JaySterling:Anyone can buy a house, even from Nigeria. As long as there's a willing seller. |
amInigerian:H-1b and L-1 visas** If you hold H-1b or L-1 visa, your spouse is eligible to work or start a business. H-4s (spouses of H-1b), under certain circumstances, are issued an unrestricted EAD card that allows them to engage in any kind of employment/business. L-2s (spouses of L-1) are eligible for employment/business by virtue of their status. All immigrant visas (EBs) also allow the holder and their spouses to work or engage in business. |
CalmsoG:Did you finally get the birth certificate issue resolved? See this reddit post for the same issue. Looks like they accepted this guy's attestation + sworn affidavit https://www.reddit.com/r/USCIS/comments/1gf5z64/comment/lxlwhhu/?context=3 |
LucaRegal:An EB-5 Investor visa is granted to people who create an investment in the USA that meets the following criteria (among others): 1. Minimum investment amount: $1,050,000 or $800,000 (includes infrastructure projects) in Targeted Employment Area 2. An EB-5 investor must invest the required amount of capital in a new commercial enterprise that will create full-time positions for at least 10 qualifying employees. For a new commercial enterprise not located within a regional center, the new commercial enterprise must directly create the full-time positions to be counted. This means that the new commercial enterprise (or its wholly owned subsidiaries) must itself be the employer of the qualifying employees. For a new commercial enterprise located within a regional center, the new commercial enterprise can directly or indirectly create the full-time positions. Up to 90% of the job creation requirement for regional center investors may be met using indirect jobs. Direct jobs establish an employer-employee relationship between the new commercial enterprise and the persons it employs. Indirect jobs are held outside of the new commercial enterprise but are created as a result of the new commercial enterprise. More info on the visa can be found at https://www.uscis.gov/working-in-the-united-states/permanent-workers/eb-5-immigrant-investor-program |

Taal17:Isn't H1b an employment based visa? |
hammed71:According to various sources, a bachelor's degree alone does not qualify for an EB-2 National Interest Waiver (NIW). To qualify, applicants with a bachelor's degree must have at least five years of relevant work experience after graduating or demonstrate exceptional ability. Exceptional ability means having a level of expertise that is significantly higher than what is typically found in the arts, sciences, or business. |
Proteanmind:I am not sure about visa for opening a non-profit. Read more about the O-1 Visa. I believe that is for entrepreneurs. |
Is there anyone living in the DMV Metro area? (Virginia-DC-Maryland). How is the Naija community over there? Also any specific zip code/neighborhood good for raising kids in the way of the Lord? |
Nice thread y'all have here ![]() |
Choicexx:Man..each case is unique. Strong ties isn't that hard to prove. Try connecting with fairheart. He might be able to give you more tips. |
omofolajomi:Personally, I believe there are only three things a VO needs an F-1 applicant to prove. 1. Strong Home Ties: This is a no-brainer. A Visa Officer needs to be assured that you will return to Nigeria and not be a burden after you graduate. Do you have family here? Do you have a wife/husband in Nigeria? Do you have kids? Are you currently working? Do you own a business? Is it your family/Spouse that is funding you? Do you have scholarship from a local company? Is it a government scholarship? At least, can you clearly articulate your plans after you graduate? Does the VO has a gut-feeling that you are genuine? Do you have history of past travel and returning to Nigeria as at when due? Do you have a research you are working on tied to Nigeria? Just answer any of these questions honestly in your mind. If you are planning to lie to the VO, don't trip: Be rest assured you are coming out of that cubicle with a rejection slip. 2. Proof of Studentship: The VO is trained to pick the wheat from the chaff, to separate genuine students from people who want to japa. (Sorry if you don't know the meaning of Japa ). Answer honestly in your mind: What do you know about your research/course-of-study? Are you clear on your proposed thesis? What do you know about your school? The city where your school is? Where are you going to stay when you get to the US? Why did you apply to the school? Why did you select the school? Do you have contacts in your department? Is the course related to your undergraduate degree? If not, why are you switching careers? Can you articulate responses to these passionately? 3. Funds: Who is paying for your trip to the US? People with scholarships/fellowships/assistantships/funding from first family (mother, father, siblings, spouse) usually have no problem with this point. But if someone else is funding you, I mean awon Uncle, Aunties, In-laws, companies gang, be ready to explain the motive. Someone cannot just part away with millions of naira just because they love you. Be ready to explain, what is your relationship with this entity? How long have you known each other? What is their motive for investing in you? Are you paying back? Is it a loan? If you got a partial funding, and another entity is covering the rest, you'd still explain. If you got tuition waiver, with no extra funding, you need to explain solidly how you plan to survive in the US. If you have kids going with you, what is your educational plan for them? What is your medical plan? You must have sorted accommodation for at least a semester. You cannot be saying. You are not sure/act like you have not really prepared. So what's your plan? In essence, be honest and be prepared. The VO must have rejected you earlier for not meeting one of those requirements. The embassy/consulate HAVE YOUR RECORDS and also access to DO A BACKGROUND CHECK on you. So with these few points of mine, Be it as it may, if God wants you to be in US, and you have worked diligently and honestly, and you have nothing to hide, your visa WILL be approved. The God factor is the most important factor. As the maxim goes: work like you have not prayed, PRAY like you have not worked, because in essence, it is not by your hard-work. Whew! That was an epistle. My bad. I was a beneficiary of this thread (Part 15) and I look for opportunities to pay it forward. It's been a month in the US now and I must say, life is really good here. Back to my studies, Aluta Continua! PS: Don't look for my moniker, I'm on ghostmode |
PimpinPips:Just keep checking man. I think you can access 4 times in 24hrs. You can check randomly, or change location. |
Daodudavid:Congratulations man. For your safety, and for everyone's safety, I think you should expatiate more on what kind of help you mean - advice, information or financial? People should be encouraged to connect with you openly HERE for advice and information... And if financial, you can render by proxy, by using known names, such as fairheart etc. Jah bless your hustle man |
Jukwasi:Do you meet the minimum requirement for admission in those schools? I mean TOEFL, GRE, and GPA requirements? How strong are your reference letters? Do they require essays? You can do a rough estimate of your compatibility with a school on msinus (msinus.com). Usually if you meet the requirements of schools, they give admission, albeit conditionally. |
damtan:There are people...many sef. |
