Politics / Re: Cbn Threatens To Sack More Bank Mds by kafanchan: 10:32pm On Dec 02, 2010
Mr CBN governor, BOFIA says you can only remove a bank MD if the bank is in a grave situation or if the MD is running the bank in a way that is detrimental to the bank. Not when the bank is not observing corporate governance. If the shareholders are interfering and the bank is moving on well, what is your business? You just want to get to Elumelu and Ovia by force. It is their company, they are the major shareholders and even the corporate governance that you preach allows them to have a say in their businesses.
Politics / Re: Did Anyone See Sanusi & Aganga On Tv Answering Furious Senators? by kafanchan: 8:18am On Dec 02, 2010
I dont like sanusi, I dont like the senators either. So make dem kill demselves. I no send their papa. Serves the senators right, na now dem go know say na person with basket mouth na im dem approve as CBN governor. They will be kicking their ass now for not sanctioning him when he withdrew 620bn for his "voodoo" bailout without their consent.
Sanusi should know that he would not have become (or he would not have remained ) CBN governor if those senators actually know what they are doing. His qualification no even near CBN governor in the first place (so they should not have even considered him.) He is benefiting from their foolishness.

Well, I didnt watch the Q ans A on NTA yesterday, so I no know whether he was able to prove that they actually spend up to that or not.

I know the senators spend much, I dey even laff when I see one allowance called HARDSHIP allowance, I say shuo!!!!!!!!! no be we poor people suppose dey collect hardship allowance?

No matter the beef for sanusi, I will agree with him that senators spend much. His problem is the figures that I think he exaggerated. That has been his problem. He like exaggerating and causing confusing in all sectors of the country.

Politics / Re: I Applaud Chilean Government Efforts On Miners - Can This Happen In Nigeria? by kafanchan: 2:15pm On Oct 13, 2010
semid4lyfe:

Gawd! The comments on this thread make me wanna retch and throw up.

It seems people just use every opportunity to run down the country. . .which is exactly what this thread was created for and meant to achieve.Imagine the thread title sef: I Applaud Chilean Government Efforts On Miners - Can This Happen In Nigeria?. . .sick and intended for only one outcome IMO. So if na Naija government, the OP for nor applaud their effort shey? Welldone!

Let me ask, doesn't the government launch rescue efforts when storey buildings collapse burying people alive? Don't they dig through the rubble trying to rescue people and bring them out dead or alive? During massive floods in which houses are destroyed and people are displaced, don't the relief agencies (NEMA & Co) provide temporary shelters and food to the displaced? So what's make this case so different and make you guys think the government will react differently?

I have no doubt in my mind a similar rescue operation would have been launched in Nigeria by the Government and the miners would be brought out eventually . . .it would have taken longer (more days) perhaps but even Chile had help from other more technologically advanced countries. We'd have outside help too if this happened here.

Walahi, this thread has spoilt my mood & my day. I think I'd just log off and come back tommorrow.

Nigerians. . .sick sick people!

I no gree, no be this naija. Those ones you said did not involve much capital and logistics. By the time huge money is involved, govt will either back out or somebody go chop the money for the contracts involved. The miner  arestill staying alive is not an easy job for the chilean government. Do we have a president that can send letter to "ordinary miners"? Do we a govt that can organise TV for them to watch football matches?Do we have a govt that will ensure communication between the miners and their families?  Do we have a president that can be humble enuf to go to the site and chat with the wives of the miners. Abegi.

Our useless government should learn from this. Tell me if those miners will not be ready to die for their country, tell me if those people will ever evade tax or will not stand still when national anthem is being sung. Tell me if those people will ever boo their president when talking. Tell me if those people will not slap anybody talking about their country/government anyhow Those idiots up there  in our govt  should know that you don't command respect, you earn it. They dont need to tell us to be patriotic, we are sensible, let them show us they care for us first, we will give them all the respect they need.

