9ja voice: as a middle beltan i knw it for sure that core north plus yorubas control Nigeria oil.
that is why subsidy protest was heavy in the north and west just to protect their investment.

anyway i pity the yorubas because we minority has seen clearly that they are equally behind all these evils core north does.
after 2015 election the west will regret all their moves now quote me.
You really Think a south south man will think of you first before he thinks of himself. By the way what has the so called middlebelt benefitted from a Goodluck presidency. If you want to be honest with yourself you will realise that the hausa-fulani has been more than generous to the middlebelter. IBB has 3 governors from Benue state as Governors(David Mark, Onoja and Chris Garuba) His closest pals were (Domkat Bali, Useni, Gen Garba etc). Gowon was head of state by the help of the North. Tell me how the Ibos or south south man has helped the middlebelt over any other tribe. In nigeria, people only look for allies to feather their own nest and its never for any common Good.
What we need is Good leadership from Visionary men and not all these tribal sentiments. Lets set aside all these who has what Oil wells and who doesnt and decide our collective destinies by electing Selfless Leaders. Nuff Said

Nairaland GeneralEight-year-old Boy Marries 61-year-old Woman After 'dead Ancestors Told Him To by kbdrim(op): 3:01pm On Mar 11, 2013
An eight-year-old schoolboy has married a 61-year-old woman because the ghost of his dead ancestor told him to.

Sanele Masilela tied the knot with Helen Shabangu, who is already married and a mother-of-five.

The boy, from Tshwane, South Africa, said he had been told by his dead ancestors to wed and his family, fearing divine retribution, forked out for a wedding.

They paid £500 for the bride and a further £1,000 for the big day, which was organised in just two months.

Eight-Year Old Sanele Masilela walked down the aisle with his 61-year-old bride Helen Shabangu at their wedding ceremony in Tshwane, South Africa
Ceremony: The schoolboy kissed his 61-year-old bride, who is already married and a mother of five. He said he had been told to tie the knot by his ancestors

Dressed in a bow tie and tiny silver suit, little Sanele, the youngest of five children, exchanged rings in front of 100 guests and even puckered up for a kiss.

It's already shocked the community but the family has defended the ceremony, saying it was just a ritual and not legally binding.

Sanele's 46-year-old mum, Patience Masilela said: 'This is the first time this has happened in the family.

'Sanele is named after his grandfather, who was never had a white wedding before he died so asked Sanele to get married. He chose Helen because he loves her.

'By doing this we made the ancestors happy. If we hadn't done what my son had asked then something bad would have happened in the family.

'I didn't have a problem with it because I know it's what the ancestors wanted and it would make them happy.'
With this ring: The boy's family say the wedding was simply a ritual and not recognised in law

The widow, who works at a recycling centre, added: 'I would say that this is not wrong.

'Sanele was fine and he was happy about the ceremony and it was what he wanted. He was happy to get married and very excited.'

Sanele and his bride did not sign a marriage certificate and do not have to live together. Both have gone back to their normal lives.

Sanele today said he hoped he would have a proper wedding to a woman his own age when he was older.

He added: 'I told my mother that I wanted to get married because I really did want to.
The big day: Mrs Shabangu is already married and has five children with Alfred, a builder

'I'm happy that I married Helen - but I will go to school and study hard.

'When I'm older I will marry a lady my own age.'

Despite being old enough to be his grandmother, bride Helen, whose children are aged between 37 and 27, was happy with the arrangement.

Helen, who also works at a recycling centre, said: 'I'm married and have five kids of my own, but I know that this is what the ancestors wanted - and now they are happy.

'It is a ritual. We are just playing now, but it is a sign that he will get married one day.'

Her husband of 30 years, Alfred, 65, said: 'My kids and I are happy.

