Properties3 Buildings Housing 81 Police Families To Be Demolished In Lagos by kelvee(op): 8:19pm On Dec 29, 2016
The Nigeria Police in Lagos State, on Thursday said three more buildings housing 81 police families would be pulled down at the Highway Police Barracks, Ikeja due to structural defects.
Mr Maigari Dikko, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), in charge of Works disclosed the plan to newsmen while inspecting a building that collapsed in same barrack where two persons lost their lives.
A Sergeant and a civilian lost their lives on Christmas Day when part of the toilet collapsed while they bathed.
That building was later pull down on the instruction of the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr Fatai Owoseni.
The DIG works said he was instructed by the Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Idris to visit the scene of incident and also to commiserate with the families of those that lost their lives.
“We have told some of them to vacate the buildings. The buildings are defective; they have been served quit notice to leave for a long time.
“We have asked Commissioner of Police in charge of Lagos command and the works department to enforce the relocation. We do not want a repeat of the incident in the barracks.
“The officers affected are not being evicted. They are asked to relocate for obvious reason of safety.
“Prevention is better than cure. The force headquarter is not sitting idle.
“We are working out a plan for a better rehabilitation of all defective buildings in all barracks across the nation. We are going to use our professionals to carry out the works.
“We are using direct labour to rehabilitate police barracks. The project will commence as soon as the government releases the needed fund’’, Dikko said.
The DIG said that all police officers affected would be given lodging allowance for relocation as soon as the government released the fund.
“That is the best we can do for them; we will not just throw them out, we will ensure they have something to relocate”, he added.
Some of the officers affected, who spoke with newsmen on condition of anonymity, were happy about the peomise of lodging allowance for their relocation.
“We will be happy if we have money to move to another accommodation. We are not against the rehabilitation plan of the force.
“We will also be happy to be re-allocated our apartments after the rehabilitation because barrack is safer for our families’’, they told NAN.
Each block of the two storey buildings accommodated 27 police families of rank and file, and some ASPs.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police Zone 2, Mr Kayode Aderanti and Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Fatai Owoseni accompanied the DIG on the inspection.

FamilyFeminism Vs Women's Rights. by kelvee(op): 7:18am On Dec 29, 2016
What in my opinion constitutes women's rights? Here's a summary of the basics:
1. Physical protection and safety – this means no one has the right to abuse, harass, threaten a woman, or put a woman in a situation that endangers her physical well-being. A woman is to have a feeling of being physically protected.
2. Emotional protection and safety – no one has the right to emotionally abuse or torture a woman, cause her distress, endanger her spiritual well-being or undermine her feeling of emotional security. A woman is to have a feeling of being emotionally protected.
3. Appreciation – a woman should be appreciated for her being a unique human being, created in God's image,
and for her role as a woman, helpmeet, wife, and mother – which is also God-given.
4. Respect – a woman has the right to be respected. She has the right to express her opinions, which should be taken seriously. No one has the right to belittle a woman, deny her importance or boss her around.
Anything important that I might have forgotten can be considered as a part of physical or emotional well-being. You will also notice, of course, that everything I listed can be applied to all human beings, men as well as women – except that in number 3, 'role of woman, helpmeet, wife and mother' should be replaced with 'role of man, leader, husband and father'.
Now let's say a few words about feminism. Feminism is meekly defined as 'The name of a number of social, cultural and political movements, theories and moral philosophies that are concerned with cultural, political and economic practices and inequalities that discriminate against women.'
Some defenders of feminism claim that 'feminism is not against homemakers; it's all about choice" – is that so?
"A parasite sucking out the living strength of another organism...the [housewife's] labor does not even tend toward the creation of anything durable.... [W]oman's work within the home [is] not directly useful to society, produces nothing. [The housewife] is subordinate, secondary, parasitic. It is for their common welfare that the situation must be altered by prohibiting marriage as a 'career' for woman." ~ Simone de Beauvoir, The Second Sex, 1949.
"[A]s long as the family and the myth of the family and the myth of maternity and the maternal instinct are not destroyed, women will still be oppressed.... No woman should be authorized to stay at home and raise her children. Society should be totally different. Women should not have that choice, precisely because if there is such a choice, too many women will make that one. It is a way of forcing women in a certain direction." ~ Simone de Beauvoir, "Sex, Society, and the Female Dilemma," Saturday Review, June 14, 1975.
"Feminism was profoundly opposed to traditional conceptions of how families should be organized, [since] the very existence of full-time homemakers was incompatible with the women's movement.... [I]f even 10 percent of American women remain full-time homemakers, this will reinforce traditional views of what women ought to do and encourage other women to become full-time homemakers at least while their children are very young.... If women disproportionately take time off from their careers to have children, or if they work less hard than men at their careers while their children are young, this will put them at a competitive disadvantage vis-a-vis men, particularly men whose wives do all the homemaking and child care.... This means that no matter how any individual feminist might feel about child care and housework, the movement as a whole had reasons to discourage full-time homemaking."

