PoliticsNorth Central Governors Endorse Buhari For 2019 by kirajustice(op): 8:29am On Nov 22, 2017
@POLITICSNGR

Governors in the Northcentral region of Nigeria have called on president Muhammadu Buhari to contest in the upcoming 2019 presidential elections.

PoliticsNGR learnt that governors Samuel Ortom of Benue, Simon Lalong of Plateau, and Tanko Al-makura or Nassarawa states respectively have announced their support for the president's 2019 ambition.

The decision was made at the Northcentral meeting of the national committee of Buhari support groups in Abuja. A motion was raised by the ex-governor of Benua, Senator George Akume which was seconded by all the APC supporters at the meeting.

Akume in his speech pointed out that 4 years was too small for leaders to record lasting milestones.

“For 2019, there is no credible presidential candidate for the APC other than Buhari,”

Lalong, on the other hand, said that major stakeholders in his state had already moved a motion to compel the President to seek re-election.

@POLITICSNGR

Hearing of a case of illegal acquisition of wealth and money laundering to the tune of N1.1billion involving Shamsudeen Bala-Mohammed, a son of a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed got underway on Thursday, November 9, 2017 with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, presenting its first witness, Ishaya Dauda, before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja.

The ex-minister's son among other things allegedly involved in cash payments above statutory limit for the construction and purchase of properties in various parts of Abuja.

He allegedly paid various cash sums of money beyond the limit set by the Money Laundering Act for the purchase of houses without going through a financial institution.

Dauda, an operative of the EFCC, while being led in evidence by the Ben Ikani gave a blow-by-blow account of how Samsudeen paid a cumulative sum of N1.1billion to buy different properties in choice areas of Abuja, using names of different companies.

According to the PW1, “the Commission stumbled on the various offences committed by Shamsudeen in the course of investigating his father, Mohammed”.

The witness also revealed how the sums of N580,000 and $60,000 were recovered from Shamsudeen’s residence during execution of a search warrant.

“I know the defendant. In the course of investigating a case assigned to me against the former FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, we received an additional intelligence concerning purchases of properties by the defendant within the FCT.

“The companies are Diakin Telecommunications Ltd., Balbac Minning Nigeria Ltd., and Intertrans Logistics Global Nigeria Ltd.

“We extended our investigation to the Corporate Affairs Commission. We confirmed that the companies were registered with the CAC.

“We invited the lawyers that registered these companies by name Ishiaku Shuaibu, who confirmed that he registered those companies.

“Our investigation was extended to Abuja Investments Development Company, where the General Manager, Dr. Musa Musa, and the company secretary, Salisu Abdusalam, were invited to our office.

“Their statements were taken concerning the purchase of properties by the defendant using Diakin Telecommunications Ltd., and Balbac Minning Nigeria Ltd., which they confirmed.

“They said he brought cash to their office. He bought the properties from the Abuja Development Investments Company. The properties are located in Apo Area of Abuja.

“Another property that was purchased by the defendant is at 7, Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja. He brought cash in company with a lady by name, Maimuna Aliyu Sanda.

“Together they took this cash to the developer, by name, Farouk Saleh. The cash was in dollars, they told me. But the worth of the property was N210m.

“Another property was purchased at Sunrise Hill, Asokoro. The defendant made lodgment of N80million to the then managing director of the company. The MD, Sami Apougaoude, a Lebanese is late now. Then the defendant contacted a company, K & K Construction Company, to build the said property.

“He again made a cash lodgment of N100million to Sunrise Hill in error which was then transferred to K&K Construction Company into their Zenith Bank account. He then made a cash lodgment of N110million to K&K directly.
“Again, he made a lodgment of N200million to K&K Construction Company.

“All these lodgments were made in the name of the Birtrus Agro Allied Limited.

“The last time he made lodgment to K&K Construction company was N296million”, Dauda stated.

The statements made by the defendant and the asset declaration form completed by him were tendered and admitted as exhibits as Chris Uche, SAN, representing the defendant raised no objection to the admissibility of the documents.

Further hearing has been adjourned to December 11, 2017.

