@POLITICSNGR Governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha has called on the general public to stop associating Fulanis with Killer Herdsmen. Okorocha on Sunday said that it would be wrong for anyone to link the Fulanis to the killings by herdsmen in the country. PoliticsNGR gathered that he defended the Fulanis while addressing members of the Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim led by its supreme head, Solomon Alao, during a courtesy visit to the government house, Owerri. Speaking on whether the Imo State Government has created a cattle colony, proposed by the Federal Government, Okorocha, said there was a cattle market in the state and not a cattle colony, stating that the state government encouraged indigenes to go into cattle business because it was lucrative and that government would continue to support them with provision of ranches. The governor also said it was absolutely wrong to link the Fulanis with the killer-herdsmen, pointing out that the herdsmen who kill should be treated as criminals, and should not be used to stigmatize the Fulanis, whose men and women had largely contributed to nation-building. “The fact remains that no one in this country has the right to take another person’s life in whatever disguise. For herdsmen to kill anybody is not right and that must be condemned,” he said. https://politicsngr.com/stop-associating-fulanis-killer-herdsmen-rochas-okorocha/

@POLITICSNGR The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has reacted to a report that went viral a few days ago that a snake swallowed N36 million belonging to the board. In a statement by its spokesperson, Franklin Benjamin, the Board said it was a pure case of criminality and fraud by one of its Staff. It was earlier reported by an online news platform that a mystery snake was said to have sneaked into the accounts office of the board in Markurdi, Benue state and swallowed N36 million cash belonging JAMB. This development occurred when a team of auditors dispatched by JAMB to take inventory of sold and unsold scratch cards and recover any funds generated or embezzled during sales periods. JAMB candidates usually purchase scratch cards to gain access to the Board’s website for either registration or for checking their admission status but that has been stopped by the registrar, Ishaq Oloyede. The report read; “A sales clerk, Philomina Chieshe, told JAMB registrar and his team that she could not account for N36 million she made in previous years before the abolition of scratch cards. In the course of interrogation, Philomena denied the allegations that she stole the money but confessed that her housemaid connived with another JAMB staff, Joan Asen, to “spiritually” (through a snake) steal the money from the vault in the account office”. Speaking on the fraud, Benjamin said; “It is natural for the office to account for what they have after the sale of scratch cards has been stopped and we discovered that lots of money was missing in Markurdi and other offices. There are procedures in the civil service so the whole thing is still under investigation. She was queried, she appeared before disciplinary committee, although she confessed that money was missing and a snake swallowed it. Unfortunately, she is calling one Joan’s name which did not appear in the investigation at all. Joan only recommended a house help for her. Of course, the management did not believe the story. She is just trying to put an excuse forward. These are things the registrar is trying to unravel to put the board on the right footing. We had a case where one of the staff said he had an accident on his way and the scratch cards got burnt but only for us to discover that they were used because they all had serial numbers." https://politicsngr.com/jamb-reacts-snake-swallowing-n36-million-report/

@POLITICSNGR Head of INRI spiritual and Evangelical Church, Oke-Afa, Isolo, Lagos, Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to step down for Senate president, Bukola Saraki to become president in 2019. Ayodele disclosed to newsmen that Buhari should Saraki to become the next president adding that Saraki has what it takes to continue the 'good job' he has been doing. He said; "The President as a good-hearted leader should step down for Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to face whoever would emerge as opposition in the 2019 general election. “Buhari should step down for Saraki so that his second term will not come with more dangerous challenges for Nigeria. Bukola Saraki has all that it takes to turn Nigeria around from where Buhari will stop. That is what I have seen and the Lord does not lie. There is no difference in what I said then and what I have just seen now. I had seen and said that Buhari’s second term was dicey and that it would come with challenges but that he, however, would win if APC presented him as a candidate for 2019." https://politicsngr.com/2019-election-watch-buhari-must-step-saraki-primate-ayodele/