'We don't have problems with it but some of the community members were shocked.'
The couple pose in traditional costume. The £1,500 cost of the wedding included £500 for the bride

How has the north more wells from the list given by Senator Enang and Akinosho
All these were Given during the Military Era. We have also heard ''rumours'' that Emeka Offor and orji Uzor Kalu all own Oil wells. Let us also know who were those given Oil wells under OBJ, Yaradua and GEJ
T Y DANJUMA is more of a middlebelter considering he is alwaiys in the forefront of middlebelt emancipation. For the sake of this argument. Many people would want to see him as a northerner which isn't true in the true sense of it

I just cant understand why we are tribalizing this issue. This is exactly what Senator Enang wanted Nigerians to believe. He mentioned the northerners
Danjuma
Mai Deribe
Ado Bayero
Saleh Jumbo
Akinosho mentioned the southerners
Folawiyo
Abiola
Adenuga
Udoji
Ibru
Igbinedion and Even Dan Etete(all Southerners)
From the list above I can see more southerners. Why cant the Federal Govt reel out the actual list
Here on nairaland, we would rather believe a politician but disbelieve A professional like Akinosho or a femi falana and insist that it is northerners responsible for all our problems. Until we understand that It is Nigeria's elite that is our problem whether Ibo, Yoruba or Hausa. We cant make progress. Im pretty sure Senator Enang hasnt been known for anything other than struggling for salary increase as his colleagues in the senate do. He is just being opportunistic and looking for relevance using tribal sentiments as he knows Nigerians dont think before reacting

Eziachi: Can someone, for the life of me give us the updated list? After all the long sermon about the one we now know is wrong or now outdated-can we see the one they think is correct, up to date and non misleading?
The point is senator Enang was just been mischievous with his statement knowing Nigerians are ever willing to swallow hook line and sinker anything that maligns the North
PoliticsForeigners Own 80% Of Oil Blocks Not Northerners - Femi Falana by kbdrim(op): 1:10am On Mar 11, 2013
Lagos lawyer, Femi Falana has described last week celebrated claim by Senator Ita Enang that 80 percent of Nigeria’s oil blocks is owned by Northerners as totally false and misleading. The lawyer in a statement released today and obtained by iReports-ng.com said majority of the nation’s oil blocks are owned by foreigners and foreign companies.

The statement reads in full:

“During the debate on the Petroleum Industry Bill last week on the floor of the Senate at Abuja the names of a few Nigerians to whom the Federal Government had allocated oil blocks were revealed. It was specifically alleged that 83 per cent of all oil blocks in the country are owned by northerners. Not unexpectedly, those who are won’t to complain of neglect and maginalisation of their geo-political zones have been demanding for equitable distribution of oil blocks among the comprador bourgeoisie of the various ethnic groups. Embarrassed by the disclosure and the diversionary furore it is generating the Arewa Consultative Forum has called for a public inquiry into the allegation that northerners are the largest beneficiaries of the oil block largesse in the country.

While I have never supported the policy of allocating the oil blocks owned exclusively by the Federal Government to selected individuals and foreign oil companies it is pertinent to point out that the list published by the media last week is totally outdated and grossly misleading. The list contained only the names of those who were allocated oil blocks under the defunct military junta. In other words, the list did not contain the names of the other traders who have been allocated oil blocks by the ruling party since 1999. Equally missing from the list are the names of multinational companies otherwise called “Oil majors” which control and manage the lion share of the oil and gas industry. For instance, I have a suit pending at the Federal High Court against the Ministry of Petroleum Resources over the renewal of the expired 40-year old licences of three oil blocks (which produce 580,000 barrels of crude oil per day) for Mobil Producing last year for the sum of $600 million notwithstanding that a Chinese oil company had offered to pay $5.8 billion for the same oil blocks !

Apart from Mobil there are about 17 other foreign oil companies which are the major key players in the oil industry while Nigerians are forced to operate in the marginal fields .The said foreign companies or Oil Majors own 80 % of the oil blocks and as such they are completely in charge of the oil and gas industry. They produce the oil and gas, and declare the figures they like. They smile to the banks daily while Nigerians fight over the crumbs from the Master’s Table. In spite of the indictment by the National Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (NEITI) some of the companies have continued to withhold billions of dollars from the Federation Account. The joint venture agreements between some oil producing countries and oil companies are in the ratio of 80/20 percent in favour of the owners of the oil. But in Nigeria it is 60/40 percent in favour of the Federal Government of whatever is declared by the oil companies. It is common knowledge that some of the foreign oil companies operating in Nigeria have, with the connivance of the Federal Government, been leasing oil blocks allocated to them to other persons or companies.

