It ws nw January 2013 n we had nt done
Matric.Worse still,it ws postponed even further.
A week 2 Matric,we wer told 2 collect Matric gowns
behind basement.
By 1st submitin our Original Eligibility...
Each faculty stayed on a queue wic was damn
long.Bt we wer nw used 2 it.We got our gowns,som
of wic wer dirty,som smelly n som wer clean.Non of
these rili mattered as long as u had a gown.
It ws d 1st tin we eva collectd witout making instant
payment.Ofcourse,we knew we had paid 4 it
somwer.
D day of Matric came.
It ws wondaful.I put on my white shirt,black
Jean,black suit,black hat,nice pair of shoes n a black
walking stick.
In an attempt nt 2 go too early,i ended up going
late.
I got 2 skul n dang! It ws crowded,it ws as tho d
Matric ws 4 all students.
I cud c dos dat had earlier lied dat dey wer in 200 or
300 level putin on Matric Gowns,all I cud do ws
smile within.
Howeva,abt one third dint hv a gown as som wer nt
interested,som cudnt find deir eligibility n som went
late n wer told d gowns wer finished.Finished...!?
Dang! Dey neva seemd 2 stop amazing us.
D Matriculating students (dos wit gowns only)
matchd on a single file,tru d back gate in2 d
auditorium.
Read d Uniben anthem n wer spoken 2 by d VC
along wit oda negligible activities n came out in
less dan 30 mins as we wer flanked left,right n
centre wit photographers who at a time seemd 2 be
more dan d students demselves.
Evry1 wnted to tak a pix as we all sought 2
immortalise d special moment.
I picked jst two photographers 2 tak all my photos
wit,while odas took wit as much as 10,forgetin d
consequence.
I cud hardly find dos I wntd 2 c as der ws network
congestn.
I took my pics wit d few fwndz I saw,n also wit my
Mum n elda bro n went 4 d Sos Sci matric party.
It wsnt only Sos sci dat had one,all faculties did...n
dey all held at Educatn field...opposit Faculty of Edu.
We all danced,took more pics,ate n shouted.It ws
fun,truly,it was.
D day came 2 an end,n we had nw done our
Matriculatn yet we didnt hv matric numbers.
D followin days afta matric wer 4 collectin
pictures....I cud collect only a handful,afta d dozens
I took n most of em,i dint rili like....many who
choosed 2 use mor photographers collected far
less...Only dos who brought deir personal
photographers registered a success rate of near
100%

abt som weeks later, We wer told 2 com n collect
our Matric numbers wer we earlier did our faculty
clearance.
I went later on,n 4 once,der ws no queue.I signed on
my name n wrote out my number.
I nw had d true identity of a student.

D Matric ws gud,it ws fun n sweet.We tut tins wud
always be lik dat,nt knwin der wer still lots of
mountains to climb.

D followin monday,I ws prepared 2 go early....bt Important classes dint giv me a free tim until 12noon.I rushd der 2 see pple standin on dft queues(abt 7).....W

All these tins tut me lessons 1 way or d oda....No 1 wrote abt it lik dis 4 me...Bt I'm doin it 4 u so dat u'l hv insight 2 d future......People r waitin 2 judge u n call u names,bt jst maintain ur cool....der is a long road 2 be taken,seas 2 be sailed n mountains 2 be crossd....

And also its just u,ur family and frnds dat will be present and nt for d all general student.bt also if u dnt stil feel like celebratin it u can as well collect ur matric no and go back to ur hostel....bt trust me u must celebrate it cox ur rummate will be @ ur neck for ur matric rice