Now let's have a look at the consequences of feminism and see if it provided women with the basic rights I mentioned in the earlier part of my post.
Over 40 years after the beginning of the modern feminist movement of the 1960's, we have unrestricted sex, the Pill, abortion on demand, an astronomically increased number of single mothers, teenage mothers and women in their 40's struggling with infertility; we have a fatherless generation who hasn't seen a better example; chastity is mocked, women are sexualized and coerced into selling themselves cheap; we have no-fault divorce, deterioration of family values – and I could go on and on. Tell me, how exactly does it provide women with a sense of physical and emotional security?
A woman is no longer appreciated and respected for being a woman – on the contrary, she is expected to be as masculine as possible, and every suggestion that there is, in fact, a difference in the way a men's and women's minds work meets vehement denial (even an innocent statement such as 'a research has found a higher percent of women have talent for studying languages, while men are more inclined to mathematics'). Motherhood is regarded as 'just one out of many options', and being a helpmeet is perceived as slavery.
A daughter can no longer expect to be protected by her father; a woman finds it hard to trust her husband's leadership and feel secure in her marriage, with the divorce rates so ridiculously high; a lady cannot expect chivalry anymore.
Feminism claims that before its onset, women were a faceless, abused, uneducated mass. Nothing could be further from the truth. Biblical laws have protected women for many centuries before feminism came into the picture. Take for example Deuteronomy 22:28-29. I've heard various opinions about this verse, but the bottom line is that a man cannot take a maiden's virginity and get away with it. What did feminism give us instead of defending a woman's honor and chastity? The preposterous claim that it has no importance and is more of a hindrance to a woman's 'liberation'.
Women's education is another myth. If you listen to feminists, women were nearly illiterate before the start of feminist movement. I wish they knew my great-grandmother, who was home educated and had wide knowledge of fine literature, music, arts, history and management of the home; she was accomplished in the domestic arts; she was an honored wife and the delighted mother of seven children. My grandmother did go to a women's college back in 1934, but it wasn't like today. She stayed with two respectable old ladies and helped them look after their home, and the ladies in turn looked after her and made sure no unworthy man gets near her.
Yes, feminism has provided us with 'freedom of choice' – but only for women who make a certain choice. What about women who want to fulfill their God-given role as helpmeets, wives, keepers of the home, mothers, and who see it as a satisfying, challenging, full-time work? But ah, they are mindless slaves! Oppressed! Brainwashed! They should be educated and forced – by legislations and campaigns – to make the right 'choice'.
If feminism is a movement for women's rights and for improving the position of women, its ultimate test should be a reality check of women's well-being, security and happiness. After doing such a check, isn't it obvious that feminism miserably failed?
I'm not saying the times before feminism were all of a rose garden; but I'm very much against feminism being portrayed as some sort of kind fairy who raised women from the dust and saved them from meaningless slavery. Do you now understand why?