@POLITICSNGR Former leader, Goodluck Jonathan has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to implement the 2015 National Confab report, adding that it was the key to solving the many challenges plaguing the country. Speaking to Governor Seriake Dickson who led a delegation to brief the ex-president on work being done by a committee set up by Ijaw leaders on restructuring, at his residence in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, Jonathan pointed out that many of the current issues which fall under the purview of the committee were exhaustively treated during the 2014 National Conference which when sincerely implemented would douse tension in the polity. He said it was a good idea that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was able to set up a committee to look into the same grey areas which featured prominently in the deliberations of the 2014 Conference. It will be recalled that in the first quarter of 2014, Jonathan inaugurated a 492-member body headed by Justice Idris Kutigi, which after about four months, submitted its report on which the majority agreed on several issues affecting the country. Once queried on why he did not implement the report, Jonathan disclosed that the time when the report was turned in and the 2015 election was too short to do execute anything. He said; “I am pleased with the calibre of people who came with the governor to brief me on the issue of the recommendations of the APC Committee on restructuring. I must say that I am happy with the role being played by the governor on this issue of restructuring. Ethnic nationalities must not speak with discordant tunes on such pertinent issues. I am pleased that Dickson is coordinating the Ijaw nation. I am also pleased that the APC set up a committee to look into the grey areas to come up with these recommendations. When we were in government, we came up with a confab and several issues were addressed which if sincerely implemented would encourage relationship in the country. A sincere implementation of the recommendations on these grey areas will make the country to move forward". https://politicsngr.com/restructuring-implement-confab-report-now-jonathan-advises-buhari/

@POLITICSNGR Senior Lawyers, Itse Sagay and Festus Keyamo have weighed in on a recent court judgment regarding Ibrahim Magu's status as the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC). On Thursday, a federal high court in Abuja presided over by Justice T. Tsoho ruled that the Nigerian Senate acted in accordance with the law when it screened and rejected Ibrahim Magu's nomination as chairman of the EFCC. Reacting to the development, Keyamo said; “The fact that the law has not circumscribed the amount of time or the time period that someone can act as the head of an agency, it would mean therefore that I see no legal problem at all in Ibrahim Magu continuing to act as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, there is no legal impediment at all.” Sagay, who is also the chairman of PACAC, said; "I don’t expect that the judgment will have an effect on Ibrahim Magu’s status as Acting EFCC Chairman. I don’t expect that there’s anything externally that is going to affect Magu’s position. "I don’t know whether the judge considered Section 171 of the Constitution which even allows the President to appoint heads of agencies like Magu’s agency without any reference to the Senate. That is already there, so I don’t know what was brought to the court’s attention. When we see the full judgment we will be able to express our opinion,". https://politicsngr.com/court-judgement-wont-affect-magu-sagay-keyamo/

@POLITICSNGR Nigeria's minister for Power, Works, and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has cried out that the frequent probes by the House of Representatives on issues affecting the Ministry are distracting him. On Wednesday, Fashola vented his frustration to the assembly while facing an investigative hearing on the transmission company of Nigeria(TCN) organized by the House representatives committee on power. “We closed here last week and we are resuming this week with this committee. Committees of the House also will be asking us of our budget performance and we just need to work in the office so that we can also perform. So, I think there’s a sense here that I respectfully ask you to sufficiently use this time so we can also work to serve the Nigerian people. We have a letter dated December 20, 2017, and that letter was issued under the name of one Nnamdi D. Onuigwe Esqr, Committee Clerk. And, it’s from the House of Representatives, saying the House has constituted an ad hoc committee on the need to investigate the Fiscal Responsibility and Procurement Acts by the TCN. It was pursuant to House resolution 114/ADHOT/TCN2 of December 20." Now, we were waiting to be invited by the ad hoc committee when we got this letter asking us to come today, signed by Ibrahim Sidi, Committee Clerk pursuant to House resolution 189 of December 5, 2017. Although, it’s headed as “Need To facilitate Swift action on management of TCN Electric Power Reforms, it goes in the body to ask us to come and explain to this investigative committee the interim management of TCN on the delay in the implementation of projects such as the Nigerian Electricity Gas Improvement project that will improve power sector in Nigeria. So, I seek clarification in order to assist the committee in its work and if it’s possible, to harmonize all of what we want to do together, bearing in mind that this House substantially is handling some possibly over-lapping issues." https://politicsngr.com/frequent-probes-distracting-fashola-cries/

