An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Rivers, Mr Tonye Cole, said he would unseat the present government in the state in 2019. Cole, who is aspiring to succeed Gov. Nyesom Wike, if given the ticket of his party, said that he would tackle economic and security challenges which the present administration had failed to do. He told newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, after submitting his nomination form for the party’s primaries that he would attract foreign direct investment into the state. According to him, Rivers has the capacity to attract investors if conducive business environment is created. Cole, therefore, said that he would use his experience and connection in business world to actualize the dream of improving on the economic status of the state, if given the opportunity. He also said that wealth distribution at the grassroots was a major objective of his aspiration, adding that he would ensure that rural people were lifted out of poverty. “Wealth distribution among the grass root people is extremely vital. “I want to make sure that everybody in Rivers at the grassroots, who have been down, who has been impoverished, who does not have peace and security, are taken care of. “From an industry perspective, I have been operating at the global level; I travel a lot, I have worked with a lot of people and people know me for doing business with passion. “We believe that we can attract investment and secure investment in Rivers. “Rule of law will be protected and they would be able to generate employment for the people of the state,” he said. On security, Cole said that he would engage with the people for them to understand the negative impact of insecurity and crime on the lives and their communities. According to him, the long term outcome of insecurity is that poverty continues to increase. “Security is a relationship thing as well; it has to deal with people because people who perpetrate crime and bring insecurity are human beings like you and me. “One of the things that we are going to do is to engage with them wholly to make them understand what the outcome is as it affects them, not just their families but as it affects their communities.”

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the refusal of President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the amended Electoral Act is part of the plot to rig the 2019 elections. In an interview at the Government House Port Harcourt, Governor Wike stated that the plot by the APC Federal Government is basically to write results against the wishes of Nigerians. He said: “Why has the President not signed the electoral Act? What is the fear? What do you mean by mistakes? Oh my God what is a mistake? Errors you didn’t see by one month’s time? Errors for the first time, the second time, the third time. Does it not tell Nigerians these people are not prepared for election? ” All they are prepared is to write the results and let Heaven fall. Most of them who have left PDP to APC told me that, My Brother, look I can confidently tell you that these people are not prepared for the election. All they want to do is write the results, let heaven fall.” Governor Wike noted the APC Federal Government and the security agencies will not succeed in rigging the elections in Rivers State. He said: “In my State? It won’t happen. I know they will kill a lot of people. I can tell you, they will kill a lot of us. No problem, if that is the sacrifice we will make. ” Governor Wike explained that intelligence at the disposal of the Rivers State Government indicate that indicted SARs Commander, Akin Fakorede and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Stephen Hasso feature prominently in the rigging plot of the APC Federal Government in the state. He said: “They are planning for Rivers State as I speak. Let me tell you. They are promoting my Commissioner of Police to Assistant Inspector General of Police, they are promoting the Deputy Commissioner of Police who was just made a Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operation) to be Acting Commissioner of Police and the SARS man who took Rivers State Government to Court, who has perpetrated rigging of election even by INEC report, they are going to make him the man in charge of Operations just for the purpose of 2019 elections. “Akin Fakorede, to be made the Head of Operations of the State Police Command, then Stephen Hasso who is the Deputy Commissioner of Police will be made the Acting Commissioner of Police and the current Commissioner of Police will be appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police for the purpose of 2019 election and they think that we don’t know.” The governor said that the International Community is under obligation to take proactive action against officials of the APC Federal Government who destroy the foundation of democracy and the rule of law. He called for the revocation of their visas. “If it were where things are done rightly, they should revoke all the visas of those in Government who are opposed to democratic rule, principles, rule of law. Let me tell you whether you like it or not, this government is bent on eliminating the key opposition”. He stated that the electoral