President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Rivers State for the inauguration of the new international terminal at the Port Harcourt International Airport.
The President arrived at the state capital, Port Harcourt around 12:20 pm for the event which had top government functionaries including the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, in attendance.
The project is one of four built with a $500 million loan taken from China in 2013. Nigeria provided $100 million as counterpart funding for the projects.
The projects were expected to be delivered in 18 months but the new terminal is being commisioned five years after.

senatordave1: SO MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING: BE NOT DECEIVED I received unprecedented number of calls today about the Supreme Court decision in the Case bordering on the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State Ward, Local Government and State Congresses that took place in May 2018. Some of the callers expressed so much anxiety, that I feared for their health. In fact, I had to say on phone for 53minutes with an elderly caller to calm her down and to avoid health crisis. It is sure indication that Rivers People are already comfortable with ARCH. TONYE COLE’s CANDIDATURE.
In order to douse the anxieties, I have decided to put up this explanation. In doing so and to make you feel better at home with the facts, I shall try to avoid disputations by limiting my personal opinions and contentious facts.
THE FACTS AND THE EFFECT OF THE DECISION OF THE SUPREME COURT TODAY.
1. APC issued its guidelines for WARD, LGA and STATE Congresses for 5th, 12th and 19th May, 2018 respectively, across the Country.
2. Some APC members (about 18 persons) alleged that they paid for Nomination forms, but were excluded form the Congress. Aggrieved by the “alleged exclusion”, they: (1) wrote a petition to the NWC of the Party; while the NWC was yet to reach a decision on the matter; (2) instituted an action before the Rivers State High Court.
3. On the 11th May, 2018, the Rivers State High Court (Chinwendu J) GRANTED AN INTERLOCUTORY ORDER OF INDUCTION restraining the APC Rivers State from holding any subsequent Congress Election based on the Ward Congress of 5th May 2018.
4. On the 12th May, 2018, APC Rivers State held its congress election as scheduled.
5. On the 18th May, 2018, the NWC of the APC, wrote through the Office of the National Legal Adviser to convey its decision. It decided, in the interest of justice, to cancel and indeed canceled the said Ward and LGA congresses election held on the 5th and 12th May 2018; and accordingly rescheduled new Ward, LGA and State congresses for 19th, 20th and 21st May 2018 respectively.
6. On the said dates, the Congresses held as scheduled, but the 18 disgruntled members refused to participate. They continued with their suit before the High Court of Rivers State.
7. APC Rivers State appealed to the Court of Appeal, challenging the Order of Interlocutory Injunction made by the High Court on the 11th May, 2018. APC filed along side its Appeal a Motion on Notice praying for Stay of Execution of that Order and for Stay of Proceedings at the High Court of Rivers State.
8. The Court of Appeal granted an Order Staying Execution of the Interlocutory Order made by the High Court, however refused to grant Stay of Proceedings at the High Court.
9. The 18 persons, aggrieved by the Order for Stay of Execution made by the Court of Appeal, decided to file an appeal to the Supreme Court against the Order for Stay of Execution.
10. Meanwhile, the proceedings at the High Court of Rivers State continued and the High Court gave judgement and made a perpetual order of injunction in October 2018. The judgement is currently subject matter of an appeal before the Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt Division.
11. Today, 22nd October 2018, the appeal against the Order of Stay of the Interlocutory Injunction made by the Court of Appeal came up before the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court considered the Appeal and set aside the Order for Stay of Execution, even though it observed that the appeal had been overtaken by events: the High Court of Rivers State having delivered its final Judgement in the case.
12. The Supreme Court rejected the plea of the 18 aggrieved persons to hear issues bordering on the Appeals before the Court of Appeal, and advised party to explore the Court of Appeal.
From the above facts and circumstances, the following are apparent:
1. There are 3 pending Appeals before the Court of Appeal: (1) Appeal against the Order of Interlocutory Injunction restraining APC from holding congresses, (2) Appeal against the Order of Mandatory Injunction Setting Aside the Election of the Party’s Executive Members in Rivers State, and (3) Appeal against the Final Judgement of the High Court of Rivers State. Appeal on 1 & 2 seem to have been overtaken by the final judgement, which is the subject matter of appeal (3).
2. The Appeal decided today at the Supreme Court HAD NOTHING WHATSOEVER to with the CANDIDATURE of ARCH. TONYE COLE.
The effect so far is that the APC’s nomination of Arch. Tonye COLE remains undisturbed. APC members are kindly advised to go about the business of winning votes for our CandidateS.
APC !!! PROGRESS !!! MAKE WE DO AM!!

The Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, would like to state, for the avoidance of doubt, that the appeal filed at the Supreme Court by Ibrahim Umar & 22 ors of which the ruling was given today, 3 issues were canvassed before the Supreme Court one of which was that the Appeal Court did not act correctly by granting a stay of execution on the interlocutory orders of the State High Court. The Supreme Court agreed with them. However, the Supreme Court did not make pronouncements on the other issues since the State High Court had already given final judgment on them, an action that has left the present development a mere academic exercise.
The Supreme Court only granted the appeal in parts and did not make any consequential orders as that can only be subject matter at the Appeal Court when the appeal hearing of the State High Court judgment commences.
According to Counsel to APC, “The Supreme Court today allowed the appellant appeal which was against the stay of Order of Injunction of 11/05/2018.The Court said the said order should not have been stayed. The Supreme Court made no orders except to set aside the Court of Appeal order. That clears the way for hearing of the main appeal at Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt against the judgment of the High Court. Their prayer that Supreme Court should hear the pending appeal at Court of Appeal was rejected .The appeal is to be heard and determined by Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt.”
It is important for APC faithful to ignore the raging propaganda by detractors that the Supreme Court set aside congresses and primaries of the party in Rivers State. That is a big lie from the pit of hell.
As things stand, all pending appeals at the Appeal Court are proceeding apace with some ongoing today. Furthermore, appeal and stay of the final judgment of the State High Court given on the 10th of October are being perfected and hearing will commence thereafter.
We call on all APC members to remain steadfast and refuse to be distracted as ultimate victory is assured. Those claiming victory and dancing in the streets are doing so either out of ignorance or out to deceive others. |