EventsChristmas In The World by kelvee(op): 8:06am On Dec 24, 2016
By Muyiwa Adetiba
The Christmas season, as you would expect, has been full of jokes and satires in the social media. But the one that takes the cake for me because it reminds us so poignantly of the state of the nation, is that which said everything had been in recession this season—including harmattan. By now, the air—and everything around it—should have been covered with fog. The harmattan fog is to us what snow is to Europeans. Most Britons would look forward to a white Christmas and would feel incomplete if the roofs, trees and large portions of the roads were not covered with the white stuff. In fact, the British media could go into a frenzy over it. So it is with many Nigerians.
The harmattan, like snow, is a sign of completion, not only in calendar terms, but in the natural cycle of things. Night follows the day just as harmattan follows the rains. Anything they say, that disturbs nature disturbs life because as the way of nature so is the way of life. The absence, or sparse appearance of harmattan is probably reflecting the absence of many of the essentials in our society today. Is nature sending a message to us this yuletide season?
Christmas creeps on you. The awareness of Christmas thickens at a particular point even without having to look at the calendar. Gradually, like the onset of harmattan in years gone by, the atmosphere changes. The air becomes charged; the pace becomes more frenetic. End of year meetings are held with more urgency in the corporate world. And those who service that world—printers, event planners, gifts providers, accountants, Advertising Agencies shift into another gear as the year closes. It is almost like a long distance runner who bursts into a sprint as he approaches the finishing line knowing that a satisfying rest awaits if he finishes well.
The season in many ways rewards the year—for individuals, for families, for institutions and even for nations. It is also a season for love. People travel home in order to find a bride or a groom. Some to meet prospective in-laws and formalise relationships. And for a lot of Nigerians in the diaspora, it is the time to come home and be introduced to prospective future partners. And there are always more fun places to take loved ones to during the Christmas season. But it is not only relationships and wedding activities that heighten during Christmas. Most business activities do. In fact, it is often said that more informal business is done during Christmas than at any other time of the year.
It is difficult to talk about Christmas in my world without talking about my growing up years. Then, the quality of my Christmas often depended on the quality of my school result. If I did well, I earned bragging rights and a few concessions during the holiday season. This meant I had to learn to suspend all thoughts of Christmas until after the exams even when the early morning chills and carols meant the season was in the air. Christmas season—beginning after exams for me—meant a lot of indulgencies, starting from sleeping about an hour late in the morning to enjoy the warmth of my bed to skipping morning baths.
It meant looking forward to receiving presents—including Christmas wears—without thinking of giving. It meant meeting up with older siblings and friends who had come home for the holidays. But it was always hard for me even then, to think of Christmas without the harmattan fog.
Christmas during the boom years was a joy. You got as many diaries and calendars as you needed. Hampers came from all and sundry. Even your enemies remembered to send something to you in this season of goodwill. The revelry, the fun, the parties started long before Christmas day and went on into the New Year. This was, we must not forget, the period of the 12 and the 13 month and everybody had money in his pocket and fun on his mind. The traffic to the Lagos Island was often a warning sign of the advent of Christmas because virtually all roads would be leading to the many shopping areas on the island.
Then monstrous go slows would build up to reach a crescendo on Christmas eve when places like Surulere, Apapa, Ikeja and the Island would virtually lock down. Everybody benefited from Christmas in those days—the rich, the poor and even the criminals. It was often said in my line of business that any printing press that was not busy during the yuletide season might as well fold up. One could say that about other lines of business at that time.
Now, everything has changed and it is not just the weather. Even the traffic has failed to acknowledge the advent of Christmas. There is a leanness in the air that is palpable. It seems the fat of the land has been swallowed by lean cows. The only people who have grains stored are the elites but unlike the days of Joseph in the Bible, they are not sharing. The champagne still flows but only in small, select circles. The opulent parties still take place but attendance is now strictly restricted. The rest are having to make do with trickles. There are many people who once had plenty but today are living from hand to mouth.
It diminishes one somehow when people who once had enough to give out are now turning to one for a hand out. There are kids who would gladly trade places with those in the motherless homes this Christmas only nobody would invite them. Internally Displaced Persons are not limited to the camps alone. They are scattered everywhere. I understand that we frittered the years of plenty away because we did not have a Joseph to advise on the importance of storing the excess grains and a Pharaoh with a will to do so.
But I still wonder if things have to be this bad for the average Nigerian. I am no economist but a policy that does not seem to arrest a deteriorating situation has to be re-examined. Many Nigerians are worse off this Christmas than last year’s.
There is a song at Christmas that a lot of worshipers in the orthodox churches, especially Catholic are familiar with because it is a song of advent. Its truth strikes me every year; more so this year. The first two verses are: (1) ‘Christ come quickly, there is danger at the door/ Poverty aplenty, hearts gone wild with war/ there’s hunger in the city and famine on the plain.’ (2) ‘Want demands a hearing in too many lands/ the sick go unattended, death deals a heavy hand/ the dreams of men are empty, their cups of sorrow full.’
Can these immortal verses be described as an exaggeration of the Nigerian situation this Christmas? I think not.
Meanwhile, count your blessings in whatever situation you find yourself and give yourself a merry Christmas. But please remember and pray for those who have nothing and no one this Christmas season.