B. Mohammed of the Federal Capital Territory High Court Abuja, on a 4-count charge of criminal conspiracy and illegal diversion of food meant for Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.

Politics"Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB Contracted To Destroy Igbos" - Lauretta Onochie by kirajustice(op): 11:31am On Nov 10, 2017
@POLITICSNGR

President Muhammadu Buhari's aide on social media, Lauretta Onochie has said Pro-secession group, the Indigenous people of Biafra(IPOB) and its leader, Nnamdi Kanu were 'contracted' to destroy the hard work of the Igbos.

Onochie, in a Facebook post, also reacted to the endorsement of president Buhari for Second term by Ebonyi state governor and member of opposition party, PDP, Engr. Dave Umahi. The outspoken woman wrote;

"The Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, has led the people of his state to key into the policies of the Buhari Administration.

It’s an open secret that Ndigbo are very hard-working. The application of their hard work has continued to make millionaires especially in agriculture and manufacturing, a success story IPOB was contracted to drown.

Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State has experienced first hand, the fairness and the fatherly disposition President Muhammadu Buhari extends to all governors, irrespective of party affiliations.

He is one of the governors who will not play dirty politics with the future of the people of his state, neither will he have a former president, whose hands are soiled with corruption, to commission projects meant for the good people of Ebonyi State."

Politics$350 Million Fraud: Fashola Reacts To Senate Allegations, Replies Dino Melaye by kirajustice(op): 8:19am On Nov 10, 2017
@POLITICSNGR

Minister for works, power and housing, Babatunde Fashola has responded to reports of financial mismanagement levelled against him by the Senate.

Kogi west Senator, Dino Melaye had alleged that the power ministry under Fashola's watch, diverted $35 million to the Afam fast power project with approval from the national assembly adding that $350 million from a $1 billion Eurobond deal has also been spent by the ministry.

In a statement obtained by PoliticsNGR, titled " Before perception becomes reality', Fashola clarifies the issues. The statement read;

"I feel compelled to make this Statement in response to allegations bordering on financial impropriety raised on the Floor of the Senate against the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, my Office as Minister, the staff of the Ministry and by extension my person.

The sum and substance of the allegations to which the Ministry will provide full, factual and detailed response when formally invited are that:

1. An amount in the region of $350million being part of a $1billion Eurobond facility taken in 2013 has gone missing or has been diverted.

2. That the Ministry, had procured a contract for Afam Fast Power and paid $26million or thereabout for it.

With all emphasis, I state that there is no factual basis for the allegations.

The Ministry, my staff and I have done nothing wrong and we will collaborate fully with the Investigating Committee when called upon.

For now, it suffices for members of the public to note that I wasn’t a Minister in 2013, and that when Government raises a Debt like the Eurobond, it is the Debt Management Office that manages the Debt and not the Ministry.

The Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) had on Monday, 6th November 2017 issued a Statement on the Front Page of The Nation Newspaper explaining that the money was not missing, stating also that the $350 million had been invested and that interest had even accrued on the money.

If there was no ulterior motive for the allegation, this was enough reason for a reconsideration of the presentation of the Motion on the Floor of the Senate on the 8th of November 2017.

But the story seemed to have changed from “missing money” last week, to a “desperate attempt to retrieve the money “, this week.

As for the Afam Fast Power, the sum and substance of it is that , it was an investment by the General Electric, a globally reputed Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), to invest in our country and support our effort to get good quick power under our Roadmap of Incremental, Steady and Uninterrupted power.

They offered to do this by providing Nigeria with mobile turbines of 600MW if we could find a location with Gas and Transmission evacuation infrastructure. The Afam Power Station fitted because it had transmission and evacuation facilities but all its turbines had been virtually run down.

The investment was contingent on paying $27,990,000 million which was 15% of 8 (eight) units of 30MW turbines each totaling 240MW valued at about $186,600,000:00.

This payment of $27.9m was made without breaching any law.

At this moment, the turbines have arrived Nigeria and currently at the Onne Port. This is verifiable just as works are on going on the site – civil and engineering – preparing to receive the turbines and install other equipment already at site.

All of these are verifiable by all well-meaning Nigerians who may want to undertake the inspection. We expect that the project will be commissioned soon enough to add 240MW to the Grid.