criminality plotted by the APC Federal Government was exhibited during the cancelled Port Harcourt State Constituency Three Election where security agencies and APC thugs were unleashed on the constituents. The governor said: “Look at the Bye election in Port Harcourt Constituency three comprising eight wards, 142 polling units within the same area. It is a ring road like this; it will not take you thirty minutes to cover them. The Commissioner of Police as I speak to you since after the election has not seen me to explain to me why all the atrocities were perpetrated, snatching electoral materials, and beating INEC officials. “I am not happy with INEC for one reason, Yes I am happy with them for one way that they stood up but then, this is the same Police, the same SARS that you indicted in the 2016/2017 re-run election and what has happened?” Governor Wike noted that the APC Federal Government plots to use security agencies to promote mass violence across Rivers State on the day of the governorship election in 2019, so that it will be postponed for them to have time to invade the state with hundreds of thousands of security personnel for rigging purposes. “First of all, as far as 2019 election is concerned , there will be no election. The Security Agencies will help them to show that there is so much crisis in the entire Local Governments, shooting everywhere and then they will postpone the election. When they postpone the election, then they will now bring down all their Security Agencies to the Rivers election” Governor Wike further explained the modalities for the planned rigging by the APC Federal Government. “We know, we have people inside the system who also working with them who also let us know these are their plans they are setting and it has been happening. Port Harcourt showed it, I told my people don’t do anything. “Allow them to show their hands and they did by coming with criminals and SARS wearing their uniforms. SARS protected them to cart away materials. INEC REC from Akwa Ibom , not Rivers State INEC, from Akwa Ibom, One of the 3 RECs that were sent here said, He saw, He witnessed, He couldn’t believe it. That at this our time, Security Agencies will lead people to cart away materials. So for 2019,it is to make sure no election take place in the first instance. “As I speak to you, they will shoot everywhere and INEC would say, No, there will be no election. We cannot handle it that is the strategy for 2019. Tell the people, tell the public, tell Mr President. That they will make sure that there is so much violence in Rivers State so that elections will be postponed and then when elections are postponed, other elections in other sides will take place then they will now move down all the Security Men to Rivers State. ” Governor Wike berated the APC for selecting a murder suspect as one of their factional chairmen in Rivers State and ordering security agencies to protect him. He said: “A man who is facing multiple murder trials, the court said, he must be arrested for murder, ordered the Commissioner of Police to arrest him. They say, they can’t find the man but the man is the one who will come out and say, he’s contesting for the Chairman of the APC? What a shame to this Country, what a shame to the Security Agency. They should bury their heads in shame. “If my Father was a Police man, I will tell my Father, withdraw as a Policeman, it is a shame. A man facing multiple trials, the Court ordered that he should be arrested. The Police said that they cannot find Him, is the man who contested for APC election. He is the man who led what happened in PHALGA constituency 3, 18th of August, 2018.”

A former Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, King Theophilus Princewill, has stated that the co-founder of Sahara Group, Pastor Tonye Cole, is needed to give leadership in the Niger Delta state. Princewill, who is also the Amanyanabo of Kalabari, spoke yesterday in his palace at Buguma, the headquarters of Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers state, while receiving Cole, the endorsed governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers for the 2019 election. Cole, in a long convoy of vehicles, with his teeming supporters and well-wishers who defied heavy rain, was earlier received by his kinsmen in Jack Compound in Abonnema-Kalabari, the headquarters of Akuku-Toru LGA, with his people, led by a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Adolphus Karibi-Whyte, wishing him well, while stating that they were very proud of him. The APC’s governorship aspirant then proceeded to the palace of the Amanyanabo of Abonnema, King Disrael Bob-Manuel, who along with members of his council of chiefs, happily received Cole, a Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). Cole was accompanied by Rivers Chairman of APC, Ojukaye Flag-Amachree; ex-governorship candidate, Prince Tonye Princewill; a former member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Dawari George; and ex-Rivers Commissioner for Women Affairs, Joeba West; among many other eminent personalities. King Princewill said: “I am interested in the unity of Kalabari people. We should give Tonye Cole the support that he needs to be governor. He