@POLITICSNGR Farmers, Miyetti Allah and Traditional Rulers in Imo state have signed an agreement in Imo state that the owners of farms destroyed by Herdsmen will be duly compensated. The pact was signed at a meeting held at the Imo state Police command on Monday. The meeting was fruitful as it was also agreed that there would be compensation for herdsmen if any cattle was killed. The Imo state commissioner of police, Ezike Chris presided over the meeting. Giving remarks, He said; "We have agreed that our mechanism at the local government level comprises of the chairman of the constitution committee, the DPO, officer in charge of SSS, traditional rulers, representatives of the farmers and herders. That the committee should be strengthened in the twenty-seven local government areas in the state so that they will be able to receive reports of incidents and try to solve those problems. That the police and other security agencies should redouble their efforts in identifying these herders of unknown origin who operate especially around Okigwe area, find out whether they are coming in from Abia or Enugu. To ensure that criminal offenses are committed that they dealt with according to the law. We also agreed that the issue of justice and fair play will always come into being. The cattle is not a person. Cattle is an animal and it must always be an animal. In case cattle strays into farms and destroys farms the committees at the local level must ensure justice is done through appropriate competition. If farmers or any other person go to kill cattle, the committee should also look into it and ensure that justice is done, the moment justice is done to both wings there will be peace in the area. Ohaji/Egbema was mentioned to be a safe haven for herders. Incidentally, the area has been carved out as a new area command." Chairman of Miyetti Allah, Audi Diko also tendered an apology to farmers in the state over the destruction of their farms by Herdsmen. https://politicsngr.com/fulani-herdsmen-farmers-sign-peace-agreementdetails/

Wakili, a retired customs officer and chairman of the Senate committee on poverty alleviation, made this statement on Thursday. @POLITICSNGR Senator Dino Melaye has revealed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC is operating an illegal dollar account with Keystone Bank containing a sum of $137 million. Melaye, who is the chairman of the Senate committee on FCT made the allegation on Tuesday. He raised a point of order saying that Brass LNG Ltd., Joint Venture Company(JVC) account was domiciled in Keystone bank instead of the Central bank of Nigeria, CBN as required by Law. He said; "While some individuals and government appointees will continue to steal, we have decided to continue to expose corruption in public life. This morning, I call the attention of the Nigerian Senate to a suspected, colossal, monumental corruption in NNPC. A company was registered with the name ‘Brass LNG Limited’ with the Federal Government having controlling shares. We have some Italians, Belgians, and French as shareholders, with the Federal Government with a controlling share of about 50 percent. It is a known fact that once you have a joint venture, the account of such joint venture will be domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria. But in this case, that was not what happened. In private, the account was opened with Keystone Bank; this account has no BVN and there has been periodic withdrawals. The last withdrawal from the account was to the tune of $4m. As I speak to you, the balance of that account as of today is $137m," he said. https://politicsngr.com/nnpc-operates-illegal-dollar-account-containing-137-million-dino-melaye/ cc: lalasticlala, mynd44

@POLITICSNGR Convener of the Bring Back Our girls group, BBOG, Aisha Yesufu has listed various ways she believes President Muhammadu Buhari's administration encourages corruption. On Tuesday, Aisha attacked President Buhari over the appointment of the new Director-General of National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, who allegedly failed his promotional exams. In a series of tweets, She lampooned the president for dining with APC chieftains in the presidential villa. She wrote; “And some would say President Muhammadu Buhari @MBuhari is not corrupt. “Corruption is appointing NIA DG, a man who failed promotion exam twice to be in a committee to review it’s operation “Corruption is lack of transparency in how a company fined a huge fine gets a massive reduction *Nepotic hiring, appointment and award of contracts * Aiding and abetting those accused of corruption * Dining with people facing corruption charges at PRIVATE dinner “Corruption is taking a share from those who stole, refusing to prosecute one found stealing & having him around * Appointing one who failed promotion exam to head the agency, Hire illegally through the backdoor. “Corruption is also Trucks of food to IDPs stolen and nothing done about it * Finding over $40m in an apartment belonging to head of an agency and that head secured by security agencies * Finding huge sum of money at an airport and nothing heard further. * Not knowing how much has been recovered by whom and from whom. https://politicsngr.com/buharis-administration-promotes-corruption-aisha-opens/