Incidentally, the disclosure in the Senate last week coincided with the death of President Hugo Rafael Chavez of Venezuela who nationalised the oil industry which enabled his government to generate enough revenue to fund a comprehensive welfare programme for the hitherto improverished people of the Latin American country. But the enomous commonwealth of the Nigerian people have been cornered by a few rent collectors and other members of the parasitic ruling class. A few of them who raked billions of dollars from the illegal sale of the oil blocks have openly confessed that they do not know what to do with the huge fund! Because such wealth has been privatised Nigeria cannot, like Venezuela, meet the eight Millenium Development Goals by 2015.

In view of the confusion caused by the partial information released by the Senate last week the Ministry of Petroleum Resources should, without any further delay, publish an up-to-date list of all local individuals and foreigners who have been allocated oil blocks by the Federal Government. After the publication the Goodluck Jonathan Administration should proceed to cancel all oil blocks allocated to a few interest groups and vest them in the Federal Government in line with section 44 of the Constitution. In other words the oil and gas should be nationalised in the interest of the Nigerian people. Instead of empowering either the President of the Republic or the Minister of Petroleum Resources to dole out oil blocks to serving ministers, party members, personal friends and business partners the National Assembly should ensure that all blocks are owned by the Federal Government in trust for the Nigerian people. This demand accords with section 16(1)(c ) of the Constitution which states that the State shall “manage and operate the major sectors of the economy”.

Foreign AffairsDonors Pledge $150,000 To HOMELESS MAN For Returning Diamond Engagement Ring! by kbdrim(op): 12:17am On Feb 27, 2013
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/billy-ray-harris--homeless-man-in-kansas-city--missouri--returns-diamond-engagement-ring-to-sarah-darling-164608860.html#IZA2dWp

KCTV 5 - Homeless: Billy Ray Harris's good deed has earned him over $150,000 (KCTV 5)
A homeless man has become the centre of a global fundraising campaign - after returning a diamond engagement ring to a bride-to-be who dropped it in his coffee cup.Sarah Darling lost her ring on the streets of Kansas City when she it unknowingly dropped it into a cup belonging to Billy Ray Harris.
She desperately dashed back to the scene the next day after realising it was missing, and was overjoyed when Harris returned the valuable jewellery straight back to her.
The feel-good story has touched so many people that an online fundraising page for homeless Harris has since pulled $150,000 in less than a fortnight.
The act of selflessness by Harris, who sleeps under a bridge and spends his days in a square in Kansas City, has since been described as a 'miracle' by Ms Darling's fiance, Bill Krejci.
Mr Krejci, who set up the online donations page himself, said the act of generosity 'makes you realise that there are good people out there'.
The donations, which on Tuesday afternoon stood at $151,000, are currently enough for Harris to get himself off the streets and buy a three-bedroom house in Kansas City.