deserves it. He has immensely contributed to the development of Rivers State and Nigeria. Just by the mention of Tonye Cole for governorship, the whole of Rivers State is vibrating. “Instead of having many governorship aspirants from Kalabari, we should unite, work as a team and support Tonye Cole. If we are not divided, we will succeed. I am happy that a Kalabari man is coming to give leadership to Rivers State. “I am pleading with Kalabari people to ensure 100 per cent support for Tonye Cole. Let our votes be for Tonye Cole. If that is done, we will win. United we stand, divided we fall. God being with us, we will achieve the purpose of having Tonye Cole as Rivers State governor in 2019.” In his remarks, the governorship aspirant said he was in Kalabari land for the blessings of the monarchs and his kinsmen, stressing that the task of providing quality leadership in Rivers could not be done as a divided house, but in unity. Cole also stated that courage was needed to face the governorship battle and have victory, while calling on Rivers people to hold themselves as one, thereby ensuring peace, security and prosperity. …Describes the adoption of the Indirect Primaries by the Rivers APC as a masterstroke and the death knell to this devious plot The recent perpetual injunction granted by an Abuja High Court, affirming the Ojukaye Flag-Amachree as the undisputed chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state has been described as the end of the conspiracy to stall the party’s progress. A chieftain of the APC in the state, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, who noted this in a statement he signed and circulated in Port Harcourt on Monday, also thanked God for putting the enemies of the party and those of the leader of the party in the South-South, Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, to shame in Rivers state. According to the party chieftain, plans were afoot by the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, and Senator Magnus Abe to create crisis for the APC in the state so that it would be difficult for the party to put itself together, put up a strong candidate, through whom the party can dislodge Wike from the Brick House next year. “Governor Nyesom Wike knowing that his time as Governor of Rivers State is up collaborated with some elements within Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress to plot for the decimation and dismantling of APC so that he has an essay sail back to the Brick House come 2019”, he said. “This plot that resulted to the formation or rather setting up of an illegal chapter of APC in Rivers State addressed as Magnus Abe chapter knowing very well that APC has a chapter well constituted after duly constituted Congress that brought up the authentic State Chapter with Ojukaye Amachree as State Chairman. “The plot which will cause Governor Wike to be elected unopposed by 2019 while paving way for Senator Magnus Abe to take over the reins of governance of Rivers State come 2023. “With an Abuja High Court 14 presided over by His Lordship, Hon. Justice A. O. Musa ruling on Tuesday granted an Order of Perpetual Injunction restraining the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the National Chairman, His Excellency (Comrade) Adams Oshiomhole (1st and 2nd Defendants) from ‘tampering with the mandates of the elected Officials/Delegates elected at the 1st Defendant’s Ward, Local Government and State Congresses in Rivers State on May 19, 20 and 21, 2018 respectively, either by nullifying, removing or in any way refusing to give effect to the outcome of the said congresses or by purporting to conduct another congress in respect of Rivers State.” have rendered Wike and Abe’s plot useless and worthless. “With this affirmation by a competent court of jurisdiction it becomes imperative to formally declare the Abe’s chapter of APC in Rivers State not only as illegal but assemblage of law breakers that must be dismantled as a matter of urgency before they hatch another devious plot to make Rivers State a laughing stock”, the statement said. Eze commended and congratulated Ojukaye Amachree and his Team for not only reviving the true spirit of APC but positioning it as the party to beat come 2019. For a very long time in the politics of Rivers State, Wike for the first time is at his wit end and confused on how to handle the twist that Ojukaye have brought to bear in the politics of Rivers State. Eze congratulated the leadership of the Rivers State APC for adopting the indirect primaries in electing its candidates for the 2019 general elections. “Apart from saving cost, this strategy will save the party from the devious plot by Wike and Abe to flood the State with PDP elements from Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa States to vote in Abe and his cohorts during the primaries to the detriment of the genuine party members”. The adoption of the indirect primaries is truly a masterstroke and death knell to this devious and wicked plot to deny the Rivers State chapter of APC credible representation during the 2019 general elections, he said. Eze counsels his good friend, Prince Peter Odike who is being used as a scapegoat to act as an illegal Chairman of a none existing political structure which may lead him to have problems with the security agencies. Eze finally reiterated that, “With three Senators in our kitty and with an international and well respected figure like Pastor Tonye Cole coming in to rescue Rivers State from the shackles of backwardness, the days of Wike as Governor of Rivers state are truly numbered. To the people of Rivers State, we need to celebrate and thank God for saving the State from the devious plot that would have caused the State more years of backwardness”, he said

