Nadingo: Good day sirs. Did a 250km trip with my wife's car, a 96/97 Honda Civic and I noticed a slight drop in the engine oil level. Car has been always used for city runnings only, and has never given any issues for more than a year now. It doesn't smoke. I also now hear a rattling noise underneath the car when car is idling but stops when I rev up even a little. Car is in excellent condition and I wouldn't want naija mechs to mess it up as it has been our live saver for school runs due to its fuel economy. Check that the oil strainer is not clogged, crankshaft main bearings aren't worn out excessively and also that the oil pump isnt pumping low pressure. If all these are fine, change oil and oil filter use a good quality filter and observe |

He has helped sorted me out twice there, so I reasoned he knows that's not what I personally drive, so shouldn't "look down on me". Apologies Oga Kingreign. Pls look into this reliable relic's issue before Kazeems send me to the cleaners. Pardon my cheeky comment, it was meant to be sarcastic. |

Roilley: Ok, thank you. My understanding is that maintenance is always done at the service centers. After the warranty expires, the dealership maintenance wil incure a huge cost. That said, quite a number of friends who's organizations purchased these cars as fleet for their operations later regretted because parts and also most are CVT and they kept having issues as they aged. In all, do not take my word for it, ensure you do due diligence and ask real life owners and you'd get your answers. |

flamesthehussle: okay, thank you for your advice
the thermostat was removed initially the fan turns on whenever I start the A.C before it was connected directly to ignition
for the radiator do I need to loose the radiator to check for it and also the water pump is there also a way of checking it?
also partaking to the water pump since the car only overheats when the A.C is turned on do u think it's still a culprit?
I'm thinking of leaving it till I'm fully prepared and take it to a better Auto workshop where scanning and proper checks will be done
or should I go to normal mechanic for the checks? Replace the thermostat, return fan to factory settings, check radiator, use good unit if its bad, visit a normal mechanic |

Meklex: yeah, that's the old radiator cap, I am currently using another one with good rubber seals. I wasn't able to check the water pump yesterday cos the mechanic said it's pointless since it didn't overheat again after driving for 30 minutes. I am currently using water so, leaks can't be detected, will change back to coolant once I go back to base. Very well then, keep an eye on the system. |

flamesthehussle: bro I'm having overheating issues on my Corolla 2009when the ac is on when driving , the electrician connected the fan directly to ignition before, the fan only comes on at a particular temperature mechanic checked and told me It's thermostat was removed I have driven it for 2yrs without overheating and just started recently
but now the same issues still persists, is it possible to reconnect it back to how it was and I'm planning on washing the condenser tomorrow I think it might be a clogged condenser Check your radiator, your water pump and your fan. Ensure the fan works when AC kicks in to draw air sufficiently to cool the system, ensure your radiator isn't blocked or damaged, ensure your water pump is fine. For good measure, check your ECT sensor to ensureit works. |
Car Talk › Re: Club-Lexus by kingreign(m): 7:01am On Dec 31, 2025 |
Meklex: finally took the car to a mechanic today and he removed the direct fan connection and connected it back to factory settings, he use his car scanner to check and the fan comes on once the car reaches 91°c, so he said the thermostat is still working, he then checked the radiator cap and said it's likely why it overheated. My old radiator cap is rated 1.0 but I wasn't able to find it in the market, but I was able to find 0.9 and 108kpa, I bought both for 3k but currently using the 108kpa cos chatgpt said it's closer to 1.0 rating.
Should I continue with the 108kpa? I drove it around for more than 30 minutes with the AC on and there was no overheating.
Here's a picture of the old radiator cap. Don't use this particular radiator cap, the rubber seal is broken and a chunk is missing. Even if a car is overheating, as long as its temperature rises to the ECU target temperature range, the ECU will command the radiator fans to activate. Ensure there are no air pockets/bubbles in your cooling system, no leaks of coolant from any joint or pipe and your water pump works fine. |

dollypi: Once youre travelling at 100kmph or below, you'll be fine, even if you hit a stationary truck. Hope you know you're extremely wrong? Most trucks do not have under ride safety crash protection systems or they are missing. A rear end collision even at 40km/h will most likely end in fatality because the hard high bed of that trailer will cut off the roof and pillar and crush skulls or decapitate passengers of the car as the car slides under that truck. It always ends in a gory sight.