SportsOkocha Reveals Reason For Early Retirement by kelvee(op): 7:30am On Dec 22, 2016
The former midfield maestro stated that not getting enough minutes on the pitch hastened his decision to quit the round leather game
Austin Jay Jay Okocha has attributed his decision to retire active football early to lack of enough playing time.
The ex-Nigeria international who dazzled the footballing world with his sizzling skills and breathtaking performances made the shock decision to leave the game in 2008. According to the Olympic Gold medallist, reduced minutes on the pitch of play triggered his exile from the round leather game, at the age of 34.
“I must confess that [not getting a lot of playing time] was one of the main reasons why I retired from playing at a very young age,” Okocha told media men at a press conference organised by Star Times.
“I believe that it is not worth it to train from Monday to Friday just to have 20 minutes on the pitch or sit on the bench on Saturday. I am very competitive.”
The midfielder who last represented Nigeria in 2006, appeared for the Super Eagles 75 times with 14 goals to his name.

CrimeCultism: Its Origin And Possible Solution In Nigeria by kelvee(op): 7:29pm On Dec 20, 2016
A cult can be said to emanate from great and excessive admiration or belief in a person or idea. This could be manifested in rituals, praise songs, chants and worship. It is an unquestionable practice that may be difficult to dislodge even with superior argument. Secret cult could therefore be defined as a set of practices, belief system or idea whose essence is known only to the inner members and excessively admired and defended even to the point of laying down one’s life. Secret cult groups have in recent years expanded fast, become bold, and gradually becoming a societal norm. They have been left largely unchecked by the security agencies thus operating in such ways that they cannot be described as a ‘secret cult’ any longer but a cult group.
Cult activities in Nigerian universities include various forms of violence to suppress other cult groups, tormenting innocent and vulnerable students, organising raids, and in some cases armed robberies. Cult members are also used as thugs during election to foster violence and rig elections in favour of their sponsors. It is hard to believe that someone who gets inducted into a cult group would be moulded into a better person because these groups preach negative values that would gradually turn one into a menace in the society.
In Nigeria cult groups have not been restricted to corners of the university campuses. They have spread into the society at large and operate in various cells in our communities. Cult groups now recruit their members from tender age as early as secondary school students, they also recruit non-students in a bid to grow their membership.
THERE IS ALWAYS A BEGINING TO EVERYTHING
The origin of cultism in Nigeria can be traced back to 1952 when future-Nobel Prize winning author Wole Soyinka and a group of six friends formed the Pyrate Confraternity at the University of Ibadan. The Pyrates was formed to checkmate the imbalance between the elite and the poor in the university system at that time. They observed that the university was populated with wealthy students associated with the colonial powers and a few poorer students striving in manner and dress to be accepted by the more advantaged students, while social life was dictated by tribal affiliation. For almost 20 years, the Pyrates were the only confraternity on Nigerian campuses.
Over the years, due to doctrinal differences and inability of intending members to meet required standards of the Pyrates confraternity, protestant ones started emerging like the Buccaneers, Mafia and Vickings.
A major reason for the creation of new confraternities was the fact that members of the new groups simply did not meet the high academic and intellectual standards set by the Seadogs. However, Soyinka would later point to individuals who became accustomed to exerting power in the rigidly hierarchical confraternity, and were unwilling to give it up, as to blame for the initial schism. As new groups formed, inter-group tensions led to fighting, though these were initially limited to fistfights. The early nineties thus witnessed a boom as every university was plagued with cult explosion such as the , Black Cats, Trojan Horse, Black Panthers, Eiye, Maphites, Temple of Eden, The Jurists, The Executioners, Black Beret, National Association of Adventurers, Black Scorpion, Eagle Club, Termites, Knight Cadet, Sonmen, White Angels, Amazons, Daughters of Jezebel, and the Black Brassieres.