This will be one of the fastest power projects when delivered, compared to inherited power projects before this Administration.

Investors to the best of my knowledge do not require Parliamentary approval to invest in our Country.

All of these facts could have been easily verifiable by a simple letter from the Senator to the Ministry without the furore and suggestions of wrong doing and malfeasance.

We must be careful about what we say and do with regards to investments and investors which we clearly need in all sectors of our developmental life and in particular in infrastructure and power.

Unverified allegations such as the ones under discussion constitute an imminent threat to our investment climate.

For the avoidance of doubt, there has been no wrongdoing whatsoever."

PoliticsIslamization: CAN Is Manifesting Symptoms Of 'orubebemantis' - MURIC by kirajustice(op):
@POLITICSNGR

The Muslim Rights Concern group(MURIC) has reacted to demands by the Christian Organization of Nigeria(CAN) for the national assembly to publish a list of all organizations Nigeria belong to, with a view of dropping the religious ones.

In a statement made available to PoliticsNGR, signed by the leader of the group, Professor Ishaq Akintola, MURIC says that CAN is suffering from symptoms of 'Orubebemantis'. The statement read;

"The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) is not a little amused by CAN’s latest demands. CAN is hallucinating. It is laughable, untenable, kindergarten and quixotic. This is reminiscent of the eponymous hero of Don Quixote de la Mancha. CAN is manifesting symptoms of orubebemantis.

Orubebemantis is a new virus which compels the victim to hallucinate endlessly, forces him to see only a particular vision earlier set for himself but which fails to materialise and prevents him from recognizing or accepting the reality on ground.

CAN wants Northern states to issue certificates of occupancy (C of Os) to churches in the North whereas South East and South South governments demolish mosques in their states, refuse to grant Muslims C of Os and infringe constantly on Allah-given fundamental human rights of Muslim minorities in their midst. For instance, a tertiary institution in the South East has demolished the only mosque on the campus and refused to allow the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) to operate.

MURIC warns the National Assembly (NASS) to ignore CAN’s call for its intervention. An anti-Muslim National Assembly will shoot itself in the foot sooner than later. Nonetheless, should the NASS show any interest in CAN’s demand, it should beam its floodlight on all Western oriented international organizations like the United Nations (UN) as they have always been used as tools in the hands of Western crusaders while their religious bias is always hidden.

MURIC, therefore, accepts CAN’s demands with the proviso that:

1. Nigeria should withdraw from all Western-oriented international organizations like the UN and WHO;

2. National Assembly should study Nigerian work-free days with a view to dropping the religious ones like Sunday and Saturday (Saturday is also used by the Seventh Day Adventists) and

3. Nigeria should also drop all Christian landmarks like the cross as sign in hospitals, academic gowns in tertiary institutions, wigs and gowns used by lawyers and judges, etc.

The leaders of CAN have consistently displayed lack of readiness to coexist with Nigerian Muslims. They want the country only for themselves alone. They have refused to listen to the voice of reason. The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, himself a pastor, told CAN that the allegation of Islamisation is an illusion. CAN refused to listen. Femi Falana asked CAN to Christianise Nigeria instead of alleging Islamisation everyday but CAN will not listen.

Who says Nigeria is not Christianised? What system have we been forced to use since the advent of the colonial master to date? What is the religion of our colonial master whose system we have adopted hook, line and sinker? Why are Muslims being forced to write examinations during Jumat service on Fridays? Why are Muslims at the mercy of their employers every Friday? Is it not because Friday is not a work-free day like Sunday? Muslims have been tolerating all these for so long. Let us start working on Sundays and Fridays for a change and see if CAN will find it funny.

In conclusion, MURIC calls for a Nigeria that does not lean towards any religion in any aspect of its life. Enough of this hypocrisy. Those who Christianised Nigeria are the ones shouting the loudest about Islamisation. It is time for CAN to have a taste of its own pudding."

PoliticsI Have Never Told A Lie - Lai Mohammed by kirajustice(op): 8:51am On Nov 09, 2017
Nigeria' minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has said that he has never lied before. Speaking to Journalists at an interactive session in Lagos, Mohammed challenged those calling him a 'liar' to come forward with concrete facts to dispute whatever he has said before.

