Aubameyang deal

Date published: Thursday 6th August 2020 4:21

Arsenal are on the verge of extending Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract by a further two years to keep him at the club until 2023, according to a report.

Speculation has mounted in recent months over the Gabon striker‘s future. The 31-year-old has entered the final year of his current deal, heightening such uncertainty.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said previously it was the club’s top priority to tie Aubameyang down. The striker netted 29 goals this season, scoring in the semi-finals and final of their triumphant FA Cup campaign.

An initial report claimed Arsenal’s initial offer would include a £250,000 weekly salary, £50,000 more than his current wage.

Now, The Telegraph‘s latest report says the offer will likely be worth more than that and include “lucrative bonuses”.

What’s more, talks have advanced rapidly and Arsenal are now preparing their final proposal to the striker. The club have reached that stage after agreeing on several “verbal promises” with the player.

Moreover, aside from the pay rise, Arsenal’s decision to continue first-team development has buoyed Aubameyang’s mindset.

That decision was crucial given Arsenal have proposed 55 redundancies. The lost jobs will mostly come from the club’s administrative and commercial departments.

Sanderson urges Arsenal to keep Aubameyang

Indeed, the ability to convince the forward of a sense of direction was reportedly a key hurdle for Arsenal after their eighth-placed Premier League finish this term.

The new contract will cover the remainder of Aubameyang’s deal and provide two further years.

The Telegraph adds that the only hurdle facing Arsenal is a protest from Aubameyang’s entourage. His representatives and lawyers are yet to check the final proposal and could find differences to what they discussed.

However, Arsenal are confident that if there are no further hitches, Aubameyang will sign up to the extension.

Premier League clubs vote against five substitute proposal for next season

The Premier League has voted against the proposal of making five substitutes from next season and will revert to the usual three.

Clubs voted 11-9 against the proposals to stick with five substitutes for the 2020/21 season after the rule was brought in during Project Restart to help clubs get through the crowded fixture schedule.

There was also a vote - which ended 10v10 - to extend match day squads to 20 players but that will also revert to seven players on the bench for next season.

The Premier League meeting held this morning needed a majority of 14-6 to get any proposal voted through after law makers IFAB made the five subs rule available for all leagues next season.

The Premier League has voted against five subs

It is understood the big clubs were in favour of five subs but the smaller teams against it because they feel it gave their opponents too much of an advantage as they have bigger and more strength in depth.

The five subs was brought in post-lockdown and clubs like Manchester City and Manchester United were able to bring on superstar substitutes to win a game.

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson revealed last month that they originally voted in favour of five subs - it was brought in with a majority of 16-4 - but would vote against it this time.

It is believed all three promoted clubs - Leeds, West Brom and Fulham - voted against five subs.

Certain managers have bemoaned the amount of subs claiming it favours the top clubs.

That was expected while the clubs were given details on the new-look VAR for next season when FIFA will take overall control and that should give the green light for referees to check pitch side monitors.

A discussion was also started on the possibility of curtailment for next season to at least have a plan in place should there be a second spike though that will not be agreed on before the next meeting.

Mirror Sport also revealed discussions between the clubs to try and offer some financial support to EFL clubs while also discussing the fixture schedule and dates for the Carabao Cup.

Who is Gabriel Magalhaes? Meet the towering Lille defender and reported transfer target for Arsenal, Everton and Man Utd

A Brazilian youth international with telescopic legs, Gabriel has impressed in the Ligue 1 over the last couple of seasons

By Will Magee

August 6, 2020 10:22 am

He may only have made his breakthrough for Lille last year, but Gabriel Magalhaes has done enough to attract interest from clubs across Europe.

A long-term target for Everton, reports in the Italian press suggested he was on the verge of joining Napoli in June.

Lille teammate Victor Osimhen has already moved to the Stadio San Paolo, with The Guardian reporting that the Serie A side have paid an initial fee of €60m for him.

Whether Napoli can afford to sign Gabriel as well remains to be seen. Though they still appear to be in the running, Arsenal and Manchester United have also been heavily linked this week.