The spread of cult groups outside the university campuses can be traced back to the late 1990’s when there was a nationwide renouncement of cultism by university students and the breakdown of traditional campus cults all over the country as a result of amnesty granted to all renounced cultists at the onset of the present democratic government. This led to migration of cultists from the campuses to residential neighbourhoods and streets as campuses were no longer a safe haven for them. Incompetence of security officials and inadequate facilities to police campuses led to the resurgence of cultism in the campuses as renounced cultists who could not be protected by the Law, went back to their cult groups to seek protection from rival groups who had discerned their identity as a result of the renouncement ceremony. This resulted in a situation where cult groups were now well established in- and outside the campuses.
WHEN RADICALS ARE LEFT TO RUN UNCHECKED PAINFUL EPISODES FOLLOW
After the split of cult groups and the spread of these groups from the four corners of their university campuses, the radicals ran wild in the street and painful episodes followed. The attendant effects of cultism on the learning process cannot be exhausted as both intra and inter-cult clashes negatively affect the students in a very high proportion. It sometimes leads to incarceration, rustication or expulsion of both innocent and student members.
On 8th June 2006, some cult members invaded University of Ado-Ekiti at 12 noon where they burnt the cadet’s office, killed three students and wounded many students and staff of the university. Cultists have struck and killed many students in higher institutions in Nigeria, with the most gruesome happening at the Obafemi Awolowo University, on July 10, 1999. Before the attack OAU had been considered one of the safest universities in the country, largely due to student-organized resistance to the confraternities. After one cult member was shot and killed during an attempted kidnapping in 1991, the confraternities appeared to stay away from the university. In February 1999, student leaders organized a campus-wide search, which found eight secret cult members who were stockpiling machine guns and other weapons in their dorm room. This enraged the confraternity, who organized a murder squad that hacked the student union secretary-general to death in his bed and targeted other student leaders.
Most recent cult trouble in Nigeria is the River State cult group clash. The trouble started when a cult group known as Sailor, allegedly invaded Omoku town in Onelga, killed and beheaded a member of a rival group, the Icelanders.
WHY CULT GROUPS ARE SEXY AND IRRESISTIBLE TO YOUTHS
In a society which you are deemed less important than a tiny speck that floats in the air, you receive neither protection nor recognition to gain a social reputation are required to belong to a fraternity. The fraternity would not only protect you but give induct you into the high class in the society. You are rest assured that you won’t be indicted for whatever wrongdoings you get involved and you have a solid backup.
There are numerous reasons why people opt to join cult groups, most notable of them are; influence of peer groups, parental background, societal decadence, erosion of educational standards. Cult members are even given a high level of respect on university campuses and the society at large.
THERE IS ALWAYS A WORKABLE SOLUTION TO IDENTIFIED PROBLEMS
The problems of secret cults on our campuses are many and complex, but workable solutions are few, cult groups keep spreading daily on university campuses and they seem to run rampage despite various efforts by the government to curb this menace.
Cultism is not only present in our tertiary institutions but in all levels of our educational system and a lasting solution to the problem, therefore, lies outside the purview of draconian laws and naked power show. To make cultism unattractive and an unnecessary option, there must be improved facilities and living conditions on campuses so as to minimize perceived strain in the social system which underlines cultism on our campuses. Our institutions must be overhauled in order to be capable of providing for all who live within them and be able to correct the injustices against any student or group of students by peaceful and lawful means. Adequate protection should be made available to non cult members and amnesty should be granted to cult members who are willing to denounce association with cult groups. Sensitization and orientation of youths of the evil cult groups pose to their lives and the society at large should be properly carried out. It is obvious that university cannot be all about academics and class work. Students need to be encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities. In North America students are encouraged to belong to brotherhood which is registered with the university administration, this can also be introduced into the Nigerian system.

