MIKEL ARTETA has recovered from Corona virus:
Mikel Arteta has a very clear message for each of us: please stay at home to help limit the effects of coronavirus.

Our head coach has now recovered from the virus, but says it remains absolutely crucial for everyone across the world to play their part.

"We are living in a unique situation, so I think all of us are trying to react to the situation that is coming on a daily basis and trying our best to overcome the situation," Arteta told Arsenal Player.

"First of all I would like to send a message to all the people who have lost their loved ones, those who are suffering in hospitals, having difficult moments and are sick - we have a massive gratitude to everyone who is involved in healthcare, in hospitals, people in services, people trying to provide food, transportation, everything that is so relevant to us.

"And please to everybody [in the UK], we are a little bit behind other countries, for example Spain, where I know the situation they are living at the moment, and while we are having the opportunity a little bit to minimise the risk, I encourage everybody please to be responsible and stay at home as much as possible.

"That is all we can do from our position, we don’t have the ability to help others in other circumstances, so please at least stay at home and do what is required.

"We have to try to help the NHS as much as possible and we have to give the opportunity to the elderly people who needs this more than anybody else to get the treatment they require. We have to slow the process down and the virus down, so please stay at home."

Arsenal fans go wild for Grealish

Mikel Arteta has been told to splash the cash and make a move for Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.

The Villa skipper is one of the most in-demand players in English football, after a stunning top flight season. The 24-year-old has netted seven times and created a further six for his teammates, the most goal contributions of any top flight, English midfielder.

That has meant his name has been constantly linked with a Villa Park exit, with a whole host of the game's biggest names credited with an interest.

A club statement read: "Our London Colney training centre has been closed after head coach Mikel Arteta received a positive COVID-19 result this evening.

"Arsenal personnel who had recent close contact with Mikel will now self-isolate in line with Government health guidelines.

"We expect this to be a significant number of people from Colney, including the full first-team squad and coaching staff, as well as a smaller number of people from our Hale End Academy which we have also temporarily closed as a precaution.

"We expect those who did not have close contact with Mikel to return to work in the coming days. In the meantime our Colney and Hale End training centres will undergo a deep clean and our other club sites are operating as normal."

Managing director Vinai Venkatesham said: "The health of our people and the wider public is our priority and that is where our focus is.

"Our thoughts are with Mikel who is disappointed but in good spirits. We are in active dialogue with all the relevant people to manage this situation appropriately, and we look forward to getting back to training and playing as soon as medical advice allows."

Head of football Raul Sanllehi added: "Mikel and the full first-team squad, players and staff, will be fully supported, and we look forward to getting back to training and playing as soon as medical advice allows. Obviously Mikel’s full recovery is the priority now for us all.

"We will work with Public Health England on the next steps in regard to our facilities and staff, and with the Premier League, Football Association and relevant clubs around our forthcoming matches in the Premier League and Emirates FA Cup.

"It is clear we will not be able to play some fixtures on their currently scheduled dates. We will update supporters who have tickets for forthcoming games with more information as soon as possible.

"We are now working to trace any other people who have had recent close contact with Mikel. We will let them know what has happened and they should follow the NHS guidance which is likely to recommend self-isolation."

Arsenal have confirmed that their Premier League match against Brighton this weekend has been postponed.

What the Premier League have said about coronavirus after Arteta and Hudson-Odoi test positive

The Premier League is holding an emergency meeting on Friday morning and the fixtures schedule is expected to be suspended as a result of the coronavirus

There are widespread calls for the Premier League to cancel matches in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

La Liga in Spain and Serie A in Italy have already taken the decision to suspend their calendars for the next few weeks, while the MLS in America has called a halt to their games for 30 days.

No such decision has been made in England as yet, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson admitting on Thursday that the government were "considering" banning large public events.

However, the calls to suspend the season have grown in intensity since Thursday evening after there were two confirmed positive cases of the COVID-19 strain in the Premier League.

The Premier League released a 45-word statement following the news of Arteta and Hudson-Odoi's positive tests.