Both Arsenal and United are in the market for defensive reinforcements this summer and, at 22, Gabriel fits the right profile.

A Brazilian youth international who has worked hard for his opportunity at Lille, he is a towering presence at around 6’3 and has considerable potential.

Having made 24 appearances in Ligue 1 this term, Gabriel helped to guide Lille to fourth in the table before the campaign was cut short in response to the coronavirus crisis.

Here’s some background on how he made a name for himself at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Gabriel Magalhaes profile

Age: 22

Nationality: Brazilian

Previous clubs: Avai, Troyes (loan), Dinamo Zagreb (loan)

What could Gabriel bring to the Premier League?

A strong, aerially dominant centre-back, Gabriel is also something of a specialist tackler. In possession of two telescopic legs, he is an impressive ball-winner and proactive in defence.

Having moved to Lille in 2017 from Brazilian second-tier side Avai, where he had previously made only 21 appearances, he took a while to break into the first team and was loaned to Troyes and Dinamo Zagreb without getting much game time at either.

On his return to France ahead of the 2018-19 season, Gabriel started to impose himself. Though he only made two appearances for Lille across the first half of the campaign, he got his first Ligue 1 start against Guingamp in February and hasn’t looked back since.

First-choice alongside Jose Fonte, his development has been accelerated this term. He got his first taste of Champions League football in September and, while Lille finished rock bottom of their group, he caught the eye.

Gabriel featured twice against Chelsea with both games ending in narrow 2-1 defeats, which may have served as a scouting exercise for other Premier League clubs. While, like most defenders his age, he is far from the finished product, his rapid rise over the last couple of seasons suggests that he could be a smart signing and, with a reported valuation somewhere between £25m and £30m, he should appreciate in value in the years to come.

EDOUARD WOULD TRANSFORM OUR ATTACK: Analysis on the exciting rumoured Arsenal Target

Rohan Jivan • RohansBlog, • Transfer Gossip

Complete centre forward

To shine in the centre forward role, there are more attributes that managers look for in a player in today’s game. Goal scoring is certainly fundamental but hold up play, and the ability to link midfield and attack is just as important. Eventually, I believe Arteta wants to play a 4-3-3 system, with two attacking midfielders drifting in between the lines. The centre forward has to be able to drop deep and provide a link.

Firmino does it for Liverpool and Martial does the same for United. Aguero also provides a similar influence in this aspect, as his low centre of gravity allows him to occupy players and bring others in to play.

This is why Aubameyang isn’t playing through the middle. Despite Mikel saying how highly he values Lacazette, there are rumours surfacing that he could be sold since he is moving towards his final two years of his contract.

So let’s assume he leaves. My ideal replacement is Odsonne Edouard who has been linked with Arsenal, Leicester and Leeds it seems.

Clinical finisher

Obviously, the clear standout aspect in Edouard’s game is his ruthless nature in front of goal. Statistically, in terms of goals/assists, his productivity and influence is apparent.

2019-2020 Scottish premier league statistics

Appearances: 27

Minutes: 2097

Goals: 21

Assists: 9

G/A every 70 minutes

His output is what has drawn attention across many clubs within Europe. Compared to Lacazette, he is far more productive and lethal. There definitely is the argument that the level of the Scottish league is significantly lower, compared to the major leagues across Europe.

But there is no denying that his finishing is of the highest order and if he did move to Arsenal, the supply lines and quality of players surrounding him would be greater which therefore would provide him with the opportunity of more goal scoring opportunities.

Possesses all the ingredients to be a complete centre forward

His all round play fits the criteria Arteta looks for in a centre forward. Standing at 6ft 2in, he competes well in aerial duels and his ability to hold the ball, link midfield and attack is underrated.

What I like about him is his unpredictable style of play. He can easily drop in between the lines, hold off players with his physical presence and bring others around him into the game.

But what he also possesses is a quick burst of pace, and is very effective and dangerous in making runs in behind, whether that’s centrally or through the channels.