Governorship Aspirant of the All Progressive Congress in Rivers State Senator Magnus Abe has Dismissed Reports that he Purchased the Governorship and Senatorial Forms of the All Progressive Congress. Abe also cautioned a Chieftain of the Party Prince Tonye Princewill to conduct himself in a Royal Manner over his comments on Facebook. “I hear Tonye Princewill wrote on Facebook that I bought both governorship and Senatorial nomination forms. That is not correct. Tonye is a younger person to me, so I won’t respond to him. My only advice to Tonye is that as a Prince, he is expected to talk Priestley. “I am not a person that says something in the morning but do another in the night. I have told Rivers people that I will contest Governor and that is the only form I have bought” “I don’t want to be like Andrew who told Etche people he was not going to contest Senate again that it is the turn of Etche people, only for him to turn around to buy form for Senate” “I want to be like Hon Mourice Pronen who kept his promise not to contest the khana/Gokana Federal constituency seat after his two term”

Senator Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president, says Nigerians are looking up to a “rebranded” Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rescue them after a “harrowing experience” in the last three years. Uche Anichukwu, media aide to deputy senate president, quoted Ekweremadu as saying this to the opposition party members ahead of the ward congress. The senator charged PDP to use the exercise to showcase to Nigerians a “thoroughly rebranded” party ready to lead the charge to rescue the country. “As the processes for the election of our flag bearers for the various offices in the 2019 elections begin, let me remind party faithful that in view of the harrowing experience of citizens and the nation’s dwindling fortunes in all respects in the last three years, Nigerians look up to our rebranded political platform to lead the charge to rescue Nigeria and give citizens new hope and lease of life,” the statement read. “The ward congresses, therefore, represent our first step to reclaiming power and we must put our best foot forward. We must demonstrate the highest democratic ethos to reassure Nigerians that their renewed trust in us is rightly reposed. “We must not only ensure that justice is done to all in a free, fair, credible, and peaceful process and atmosphere, we must also ensure that the party faithful, especially the aspirants and their supporters, see the processes to be free, fair, credible, peaceful, and just.”

Tonye Cole, CEO of Sahara Energy and Rivers State Governorship Aspirant There is tremendous hunger in Rivers State for an end to the bellicose and toxic politics that have seized the state since 1999. Media headlines about the state are frequently about political assassinations, beheadings and inconclusive elections due to widespread violence. As Nigeria’s oil and gas metropolis, Rivers State suffers unique consequences when our social and political spaces are dominated by swaggering thugs and other merchants of violence baying for blood in the streets. As a former Commissioner for Information in the State I know, I have heard business leaders silently agonize about how to conduct business in a once-peaceful state now trapped in a circle of violence and strategic dysfunction. As businesses quietly close shop in the State at an unprecedented rate, a whole generation of young people are unable for find work or learn new skills, freezing them in economic and social stasis. Our leaders are responding to crime in Rivers State by donating guns, gunboats and bayonets to the police and making solemn promises of a football academy that would turn us all into soccer stars. But where that fails, a multi-billion naira Ecumenical Centre has already been built to cast out the incubus of unemployment from our State, through frantic prayers. Our leaders have forgotten the well-known nexus between joblessness and criminality. They lack an expansionary vision and have diminished the serious task of governance to simply paving a few kilometres of asphalt. They have replaced public policy with bombast and appear unprepared for the important task of building a knowledge economy to replace a fading oil and gas era in Rivers State. This is why the news last week that Mr Tonye Cole will be seeking the office of governor of Rivers State in 2019 should interest us. Tonye Cole has been profiled by Forbes magazine as a business titan. He attended Harvard, and serves in the UN’s Expert Advisory Council. His efforts to confront global challenges through the World Economic Forum are well known. As the co-founder of Sahara