EventsUK Decorates Nigerian Naval Officer With Sword Of Honour by kelvee(op): 8:00pm On Dec 19, 2016
A Nigerian Naval officer has been honoured in the United Kingdom for exhibiting rare enthusiasm and commitment to his training at the Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC).
Sub Lieutenant (SLt) Abdulrahman Buniyamin was presented with a ceremonial sword by General Sir Gordon Messenger, Royal Marines, Vice Chief of the Defence Staff during the final passing-out-parade held at BRNC on 16 December 2016. Among the VIP guests invited to attend the parade was Brigadier General Gbolahan Oyefesobi, the Defence Advisor at the Nigerian High Commissioner.
The sword is sponsored by the Britannia Association, the College Alumni, and also recognises the Cadet who improved the most during training.
SLt Buniyamin trained at the College between February and October 2015, completing the 30-week initial naval training course alongside his UK counterparts. Through hard work and dedication he overcame initial difficulties to meet the standards required of him, putting in extra hours of study and foregoing his free time for private tutoring.
During his time at the world-renowned College SLt Buniyamin achieved a Royal Yacht Association Powerboat Level 2 qualification and became known as the first to volunteer for any extra task.
SLt Buniyamin, who is currently serving on the Nigerian Navy ship Burutu, said: “I am very happy to receive this prize. I put in my best effort for every activity, be it assessed or not assessed. My knowledge has improved by being here, which has made me a better naval officer back at home.”
BRNC is a modern military College steeped in traditional values. In 2016 the College provided initial naval training for nearly 500 cadets destined for careers in the Royal Navy, the Royal Fleet Auxiliary or overseas naval and defence forces. In addition the Royal Naval Leadership Academy has provided professional development courses for almost 6,000 Officers and Ratings across the Service. Members of the Royal Naval Reserve and the Cadet Forces have also had extensive use of the facilities at the College.
As part of the UK’s commitment to Nigeria, a resident British Military Advisory and Training Team in Nigeria coordinates an expanding programme of UK support in capacity building for the Nigerian Armed Forces. A Liaison and Support Team provides specific guidance and medical provision.
Some 2,000 Nigerian military personnel have received UK training prior to deploying on operations in the North East. Several thousand more have benefited from UK specialist military training.
More than 300 UK military personnel provided training to the Nigerian Armed Forces this year (2016). This is more than double the number of UK personnel who deployed to Nigeria on training tasks in 2015.

Christianity EtcDoes God Really Care? by kelvee(op): 7:17am On Dec 18, 2016
Where is God when disaster strikes? Whether it comes wreaking havoc in our private world or whether we see it in mammoth proportions on our TV screen, we can’t help but question and wonder. Does God care when tragedy sweeps in unexpectedly and tears at the very fiber of our being with inexpressible grief? The answer is “yes!” Yet to find the comfort He offers we must first get past the questions.
When Jesus walked this earth He told His followers that in this world there would be trouble. Since the beginning of time there has been struggle on this earth –germs and weeds, storms and insects, people problems and money problems. The Bible tells us that God set things in motion on this earth. The seasons come and the seasons go and God does not necessarily intervene in every one.
Was this God’s fault?
When we find ourselves appalled at the overwhelming things happening in life we cannot always determine the source. It may be the world and the forces of nature set in motion at the foundation of the world; it may be consequences of our own flesh and choices we have made; it may be spiritual opposition from the enemy of our soul or it may come from the very hand of God.
We can agonize over the possibilities as we seek to answer the heart wrenching, “Why?” Yet we cannot understand God nor can we always determine the answer to the difficult “why?” even though we try desperately.
The hope that we have in times of severe circumstances and agonizing grief is the knowledge that God does care and He will help us through. Often our unanswered questions leave us blaming God and we distance ourselves from the very One who can bring comfort to the anguished heart.
Is God on our side?
We know God sees everything that happens to us. Nothing is a surprise to Him. We wish He would intervene and stop the pain. We wish children did not die and loved ones were not lost. As our lives play out on planet Earth
we find ourselves with a choice to make.
We can believe God is a God of love or we can turn from Him in anger.
We can believe that His heart is always for us or we can believe He is cruel and mean. Running to Him in the midst of our anguish will take us into His arms of comfort. Pushing Him away will leave us alone with desperation in our souls.
The main theme running through the Bible is God’s great love for us. Over and over He tells us that He sent His son, Jesus, to this earth to heal broken hearts.
Even King David, known to be a man after God’s heart, went through times of great tears to the point that those around him questioned, “Where is your God?” (Psalm 42) Yet he also knew how the Lord took note of his anguish and recorded his tears. (Psalm 56:cool He ran to God for strength in his despair.
There is still hope for us
When we simply cannot understand the twists and turns of our path we can run to the One who will anchor us. He doesn’t promise our lives will be free of trouble yet He does promise to hold us close through it all. Never doubt God’s love and care. He hurts when we hurt. His son, Jesus, went up the agonizing hill to the cross and understands the deep anguish the soul can plunge to. That’s why we can trust Him to be with us in our times of overwhelming stress.
God continually calls us to come to Him with our burdens and find rest for our souls. (Matthew 11:28 & 29)
He invites us to cast our worries on Him because He cares. (1 Peter 5:7)
He invites us to come to His throne and ask for mercy and grace to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)
He will be our Comforter in sorrow when our heart is faint. (Jeremiah 8:18)
He offers strength when we are weak. (Philippians 4:13)
He heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds.(Psalm 147:3)
When our minds cannot comprehend the tragic events we find ourselves in … our hearts can reach to the God of all Comfort to find the strength we need to get through today and to know that there will be help and hope for tomorrow.