Religion / Re: Pray For Erastus Akingbola Of Intercontinental Bank by kafanchan: 6:33pm On Oct 11, 2010
I f God is marking sins, who shall stand? It is not God's laws and judgement that is keeping all of us alive till now, it is his kindness and mercies. We should not ask God for judgement, unless we want all of us to die before this month end.
Religion / Re: Pray For Erastus Akingbola Of Intercontinental Bank by kafanchan: 5:58pm On Oct 11, 2010
Oh lord, I pray for Erastus Akingbola, that he will get a fair hearing, he shall not get a judge like Sanusi .(that is 100% sure he will go to jail even before hearing starts), according to your promise in your word, you said you would make the path straight before us. Prepare a smooth way before him as he faces trial in Jesus name
If he is guilty(which is more likely O Lord), u will give him the heart to repent. As for the punishment if he is guilty, it is left for you O God to decide. O lord, many young christians are looking up to this man as a role model, if he is disgraced, it will definately affect your work in the heart of young christians. You said in your word that "if my people that are called by my name should humble themselves and pray and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven, and I will heal their land". David did worse than this, u punished him o Lord, and midway through his punishment, u decided to forgive him. You own the world, you can do and undo. Israelites defiled you, but you still love them till date. Your word says "all have sinned and come short the glory God" O lord, in your anger remeber mercy. You said you would have mercy on whom you would have mercy on, O lord have mercy on him. On his behalf O lord, I come bodly to your throne of grace and I obtain mercy for him in this time of trouble. O lord, pray for him as you did for Abraham .This I ask through Jesus christ our lord. O l

I didnt get to read the part where she was alleged to have given herself a loan, could you please help point it out to me. Thank you.

They are saying that for the court to have confiscated her property without her objecting, that means she actually used some of loan for herself or atleast she stole money. It is true because I confirmed it from my Dad's friend that is a Judge.

She is actually guilty, my own is question is 'what about other MDs", (na im make me dey feel for the woman - I feel bad when I see a case of double standard),  Prosecute them too, that is when me, you and every sane person in this country will know that we are on track to real justice and fairness.

Oceanic lost depositors money, First bank lsot depositors money and wrote off billion of naira last year. What makes this one a fraud and the First bank case a genuine business decision gone wrong?

It is not decision gone wrong my brother, it is MAN KNOW MAN. First bank know sanusi and oceanic bank doesnt. I wish this thing done to Ibru will go round other MDs too. I am more than 70% sure not a single MD will be left (Imean those MDs under Soludo). I just have this feelings that as long selective judgement continues, we are doomed in this country. Man go just tif money, and e go make sure say im dey humble enuf to pally any government in power. Shey u know of the issue of SEAWOLF and FIRSTBANK. Sanusi never bullied First bank for giving one organisation loan worth 28% of its shareholder's fund. To make the matter worse, the loan was reclassified instead of being written off ( the evidence was once posted on NL but I cant lay my hands on it now). The same offence few other MDs are facing trial for. Just imagine Ibru going to jail and Ovia, Elumelu, Akinfehinwa and Tayo being celebrated. So sad, my brother.

I have a dream, that one day all thieves will be made to face judgement irrespective of their affiliation or connection. That is when I can boldly say "Naija is there".

Kafanchan, I have to step in here because you are beginning to insult the intelligence of people on this site. I am a lawyer and I can tell you for nothing that there would have be no reason for Mrs Ibru to have entered into a plea bargain to surrender assets worth 150 billion naira which she acquired lawfully unless she is mad in which case she would not have been fit to plead. I really think you are trying to defend the indefensible here and it would be best if you gave it a rest.

So it is her wealth she used to buy assets of $1Bn?

If your daft self had bothered to read news, you would know she was awarding herself loans from depositors money to buy assets to enrich herself.

So, a thief can come to you and call another person a thief, persecuting his "thief" enemies and shielding his "thief" friends? And u ll hail him? Were ni e se. walahi.

I can see somebody calling me Ibru relative, I dont have to be her relative for me to feel for her. Let us look at it this way. She did those things because other MDs were doing it and going scot free under Soludo, why prosecuting only her, why not with others so that they all share the same that only her and five others are sharing. Let us be humane. She should be jailed, but along with others.

