Aminattah: Hello ma'am. 1. My husband will be applying for citizenship next year. We (kids and I), through family reunion, are joining him in Germany by the end of the year, hopefully. Will his status ( assuming he is granted citizenship) cover us? That is, can he include us in the application and we become citizens alongside him? Or we need to "hustle" our own citizenship? 2. A different scenario, please. To apply for PR in Germany, do I need to present proof of German language? If yes, what level? Thank you. Hi, from what I know about german citizenship, the citizenship only applies to the applicant. However, if he is eligible next year, he can add your kids. The chances of them getting one alongside him is high. However, you might wait for 3 years after your migration to Germany to be eligible. |

Aminattah: Hello. My hubby is trying to register our marriage in his city in Germany. The city registry told him to submit some documents e.g our wedding certificate, passport data page etc and to fill the verification forms (same type of form that lagos embassy issues for reunion verification). He was also told that he will pay verification fee and they will contact lagos embassy to send a lawyer for the verification here in Nigeria. I understand this is the same verification process I would undergo after my visa interview later in the year. Someone once posted here that registering his marriage in his German city made the visa process faster for his wife and kids in Nigeria, that's why we want to try it. My question is; 1. Will I be made to pay N150k for another verification or I can simply present the evidence/certificate of verification from my husband's city (it should be ready before our visa appointment date)? 2. Does anyone have an idea of how much it will cost him (the city office has not told him the fee yet. His appointment is next month)? We need to be financially ready. 3. Has anyone done this? Care to share? Thank you. You can let them know that the verification has been done in Nigeria. You can ask them to contact German Botschaft in Nigeria or the Ausländerbehörde in your city. |

blessingayokunl: @Keinbock, While it is true that you do not owe him any explanation, I think it is important to give accurate information since you've decided to share your experience to 'motivate' others. According to German Naturalisation act, Section 9, Paragraph 1, you can only get your Citizenship in THREE years ONLY if you got married to a German Citizen, otherwise the other earliest period you would have gotten it would be 6 years which will still be on Special grounds ( Which means the fact that your husband is German already gave you about 90% chance in your case).. The only other conditions you had to fulfill to get it according to Section 10 of the Naturalisation law is do have German B1 Language proficiency, pass naturalisation test, have living space (which your husband already provided to even bring you in the first place), means of sustenance is guaranteed without recourse to Public funds ( this means you're working or you have a source to provide your needs (your husband again)). While having your German C2 and University Certificates are great achievements, it didn't have any effect on the duration of acquiring your Citizenship in your case. You would still get it in 3 years even if you did not have secondary school certificate. Please don't underplay the effect he had on your citizenship acquisition timeline. If he is not white, he must gone through a lot (many of which he didn't tell you to even settle down properly here). Please give him the kudos he deserves.
German Naturalisation Act can be found here https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/englisch_stag/englisch_stag.html To counter your argument. You will not get your german citizenship after 3 yeras if you dont have the above mentioned ( see my earlier post). Let me cite 2 examples from people i know personally: 1. A Nigerian woman, married to a Nigerian man who naturalised many years ago. They have 3 children , who are all german citizens ranging from 5-2 years. she has lived here for 6 years. She applied in sept. 2020 . Unfortunately, she was denied the citizenship, on the grounds that she isn't gainfully employed. She works in the Pflegedienst (parttime). 2. A friend who is also married to a german citizen(She moved to Germany in 2017). She has a master studium, but currently unemployed due to corona. Her application was sent in on jan.2021. Unfortunately, her application was denied because she is unemployed. I don't want to undermine anybody's effort, but likewise, I don't want to give anyone false hope. Marrying a german citizen , gives you 40 percent chance of getting one. How do i know this? My Sachbearbeiter told me that, when I asked him. |

4evaurs: Guy easy o! You got German Citizenship in three years, how? Talk se u marry?
No law in the German immigrations act allows a Non EU member become citizen in 3 years (except by marriage)
Even as a professional with C1 language proficiency you need at least 5 years to acquire citizenship.
Before you come for me kindly quote the section of the Citizen's Act that bestowed you with citizenship in three years.
Regards. First of all, SIT DOWN LET ME SCHOOL YOU: First of all, I am a girl. I married a German citizen, which made me qualify for the citizenship. The thing you might not know, is that you can apply for the citizenship after 2yrs and 6 months if you meet the following criteria : 1. You don't have any criminal record 2. You are married to a German citizen 3. You have a job that pays you a minimum of 1490 AFTER TAX. 4. you have been gainfully employed for more than a year. 5. At the time of your application, you are still married to the said German citizen. Research and research but if you want me to school you the more, then let me know. ( I might not have the time though) I know you will also doubt it, if I tell you that I published a book in German a year after moving to Germany (it's available on amazon, by the way). And your brain go scatter if I tell you how much I earn at 31. |

nuel80: She doesn’t owe you that much explanation. People’s case differs, she tried to even explain this far, there are even possibilities that she could get German citizenship before her husband. The key thing there was translating her university documents and yes it was accepted by the German government as it meets a certain criteria for them and secondly she got her language certificate up to C1. Common, she gave it a whole lot and she got it. Some of us would have preferred taking up mini jobs and believing the 1,400 they earn is a jackpot. Such people ends up spending a longer time before qualifying for neutralization. Thank you. |

seunoni34: Interesting and inspiring. So you didn't get permanent residency before citizenship? I thought it was a requirement No, I didn't apply for it, as it would be a waste of money. The Einbürgerungamt sent my a checklist of what they needed after I asked for an appointment. They specified that a valid Aufenthaltstitel was acceptable.. |

MolecularSponge: Your story is very inspiring but I think there is something else you are not telling us. You got your citizenship in like 3 years. This amazing. Is your spouse a German or an EU citizen? If your spouse is a German citizen of course it will be easier First of all, I do NOT owe you any further explanation, but for the benefit of the others, who might not know, that they can achieve the same, even under 3 years, here's how I did it: 1. My spouse is a German citizen ( this will give you like 40% chance of getting the citizenship. It will make you qualify after 3 years or even after 2yrs and 6 months. but that's it. 2. Learn German at least to B2 level. I learnt German till the C2 level. 3. Send your university certificates to Bonn to be certified. 4. Get a job. The requirement is to have a job that pays a minimum of 1490 after taxes. 5. Make sure you've been gainfully employed for more than a year. I might not be available all the time for questions, but I'll check in from time to time. |

Bigby007: Hello House,
My family and I presently work and live in Nigeria and I just got a job contract). The travel agency supporting my and family's relocation will process fast track. Please I have a few questions with regards to the documents needed for appointment: 1. Can someone please share with me template for 'Motivation letter' 2. For spouse application, they requested affidavit deposed by father stating no marriage prior - how do we go about this. 3. They also requested marriage and family photos - we only have soft copies of these. Can we print on normal A4 or should we do photo prints? 4. For children application forms and declaration- how do we sign since they are Under 5 years and don't have that, can we just use their initials? 5. Still on children, do we need to provide: a. registration of birth of the hospital and name/address of the clinic since we are providing NPC? b. all school records, nursery records and names/addresses of schools attended - are these necessary/mandatory since they are U5? 6. Lastly, how long will the processing for my family take since we are applying together?
Thank you very much as you respond. The NPC should suffice, since your children are under 5. And yes it is mandatory that you include all the schools they attended , as the embassy might want to investigate the accuracy. family reunion takes about 6 months but you might be lucky and get the visa earlier. mine took only 2 months |