This is one of the differences between Lacazette and him. Arsenal’s current No.9 has showed to be extremely effective with his hold up play, but in terms of his off the ball movement, he is a lot more predictable compared to Edouard.

Greater comparisons can be drawn from statistics shown below. The numbers clearly show that he has the potential to be an upgrade.

Odsonne Edouard

Goals per 90: 0.90

Assists per 90: 0.39

Shots on target percentage: 45%

Shots per 90: 4.29

Shots on target per 90: 1.93

Goals per shot on target: 0.47

Alexandre Lacazette

Goals per 90: 0.48

Assists per 90: 0.19

Shots on target percentage: 49.1%

Shots per 90: 2.55

Shots on target per 90: 1.25

Goals per shot on target: 0.38

What I really like about him is that his first instinct is always to get a shot away, whenever an opportunity arises. As shown above, during the 2019/20 season, he averages 4.29 shots per 90 which would see him rank high amongst the strikers in the Premier League.

Furthermore, his ability as a creator is another asset to his game. In terms of key passes, he averages 1.8 per game. His 9 assists in the 2019/20 Scottish Premiership season provides further evidence that goal scoring is only one of many aspects he possesses to his game.

He’s also very good with the ball at his feet, and has the ability to go past players with his strong dribbling ability. Statistically, he averages 7 dribbles per 90, which shows that he is very capable as a ball carrier.

Final thoughts

Speaking to Celtic fans, they believe that he has all the attributes to provide consistency at a top European club. His composure/calmness when he has an opportunity to make the difference, whether thats through goals or assists, for someone still so young is impressive.

Excellent in tight spaces along and with possessing good awareness of his surroundings. The new SPL season has commenced and it didn’t take long for Edouard to make an impact.

He bagged a hat trick in his first appearance of the new season. His first goal epitomises the role needed from your centre forward in todays game. He drops in between the lines and in a pocket of space to receive the ball. He then lays it of to the player out wide on the left.

The notable difference to Lacazette is the next phase. His sharpness and quick burst of pace, along with his desire to make the run around the CB, enabled him to be on the end of a tap in.

I don’t see this enough from Lacazette. The build up play from our French number 9 is quality, but the next phase is what has been lacking in his game on a consistent basis.

Still only 22 years old and I believe a club like Arsenal could be the next step in his career. Under Arteta, his qualities and attributes can be further refined.

Previous rumours stated that £40M could be enough to acquire his services.

Lacazette is now 29 and is moving towards the last two years of his contract. His value will start to decline significantly so I would look to move him on this summer.

Juventus are said to be keen on him and if the opportunity arises that we can bring Edouard in, then I would be more than happy to do this deal.

He provides us with more productivity along with possessing similar attributes to Lacazette in terms of hold up play. Front three of Pepe, Edouard and Aubameyang would certainly be exciting to me.

Arsenal have officially made an offer for Willian as they look to sign the forward from Chelsea.

The 31-year-old is out of contract at Stamford Bridge this summer and has been offered a three-year deal at the Emirates.

According to Sky Sports, the offer from Arsenal is far superior to the terms offered by Barcelona and Inter Milan.

Chelsea have refused to offer the former Shakhtar Donetsk player more than two years, who made 47 appearances this season for the Blues.

Good morning, Gooners!

It appears there's one more hurdle before Willian can complete his move across London – and he's shaped like Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The current Chelsea winger, 32 on Saturday, is close to signing a three-year contract with the FA Cup winners worth £130,000 a week.

However, first the £180,000-a-week Mkhitaryan must be shifted from the wage bill and he is keen to remain at Roma where he has been on loan.

It appears done, though, as a leaked PES 2021 clip shows Willian in an Arsenal shirt.

Another target, Jack Grealish, is rumoured to be on the verge of signing a new £100,000-a-week contract at Aston Villa.

Former Celtic striker Harald Brattbakk believes a £40m offer for current hitman Odsonne Edouard will be hard for the Scottish champions to refuse.

Brattbakk believes his value could rise further if someone doesn't act quickly given the rate he scores at, while current striker Pierre-Emerick Aubamyang is being out sold by former Celt Kieran Tierney in shirt sales.