Valuable: The diamond engagement ring which Harris selflessly returned (KCTV 5)
Harris told a local television station he 'had that little devil on my shoulder saying, "Keep the money",' but he decided against pawning the ring for cash.
When a distraught Ms Darling returned to the square hoping to retrieve the ring, she told Harris: "I don't know if you remember me, but I think I gave you something that's very precious."
Harris asked her, "Was it a ring?", before adding, "Yeah I have it, I kept it for you," and pulling it from a pocket.
Ms Darling and her fiance set up the fundraising page to thank Harris for returning the ring, hoping it would pull in $1,000.
Instead, over 6,000 pledges have flooded in from Asia, Europe and America, all wishing Harris well for his good deed.
Distraught: Sarah Darling was overjoyed when she recovered the ring (KCTV 5)
One donor left a message on the page saying: "An amazing man who deserves amazing things.. I hope things go well for you smiley You are a true inspiration around the world!!"
Another pledge, from Pat Gowen, read: "Thank you Mr. Harris for your honesty. You have restored my faith in people. God Bless you."
Harris himself said he didn't think he deserves all the attention he has been getting.
He told local television station KCTV: "What I actually feel is, "What is the world coming to when a person returns something that dosn't belong to him and all this happens?".'
He added: "My grandfather was a reverend. He raised me from the time I was six months old and, thank the good Lord, it's a blessing, but I do still have some character."
Harris said he may attempt to find somewhere to live in Texas, where he has family, but is currently staying with a friend.
In a statement on the Give Forward online page, Bill Krejci said after meeting Harris: "We talked about what he plans to do.
"He has a very solid plan and a very solid way of making it happen."

debomb: @ kbdrim: I beg to differ on your last statement

Every human's decision, lifestyle and to some extent character is largely influenced on what goes on in his immediate environs. Why do most rich ( not wealthy) naija's who acts like gods in Nigeria behave normal abroad? I wouldn't necessarily blame people here in naija but I do agree that materialism and show off is too unhealthy and needs a serious check.Naija's need to stop this " i better pass my neighbor mentality"

The day you start living for yourself not to impress others, make decisions which makes you happy not really on how you would be perceived by others, live your life owing no one but God with gratitude for life, parent and true friendship. That is when you start to really experience the joy of being a human. Of growing to a level of complete maturity. If on a particular day I feel like jumping on a bus or getting on keke marwa who gives a toss about what others would feel or say seeing me in one? I don't need your approval to live my life! I focus on increasing my moral value by being an honest and sincere individual.I don't need to acquire a jeep cos of some FAKE friends...then suffer to pay insurance or maintain the car!

He feels comfortable with a bicycle. His gf am sure can't be bothered either. There is nothing wrong with riding one and its sheer naivety to say such worthy exercise is condescending! if that is what he feels happy with, how does that affect anyone?. It's people like him we need in this world. People who controls money and not allow money control them and even own their life, their happiness and their future. Such people are men of integrity who will never be influenced by greed and selfishness that we see all around in this evil world.

Its true that only those who have an inferiority complex would want to show off their obscene amount of wealth in a lacklustre acquisition of things that are irrelevant ( an exception to this is allowed only for the royals and important dignitaries whose life is at stake)

my 2 cents.. naijas should start being wealthy not being rich.
My argument isn't on an individual's right to decisions and lifestyle choices. It is the ''general consensus'' from most comments who cant understand why he chooses his austere lifestyle. They cant fathom how you could have so much and yet be that ''disciplined''. As for your assertion that Nigerians change when they go abroad. I disagree..Go to a black Club in europe and you see that same tendency amongst Africans and we cant seem to see anything wrong with that in our society. If that happens in a white community, it would be frowned upon be most ''educated'' white folks.
That is why people like Bill Cosby have always had issues with the black community.

May I add that the story doesn't sound realistic to me however if we have our Tiv Friends on Nairaland. They should pls confirm or debunk this theory
FamilyReason Why Tiv Men Offer Their Wives To Their Guest? True Story Or Fable? by kbdrim(op): 3:20pm On Feb 26, 2013
REASON WHY TIV MEN OFFER THEIR WIVES TO THEIR GUEST by Chukwuemeka Ekenaka

The Tiv People of Benue State have one of the best cultural beliefs in
the World.
They regard strangers as gods, and in
some cases, protect their visitors with
their lives. The Tiv's kindness to strangers is Lengendary, but
unfortunately, this kindness was seen as weakness and taken for
granted

The "Gbango" yam of the Tivs is their
pride. The gbango yam is the sweetest
yam specie anywhere in the world. The yam has high glucose and fiber content.

The primary occupation of the Tiv People is farming and their
strengths are a mystery.