MarkNsukkaBread: That vehicle could not have been travelling at just 60km/h!!! I used a hypothetical figure, and it could had been travelling at that speed when it crashed and considering that it crashed into a stationary object that is way more heavier, it could easily be damaged beyond recognition. Study physics to know better. |

MarkNsukkaBread: Any experienced driver who examines the position of the crash and the level of impact will tell you it happened due to over speeding and reckless overtaking! An armored SUV running 60km/h and slammed into a fully loaded stationary truck, which vehicle do you think will be written off? You should understand Newton's laws of motions particularly the 3rd one. I still disagree with your assertion, prove me wrong and prove yourself correct by our comments. |

How did they know it was overspeeding and wrongful overtaking that caused the accident? Did they capture the car with a speed camera or special telemetry device?

Allboiz: Same here
Sometimes during acceleration, it loses power and enters limp mode.
A little trick once this happens - park and restart the car or put the car on neutral while you restart and then drive to drive. The system resets itself and start accelerating.
Mine is showing error code p0121 throttle position sensor/pedal position sensor.
I'll check it out tomorrow using a rewire Replace throttle pedal and/or throttle body. |

Meklex: Hi, guys, while traveling home for Christmas 3 days ago, I noticed that my temperature gauge was high, and water spilled from the reservoir onto my side mirror. I parked and opened the bonnet, and the reservoir was vibrating excessively. No spills from the radiator. I left it to cool down for 30 minutes and started it again, and the temp gauge went back to the middle. I drove it for 5 minutes, and it went back up. I found an auto electrician, and he said the fan has low pressure and suggested that I connect it directly, which he did. I was able to continue my journey without any overheating issues.
Now, my question is, should I continue using the car like that? What should I do differently? I bought the car 3 years ago, foreign used, and everything is still intact.
The car model is ES 300, 2003. Find the underlying issue and correct it, do NOT use your fan connected permanently. |
Family › Re: Interfaith Marriage Crisis: Family Pressure And Wedding Options by kingreign(m): 11:07am On Dec 27, 2025 |
olayinkabank: Please Nairalanders, I need your sincere advice. I am confused. I have been a member of this great platform since 2010 when I was in secondary school (SS2), but this is the first time I am seeking advice here. I was quite active and popular on the platform from 2010 to 2014, especially in the sports, politics, and education sections though I just created this new account today. I am currently engaged to a lady. We have done the introduction—both families have met, and we have collected the marriage list. The wedding is planned for late March next year. My fiancée is a Christian and from the Igbira tribe, although she understands Yoruba more than Igbira. All her siblings are married to Yoruba spouses. I am a Yoruba man and a Muslim by background. Initially, her family strongly objected to the marriage because of religious differences. However, after much persuasion—and after my fiancée threatened to harm herself if she was not allowed to marry me—her extended family members who are Muslims intervened, and the family reluctantly agreed. On my own side, my mother also objected at first. She dislikes my fiancée because there are rumors that her elder sister did money ritual. After much pleading, my mother later accepted the marriage. For context, my fiancée’s parents were originally Muslims but converted to Christianity before they died. The main issue now is that my fiancée’s siblings, especially the elder ones, are insisting that we must do either a church wedding or a court wedding. They say a traditional wedding alone is not acceptable. As for me, I work with a financial institution and was converted to professional staff last year. I also run a football viewing center and a betting shop. My fiancée just finished her tailoring apprenticeship (freedom). She is a graduate but currently unemployed, and I am planning to open a tailoring shop for her. Because I am the one providing almost everything financially, I feel a court wedding may not favor me in the long run. At the same time, my parents will never accept a church wedding, especially since my father is the head of a local Asalatu group. Please note: I am not a religious person. I consider myself agnostic—I believe in a Supreme Being but not in Christianity or Islam. However, neither my family nor my fiancée knows this, because they would likely see me as evil or someone possessed. My fiancée has agreed to convert to Islam after the wedding, which makes my family happy. Personally, I don’t really care about that because I believe more in humanity than religion. Now I am confused and stuck between: Her family insisting on church or court wedding My parents rejecting church wedding My own fears about court marriage Religious pressure from both sides Please, I need honest and mature advice from Nairalanders. What is the best way forward in this situation? especially to those who have done interfaith wedding before or in an interfaith relationship? From your write-up, I can sense alot of selfish reasons behind it. For that lady's own good, let her be, marry from your faith, marry someone else whom you feel is free to allow you marry other wives and perform your religious activities as desired. Do not cage her. |

Please kindly advise, A corolla 05 doesn't hold when started, if it starts it goes off while trotting, .. The spark coil was changed.. Then it starts fine and holds . Here comes another issue
1. Doesn't accelerate well, which affects speeding up while accelerating.. It doesn't speed up..
2. Also, gear oil leakage was noticed, it was checked, then oil seal was changed, but afterwards notice a jerk when gear is shift to reverse or drive..
Note : it has been scanned, scanner not reading anything, Fix the scanner no communicating issue, my bet is on the throttle body. It may have failed. |
