People should point accusing fingers to the military for this coup instead of a particular ethnic group. All the subsequent coups were tagged military but this particular one is tagged ethnic. Why? There will not be peace for the wicked. Those who stir hatred and division for political gains will receive their retributive justice.

CFA and other neighboring country currency is now more valuable than naira. Our purchasing power significantly reduced, while those abroad are now swimming in excess money as tge exchange rate favours them. Look at how they're buying properties here and there but you'll hardly see an average Nigerian earning in naira in Nigeria not struggling.
EducationRe: ASUU Threatens Fresh Strike, Says FG’s Loan Scheme ‘Poison Chalice’ by kingi777(op): 11:25pm On Aug 23, 2025
AngelSlay:
It’s good that President Tinubu has shown some willingness to address ASUU’s grievances, but we also need to look at the broader picture. Clearing arrears and increasing salaries sounds fair, yet the bigger question is sustainability.

Nigeria is already struggling with a stretched budget, heavy borrowing, and competing demands from healthcare, infrastructure, security, and social welfare. If we keep increasing salaries without restructuring the system, we’ll only be postponing the problem.

The real tragedy is not just that a professor can’t afford a Toyota Corolla — it’s that universities are still producing graduates who lack the skills to compete globally. That’s not purely about salary; it’s about accountability, modernization of curriculum, research funding, and efficiency in how universities are run.

If government simply clears debts and raises salaries without demanding reforms from ASUU and the universities themselves, the cycle of strikes, arrears, and poor-quality education will continue. Nigeria needs to fix the foundation — not just patch the cracks.
Nigeria has funds to revitalise the University system just that, the educational sector seems to be disregarded. Judicial officers are now earning x3 of what they were earning in the last regime. Now the polical class are swimming in too much money. Nigerian graduates are competing wonderfully well anywhere in the world. There are a lot of reforms taking place in the University system but the impediment remains poor funding.

Na their way. Every time preek scratch them, they demand remuneration from the government. It’s the students I pity the most. Those ones sef don’t pity themselves until final year.
President Tinubu has tried in at least listening to ASUU by being magnanimous of paying them earn allowance and some months out of the 8months owed them. He should please clear the debt of 3 and half month left please. He should increase their salaries too. The value of education and the lecturers especially the professors that drag bike and Keke with students is dwindling. A Nigerian professor can hardly buy Toyota Corolla 2005 with his annual salary. This is pathetic.
EducationASUU Threatens Fresh Strike, Says FG’s Loan Scheme ‘Poison Chalice’ by kingi777(op): 6:18pm On Aug 23, 2025
Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to embark on strike over the Federal Government’s failure to implement agreements and resolve ongoing issues in Nigeria’s university system.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday at the University of Jos, the ASUU President, Prof. Christopher Piwuna, said the union had been “pushed to the wall” after over two years of patience without results.
Piwuna rejected the government’s loan scheme for university workers, describing it as a ‘poison chalice’.

He accused the present administration of deliberate delay tactics in renegotiating the 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement, addressing outstanding salary arrears, and implementing measures to revitalise universities.

“Trust has been destroyed by the government. It is, therefore, up to them to regain it to avert any strike,” Piwuna said.

On the 2009 Agreement and Collective Bargaining, the Union lamented that despite the submission of the Alhaji Yayale Ahmed Report in February 2025, the government has failed to act on its recommendations.
ASUU expressed concern that it undermined the principle of collective bargaining, to which Nigeria is committed as a signatory to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention.

While acknowledging a planned government meeting on August 28, ASUU warned that time was running out. The draft agreement, it noted, covers crucial issues such as conditions of service, university autonomy, academic freedom, funding, and the review of laws governing JAMB and NUC.

It strongly rejected the government’s proposed Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF), which seeks to provide loans to lecturers.

The union insisted that what its members needed was improved wages through the renegotiated agreement, not more debts.

The union also criticised the unchecked establishment of universities, accusing successive governments of turning them into tools for political patronage rather than genuine centers of learning.

According to the union, Nigeria has 339 universities, 72 federal, 108 state, and 159 private, yet many lack basic facilities and staff

He said the National Executive Council (NEC), after its recent meeting at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, resolved to wait for the outcome of the government’s August 28 meeting before taking further action.
However, the Union announced plans to hold rallies across university campuses next week as a warning signal to the government.