A Tiv man will cultivate 100hectares of
farmland with the help of his famiy, using primitive farm tools.
That's why in the olden days, a Tiv Man will marry up to 6wives, in
order to produce children that will help him in the farms. A Tiv Man
loves his wives and children, and also
protect them with his life...because his life and wealth lies in them.

Gbango yams gained lot of popularity
and there became influx of traders into the Tiv Land.....to buy and
transport the yams to other places in Nigeria.

The headquarters of production, and
also the highest concentration of the Tiv People, before the eventual
spread, was at Zaki-Biam.

Notable traders such as Umoru, Sako
and Okafor were among the first to
come to Zaki-Biam. Umoru was a magician and a trader who came from the
North, he had a bird who goes before him during journeys, to see
whether the area was less-dangerous....it was a "gossip bird".
What became the greatest ever fallacy in Nigeria, started when Umoru
came to Zaki-Biam to buy gbango yams.Umoru was received by Terkaa, the
man regarded as the "King of Yams" in Zaki-Biam. Terkaa had five wives
and 11children....the fifth wife, Torkwase, was newly married and had
no child. Umoru was to spend the night in Terkaa's home, which in the
morning, he would go and buy yams in the Market Square.

A Tiv Man builds houses for each of his wives, Round Huts or Thatch Houses.
Umoru was given pounded yam and
smoked fish that night, and stayed
outside with his bird. At 11pm that night, Terkaa instructed Torkwase
to make thewooden bed for Umoru to sleep......as Strangers were
allowed to sleep in the beds, while the home owner will either sleep
outside the room or on the floor of the room.

The males in Tiv Land, everynight,
worship the "gods of yams", they would leave by 12am and spend two
hours making sacrifices and incantations to the "gods"....it is said
that their strengths were gotten from these "gods"

Terkaa told Umoru to sleep in
Torkwase's Round hut(house), as she will prepare the bed for
him....because Torkwase had space as she's got no child.

When Terkaa and his children left to
adore and worship the "gods of yams",
Umoru went to Torkwase's room and
slept with her. Umoru thought Terkaa
offered his wife to him or Maybe Umoru used charms and trickery to
sleep with Torkwase.
For weeks, during his visits to Zaki-Ziam,
Umoru would have sex with Torkwase.
Torkwase never told her husband what
was happening, as she never got
attention from her husband(she lacked sex) and may have enjoyed having
sex with Umoru, because Umoru may have used "Burantashi" during sex
with her.

Umoru told Sako and Okafor, the other traders, about his "free gift"
from Terkaa and told them to try their luck......Sako and Okafor were
successful, undermining the Tiv Man's Kindness.

Umoru went to the North, and told themthe news of the Tiv Man's "kind
gesture"...with Sako and Okafor doing
the same.
Unknown to the Tiv People, lots of
traders flock to their lands to do
business in order to experience the "kind gesture".....unfortunately,
they were successful, as the Tiv Man married as many wives as
possible, but failed to meet their sexual demands.

The Tiv Men had no idea of what was
happening in their Lands.
On one of his numerous journeys to
identify groups of people who spoke the Tiv Language, the King of the
Tivs(Tor Tiv), stumbled on this development.
The Tiv People are believed to have
migrated from Congo to Nigeria, and they are scattered within the
North of Nigeria, from Benue to Plateau to Adamawa to Taraba State.
So the Tor Tiv's assignment was to
identify them and incorporate them
under one "Umbrella".
It was on this journey to one of the Local Governments in Plateau
State, that the Tor Tiv learnt that traders coming into his lands,
were sleeping with his women.

The King came home and summoned a meeting. Wives were called and they
confessed sleeping with those traders.
The Men were furious and after much
deliberations, resolutions were reached.
No man should sit close or touch another man's wife without
permission, and the husband is allowed to kill the defaulter.
They feel killing the traders who
perpetrated those shameful acts, will
send strong warnings to visitors who
wish to come to their lands......a decision that would turn out to haunt them.

Umoru's "gossip bird" had already told
him the plan on ground and he never
went to the Tiv Land again. His friends, Sako and Okafor weren't
lucky......as they were killed.

