Eventually, I decided to buy Tecno L8 after serious considerations and scrutiny of both the phone and its battery-capacity contemporaries (Gionee M5, Tecno L5, Infinix Hot Note 2 et al), i headed to phone shop to make my purchase.

Getting there, i was a bit surprised when the attendant told me they only have L8 Plus. At first I thought it was the oversabi attitude of most attendants who in an attempt to sell, attribute irrelevant names to product. I was wrong. The attendant clarified that while L8 has just one 1GB RAM, L8 Plus boasts of a 2GB RAM memory. I was elated. I have seen and read about how frustrating 1GB RAM phones can be.

For brevity's sake, I'd like to state that L8 Plus is everything like it forerunner, L8. The only difference lies in the RAM.
However, for the benefit of those that mightn't have known, here are the basics about the phone:

Camera:
While for an 'unrepentant' picture snapper and Selfie taker, this might be a no no, the 8mp back with flash, 2mp front w/o flash camera will trump a lot of other phones within it cadre. It HDR option gives it a significant boost. I am contented with the quality.

Memory:
The 16GB ROM, 2 GB RAM is a seamless delight when i multitask between apps and play heavy games. No delay, no hang.

Battery:
Ehn ehn! While some might believe the price, coupled with the RAM is the unique selling point of the phone, I think the 5050mAh battery life is major perk of the phone. For one, it was what bought me over. However, I think the 5050mAh battery didn't live up to expectation.My take is that a battery with such gargantuan capacity should atleast last 3 days without heavy usage while heavy use of the phone should still give like 2 days of battery life. L8 Plus does not. A full charge without heavy usage gives you a max of 38 hrs or thereabout while you can only like 24/26 hrs for heavy usage. After surfing the net with 3G network and watching two episodes of GOT, and 60 mins of Now You See Me 2, there was only a considerable 20+% drop in my battery level. Suffice to say, i had my data on while watching the movies.

Operating System:

Prior to this time, i knew nothing about HiOs, never even knew Tecno had gone the way of Apple to create its own custom O.s- HiOs
The HiOs comes with some interesting perks like the Micro intelligence, Hi Theme, Hi Manager, App freeze, Ultra Mode, Wallpaper Switch et al( nothing entirely new that you won't get from the settings option of other android devices, except probably for the beautiful themes and Wallpapers). The HiOs really takes the lead in terms of graphics and User interface.

My L8 Plus is just 4 days old, thus, the discovery phase is still ongoing but as it stands i will peg the phone at 80/100 on all fronts except the battery. For the battery I'll give 70

PPS: My feel about the battery is tentative and still under study. I just watched a 1hr35mins movie with HD @only 7% deduction of battery, which I feel is pretty fair.

Recently my phone started giving me alerts about low storage.. I had to
uninstall one of my favorite games (Asphalt and left only FIFA 14. I
must say it really hurt me removing the game but I had no other
option. After some days the low on space error came up again. I
decided to go through all the hidden folders on my phone.
Every file Manager has an option to show hidden files but if yours
doesn't. Download ES file Explorer.



The folder that takes up space on your phone is probably the
.thumbnails folder. Let me explain why the folder takes space.
Whenever you watch a video on your phone, the phone converts each
clip of the video to tiny image thumbnails as its playing,as time goes
on the clips accumulate to a very huge size. Imagine playing a 2 hour
video and each clip is converted to tiny thumbnails. Even clips from
deleted videos still remain in the folder.
When I deleted the folder, 1.5gb of space was freed up. The folder can
be found in the DCIM folder

When you are on your Airtel 2G network, click on any file or media you'd like to download, make sure the download has started counting, then proceed and pause the download.

Go back to your network settings and switch your network to 3G. Go to your paused downloads and resume them, the downloading will continue with the 3G speed.

Tick the box next to Portable Wi-Fi hotspot.

Now on another PC or wifi enabled phone or laptop, select your
handset's network from the list of Wi-Fi
connections available

Click connect and then you'll need to enter
the password if it is protected for the Wi-Fi hotspot. Once
connected, you'll be able to surf the web
using the handset's 3G or 4G connection to.
your heart's content. basically the phone with data must have its mobile hotspot turned on while the other phone must have its WiFi turned on.

All this wahala, just to browse.

So far the speed has been throttled to 30-70kbs, and using ucbrowser would corrupt you files. Honestly it requires a lot of patience. Anyone who has experienced a higher bandwidth should let us know.

The speed is not throttled when using uc mini handler.

Click save

Choose USA as location

Then go to more options and untick connect via http

Finally go back to the app menu and start the VPN. It should connect within 5 minutes.

I have downloaded over 2gb with this trick and my data is still remaining 1.9gb.

you can make it download with 3g by using sypon shield.

I guess this ish is sim selective.. Cause i'av been trying it since morn.. But all to no avail. Are you on any sub.? And are you using this same tweak at the moment.

try using sypon shield. if it fails to connect, download uc mini handler and input those settings.

Download Psiphon pro lite, Pronet or Netify VPN (anyone can work)
Configure it as follows:

proxy type: Real host

Proxy server: video.ng.airtellive.com

Real proxy type: default

Click save

Choose USA as location

Then go to more options and untick connect via http

Finally switch on your data to 3g(auto), then go back to the app menu and start the VPN. It should connect within 20 seconds.

Good evening bro please, I downloaded a video recently with my phone's uc browser, but when I transfered it to my laptop, it shows me that it is an MS Dos file and wasn't able to watch it with vlc/windows media player. I can only use uc Brower player to watch it on my phone. Do you have any idea on how I can get it to play on laptop.

go to your file manager, locate the file and rename it with the file extension ending with dot mp4.

You need a better phone. VLC doesn't reduce the quality of videos one bit. I have full 1080p videos of 4gb and above that I watch with VLC on my phone and tablet and there's no frame drop. MX player is also a solid media player but ever since it started having some audio codec issues I stopped using it. VLC is da BOMB.

Because when playing hd videos with it offline, it always reduces the quality. I prefer mx player.

This is how to use it on 3g:

1. Connect your data
2. Once it connects with your data on, switch immediately
to 3G network.
Start browsing with full speed.
