As fans, friends and family mourn and pay tributes to the life and times of DJ Arafat who perished in a motorcycle accident, a rare video of the late Ivorian assaulting a fan on stage has re-emerged on social media.

Recall, the Ivorian disc jockey passed on after sustaining severe injuries from a collision involving his motorcycle on August 12.

The video which was recorded in 2016 showed the moment DJ Arafat charged at the fan that climbed on a stage to hug while he was performing.

An avoidable accident that occurred along the Oteri-Ovwor expressway in Ughelli, Delta State has hospitalized many after a young lady ran an SUV into a lotto shop, injuring the attendant and others.

Although no life was lost in the mishap, severe damage was done to the Lexus SUV, the kiosk and motorcycles of some of the lotto players who were casualties and sustained various degrees of injuries.

According to eye witnesses account when our correspondents arrived the scene, the vehicle lost control after the lady got distracted while kissing her boyfriend who was reported to be helping her perfect her driving skills.

Police men and road safety officers drafted to the scene declined comments but part of the offenses committed include; driving on a highway without a learner’s permit and also endangering the life of motorists by getting cozy with lover while driving.

A visit to the Emergency Unit of the General Hospital, Ughelli where the injured victims were hospitalized and receiving treatment, revealed that the lady and her boyfriend were whisked away to a yet to be disclosed private hospital, even as police officers towed the damaged vehicle and motorcycles to the station for further investigation.

It was an eyesore as the corpse of a young man was in the early hours of the day found after he was electrocuted to death.

The young man suspected to be a serial cable thief was reported to have met an untimely end when he invaded one of the transformers in ogharaefe town in Ethiope West LGA to steal cables in the dead of the night while others slept.

Pictured with the cables around him and his operational torch on his chest, the young man according to eye witnesses met his untimely death when authorities restored electricity as he was detaching the cables from the transformer.

While many said it was good riddance to bad rubbish, a few others that were sympathetic mourned and pitied his family for the lost.

As at the time of filing the report. Local government authorities were said to have evacuated his corpse.

A lot of controversies have been generated since Governor Ben Ayade announced the State Interim Taskforce on Anti Deforestation with the mandate of stopping illegal logging of woods in the state.

Cross River State is blessed with the largest rain forest in the country and earns millions of dollars yearly from world organizations to preserve this forest as a way of curbing climate change! To demonstrate his desire to maintain the rain forest the governor recently hosted a "Green Carnival" to encourage the planting of trees in the state, and about 1 million trees was planted across the state to make up for the large trees that have been fallen from illegal logging!

Before now, the Anti deforestation committee was seen as a 'gold mine' because of the huge financial reward that members receive from illegal timber dealers and as such, several persons lobbied heavily to be nominated as members of the Anti deforestation committee.

Recently, Governor Ayade dashed the hope of many when he made public the list of the new anti deforestation committee. A lot of persons were shocked as this list could not capture their interest. Many felt that the names announced by the Governor did not consider political jugganuts in the state.

Firstly, away from the usual, the Governor in his wisdom named a woman - Hon. Florence Bassey for the first time as Chairman of the committee to work with other pragmatic and vibrant young men; like Erasmus Ekpang and Achilles Akuku who are seen as unrepentant loyalists of governor Ayade!

Just recently, I read an article online titled: "The Illegality of Gov. Ayades Anti-Deforestation Taskforce Committee" by one Benjamin Ashaka-Oweh who accused the committee of complicity in illegal logging of timber in the state, appears to be a well hatched and calculated cheap blackmail to distract and cause disrepute to the Committee as can be clearly seen in most of the points raised in the said article. For instance, the author said Governor Ayade had promised to pay five hundred thousand naira (N500,000)to the committee for per truck of woods impounded but still went ahead to allege that the Chairman and Secretary were collecting ninety thousand (N90,000) naira bribe from Timber Dealers per Truck, how can a reasonable person sacrifice five hundred thousand (N500,000) naira for ninety thousand Naira(90,000)?

He also mentioned a visitation made by the Secretary of the committee - Mr Erasmus Ekpang to the immediately past DG Anti-deforestation Hon Abubakar Ewa of which investigations reveal that the said meeting held three days after inauguration for the sole purpose of receiving handing over note from his predecessor Rt. AVM Osim.

Further investigations into the matter revealed that the said Article was sponsored by one Mr. Mfon Bassey who is also a member of the committee. Mfon was said to have felt slighted when a woman was named the Chairman of the committee ahead of himself, who had lobbied so hard for the chairmanship to advance his personal aggrandisement.

From the first day the committee was inaugurated, the said Mfon has been making efforts to sabotage the activities of the Committee to raise a presumption of incompetence in the side of the chairperson, thank God for the seeming understanding and support of other members of the Committee.