@POLITICSNGR Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom has declared his readiness to face Cattle Rearers who have taken him to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague. Ortom said he was ready to challenge cattle breeders association, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore at the ICC after the organization dragged him to the apex court for implementing the anti-grazing law. He made the revelation at a stakeholders' meeting at the Benue Peoples' House in Makurdi on Monday. "I heard that they have taken us to the International Criminal Court (ICC). Who is the criminal in this case? I am ready to meet them there. We will work together and succeed for the sake of posterity. I will not stop until justice is done to Benue people," he stressed. A former leader of the Northern Elders Forum, Paul Unongo, said the Benue people could not submit themselves to be slaughtered as chickens, urging them to rise up and defend themselves. He maintained that President Muhammadu Buhari must come to the state and condole with the people, as people normally do to the bereaved. @POLITICSNGR A former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido has revealed what he will do for the country if he wins the Presidential elections in 2019. Speaking in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state, where he led his campaign team on a courtesy visit to Governor Umahi, the seasoned politician also pointed out that he was not desperate to become the country's leader. "I will administer a new direction for Nigeria if nominated because I aspire to unite Nigerians and make the country prosperous and secure. I believe that I am qualified to win the party’s nomination because I am a party man by history and character with the party giving me everything I am in life. The party discovered me from my obscure village in Jigawa, made me its state chairman and after I lost initial bids to become the state governor, made me Nigeria’s foreign affairs minister during a period of its pariah status. The party further made me the state governor and I want to presently pay it and the country back with selfless service that would unite, reconcile and prosper the citizens. We are around nine aspirants jostling for the position presently but the emphasis should be on the nomination of the best man that would be seen as the country’s torch bearer. The party is looking upon its governors for direction and as the convention to pick its candidate approaches, it should concentrate on reclaiming the confidence reposed in it by Nigerians,". Lamido also attacked former members of the PDP who decamped to the APC; "The decampees who include former governors, ministers, legislators among others, are those who were hitherto unknown until the party gave them the platform to be known in the country. The loss of the 2015 elections was bitter because members from the northern part of country were seen as infidels with some flogged, their houses burnt including my office," https://politicsngr.com/2019-will-become-president-sule-lamido/

