Even when N200b was budgeted for subsidy the actual amount spent during Obj and Yaradua time were in the region of N500b to N600b. NNPC has the authority to deduct its expenses before remitting to the Federation account. It is called first line charge. When GEJ noticed the incresed in subsidy, he said no, this cannot be and must not continue. He removed it but the SW and some fools ganged up at Ojota, thinking that they were doing GEJ harm. Yes, it caused GEJ a lot of popularity and credibility; yet the masses are the losers. GEJ prosecuted the fuel subsidy thieves but till now, the courts have not convicted any of them.
