mamete Mabel, outside a typical home. Photo: Daily Star UK A village has been discovered in Indonesia where the dead are not buried but roasted over an open fire and kept as mummies for a long time. Daily Star UK reports that the “Dani people from the central highlands of western New Guinea, Indonesia, have been able to preserve their dead for centuries with smoke. Though it reports that the technique is no longer in use, a tribe in Wogi – a village close to the regional capital, Wamena – has held on to a number of mummies which it refused to bury. According to tradition in that region, smoking someone over a fire for weeks, or even months, is the ultimate show of respect for the deceased in Dani culture. In recent years, this bizarre culture has brought tourists to this isolated part of Indonesia, more than 2,000 miles from the capital, Jakarta. Daily Star UK reports that “Visitors can also get a glimpse of Dani traditions at Baliem Valley Festival, an annual event with mock battles between tribes.” The Dani tribe was first encountered by explorers in 1909, when they played host to a Dutch expedition in one village for several nights. One part of the tribe, the Grand Valley Dani, remained undiscovered until 1938 when an American spotted them from a plane.

Education / List Of Courses That Has Not Been Cradited In Any In Some University By NUC by justino57(m): 12:19am On Aug 10, 2016 |
– List of courses that have not been accredited in Nigerian universities have been released – A certificate issued for those courses will be considered void – The university of Abuja has the highest number of unaccredited courses The National Universities Commission (NUC) has released a list of some courses that have not been accredited. The unaccredited courses pose serious danger to students who study them as the certificates issued by these universities for the courses will not be officially recognised. Premium Times reports that 2016 accreditation status report indicated that these unaccredited courses were taught in 37 out of 143 universities in the country. The Quality Assurance Department of the NUC is in charge of accrediting courses in the universities. The NUC insists that for a course to be accredited, it must meet the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) that has been stipulated by the commission. Some of the requirements include: “qualified faculty members, good learning environment and adequate teaching materials – equipment, books and journals”. According to the NUC, accreditation is necessary to ensure “employers and other members of the community that Nigerian graduates of all academic programmes have attained an acceptable level of competency in their areas of specialization.” It also says it is also important to certify courses to assure “the international community that the programmes offered in Nigerian Universities are of high standards and that graduates of the institutions are adequate for employment and further studies.” According to the commission, the pre-accreditation process include “drawing up a list of academic programmes to be certified, compilation of list of panel chairmen/members, time-tabling, budgeting and organizing the accreditation coordination meeting for panel chairmen and members in a simulation workshop.” READ ALSO: New JAMB registrar resumes office; see how he was received (photos) The post-accreditation activities include “analyzing accreditation reports (technical and administrative), ranking of programmes and universities based on their accreditation status, publishing of accreditation status of programmes, issuance of certificates to programmes that earned Full and Interim accreditation results.” According to Premium Times, 13 federal universities, 16 state universities and eight private universities were running courses that had not been accredited. Some of the high profile institutions include University of Nigeria, Nsukka; University of Benin, University of Jos, University of Calabar. The biggest casualty seems to be the University of Abuja which has 15 of its courses, including Law, unaccredited. Romance / 5 Unnecessary Things Warri Girls Do In Relationships by justino57(m): 8:12pm On Aug 05, 2016 |
Warri, a popular city in Nigeria’s southern region is one place to find very beautiful and attractive women if you are in search for one. Not only are they physically endowed, they tend to be the “ride or die” chick that most guys look for. As expected, these girls are not a 100% perfect as there are certain things they do in relationships that are completely unnecessary and even a little cruel. Visiting Warri and looking to date a girl from the city? you may want to check out Jumia Travel’s list of 5 unnecessary things Warri girls do in relationships. Demanding freebies from the man Warri girls rarely ever plan to spend any of their own money on drinks at the bar or club. Instead, they count on their feminine wiles to convince guys to shell out for their libations. Likewise, when they are in a relationship, even if they are truly and genuinely in love with their partners, they expect to get freebies such as salon/hair money, cab fare, e.t.c. Buying Presents for His Relatives Warri girls tend to believe that a great way to get a man to commit is to ensure his family accepts and loves them. In a bid to secure their position as the favored “wife”, they tend to buy presents for the guy’s parents, siblings, and relatives. This is really unnecessary though as in reality, a man’s commitment is never based on how close you are to his family or how much investment you have made financially. Wearing the Jersey of his Sports Team Really? It is not uncommon to find a Warri girl who has no clue about football or who secretly loathes watching the game wearing the jersey of a football club with a random dude’s name on the back just because it’s her boyfriend’s club. Even worse is when they actually have a favorite team and instead don the colors of their man’s obsession because he asked them to Staying Overnight at His Place Every day The Warri girl wants to ensure she knows every activity the man has lined up and so rather than just spend the weekends with him, they include weekdays. They suffer the stress of preparing an overnight bag every single day. In fact, some just move in and redecorate. This is really unnecessary. Moving in with a guy before you are married is not a huge motivating factor for a Warri man or even any man who wants to fully commit to the relationship or move it forward. Beat up the other girl or their bf This is rather cruel but is a common occurrence with Warri girls in relationships. In the case where their partner cheats on them, they track down whoever he cheated with and beat up the girl or in some cases beat both the girl and their boyfriends up. Most of them do not hesitate to inflict any kind of physical pain on their partners without fear of repercussion. This is highly unnecessary, though, as the best solution to a cheating partner is usually to leave him. Abeg nairalanders make una add una own watin una don notice |