In his words; "I have two burdens. The first is that I happen to be the face of the opposition, and PDP has not forgiven me, and I do not think they will ever forgive me.

I think they look at the magnitude of what has happened to them, and they hold me solely responsible; which is not fair.

But, I did my bit. Now becoming the face of government again, it is automatic to them that whatever comes from Lai Mohammed, we must shoot it down as fake news and a lie

Incidentally, my father gave me the name Lai, also. So, it makes it very easy for them to make me a liar. But what I challenge them every time is, please, give me one thing I said that is not true. I have never told lies before.

Emotionally, you may not agree with me, but in terms of facts and figures, I have never said anything that they can be disputed. You do not have to like it, but you cannot deny that they are facts."

PoliticsRivers Governor Nyesom Wike To Speak At Chatham House by kirajustice(op): 2:39pm On Nov 05, 2017
The significance of Rivers State in international affairs will be highlighted once again on Monday, November 6, 2017 as Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike addresses the globe during an engagement at the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) in London.

Governor Wike who will be speaking on: "Defining Development for Rivers State and Steps to Sustainable Implementation" is expected to field questions from a cross-section of participants which include: Policy makers, international journalists, business men and development experts.

The governor who is rated as Nigeria's Best Performing Governor will bring to the table, issues of development as they relate to Rivers State and how he has surmounted the challenges of economic downturn and political hostilities.

A forthright and courageous governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike will outline the areas of expected collaboration between the international community and political stakeholders in Nigeria for the strengthening of the nation's democracy.

Reputed to be Nigeria's Political Conscience, Governor Wike will interface with participants on key areas that would help to foster growth in other developing countries, especially states and provinces that are in opposition.

Nyesom Ezenwo Wike emerged as the Governor of Rivers State on April 11, 2015, with an overwhelming mandate. He polled a total of 1,029,102 votes amounting to 87.77 percent to defeat Dr Dakuku Peterside of the All Progressives Congress, APC who had 124,896 votes amounting to 10.65 percent. Repeated Rerun elections orchestrated by political flaws masterminded by the APC Federal Government have proven that Wike enjoys an overwhelming support base in Rivers State as APC cannot win elections on the field despite being aided by compromised security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Governor Wike brings an opposition perspective to Chatham House, which is expected to deepen the global understanding of the development and political challenges facing Nigeria at the moment.

The Royal Institute of International Affairs also known as Chatham House had formally invited the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to share his thoughts on development issues via a letter dated 19th August 2017 by her research director, Dr Alex Vines (OBE).

According to Chatham House: "We would be delighted to host you for an hour-long public event during which you would be invited to deliver an address up to twenty minutes, followed by questions and discussion for the remaining time. Chattam House audiences are made up of policy makers and decision makers, business representatives, media, academics and other experts".

Eminent figures who have spoken at Chatham House include: President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, President Muhammadu, Presidents Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki of South Africa, President Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, Presidents John Mahama and John Kufour of Ghana.

Earlier on Friday, Governor Wike visited Financial Times where he enterred a partnership with the reputable newspaper on the investment opportunities in Rivers State.

Mark Carwardine, Commercial Director, Africa and The Middle East and Larry Kenny, Sales Manager for Africa and the Middle East assured the Rivers State Governor that Financial Times will highlight the investment opportunities in the state.

Also on Friday last week, Governor Wike was hosted by the Westminster Africa Business Group, an assembly of select British Parliamentarians and the British business community.

Mr Tim Johnsen, a Parliamentarian, commended Governor Wike for his development strides, pledging the support of the group.

PoliticsCorruption: Aisha Buhari And Her Daughter, Zahra Are Also Wailing - Sule Lamido by kirajustice(op): 1:24pm On Nov 05, 2017
A former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido has said that the level of corruption in the Buhari-led administration has caused the First Lady, Aisha Buhari and her daughter, Zahra to wail.

Lamido, who is aspiring to be president in 2019 told Vanguard that the high rate of corruption is also frustrating the chairman of the Presidential advisory committee against corruption, Itse Sagay.