Terkaa was once again in the picture, as he would gradually evolve a
term known as the "Mad Farmer".
Terkaa used this opportunity to kill his
enemies, claiming they harrassed or
touched his wives.

Terkaa went about killing people and
claiming their Lands. Land is one of the most valued assets of the Tiv People.

Terkaa killed Terkimbi, a Medicine
graduate that was sponsored by the
Villagers to read Medicine in America.
Torkwase got pregnant and was having
problems delivering her baby....so
Terkimbi who just returned from
overseas, was called upon.
Terkaa came back from the farms, saw
Terkimbi assisting his wife in Labour,
didn't ask any question and struck
Terkimbi with his cutlass. Terkimbi fell
down and died.
The "gods" were angry and hardship was unleashed to the people.
Crops failed to grow, animals were dying.

A region that pride itself as the food
basket of the Nation, was importing
foods from neighbouring states.
A Lake in Cameroon was blamed for
emitting poisonous gases that killed the crops and
animals.....whereas, the "gods" were angry over the death of Terkimbi,
and decided to punish them.
The "gods" held back the rains.
Conditions got worse, people started
dying from Malnutrition and diseases.
The Tor Tiv sought the advice of the
Priest of the Land and was told to go
home and perfom some rites.
The "gods" had demanded that Terkaa
and his family be used for sacrifice.
The villagers did as the Priest advised,
and Terkaa and his family were
killed....and all his property was burnt.
Also the Tor Tiv found out that many
wives were not receiving adequate
attention from their husbands, so he
gave a directive that if any man can't
satisfy all his wives...that man should
marry fewer wives.

Also the the Tor Tiv ordered every Tiv
Man to build extra houses for
visitors.....and that killing any man that didn't sleep with your wife
is a serious crime, and the culprit will be banish.
Immediately the Villagers agreed to
these terms, heavy rains fell that day.
Everything came to normal, crops and
animals sprung to life. The Tiv Man's
pride was restored.

The divine kindness shown by the Tiv
People to strangers was threatened,
however, a Tiv Man still worship a
stranger till today.
That's why most Tiv Men married one
wife, they could satisfy sexually. And
that's why most Tiv homes have extra
rooms for stranger/visitors.
A Tiv Man loves his wife to the blood,
and I wonder why the fallacy that
stipulates that a Tiv Man offer his wife to strangers to have sex, was
allowed to move from generations to generations.

Umoru is said to have resided in one of the Northern States, a blind
man who rears goats.
Please, if anybody has psyched or
deceived you that a Tiv Man will give you his wife to have sex
with.....don't ever come to Benue State, because the "Mad Farmer"
still lives amongst us....and you may lose your life.
The End.
The Story doesnt sound real to me though

That is a big problem with the Black Race. Yet we wonder how we can ever make progress as a race. Look at Black American Music Videos. Its all about showing off Cars, Houses, Bling Blings and Chilling. Have a look at Black Sports personalities, it is still the same thing. Look at Black Preachers in the states or in UK or at home in Africa. It is about Private Jets, Cars and properties. Its almost like We are a cursed race. If all these sports stars who are paid millions of dollars in salary are rich. What do you think of the ownwers of the clubs they play for? There are wealthy folks but you dont hear of them. I think it is just a show of inferiority complex. If you really have serious money and are EDUCATED like the Bill Gates and Warren Buffets of these world, You would never be affected by what you drive instead they are more interested in what drives them.
I have seen Stinkingly wealthy Indians live very Pious lives. They still shop with the commoners and drive normal cars, eat normal healthy food. Recently Charlie Morgan(A ballboy at swansea) who was involved in a controversy in a Swansea vs Chelsea match was discovered to be the son of a millionaire and an heir to 42 miilion pounds and I wondered if a black Millionaire would allow his son to be a ball boy.
Our problems as a race has more to do with Our values and Orientation than anything else
I think the biggist Problem in our Society is that there is no difference between how an educated black man thinks and how an uneducated blackman thinks.