But on a more brighter note, what do we need him for?
That's the big question. what do we need him for?

But I guess Arteta probably need him for a 433 since he wants to dispose off Lacazette which would then pave way for Aubameyang to take the center forward position with willian on the left and Pepe to the right

I would be happy to see Coutinho and Most importantly Thomas Partey sporting the red and white jersey next season.

As regards Willian I just hope our management use the fact that he wants to remain in London tobnegotiate a deal favorable to us financially. We shouldn't give him some damn expensive wage because he seem to be the desperate one in this case.

I know that Willian's agent is good at negotiating bumper pay for his clients but we shouldn't be paying Willian a cut-throat salary.

If Willian's deal should come thru it will surely alter development of youngsters like Nelson and Co. They would surely have to go on loan or get sold outrightly
Well said and I hope we don't offer Willian more than £150,000 per week for the 3 years deal he so much desired which Arsenal is willing to offer him since he currently earn £120,000 per week at Chelsea

Arsenal in talks to sign attacking duo as Arteta aims to seal ambitious triple swoop

by

 Gooner Mac

August 4, 2020

Arsenal are plotting an ambitious triple swoop to sign Philippe Coutinho, Thomas Partey and Willian as Mikel Arteta looks to rebuild his squad this summer, according toThe Times.

The Gunners ended a turbulent campaign with silverware after beating Chelsea in the FA Cup final on Saturday and the victory at Wembley also ensured Arsenal would be playing in the Europa League next season.

Arteta is now expected to have more money available as he looks to reshape his squad this summer and The Times claims the Arsenal coach is planning at least three experienced signings to fit into his new-look 4-3-3 system next year.

The newspaper says Arsenal are hoping to sign Coutinho as Arteta looks to address a lack of creativity in the squad. The Brazilian is set to leave Barcelona after failing to secure a permanent move to Bayern Munich following an initial loan this season.

Coutinho could now be available on another short-term deal or Arsenal may look to finance a permanent transfer if enough money can be generated from the sale of players such as Matteo Guendouzi, Mesut Ozil and Lucas Torreira.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reported last week that Arsenal are in pole position to sign Coutinho after chief Raul Sanllehi held extensive talks with the attackers agent, Kai Joorabchian, so it appears a deal is on the cards.

The Times is one of several outlets reporting that Arsenal are also after Willian after he rejected Chelsea’s latest contract offer. The Brazilian winger is available on a free transfer after running down his contract and is also represented by Joorabchian.

The Guardian says Arsenal are in talks with Willian’s representatives about a move across London and journalist Daniel Harris suggests a deal is close to completion so it looks like the 31-year-old could be heading to the Emirates.

If Guendouzi and Torreira leave then Arsenal will certainly have to bring in another central midfielder this summer and The Times claims Arteta wants to sign Partey from Atletico Madrid.

The 27-year-old has impressed under Diego Simeone but with Atletico demanding the full value of his £45m [source: La Razon] release clause, Arsenal will need to bring-in a significant amount of money if they want to fund their transfer plans.

The Gunners are desperate to tie Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang down to a new deal and if the Gabon hitman does commit his future to the club, then Arsenal may look to cash-in on Alexandre Lacazette to generate added funds for the transfer kitty.

It’s going to be a busy summer at Arsenal but I personally think it would be superb business if the club were able to sign Coutinho, Willian and Partey. If Arteta could also land another top centre-back, then Arsenal’s squad would look strong heading into next season.

Mikel Arteta is prepared to sell nine Arsenal players in a bid to raise transfer funds, reports say.

The Arsenal boss had planned a major rebuild of his squad this summer but the club’s finances have taken a serious hit during the coronavirus pandemic.

Arteta must sell to go after his top targets and the Daily Mail claim the head coach has earmarked nine players he would be willing to let go this summer.

Hector Bellerin and Alexandre Lacazette headline the long list of potential departures with Sokratis, Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Sead Kolasinac, Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding also in the shop window.