He added that the APC has shown that it is more corrupt than the PDP. In his words;

"Thank God, today, because of their high-level fraud, the First Lady of the country (Aisha Buhari) too is wailing; even her daughter is wailing.

The wailing is spreading so much so that the professor of law (Itse Sagay), whose committee was called to stem corruption in the country, too is wailing because he said APC is also corrupt.

The latest ‘wailing’ is about the former Chairman of the Police Pension Reform Panel, Maina, who was reinstated and promoted after being accused of stealing N2billion pension money.

And it is like the ‘wailing and wailing’ is not about to end because there is so much economic hardship in the land.Look, let me tell you, these people are citizens of this country by right and not by privilege; they should not be mocked for talking about their own government

Since May 29, 2015, has there been no money appropriated for them to spend? But they were looking for the money they claimed PDP stole."

CrimePhotos Of Redeemed Member And Accomplice That Stole N11.9 Million by kirajustice(op): 9:21am On Nov 04, 2017
The EFCC on Friday, November 3, 2017 arraigned the duo of Idakwoji Cyril Ameh and Oboma Chisom before Justice Adamu Turaki Mohammed of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on a twelve- count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery, uttering and stealing to the tune of Thirty Six Million, One Hundred and Eighty Six Thousand, Twelve Naira only (N36, 186, 012, 00).

PoliticsNGR gathered that the defendants pleaded not guilty.In view of their plea, prosecution counsel, N.T Iko prayed the court to grant him a date for the commencement of trial and also prayed that the defendants be remanded in prison custody.

In response, counsel to the 1st defendant, Abiye Atorudibo prayed that the court grants him a short date to enable him file an application for bail formally. Counsel to the 2nd defendant, H.D Ibrahim also aligned with Atorudibo.

Justice Muhammed adjourned the matter to 22 and 24 November 2017 for arguments on bail and ordered that the defendants be remanded in prison custody.

Troubles came for Ameh, a former marketer with Access Bank, when he allegedly connived with his colleague, Chisolm to swindle Jephthah International School, Port Harcourt of Thirty-Six Million, One Hundred and Eighty-Six Thousand, Twelve Naira only (N36, 186, 012, 00) and diverted same for their private uses. They were trapped when the cheques of the school could not be honoured for several days.

The matter was reported to the bank to find out what was going on. The bank’s Compliance Officer further brought a complaint to the EFCC. Investigations showed that, at every resumption of the school, Ameh would visit the school and collect school fees paid in cash and cheque by parents, and issued deposit slips to the school.

Investigations further showed that he was only lodging the cheques but diverting the cash collected for his personal use. Besides, he was always issuing doctored Statements of Account to the school in a bid to cover up his nefarious actions.

The defendant, who was also the Account Officer to Province 4 and Region 5 of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, according to investigation, allegedly forged letterheads of the church and the signature of the pastor in charge of the region in a bid to carry out his criminal activities.

It will be recalled that the EFCC recently handed over six bank drafts covering N11.9m to the Redeemed Christian Church of God and another N36m belonging to Jephthah International School stolen by the bankers.

PoliticsAtiku Denies 2019 Declaration Video, Says Its Fake by kirajustice(op): 10:18am On Nov 03, 2017
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has distanced himself from a fake video purporting to be a formal declaration of his intent to contest the 2019 presidential election, PoliticsNGR has learned.

Reacting to the fake video which is now in circulation, the former Vice President speaking through his media office in Abuja, said the video is a bad job of bad people with bad intentions.

 According to Atiku, some mischief makers are using a video clip extracted from his 2011 presidential declaration to create a false impression that he formally declared for the 2019 presidential election.

He said such propaganda is being deliberately promoted by political opponents in order to create acrimony.

Atiku advised those involved in such "laughable and unintelligent propaganda of lies and intentional mischief to find something useful to do with their time instead of using his name to achieve their malicious political objectives."

Describing those behind the fake video clip "as a group of incompetent and bumbling political novices who cannot see the loopholes in their own stories", the former Vice President advised members of the Nigerian press to be wary of uncritically lapping up fake news materials from groups that don't care about their own credibility.