It read: "In light of Arsenal’s announcement tonight confirming that their first-team coach Mikel Arteta has tested positive for COVID-19, the Premier League will convene an emergency club meeting on Friday morning regarding future fixtures.

Just to clarify, this is the official statement from Manchester City, not Arsenal.
Arsenal insist that no-one has shown any symptoms and will get the 14 day all clear on Thursday but are not making them take the coronavirus test.

The club also believe that as the virus often takes between five and seven days to show symptoms the likelihood is that Marinakis did not have the virus when he attended the game at the Emirates.

Arsenal quickly became aware on Tuesday of the implications and potential knock-on effects so took a club decision to request the game to be postponed with special permission from the Premier League and support from Manchester City .

Coronavirus: No Arsenal players or staff to be tested despite Man City postponement

No Arsenal players or staff will be tested for coronavirus after the postponement of Wednesday's Premier League game against Manchester City.

The match was cancelled after Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis said he had contracted the virus.

Marinakis attended Olympiakos' Europa League tie at Arsenal on 27 February.

The BBC understands fewer than five Arsenal players are in self-isolation, having been in contact with Marinakis in the tunnel after that match.

How coronavirus has affected sporting events around the world

Some Gunners staff members are also self-isolating because they sat close to Marinakis, who also owns Championship club Nottingham Forest, for a prolonged period.

The players' 14-day isolation period expires on Thursday, and their Premier League trip to Brighton on Saturday is due to go ahead as planned. The unaffected players trained as normal on Tuesday.

Forest and Olympiakos have confirmed that all of their players and staff have tested negative for the virus.

Six people with the virus have died in the UK, where there has been a total of 382 cases.

According to government advice, people who have come into contact with somebody who might be infected are not considered cases and will only be tested if they also become unwell.

They will be asked to self-isolate at home for 14 days from the last time they had contact with the confirmed case.

Evangelos Marinakis was at Emirates Stadium on 27 February watching Olympiakos beat Arsenal
There were 12 days between Olympiakos' match against Arsenal and Marinakis' announcement.

Arsenal played twice in that time, while Marinakis was present at the City Ground for Forest's Championship game against Millwall on Friday.

Here is a timeline of events so far:

Marinakis was at Emirates Stadium for Arsenal's Europa League last-32 second leg against Olympiakos on 27 February.

The Gunners played League One Portsmouth in the FA Cup on 2 March.

Marinakis attended Forest's Championship match against Millwall at the City Ground on 6 March.

Arsenal played West Ham in the Premier League on 7 March.

Portsmouth played Peterborough in League One on 7 March and Fleetwood on 10 March.

Marinakis confirmed he had tested positive for coronavirus on 10 March.

Wolves play Olympiakos in the Europa League behind closed doors on Thursday after their request to have the tie postponed was rejected by Uefa.

Arsenal are due to play Brighton on Saturday while Nottingham Forest travel to Sheffield Wednesday, Millwall host Derby and Portsmouth face Accrington.
West Ham are scheduled to play Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday.

How clubs and sporting bodies have responded

The Premier League says there are no plans to postpone any other matches and that "all necessary measures are being taken", while the English Football League is working with Forest to "fully ascertain the set of circumstances that existed when Mr Marinakis visited the club" before deciding what measures to take - if any.

The Professional Footballers' Association said it was speaking to the relevant authorities concerned, including Uefa, and had urged players to follow medical advice from their clubs and the UK government.

A number of the clubs involved have also responded:

Nottingham Forest said they were "seeking advice from medical professionals and the relevant governing bodies to ensure the correct measures are taken".

Millwall have said "senior club representatives who came into contact with Mr Marinakis have begun a period of self isolation".

Portsmouth and Peterborough are planning for their weekend matches as normal while continuing to follow "government guidelines".

Brighton said their game against Arsenal this Saturday "remains scheduled to go ahead as planned, in line with government advice, and following consultation with the Premier League and medical advisors".

West Ham say their game against Wolves is also scheduled to go ahead as planned
