In a country like Nigeria , where there are no laws and regulation to control the amount of contaminated air that workers are exposed to, we might end up with ailment that cannot be explained as a result of prolonged exposure.
Exhausting harmful chemicals fumes or just cooling off facility helps a lot in increasing employee efficiency. Just imagine walking into a bank, where there are no air conditioners functioning, productivity and morale would be at a low point allowing accident and errors to occur. But there need to be a balance between air inflow and outflow. It isn't just all about working in an office where there are air conditioners in every nook and "corner" of the office, that is never a definition of a good ventilation sysyem . Imagine a crowded bank, where every one is breathing in oxygen and breathing out carbon dioxide , the heat coming off the computers and other appliances , surely there is a need for exhausting air. One might feel the effect is negligible but over a long period it could have an adverse effect. I would focus on industrial ventilation fan.
Industrial ventilation fan is used to describe a fan that is used to exhaust contaminated noxious or hot air away from workers and/or machinery . The most common types of fan are panel fans or wall fans. The benefits include reducing exposure to airborne harzadous substances thereby preventing work related illness, preventing the accumulation of heat in workplace thereby preventing heat stroke and heat exhaustion, reducing time and money spent on inspection and cleaning of raw materials when dust, oil, organic solvent and other air borne substance are kept to minimum.
We must not forget that exhausting the air is not just enough , there has to be a replacement air other wise the area will be under negative pressure which is unhealthy for workers for a long period . Source of replacement could be via air conditioners .
Applications of industrial ventilation fans are paint spray booth, welding booth, grinding and polishing booth , portable dust collection , laboratories e.t.c
Domestic ventilation fans are used in restaurants, kitchens , offices .
So tomorrow when you walk into your working place, have a look around if you have a proper ventilation system , if you dont have one talk to your boss and if you are a boss reading this then I reckon you know what to do.