In several occasions, Mr Mfon was alleged to be parading himself as the chairman and also went ahead to constitute his own parrallel marshals/agents made up of his former boys at CTRA against the one constituted by the entire committee, his second grouse was that out of the 3 vehicles given to the committee of which one each was shared by the chairman to the three senatorial districts, non was given to him.

In what was seen as yet another desperate attempt to hatch his nefarious plans and gain unmerited favour from the government, Mr. Mfon was alleged to have started paying timber dealers to log woods which he will in turn present to the state government as illegal wood apprehended from the waterways.

Our investigation also revealed that unlike the former taskforce which apprehend few Trucks in four years, this interim Taskforce has impounded more trucks with Timber evidence at wood park Calabar. The committee lead by the Chairperson have visited all the operational points to get first hand information on activities of wood loggers across the state and at no point have they compromised their stance against illegal logging of woods in the state in line with the Governor's directive as alleged by the said report.

A young lady was found dead early this morning, in a hotel located in D-line, Port Harcourt.


According to a reliable source, the yet to be identified young woman reportedly lodged into the hotel with an unknown man who absconded before her death was discovered.

Students of Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro have expressed remorse to the school management over the protest carried out earlier this week over poor results published.



A statement obtained from DSPZ radio and signed by Marvelous Okiti reveals that students of the institution were instigated into protest by "hired group of students from other institutions (paid, sent, informed and ready to hijack genuine grievances for political gains of their pay masters)", it read.


The Students Union Government of the institution already on top of the matter, has held several meetings with the management to remedy the situation even as it dismissed viral reports that a student of the institution was shot to death by security operatives.

A procession of Biafra protesters were halted and arrested by a combined team of the Nigeria Army and police in Akwa Ibom.


The group, in a statement signed by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, in Enugu yesterday, said that 122 of its members, including a three-year-old child, were arrested by the police and Department of State Services (DSS) officials during a peaceful gathering in the state.

Cambodian police have arrested three Nigerian men in Phnom Penh on suspicion of trafficking more than 20kg of crystal methamphetamine packed in 21 plastic bags.

Some Oro adherents, on Saturday, invaded a mosque in Idi-Iroko in the Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State and pelted the Imam and the congregation with stones.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the Muslims incurred the wrath of the traditionalists by coming out during the Oro festival to observe their prayers.

The Wakeelul Muslimeen of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta states, Sheikh Iskeel Lawal, said the incident happened during the observance of the afternoon (Suhr) prayer at the mosque.

While explaining the reason for the attack, Lawal said residents of the community had been warned by the Oro adherents not to go out during their festival on Saturday.

He said Muslims in the area first complied with the directive, but later came out to observe the afternoon prayer, which led to the attack on them by the Oro traditionalists inside the mosque.

Lawal stated, “The incident occurred around 1.18pm on Saturday when our Muslim brothers were observing the Suhr prayer at the Umar bin Khatab Mosque at Odan-Aje, behind the General Hospital, Idi-Iroko.

“The Oro adherents invaded the mosque and pelted the Imam and the congregation with stones, and chased them away. They later destroyed the property in the mosque.”

While warning against religious crisis in the state, the Islamic leader said, “We condemn the action of the Oro adherents and urge the government to intervene in the issue before it escalates.

“It is not in the 1999 Nigerian Constitution that no one, whether he is a Muslim or not, must not go out on a particular day or time because of the Oro festival.

“Everybody is free to practice what he wants; no one should impose his ideology on another person. The government must intervene before it becomes too late.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

He said the command had arrested some of the perpetrators.

When asked for the number of the suspects arrested, Oyeyemi promised to call our correspondent back, but had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

Describing the killing as poking fingers into the eyes of Yoruba people, National PRO of the OSF, Comrade Wilson Kayode in a statement made available to newsmen, condemned the murder as a spite to Yoruba land and unless the herdsmen appease the bereaved leader by providing one thousand cows as compensation, for the burial of his murdered daughter, OSF will mobilize members nationwide to protest.



The statement reads;


"It is noteworthy to at this time of grieve, console Pa Reuben Fasoranti, on the killing of his daughter after a short visit to him on Friday.
It grieves us that such misfortune will befall us at a time when the ability of the government to protect us is questionable.

"On several occasions, our association had passed a vote of no confidence on the security apparatus of the nation with regards to the never ending kidnappings and mass killings but now it has been brought to our doorstep.



"With a renewed call to action, OSF is urging the Yoruba nation to revert back to the traditional ways of self defence against internal and external attacks if the killers of Mrs Olakunrin do not provide 1000 cows for her funeral."