Car TalkRe: Man Declares Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, And RX350 The Most Reliable Cars Ever by kingi777:
I bought my Honda civic 2008 model with high mileage of over 400,000 km. The car was used last in Canada. The car has been serving me as I have peace. My work makes me travel from Abuja to neighboring states like Lafia weekly. but this car answers any time I call on it. Back in the days, I used corolla 2002 hatch back, change the engine yet it was always gulping oil. I used corolla 2012 South Africa for 8 years, change the engine also after it knocked, yet everytime I travelled, I must top up with one litre of oil before I discarded the car. Yes, the 2 corolla I used were rugged and prestigious but this Honda I'm using now is so luxurious with constant air conditioner and always answering and serving me.
EducationRe: The University Workers Disagreement On Sharing Formula Of N50b Intervention by kingi777: 10:40pm On Jun 10, 2025
otokx:
Some bad lecturers show up once or twice a semester, in the same vein some non teaching work extra hours to ensure tight deadlines are met, there is nothing that can justify the 80/20 formula, even ASUU is shocked that FG did such a thing.
If you understand the way universities work, then you would know that lecturers cannot abandone their work because you must cover your lecture schedule plus the CAs/exams, computation of results for students. You cannot postpone a semester or delay student's results. Infact, you must abide by the academic calendar which guides the activities in the universities couple with NUC monitoring through accreditation. Those lecturers that that show up once or twice might have junior colleagues that help them out and you can likely get such in old generation universities with too many academic staff but not in new generation universities with shortage of academic staff. Do you know that most academic staff can't go for leave because if you do, who would do the work? But the non teaching staff enjoy their 30 days yearly. The non teaching staff are doing their work o, but that of ASUU members are different and tedious and thank God Government has listened to their cries and suffering. It's not easy teaching a class of over hundred, marking their papers, computing their results and doing the administrative duties too.

JagabanBorgu:
Analysis like this always come from people who has never been to an institution when Non Academic Staffs are striking.
If non academic staffs are not functioning, students can't effectively carry out research projects even when guided by lecturers, I remember pausing my research for days because the non academic staffs were not on seat.
You can't complete administrative tasks if they are not there, they all make the system work, trying to exalt one when they obviously can't function without each other effectively is faIIacy.
Yes, the non teaching staff do their normal work from 8am to 4pm and go home. But the academic staff who are usually fewer especially in new generation universities due to strict policy of employment are usually overworked. My experience with them is that they work round the
clock.
EducationRe: The University Workers Disagreement On Sharing Formula Of N50b Intervention by kingi777: 9:32pm On Jun 09, 2025
ASUU members would lecture huge number of students, mark their papers, guide them in their projects research work. Work from 8am to 4pm which is the official work hours; then go home and continue working, even in the night and weekends plus holidays. The ASUU member would still do administrative duty if not the department would collapse. No wonder they're collapsing and dying due to stress. Mind you, the shortage of the teaching staff led to these excess work load.

I think taxation is responsible. You'll get a change of 200 to 300 naira buying an item from normal stores than supermarkets now. In the last government, most of the big supermarkets used to bubble with crowd. Then, a can of Guinness stout was between 400 to 600 naira; but now between 1200 to N1400. Infact, people dey respect themselves now; no more show.

PoliticsRe: Northerner Warns Igbos: Learn From The Yorubas Or Forget Nig Presidency—you Don’ by kingi777: 4:03am On May 01, 2025
Forget. Yoruba got presidency because of yhe intelligence and smartness of Tinubu to appeal to the north with religion. Even Obasanjo was supported by the military in power then. If you go to northern Nigeria, for a Christian to win in Kaduna or Nasarawa States, it would be like a cow passing through a needle eye. That's the same fate of the Igbo man. I'm yet to see where Igbo people converge or use government house or houses of assembly to say they don't need Nigeria. Some groups that are agitating for separation are also found in the north and southwest. The truth is that with the present situation, if the power shifts to north without completion of southern 8years, it would be difficult for the north to relinquish power again which may lead to crisis in the future.
EducationRe: NUC To Introduce 12 New Courses In Universities by kingi777:
Nwaikpe:
Nigerians are good at inventing rubbish

First, what is the meaning of "Medical Laboratory Scientist?"
Even the name is absurd.

But because one minister's pikin studied it, they made it a professional course. The very course that is only a branch of the well-known course called "Microbiology." But they even went ahead to push it for a "Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science." In some climes, even dentists and radiologists are not referred to as doctors but directly as their profession, even though their training is the same and even more than medical doctors. Very soon, they will push for technologists to be called engineers and engineers to be called technologists. That is what happens when illiterates take over power.
Bro, you got it wrong. How can you say Medical Laboratory Science is a branch of Microbiology? FYI, MLS basically encompasses medical microbiology, hematology, histopathology, chemical pathology. It's a broad course that produces manpower for different areas of Biomedical Science/ Laboratory medicine.
Go and ask NUC why they're now considering physiotherapy, pharmacy and now medical laboratory science for doctorate classification

PoliticsRe: Obasanjo’s $700m Cameroon Investment Sparks Concerns Over Nigeria’s Business Cli by kingi777: 9:11am On Apr 04, 2025
Most businesses are going through multiple taxation in Nigeria especially FCT. Environmental, fumigation, certification of fitness of your premises, tenement rate, sign board, television tax all under the council areas. Then you pay to FCT HHSS, pay annual license of your private facility to your regulatory council, pay your personal license, pay for your professional development etc. The worse is the local government people that extort money without carrying out the fumigation, or the certificate of fitness without doing anything or environmental that extort money without carrying out the waste. There has to be a way to regulate these multiple taxation in order to encourage small scale businesses.