He explained that, "While fake news merchants don't bother about ethics and their reputation", members of the press have more to lose if they take stories from such disreputable groups without verification.

The Waziri Adamawa added that spreading false stories about any individual politician is not within the protected boundaries of free speech, and that the traditional media should take the first step by not helping fake news merchants to promote their agenda.

CelebritiesRe: Waconzy Slams Daddy Freeze: "Everything You Said About Tithe Is 10000% RUBBISH! by kirajustice: 10:43am On Nov 02, 2017
This guy is really stupid sha...So timaya that sings about boobs,yash and deeply secular songs is getting his blessings from God....that;s like saying God is blessing him for encouraging youths to participate in activities he warned against in the bible...Daft vulture.

See Freeze explained tithing according to the bible....and this has really opened peoples eyes to the tricks played by these Nigerian pastorpreneurs......a large percentage of these people are charlatans and master criminals....they use the bible to control you and your behaviour...turn your to a slave through brainwashing techniques and hive mentality.....

I believe in God..and believe the bible....but to go to church in Nigeria..lai lai. Most of the churches here are an advanced form of MMM..they tell you that once you pay your tithe or give God something you reap 100 times over.....and its shocking that people with masters degrees and Phds fall for these basic tricks. They paint God as a money doubler and believe you mean..over 90% of people that tithe..don't tithe because they love God..they Tithe because of what they want to get back..that is the basic rationale used and there is nothing more self deceiving than that.

Want to know if tithing is real.....dont work..just be paying tithe and see if the money will come...looool. What God is after is your heart and your faith in him..not your money..money is man-made. If you want God to know you value him....its not by the amount of money you give church.....it by how much you believe and worship him..simple!

Some people say that Tithe is not for Church.....ok..let me Ask ...Who is the sole signatory to the church account where all the money is stashed ...Ehn?.....All those tithes that are being stashed...who places them in fixed deposits for more money to accrue? who....? Who dey chop the interest?

How does a pastor who had nothing..all of a sudden starts riding hummer, rolls royce and flying private jet? Some say its a gift...what prevent me from using church money to buy a jeep.....give to a member and ask him to pretend as if he bought it and present it to me in church as a gift? what prevents me from doing that as a pastor?..most people dont think....honestly.
Politics2019 Elections: CAN Endorses Fayose For Presidency by kirajustice(op):
"Unarguably, you have done what many of our politicians, Christians in particular, do not have the courage to do. This is why I agree with you, hook, line and sinker, when in your speech you said inter alia, ‘You are all witnesses to my commitment to this party in this difficult period, where I have demonstrated uncommon courage that makes me stand out as capable of leading our country at this time.

Your Excellency, because you are known to doing great in your leadership and that you will move this country forward, the enemies of progress are not happy with your declaration and are not sleeping well.

The devil will use many, even those who might be closer to you, to try to create lies, false accusation, spread rumours, just to distract people from seeing the good leadership qualities that are in you.

In times like this, if honest and courageous leaders like you are not careful, this can bring discouragement. Be assured that the Lord who has led you in your leadership as the governor of Ekiti State at this time, will never let you down.

Your critics have the right to say whatever they want, that is to be expected anyway. No leader should expect applause from his critics.The leader that Nigeria really needs is the one that shuns the cosmetic approach because he knows it is superficial and the ‘quick fix it’ approach because he knows it is temporary. The country needs a leader who has the courage to face problems honestly, the wisdom to understand them, the strength to do something about them and the faith to trust God to do the rest."

CrimeImo Police Command Parades Cultists, Armed Robbers And Kidnappers(photos) by kirajustice(op): 11:15am On Nov 01, 2017
PRESS BRIEFING BY CP CHRIS O. EZIKE, COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, IMO STATE COMMAND ON MONDAY 30TH OCTOBER 2017 AT COMMAND HEADQUARTERS, OWERRI IMO STATE.

