Fact Check:

1. 96% of mosques in Nigeria do not operate a bank account. (Published by NBS)

2. No Imam owns a mosque and cannot handover a mosque to his children.

3. When an individual builds a mosque, it still does not belong to him but hands it over. He has no say on who becomes the Imam of the mosque.

4. Friday freewill donations are strictly used for charity and mosque maintenance and this is strictly supervised by a council.

5. No Imam in Nigeria has a private jet. (NBS data authenticate this information.)

So, why will any Imam or Mosque be afraid of CAMA? Only those with business empires to protect are afraid of CAMA.

You are spewing trashes. can you compare charity work of Christianity and that of Islam?

I've always been a knowledge enthusiast, always seeking to get first hand and credible information before voicing opinions. I'm not a fan of pastors cos many of them peddle lies and deceit.
Many of us shouting stop the CAM Act. Don't even know the details of the Act in the first place, most of us haven't gone through it, they just take whatever their pastors tell them, hook line and sinker. Many of the pastors are against this, because it affects their own area of business, not because it is bad generally. They didn't point out the fact that it helps for the ease of registration and running of business for the common man, where single share holded companies and one man companies doesnt need to employ auditors, where virtual meetings and electronic meetings are now acceptable? Etc
Why won't the govt treat churches like a business? When they are run like a business. If these churches are run the way it's supposed to be, they wouldn't have issues.
Churches claim that they are non profit organizations, but how do you explain the fact that the pastor, takes the people's donations, and buy a private jet for himself, open and run universities from proceeds of DONATION in order to make personal profit, live lavish lifestyles and build mansions from a supposed NON PROFIT organization.
The pastors have proven not to be very accountable with church funds that's why the govt ammended the 1990 Act. The question is, why is it that churches are the only ones shouting against this? What about thousands of other ophanage homes, motherless babies, NGOs, mosques, and other denominations?
If actually they're in for "service" they shouldn't really be bothered by the clause of changing board of trustees, in the real world, any company or organization that is found to be miss run, is investigated and the executives suspended for the mean time. Are they afraid of being investigated? In America and uk for instance, at some point, the MfM church and kicc were taken over by the govt during the time of investigation. So it's normal.
Why is it that the churches which are run like business are the ones complaining? It's just like in a class and a few group of students are complaining about a new tough exam invigilator, is there something they are afraid of? Or is it actually in defence of the body of Christ?

You end up saying nothing

I wonder why the journalist had to apologize. FFK only wanted to avoid that question by trying to intimidate the poor journalist.

The NUJ also needs to take an action against him. They should demand for an appology and if he refuses, NUJ can order it members not to give coverage to that his useless tour.

How can a professional journalist ask such question? that is a very silly question. That journalist needs more training. Presently ffk is not a public office holder, he is not accountable to anyone.

I believe it was not war against the church when mainly Christians in the north were being killed and none of the GOs shouting today stood their ground against it. Now its what touches them (money and power) everyone is shouting.

We had (probably still have) the opportunity to change the status quo of evil in this country but the GOs who frolic with these politicians will not make this categorical stance.

Just one Sunday protest in declaration from 2 to 3 GOs against just one or two evils that bedeviling this country would make us have a U-turn for the better. But of course none will speak up.

CAN protested against insecurity in Nigeria, Pastor Adeboye did the same, Apostle Suleiman spoke against it, Bishop Oyedepo always speaks against Islamization of Nigeria. May be you have not been following the happenings.

So much sentimentalism and sensationalism around religiosity and religion.

The video speaks volume but of course religious folks will not even take anything out of it even if they listen to the entire 1hr plus video.

Its simple. The so called "churches" are registered under Federal Government of Nigeria under CAMA as companies, probably NGO or charity organisations for which many claim they are not charity organisations when it comes to assisting even their own members; not to talk of those not their members. If the FGN decides to regulate the activities of these companies for better transparency i see no issues. Personally, the only issue i see is the clause "without recourse to court" which is quite draconian. But setting up committees to oversee the affairs of these company is welcome.

Again this act will absolutely not affect the church. Many mistake the church with the company (which has a name and many branches). Christians have spent too much time building companies rather than The Church. So we now confuse company with church. You cannot imagine the scale of corruption that will be exposed should this law take full effect; i believe this is what the MOG's are fighting against.

My 50cents.

The main issue here is government interfering with church leadership. Mallam Aboki who is a minister of Nigeria has power to suspend or dismiss church leadership and nobody can challenge it in court. This is a war against the church.

I think from what I read about the law, it allows government to appoint an Interim management at times it deem necessary so as to probe the activities of the church, and of course every other org in same category. I wonder why we should be so worried if things are all going right with the running of these org before the new CAMA. Maybe I am missing something. Someone should enlighten us please on exactly how the new CAMA could make things grossly different in such a way that it will inhibit the spiritual duties of the church. I do not like to rush in condemning a thing before i fully understand its motive, more so that similar laws are obtainable elsewhere. Maybe someone should put light on the motive or as the church would like to say, the interest, of the government with this law and why a spiritual body should be exempted. The comments so far have not addressed that.