Amsorry, Mr Sharp, what is more grave about fraud of $4K than intentionally mismanaging $1BN?

You think the mismanagement was not done in a way that it favoured her, her family and friends, Miiiiiiiister Shaaaaaaaaaarp?

Run away slowpoke, thank God u are alive, it is been a long time. Please prove that the mismanagement was done in her favour. U think the court acts on mere speculation. I guess u re a Nigerian policeman, am I right? Idiotic Ignoramus.

Hercules07,
I still don't believe EFCC could prove she is guilty of embezzlement. The judge said the three offences attract 13 yrs or so, so there is nothing less severe about the three charges EFCC levied againt her. They only reduced the punishment because she was able to refund the amount she was accused of mismanaging. I think mismanagement is different from embezzlement and fraud in the court of law. Na we laymen just dey look am as the same. Please, please and please, let us stop saying she stole money. The court did not say she did. The court said she gave out loans recklessly. I just feel bad about it cos I feel she is a victim of witch hunting. I would have been so, so so happy if Ovia, Elumelu, Tayo, Sanusi himself, Akinfehinwa and co can be arraigned for the same crime because they were all doing that during share and oil boom. That is the only time I will know that Sanusi is carrying the crusade with sincerity. I know you ll not like the way I responded to Sagamite, but that is the only language that the bunkum understands.

Silly judgement, just six months?I weep for this country,d woman that defrauded ppl of close to 1million naira the other day was sentenced to ten years, this is insane.

Bros, you are not sharp. The woman you were talking about was found guilty of fraud. Cecilia Ibru was found guilty of only mismanagement, acting above her capacity and not redendring statutory returns. Fraud is not among her crime according to EFCC and the court. Let us all be reading carefully between the lines and be observant before making comments. Dont misquote me please, I am not in her fan.

nex:

In law, it is best for the prosecution to pursue charges which they have obvious hard evidence against the accused rather than the charges that carry the highest punishment but which they cannot prove because the accused will walk free.

Let's not forget that even a deadly criminal like Al Capone in the USA, after several murders, assassinations, robberies, bootlegging, bribery, intimidation, extortion, and obstruction of justice cases he had faced and walked free, he was finally nailed for tax evasion because that was what the prosecution had hard evidence on.

After Cecilia has done her time, when more substantial evidence is obtained on other charges, she can then be prosecuted on those.

Well, though I'm not a lawyer, but I believe it is also a crime for one individual to register more than one company name to carry on exactly identical business concerns.
You are sharp. That is just it. Although I will still consult some company lawyers before I'll agree or disagree about your last paragraph and sentence. This is the first time I will be hearing that.

Wait o , I just read on www.compassnewspaper.com that her three offences are :

The anti-graft agency had alleged in the amended charge that Ibru granted a credit facility in the sum of 20 million US Dollars to Waves Project Limited which was above her credit approval limit as laid down by the bank.

She was also accused of failing to take all reasonable steps to ensure the correctness of Oceanic bank's monthly return to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) between October 2008 and May 2009.

Mrs Ibru was also said to have recklessly approved the grant of a credit facility in the sum of N2 billion by the bank to one Petosan Farms Limited without adequate security as laid down by the regulations of Oceanic bank, thereby committing an offence punishable under section 15 of the Failed Banks and Financial Malpractice in Bank Act.

Does it mean she wasnt sentenced for stealing money? Or let me put it this way. It is like she was not found guilty of stealing money. Maybe that is why her sentence is short. She was only accused of being reckless.

She is entitled to keep some houses which include her main residence in Lagos no matter d price plus one in her home town, probably one in Abuja and one abroad. As a chief executive of a bank she would be entitted to favaroble interest rates which d general public does not have accesss to, secondly she would be entitled to huge bonuses for expanding d bank over d years.

Is that what the court says? I am just asking but I think it is only 150 bn thay the court seized because they can only seize what was traced to her to have come from the money that she stole. We all know that not all her money was stolen. She has other legal ways of making money too.

I feel she should get more than just 6 month. Anyway, let us see the gravity of the crime she was convicted for.