Gentlemen of the Press,

You may recall that on the 7th and 11th of September 2017 respectively, I addressed you on the occasion of parade of suspects who kidnapped and murdered Late Rev Fr Cyriacus Onunkwo and the Commendation/award ceremony of Police personnel who arrested the suspects and successfully investigated the case. Since these two press briefings, we have continued to make tremendous progress in the fight against crime and criminality in Imo State. The peace and tranquility we have witnessed in the past two months can only be attributed to the high profile arrests and recoveries the Command has made within the period under review. As we approach the two critical months of November and December the Command shall do the following;

(i) Continue the all out offensive against criminals through intelligence led raids, cordon and search, diligent investigation of arrested suspects and successful prosecution of cases.
(ii) We shall also continue to be more visible at black spots, strategic junctions, public places and commercial centres.
(iii) The guard of banks/financial houses shall also be our top priority.
(iv) We shall also pay special attention to general and specific security of Imolities from the Diaspora who have returned home to enjoy the yuletide.
2. Today, we shall be show-casing our modest efforts in restoring peace, law and order in Assa, Obile, Awara and other neighboring communities in Ohaji/Egbema LGA of Imo State. The worrisome incidence of cultism, brigandage, kidnapping and general Youth restiveness associated with armed robbery and unprecedented violence forced these Communities to flee for their dear lives in the last 20 months. In our efforts to curb violence, stop the killings, restore law and order, arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act, show, shame and prosecute them, the Command in conjunction with the Military has made several arrests and recovered exhibits. A stabilization team of both Police and the Military have taken absolute charge and the cultists are being given a run for their money. Some pictorial evidence available to the investigating team revealed gory escapades of these sons and daughters of devil and how their mindless and inhuman but avoidable activities sent humanity to their early graves. We are determined to ensure that cultists are not allowed a field day anymore.

3. We shall also reveal some other achievements in anti-robbery, anti-kidnapping and anti-human trafficking operations. These operations are presently ongoing and shall continue till the end of January, 2018.

4. The Command shall also be taking part in Anambra State elections with the deployment of about 600 personnel. This is not only in compliance with the directive of the Inspector General of Police but in keeping with the policy of joint and collaborative efforts to achieve greater results.

PoliticsElites, Religious Leaders Frustrating Buhari's Corruption Fight - Osinbajo by kirajustice(op): 8:46am On Nov 01, 2017
Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo has said that president Muhammadu Buhari's fight against corruption was experiencing hiccups because of the nation's Elite and some religious leaders.

Speaking at the dedication and commissioning of a 10,000 seater Ecumenical centre built by the Seriake Dickson administration in Bayelsa, Osinbajo who was represented by the chaplain of Aso rock, Seyi Joseph blamed corruption, tribalism and religion as impediments to Nigeria's growth.In his Words:

"Permit me then to make a concluding submission. It is my view that the Nigerian elite – political, business and religious – regardless of faith and ethnicity, think alike, and are driven by largely similar motivations. The elite are usually self-centred, selfish and unprepared to make the sacrifices either in service or self-restraint that leaders of successful communities must make.

Playing the religious or ethnic card when necessary so as to get the masses in line is the grossly cynical default of our elite. However, the most poignant point to note is that, when you look at any list of alleged perpetrators of a heinous case of corruption, all tribes ethnicities and religions are well represented.

In other words, high-level corruption knows no religion or ethnicity. The conspirators include Christians and Muslims from all the Geo-political zones. They are in government, legislature, judiciary and the press. They are United, protect each other, fight for each other’s and are prepared to go down together. They are one tribe, indivisible, regardless of diversity. It is this tribe that confuse the arguments for change in society…Nigeria’s greatest battle is the Jane to bring integrity and accountability to public service and the private sector.”

To build a new Nigeria, Osinbajo canvassed a new tribe of men and women of all faith, tribe and ethnicity who are committed to a country administered on high values of integrity, hard work, justice and patriotism."

CrimeMr 2kay Robbery: Lagos Police To Move Against Drug Abuse,criminality In Hotels by kirajustice(op): 6:23pm On Oct 29, 2017
The Lagos State Police Command has warned operators of nightclubs, beaches, hotels, bars, lounges, among others in the State to henceforth put internal security measures in place to discourage drug abuse, drug peddling and other criminal activities in their establishments in the overall best interest of their businesses and security of the State.