@POLITICSNGR The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Border Command, intercepted 2,200 jerry cans of smuggled of petrol with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) worth over N10 million between Dec. 1, 2017 and date. The Area Controller, Comptroller Mohammed Aliyu, disclosed this on Monday through the command’s Chief Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Taupyen Selchang. The controller in a statement by the PRO said that most of the seizures were made at Pashi-Yekeme Community in Owode and the creeks. PoliticsNGR reports that the total volume of PMS intercepted was 55,000 litres (2,200 x 25 litres). Aliyu said that the command was determined to combat the smuggling of petroleum products usually done by the smugglers using jerry cans and passing through the creeks and illegal routes. He said that they were not banning the use of trucks to transport the products to the communities along the border where they were legitimately meant to serve as was being wrongly and widely speculated by some people. The controller explained that smuggling of petrol in jerry cans had been a recurring decimal which operatives of the NCS had always tried to suppress. “This has been our modest contribution toward ameliorating the sufferings of Nigerians caused by the current shortage of the product,’’ he said. Aliyu said that the command had always and would continue to enforce her statutory mandate of revenue generation, suppression of smuggling and facilitation of legitimate trade. He said the command would also continue to protect the international land border against illicit smuggling and trafficking of small and light weapons across the border along the West African sub-region. Aliyu said that the NCS operational norms did not allow trucks of petroleum products to cross the Nigerian territory either through the Seme main border or its Owode-Apa Outstation. He said that the Owode-Apa Outstation was synonymous to every approved border post manned by all relevant government security agencies (NCS, Police, Immigration, Air Force, Navy, DSS, SON, NAFDAC, Quarantine, Civil Defence, among others). “This is because all loaded trucks with petroleum products meant for Seme axis are strictly monitored and documents provided are carefully scrutinised in order to avoid diversion. “It is also to equally ensure that the products meant for the axis are actually discharged strictly at the approved filling stations along Seme main border or Owode-Apa border communities,’’ the controller said. Aliyu said that officers of the anti-bunkering unit were always assigned to escort all loaded incoming trucks to ensure strict compliance in discharging the products to the approved filling stations in the border communities. “The surveillance becomes inevitable because Nigerians who reside along the borders have the right to be served with the product for their local economic activities,’’ he said. The controller said that officers of the command would continue to patrol every nook and cranny of the border to ensure that the products were discharged to where they were legitimately meant for. He said that officers of the command would continue to apprehend individuals who might attempt to smuggle the product out through the creeks or the illegal routes at night and seize the products. The controller said that the present leadership of the NCS led by Retired Col. @POLITICSNGR An Abuja based media firm, Image Merchants Promotion Limited and its promoter, Mallam Yushau Shuaib have slammed a N200million suit against Access Bank Plc over an alleged unlawful freezing of their four different accounts with the bank in the past two years. The bank was dragged before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja by the two plaintiffs who are demanding the damages for the hardships inflicted on them by the Bank due to the freeze. In the suit with No. FCT/HC/CV/0657/2018 filed on their behalf by Yunus Abdulsalam, the plaintiffs are praying the Court to declare that freezing of their account by the bank as unlawful and a clear breach of the duty of care owed them by the bank. They are also praying for an order of the Court directing the bank to unfreeze their Private, Salary, Operational and Domiciliary Accounts of the Company and its Promoter with Access Bank Plc. The award-winning media outfit and its promoter are the publishers of Economic Confidential Magazine and PRNigeria, a public relations firm. They claimed that they have tried to no avail with the bank to unfreeze their accounts which met brick walls each time and later metamorphosed to their solicitors writing the final letter to the bank. In the suit, Shuaib says that the inexplicable freezing of his account has kept him struggling to meet up with his responsibilities as the breadwinner of his family thereby putting his four children, wife and aged parents into a state of avoidable hardship. The company stated that bank’s action made its businesses suffer the following catastrophic developments: “Over 20 employees and volunteers in the payroll resigned their employment because of the inability of the company to access its salary account for the purpose of paying monthly salary. “The company has also lost patronage as it can no longer advise clients to pay into the operational accounts knowing fully well no withdrawal could be made to execute the job of its clients.” In addition, the media outfit says that the freezing of its Domiciliary Account prevented its financial obligations to foreign partners, subscriptions to products, services and professional membership fees. It also added that for the first time since inception, the company’s monthly print edition of the Economic Confidential Magazine could not see the light of the day. Their solicitors had written a letter dated 21st December 2017 and addressed to the Branch Manager, Access Bank Plc, Plot 1244, Samuel Ladoke Akintola Boulevard, Garki 2, Abuja, and received same day, the bank was informed that failure to unfreeze their accounts within seven days will resort to court action as there has been no official explanation by the bank. The plaintiffs further claimed that since “the absence of their clients from the public service, Mallam Yushau Shuaib has been the alter ego of Image Merchants Promotions Ltd- the publisher of the widely read Economic Confidential Magazine and whose subsidiary is a leading and multi-international award-winning PR firm, PRNigeria. They claimed that from the record of accounts in question, it was clear that the firm has been carrying out legitimate business of PR consultancy with a vast clientele base especially from the security and financial sectors of the Nigerian economy. Plaintiffs claimed that they asked for an explanation from their mutual account officer as to the lawful justification upon which their accounts were frozen by the bank and that the response was rather evasive, opaque and vague. Therefore, the Plaintiffs applied for an order of the Court in directing the defendant to unfreeze the four accounts and also sought for an order of the Court in awarding the sum of N200m only being general and exemplary damages against the bank for unlawful freezing of their account and breach of duty of care owed to them by the bank. In addition, the plaintiffs demanded another sum of N1million against the bank being the cost of the suit. They also sought payment of 10% of the judgment sum from the date of delivery of judgment until the entire sum is liquidated. No date has yet been fixed for the hearing. https://politicsngr.com/unlawful-freezing-abuja-firm-slams-n200-million-lawsuit-access-bank/ cc: lalasticlala, mynd44 |

He encouraged youths to participate in the electoral process adding that 'Millenials are Protagonists'. He advised them to go and get their Permanent voters Card(PVC) rather 'loafing around'. “I hear young people ask why would they spend hours queuing and casting their votes when, at the end, their votes won’t count. I tell them that if when parents conceived them, they never gave up on them considering the high mortality rate; so why would they not take a chance in building this nation? “We had young leadership at one stage or the other. Even in our first republic, besides the likes of Awolowo and Tafawa Balewa, M. T. Mbu was in his 20s when he became a minister. “Gowon was 30 when he became the head of state. It comes back to the disaster, therein, because most of them didn’t have experience in governance, which led us into civil war. We need the combination of both." https://politicsngr.com/will-contest-president-2019-unless-donald-duke/ cc: lalasticlala, mynd44