CAMA states that the board of church trustees can be suspended or abolish by a sitting Minister of Nigeria without recourse to court. That means Alhaji Aboki Mallam who is a minister can now come and suspend or dismiss church leadership, and nobody can go to Court to challenge it. It does not work that way.

Kizito Iwuoha wrote.

For those of you who don't know what CAMA means, in concise terms this is what it entails
.
When you register your business or organization as a charity or NGO, it means that whatever funds that comes in and goes is for the public and NOT for your personal use. You are accountable to the public. In exchange the government exempts you from paying tax. That is how it works
.
Also, the government has the power to monitor and regulate such tax exempt organisations to make sure that the funds raised are for the public as stipulated and not misappropriated or diverted for personal use.
.
This is how it works globally, including the UK, US etc.
.
Religious organizations and their businesses worldwide also register as charities and NGOs and that is why no church, mosque etc or any of their establishments pays tax.
.
Now it is the duty of the government to regulate these bodies who don't pay tax by making sure that the funds they generate rightly goes back to the public and not for personal gain.
.
This is the reason why CAMA was created
.
Now the question is why are only the Pentecostal pastors shouting? Why is the Catholic Church not complaining? Why are the rest Orthodox and Presbyterian churches not complaining? Because I don't get it, these same pastors shouting here all have branches abroad and they dutifully obey the laws there like lambs but when they come to Nigeria they want to be lawless.
.
These same pastors rejecting CAMA now have all been involved in fraud due to misappropriation of funds in the UK.
.
Ashimolowo was sanctioned by the UK government over fraud. CAMA was what gave him out!
.
Oyedepo is banned from entering the UK because of fraud and diversion of church funds. CAMA was what gave him out!
.
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome also...
.
These people know that once you implement CAMA here as is obtainable in the UK and the rest, they are finished and that's why they are fighting and kicking. This is why rather than fight the law through the right channels using legal means, they employed the best way they know how– religious sentiments! It works on their members like charm! They claim it's an attack against the church as if the lawmakers who signed the bill into law after the 1st, 2nd and 3rd reading are all pagans. Nonsense
.
Well, I've got news for these folks and their compatriots... CAMA is here to stay and asides wailing your lungs out, there's absolutely nothing you can do. If you don't like it go and create your own country!

You only think about the financial but the part that states the removal of board of trustees without recourse to court. Don't you think Catholic Church would be affected? one Fulani mallam who is a minister can remove anyone from the church the way he wish. This is totally condemnable.

Hello nairalanders, I need your opinions on this matter.

My boyfriend of 3 years who is now my fiancee (we are talking marriage already) is constantly talking to his ex girlfriend (who is now married).

They discuss all manner of things, ranging from how she misses him and wished she had waited for him.

Trouble started when he told her he was planning to settle down (I still wonder why he told her) ever since she's always coming up with pots of lies against me. She claims someone told her so many things about me.

She fabricating lies isn't my major concern because I know once something good is about to happen the devil comes in many ways than one to destroy it.

I've told my man all about my past life and everything in it, recently he accused me of withholding some information of my past. The ex girlfriend had a chat with and told him things I don't even know about.

Nairalanders this lady is married, why is she poke nosing into our affair?? If she loved him that much, why did she marry another man?? Why is my man giving her audience Is he still in love with her I know she's obsessed about me. Her constant chats with him, makes him accuse me of things I've never done in my entire life.

I told him we should suspend the marriage until he's done with his investigation since he doesn't believe me cos he said if he finds out something I did in my past in the future and I didn't tell him it will be a problem.

Admins pls push to front page.

My dear, there is something you have not tell us. Who is your ex boyfriend fiancee to you? You girls know yourselves. Don't say it is the devil, it is not. Tell your boyfriend the real truth and you would be freed. Probably you told your boyfriend half truths about yourself because you are desperate to marry, and there is somebody who knows you very well. I pray God will save that young man from you, because I don't trust you girls. Open up to him the whole truth.

I was about saying this. Aside those FLYOVERS, I think Uyo is still largely a slum, because even beside those roads and FLYOVERS you will continue to see slum settlements everywhere in the state. AKWAIBOM people outside of their state are not different, they live in batches, shanties etc.

95% of AKWAIBOM people are so poor despite the huge oil revenue that accrues to the state.

AKWAIBOM state government should prioritise human capital development and education. Building multiple airport terminals, FLYOVER, bridge, stadia etc, can never be useful to an average AKWAIBOM indigene because most of them are still very poor and cannot even afford air ticket.

Who told you that majority of Akwa Ibomites are poor? this is very wrong. if you want to see poverty and shanty houses go to the South east. check poverty in the North, and also consider brown zinc and rusted houses in the West.