Speaking at the weekend during a meeting with stakeholders in the hospitality industry at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, the State’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgal said intelligence report indicated that there was increase in drug abuse among youths and minors and that such was dangerous to efforts of the State Government to promote the night economy of the State.

He said through the efforts of the State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, there had been many initiatives and programmes geared toward ensuring a 24-hour economy for the State, and that despite the successes recorded in recent time, there were grey areas which must be jointly tackled by both police and operators in line with his principle of community policing and security partnership.

He said: “One of such areas is the issue of drug peddling, drug use and abuse. Intelligence report at my disposal reveals that there is increased drug peddling, drug abuse in most of our nightclubs, lounges, beaches and so on across the State. Young men and women freely use narcotic substances at times in the seating areas, at times more hidden in the toilet areas of our clubs, lounges, hotels to the knowledge of the operators but they are doing nothing about it. This is wrong.

“The scourge of drugs and its attendant effect not only health wise on the young population but also that sheer fact that there is a very clear correlation between drug and crime is something that should make every responsible Lagosian worried. The ease with which our youths are getting access to drugs at clubs, lounges, beaches and so on is worrisome and our meeting here today is to send a very strong signal to operators that it is not going to be business as usual.”

The CP said it had also been observed that some hotels in the State now give rooms to minors and also sell alcoholic drinks to them, while under-aged girls were also being allowed to use such establishments for prostitution, saying that such was very criminal and capable of leading to crimes.

“In addition, we also have the issue of criminals hibernating and having save haven in all our beaches, hotels, clubs, lounges these days. The last intelligence report I received indicates that young men now move around these establishments armed. This is very dangerous for the security of the State. We have it on good authority that some of these establishments are used as meeting points to plan crimes before they execute,” Edgal said.

He said in as much as the police have the capacity to arrest any operator found aiding such, but that he was engaging the stakeholders in line with the principle of community policing and security partnership to tackle the menace frontally, while any operator found culpable would henceforth be arrested, shamed and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Going forward, the CP said it was compulsory for operators to now install basic security gadgets such as CCTV cameras and metal box detectors, among others to cover their establishments.

The CP also set up a 10-man Committee headed by the Managing Director of Farm City Lounge in Lekki, Mr Lanre Carew to come up with a comprehensive blueprint on how to strengthen security in the hospitality industry, especially how to put a stop to drug peddling and use as well as armed bandits gaining access to the establishments to plan crimes.

The Committee, whose members are drawn from across the State, has two weeks to submit its report.

PoliticsRestructuring Nigeria Is Possible - Balarabe Musa Replies Gowon by kirajustice(op): 12:18pm On Oct 29, 2017
Alhaji Balarabe Musa, a former governor of Old Kaduna has disagreed with a Former head of state, Yakubu Gowon over his statement that Nigeria cannot be restructured.

Gowon earlier stated that due the fact that Nigeria had over 500 ethnic groups with different dialects and languages, it would be practically impossible to restructure. Reacting to the statement, Musa blamed the current problems facing the country on the failure to continue with the 3Rs, reconciliation, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation which was instituted by Gowon himself after the 1967 civil war.He said;

"If Nigeria had maintained the 3R policy introduced, this wouldn’t have happened.So our own idea of restructuring is first to reconcile Nigerians so that they can commit themselves to one united nation. The second thing we have in mind is political reconstruction in which we will return to the regional arrangements, by having three viable regions as federating unit, as opposed to the present thirty-six states of the country, because they not viable."

He added: "In regional arrangement where we have 6 states for instance, with rich regional government, having their own constitution and federating unit, whereby they manage their own affairs they have the resources at their disposal, they will not have to be depending on the federal government.

The other restructuring we required is economic restructuring, the government at every level should play it role in the economy, in order to ensure stability, peace and equality for the development of the whole country. This is our idea of restructuring.

And that is why we don’t need 36 states, we want to return to the 1963 constitution, whereby our regional government with their constitution will constitute the federating unit, were eastern, western and northern region was viable enough and even the middle east that came later was viable, as compared with the federal 36 states.

If any region wants, they can create more states and local government, if they want, provided they create them without depending on the center.So am not in support of what Gowon said, restructuring is possible and is even desirable."