Group, Tonye has created life-changing jobs for hundreds of young men and women. He is consulted by presidents of countries whose economies are failing. Tonye is an inspiration and a mentor to millions of young people across the continent. Those who question the biological bona fides of such an illustrious son of Rivers State are driving politics to the edge of lunacy, and may have to reassure us of their psychiatric fitness. In the age of artificial intelligence and block chain technology in schools, we must reject the abomination that public office in the Rivers State is the preserve of knife-wielding alcoholics and hectoring despots. We must encourage all other citizens with stellar credentials and commitment to uplift our people to seek any office, on any political platform, in Rivers State. We need leaders who can tap into the genius of our youth and create opportunities for them, not those who seek to mobilize our young people into a raging platoon of sycophants. Finally, those who see Tonye Cole through the primal keyhole of riverine and upland politics are the offspring of a false and rejected dichotomy. He is a son of Rivers State revealed at a moment of epiphany, in a hopeful effort to reclaim and fulfil the promise of Rivers State. Austin Tam-George, Ph.D., is a former commissioner for information and communication for Rivers State. The opinions expressed in this article are solely those of the author.

The governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, has declared that the party cannot adopt indirect primaries to elect its candidates in the state. Abe made the declaration when he appeared on a live programme of the African Independent Television (AIT), which was monitored in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. He said: “Rivers State is one of those states where we cannot have indirect primaries. The entire structure of the party in the state is embroiled in legal controversy with about four or five Court cases. So if you want to do indirect primaries, which particular list of delegates are you going to use and which particular congress?” Abe, who is also the senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, stated that indirect primaries breed corruption through financial inducement of delegates. The senator said: “They say where you stand on an issue depends on where you sit. What you call indirect primaries is a situation where known party members meet in a place to elect candidates”. “These known party members are invariably part of a structure that is already organized. So when people have control of such structure, the entire exercise is predetermined because they already know who they are going to elect”. “You have to understand that life is dynamic and part of what we promised Nigerians is that we were going to bring change into the country and make it better. Part of the challenge people have with indirect primaries is like I said the outcome is predetermined”. “Secondly, it is very vulnerable to financial inducement because the delegates are known and you can’t target a particular number of people as those that you need to service in order to get your nomination”. “So, this has led over the years to a vast increase in corruption in terms of financial inducement for delegates. In bringing our message for change in Nigeria, there is, therefore, every need for us to look at these things and improve the processes as the country grows older and our democracy matures”. “No matter the argument one may have or may not have, I believe that as far as Nigerian democracy is concerned, the days of indirect primaries are fast drawing to a close.”

An Abuja High Court 14 presided over by His Lordship, Hon. Justice A. O. Musa on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 granted an Order of Perpetual Injunction restraining the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the National Chairman, His Excellency (Comrade) Adams Oshiomhole (1st and 2nd Defendants) from ‘tampering with the mandates of the elected Officials/Delegates elected at the 1st Defendant’s Ward, Local Government and State Congresses in Rivers State on May 19, 20 and 21, 2018 respectively, either by nullifying, removing or in any way refusing to give effect to the outcome of the said congresses or by purporting to conduct another congress in respect of Rivers State.” The Court also affirmed the validity of the congresses which took place May 19, 20 and 21 and subsequently culminated in the election of Hon. Ojukaye Flag-Amachree State Executive Committee with such congresses having been conducted in compliance with the constitution of the APC (1st Defendant). It therefore ordered that both 1st and 2nd Defendants (APC and its National Chairman) are bound to give effect to the outcome of the said congresses. It would be recalled that following the controversy generated by the May 2018 Ward, Local Government and State Congresses of the APC in Rivers State, the State Chairman of the Party, Hon. Ojukaye Flag-Amachree and his Exco approached the Abuja High Court to seek injunction against the APC, Its National Chairman, NWC/NEC from tampering with the Rivers State Exco of the Party until all pending matters regarding the congresses are resolved.
