It works for some. l think it has more to do with upbringing and parental orientation. I rem telling my technician few hours ago whilst driving home from work about what we were taught by our parents.

the marriage started being good. we married and moved from 1 bed flat to 2 bedroom flats means we've moved from good to better. We had a 2000 model car a month after marriage is good and 2 years after we have 2 Suvs. These are signs of good becoming better and the aspect of the phrase 'for better' comes in to play. The wife who's always (definitely) be the insatiable would prefer it going from good to better and even best. Here there would be no talk of potential or immediate separation.

I think we both are saying the same thing! Maybe the issue here is the choice of word 'worse'. Like I said before, everything in life has it own challenge including marriage. My concern here is the 'phsyc' the word 'worse' brings and perhaps how it affects peoples view of marriage. Instead of seeing the issues that come up in marriage as challenges...... We then see it as worse and might want to opt out. If we see the issues we face in life as challenges, why then see that of marriage as 'worse'?!
I don't know if u get my point but my issue is that I don't like the way that vow paints marriage! I just feel it makes pple view marriage as some burden while the bible says it is honourable. The bible paints it good and that's true......but for this vow, it will take couples that can create a better understanding out of it.
For instances, we have pple that might be scared of marriage because of this 'worse' thing when ordinarily, it could be a challenge that one can walk through. E.g when a married couple bring up their issue and someone just comes and say " remember, marriage is for better for worse, so bear it"... U know! For me, its just doesn't go down well. What of if u say " marriage is good, what u re going through is no worse, its a stepping stone, its just a challenge u two will overcome,there is no worse in marriage its just two people overcoming a challenge in their life". And this 'better for worse' thing makes it sound like one person will have to suffer or be at the receiving end instead two people facing a challenge together!
Now, the unmarried are looking out for the perfect one cos no one wants the so called 'worse' instead of having someone that u can face any challenge with and still stand together happily. I don't just like the 'phsyc' that vow creates! Would rather hv a vow that depicts what I want from my marriage and when the challenges come, I know its foreign and fight it together with hubby to ensure that our own vow stands. I don't expect 'worse',will never see any challenge as 'worse' and will never tell anyone that 'marriage is for better for worse'. If anyone wants to still use that particular vow.....fine. Use it as ur vow! But a situation whereby marriage is termed as 'for better for worse thing'.....not a fan of that! Marriage is simply honourable and good!
Hope u get my point! Wish I could write it just the way I see it for better understanding! But If I try to explain my thought, I will end up writing 100 pages!
Bottom line, I wouldn't want to use that vow at all at all and won't use that phrase to address any marital issue! And if I happen to find myself joining any couple, that vow won't even come close! Lol #seriously beefing that vow#

I wouldn't use the phrase 'for better for worse'... For me, it depends on what u see and understand from the word.... There is no 'worse' in Christ. Everything good and perfect gift is from Him. if u study man before the fall and after the fall, u will see that life was perfect before sin came in. But tnk Sweet Jesus, He can to redeem us into the original plan of God of which there is no a 'worse'.
If there is any challenge we face in life, its not from Christ! Rather, he has given us the power via His word to overcome.
So Toba, for me o........there is no 'worse' in Christ and there is no where in scripture that I know of where our marriage to Christ is written or described as 'for better for worse'.
A scripture says 'in this life we will have tribulations, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world'. Even in this verse it says 'in this life' and not 'in christ'.
That's the way I see my own o! The best thing that ever happened to humanity is Christ and there can never be a 'worse' in Him.
So I'll put my own as 'for better for best'.... 'For sweeter for sweetest' no matter the challenge! Lol