BusinessFG Lifts Ban On 41 Imported Items by kelvee(op): 2:16pm On Dec 16, 2016
The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) on Friday lauded the Federal Government’s plans to lift foreign exchange restriction on 41 imported items.

Mr Stanley Ezenga, the National Publicity Secretary of the association, gave the commendation in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.
The Federal Government had indicated its readiness to lift the forex ban it placed on some 41 items in 2015.
Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun, had in the 2017 Fiscal Policy Roadmap, said Federal Government “will replace administrative measures on list of 41 items with fiscal measures to reduce demand pressure in the parallel market.

Ezenga said that the plan would boost importation activities at the nation’s ports.
He said that lifting of ban on the items would not solve the declining value of the naira, urging government to come up with a more result-oriented forex policy.

“The plan by the government to lift foreign exchange restriction on some 41 imported items is good news for import.
“We can now have more import activities at the ports and the various jobs lost to the restriction can now come back.
“However, the unbanning alone will not solve the problem of the naira.
“Government should come with a more workable policy to boost value of the naira,“ Ezenga said.
He said that freight forwarders had lost 50 per cent jobs to the restriction, hoping that the lifting would address the situation.

PoliticsPastor Paul Urges Christians To Take Part In Active Politics by kelvee(op): 10:22pm On Dec 11, 2016
The Senior Pastor, House on the Rock, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, has urged Christians all over the world and Nigeria in particular to take active participation in politics saying, it is the only way to right the wrong.
He made the call during the annual programme “The Experience”media chat when he gave a shocker that, the country is faced with its current challenges because it lacks faithful and honest leadership.
According to him, “Righteousness, the bible says, exalts a nation, Proverbs 14 vs 34 and this explains why certain nations, irrespective of their religion are exalted.
He explained that, righteousness must be the bedrock of Nigeria’s three arms of government including the legislature, judiciary, the executive as well as the fourth estate, the media for it to be Nigeria to be exalted.
He however called on the church to take part in governance saying if the country would be blessed and have a turn around, the political system must be influenced and changed by honest and uncompromised Christians.
Voting for change is merely the beginning of the process. We the citizens are the potential change agents that God positioned on purpose in this location, Nigeria, to effect a conscious, deliberate, surgical overhaul of our culture, as we know that corruption has become our nature in this country and also an issue to deal with.
Speaking on the 2016 edition of the “The Experience”, he said, it has always been about revealing Jesus through music, as a platform on which gospel musicians showcase their talents and praise God for His abundant grace.
“It is my sincere prayer that “The Experience”2016 will further entrench values and the resetting of our nation’s moral compass for good, so that righteousness will indeed exalt our great nation Nigeria”, he said.

