thank you Prettiepearlz: Your result is okay, you maxed all except reading where an 8.0 would have given you maximum point in Language. You can use other experiences provided it’s eligible under express entry, it doesn’t have to be related with your current field as you need 3 years experience for your points to make sense but on a second thought, your current job will be 3 years by January so that’s not much of a problem and I think it would suffice.
The most important thing here is your education, a short course that can be evaluated positively by Wes like ACCA, BCS, CIMA, CIIN, CIPM etc is what you need to claim two or more certificates and boost your scores to 460s to 470s region. |

Prettiepearlz: Please list out your IELTS result according to LRSW. No one cares about your overall band score as it doesn’t determine if your IELTS is superb. How many years work experience? Your Bsc only is also a problem. You need at least a two or more certificate to boost your education point. I started my present job in January 2020, but I have previous work experience in an area that is unrelated to my current field. When you say one or more certificates what exactly do you mean?

Lekiboboe: Just like technix said
PG. Cert in Data/Business Analytics will be a good progression for you, owing to the fact that you might have done some Agriculture Economics courses with quantitative components that has to do with Data Analysis.
To further solidify your profile, do some Online Courses on Business/Data Analytics (free or paid) get the certificate and add it to your resume, then apply for a PG. Cert in Data Analytics/Business Analytics program at a Canadian College for 2023 intake (whether Winter, Spring or Fall)
See the link below for the programs

Thank you very much cochtrane: The Google course is a good start. You just need to keep learning and to improve your skills. If you have PR through Express entry, then it may be a better idea to do a diploma in Canada that earns you an advantage towards applying for a masters in the same University. This will be overall cheaper for you and if your final destination is Canada, Canadian recruiters will be more familiar with your University. If you don't have PR, then I think it may be better to go for a UK masters over a Canadian certificate as it may come to the same cost.
At the end of the day, your objective is to simply advance your knowledge, which if you do well will earn you a job easily. Also look at your personal situation and see what is overall more comfortable for you. |

cochtrane: If I were you, I'll start with the question: do you want to educate yourself or do you just want a job? If all you want is a job, it may take a while, but you just need to be persistent. You could start firstly with networking on LinkedIn, so that you are more visible to recruiters when they search. Then you may want to focus on certifications like the CBAP, if business analytics is more what you are interested in. Then go hard with looking for a job by submitting hundreds of applications. There are a lot of openings for business analytics and even more on data analyst roles. It may take a while, but you will eventually get a job, provided you get those certifications. You could also search for preliminary certifications issued by Microsoft and IBM, etc. in data analysis. These will bolster your applications and may help you secure a job.
I say this because you shouldn't expect to find studying in Canada easy. It is often much more difficult than Nigerian students anticipate. Most Nigerian students are not equipped well enough in Nigeria to study abroad. It can often get very frustrating and tedious. You have to be sure you want to do this.
If you are convinced and you really want to educate yourself, then you could consider going back to school. Starting with a certificate could be a good thing and you could put that on your CV while applying for a masters degree. Many of the universities offer these kinds of co-op or certificate programs which you can apply for and easily get into. These are however not as difficult as the masters program. It may be easier to get into a business analytics masters than it is to get into a data science masters. The latter is more competitive. You may also just consider masters in computer science or statistics which cover pretty much the same syllabus, though on a more fundamental level. If you have PR, it won't be a waste of money as you'll be paying a fraction of international student cost. And in some schools like University of Calgary, I think, getting the diploma in data science may improve your chances of getting admitted into their masters program. There are a few schools like that.
Now, you may also want to keep in mind that while having a masters degree may improve your chances of getting a job, it doesn't automatically guarantee you a job. In fact, you may be surprised that some of your friends who don't do with masters end up with good jobs. You just have to ask yourself why you are taking the masters in the first place. Thank you for your advice I want to get a relevant education that will translate into a very paying job. I also want to travel out for better opportunities. I'm currently doing the Googles data analytics course and before September I would be through with it. However, I also want to position myself in a place that has more opportunities. And I feel that a masters degree will give me the most advantage. Even though I really want to travel to Canada, I also know that I can get admission to study Master's in UK. So I'm kinda confused? Will this diploma be a waste of funds as opposed to just doing a masters in data analytics in UK. Thank you once again. |

Thanks for the advise. Do you know long I can stay in Canada after the diploma while seeking for admission to study a Master's degree. Also, considering that this is a day time program, will I be able to worth before the co-op? technix: Hi,
Just to add to what Lekiboboe has said, why don't you consider a graduate diploma /certificate instead (since you have a quantitative background)?
That shows career progression and makes it easier to convince the VO even if you don't have work experience in data/business analytics. Also, since your long-term aim is master's, a graduate certificate will help. |

OK. Thank you Lekiboboe: I will suggest you await a response from the gurus and other members on this diploma path you wanna follow cos as a bachelors degree holder, going for a Diploma is a wrong Academic Progression and Visa Officers scrutinize that alot. |

Do you have work experience in Data Analytics , Business Analytics? |
Travel › Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by Kbrule: 12:34pm On May 06, 2022 |
Lekiboboe: The chances of you being accepted to a Masters in Data Analytics is very slim cos you don't have the Academic background and that is the major admission requirement.
Do you have work experience in Data Analytics , Business Analytics? I've checked some universities and I don't meet their entry requirements for a Masters in that area. So my question is, is a Diploma in Data Analytics a waste of time and resources? I was hoping that a diploma will if not anything help me to get a better shot at a Masters when I'm done. Please what would you think. |