CareerDeveloping Ideal Habits by kelvee(op): 6:51am On Dec 08, 2016
Life is a journey rather than a destination and to make the most out of life we must slow down and enjoy the journey.
We should enjoy our sleeping and waking moments; we should take time and enjoy our meals; our families; our life’s work; the people that we meet along the pathway of life; we should take some time and smell the roses and view the beauty of nature.
Most of life is routine and we should learn to enjoy the simple things as well as the great things and build up memories around them. Too many people hurry through life without experiencing thrills of the moment. We need to have dreams and goals to accomplish however; we need to enjoy the journey towards fulfilling our dreams and realizing our goals.
We cannot get caught up or so focused on a project or a goal that we miss out on the excitement of the journey.
The fact is after reaching a goal there will be other more goals to reach; after conquering a mountain there will be other mountains to conquer because humans were designed for growth and for self expression therefore, the excitement is really in the journey to the finish line.
On the other hand many people who are always in a hurry have left wisdom behind; they are very busy but not effective. Many people just get busy with activities without really knowing what they want of life; they have no plans, no real goals or at most they have vague dreams for their lives.
People who take up more commitment than they can effectively handle tend to hurry. I believe one of the most important word we need to say is NO. We must say NO to any commitment that are not really in line with our goals and which will overwhelm us in order to say YES to the most important things in life. People who are in the habit of putting things off until the eleventh hour also lead hurried lives.
When we hurry through life we become stressed out which leads to a burn-out. People who hurry through life are strangers to peace of mind. Slow down enjoy and appreciate the people in our lives.
We have one life to live and we will never pass through this path again. Therefore, we need to live amazed.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?
Actually, who are we not to be?.....

CrimeObiano Welcomes “Exercise Python Dance” To Anambra by kelvee(op): 8:44pm On Dec 06, 2016
Gov. Willy Obiano of Anambra on Tuesday welcomed the launch of the “Exercise Python Dance” by the Nigerian Army in the state and urged the people to cooperate with army in sustaining the relative peace in Anambra.

“They are not Army of occupation as being labelled by some people, especially on the online media.

“Nobody will be molested,” Obiano told the people but warned criminal elements to steer clear of the state as the exercise would not be friendly to them.

He recalled that when he took over the mantle of leadership of the state, there was insecurity, making many indigenes to stay away from the state.

The governor, however, noted that the trend had been reversed with the task force he had set up to deal with the situation, adding that incidents of kidnapping and other forms of criminality had been checked in the state.
In a remark at the launch, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, said the exercise was a training programme like others launched in other parts of the country.

Buratai stressed that the exercise was part of the Army’s constitutional responsibility to aid civil authority in maintaining internal security.

He warned that those who would want to disrupt the peace of the state would have themselves to blame.

PoliticsNdigbo Will Never Accept Defeat— Onyeka Onwenu by kelvee(op): 2:17pm On Dec 06, 2016
The Igbo race has been called upon never to accept defeat of any kind as they remain survivals during and after the civil war. Rather, they should rise up and move forward.
This was the submission of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stalwart and woman activist, Onyeka Onwenu at launch of “The Land of my Birth,” a book written by Abraham Nnadi in Lagos recently.
Onwenu said that apart from the book provoking a nostalgia feeling f.or those of them who witnessed the war, the book was of particular interest to Ndigbo.
She said: “Land of my Birth is a book that provokes nostalgia feelings. As a people, we read about ourselves, what we went through during the civil war and thereafter.
“But, particularly, the book speaks to Ndigbo of what we had gone through and have continued to go through in this country. We are never a people that will accept defeat. Having gone through hardship and deprivation, we have remained stronger. So, as survivals, Ndigbo the world over should rise up and just keep going forward.“
The former Executive Director, National Centre for Women Development also called for a female president in Nigeria. She said women if given the opportunity can heal and nurture the world.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Ebere Amaraizu, made the disclosure on Tuesday in Enugu in a statement issued to newsmen.

“They allegedly abducted daughter of the Neighbourhood Watch Chairman of Umuawaragu-Nara, identified as Chinenye Nwobodo.
