The Managing Director of Powell Homes and Shelters Ltd, Architect Chibuikem Onyekachi, has lauded the Enugu State Governor for signing the Land Use Regulation 2025 and Executive Order No. 1, 2025, which designate several locations across the state as urban areas. Architect Onyekachi described the move as transformative, noting that it aligns with the administration's vision to enhance land administration and boost economic opportunities. Speaking during a press briefing in Enugu on Saturday, Arc. Onyekachi highlighted the significance of the new regulation in driving development. He remarked, "This bold initiative will significantly increase the value of properties across the state and provide residents with improved access to essential resources. It enables property owners to secure Certificates of Occupancy, thus removing a major barrier to economic empowerment." The Managing Director further emphasized the economic benefits of the regulation, stating that with Certificates of Occupancy, residents in the newly designated urban areas can now unlock the financial potential of their properties. "Property owners can now easily access loans and other forms of credit to grow their businesses. This creates a ripple effect that promotes entrepreneurship and boosts the state’s overall economic growth." Architect Onyekachi commended the transparency and efficiency embedded in the policy. He applauded the administration's commitment to eliminating hidden charges, double allocations, and land-grabbing issues, all of which have plagued land transactions in the past. He noted, "For years, many residents, especially those in the real estate sector, have been deterred from engaging in land transactions due to uncertainty and corruption. This policy clears those doubts and fosters trust in the system." Recall that Architect Onyekachi had praised Governor Mbah's introduction of the integration of the Enugu State Geographic Information System (ENGIS) with the new regulation, describing it as a masterstroke in streamlining administrative processes, making it easier for residents to apply for land titles and resolve disputes efficiently. According to Onyekachi, this regulation positions Enugu State as a model for land administration in Nigeria. "This is the kind of visionary leadership we need to attract investors and create an environment conducive to development. It sets a precedent that other states should emulate," he said, adding that the policy aligns perfectly with the modern goals of urban planning and development. The Powell Homes MD also expressed optimism that public enlightenment campaigns promised by the administration would ensure residents fully understand the new processes. He urged property owners, real estate companies, and realtors, among others, to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the regulation, especially in applying for Certificates of Occupancy to safeguard their investments. He, however, reaffirmed his company’s support for the administration's initiatives. "Powell Homes and Shelters Ltd remains committed to collaborating with the government to develop sustainable housing solutions for Ndi Enugu. Popular Enugu-born relationship coach, Princess Joseph Okechukwu, who broke the Guinness World Record for the longest interviewing marathon by an individual has given reasons behind achieving such feat. The Nkanu-born lady conducted interviews for 72 hours and 12 minutes, surpassing her initial target of 65 hours and 30 seconds. The marathon, titled Kings’ Couples Palooza, began on Thursday, December 5, 2024, to December 8, 2024 at No. 61A Ezillo Independence Layout, Enugu, where Princess Okechukwu interviewed 103 participants, including couples, singles, widows, and divorced individuals, on topics related to relationships, marriage, and personal growth. Speaking with newsmen after achieving this feat, Princess Okechukwu thanked God for the opportunity to have achieved one of her biggest goals in life. She stated that the zeal to inform the world about the beauty of marriage, its benefits, and more in a society that is gradually losing interest in family values prompted the Guinness World Record attempt. She posited that there is beauty in workable marriages, and its awareness needs to be made known to all, especially those who are already misinformed. According to her: “This was about promoting the beauty of workable marriages and inspiring a renewed interest in family preservation. The primary vision behind this record attempt was to show the world the beauty of workable marriage and stir the passion in them to desire them, thereby promoting marital rebirth and family preservation. This prompted me to conduct in-depth interviews with over 100 couples and individuals, just to show the world the beauty of workable marriages and steps towards having great marriages. I believe that there is a need for global awareness of marital rejuvenation and family strengthening, according to UN Goal 16 (Peace, Family Strengthening). There is a need to promote marital rebirth and family preservation through mutual respect, meaningful connections, understanding of gender roles and responsibilities, trust, and right communication in relationships.” Princess Okechukwu also narrated the challenges and ordeals encountered during the Guinness World Record attempt, which she said almost demoralized her. However, her strong will and determination helped push her through. “It was almost a failed mission. I had few individuals who believed in my vision, and to get the support of many was hard. A series of promises from people were not fulfilled. But despite the absence of sponsors, physical supporters, and disappointment from expected and unexpected sources, I persevered and achieved my goal. Although I didn't meet my initial proposed expectations, I believe that I delivered my best effort considering the resources available to me. My passion for promoting global awareness of marital rebirth and family preservation drove me forward, resonating deeply within me. I sought to demonstrate that a determined girl-child can accomplish extraordinary feats despite obstacles, as long as she believes in herself. Another source of my motivation was to make my husband, children, family, community, state, and country proud.” She, however, thanked all those who availed their time, resources, and more to ensure a successful outing, while also urging everyone to join hands in strengthening the marital institution across the globe. “I am grateful to everyone who supported me throughout this endeavor, including the participants, volunteers, and witnesses. This achievement would not have been possible without their collective efforts. As I look to the future, I am excited to continue promoting the importance of relationships, marriages, family, and community building. This record attempt has inspired me to pursue new initiatives and projects that foster meaningful connections and personal growth. Let us all join hands to make marriage a formidable institution for societal growth across the globe.” Reports also have it that independent witnesses and timekeepers verified the record attempt, ensuring all guidelines were followed during the Guinness World Record attempt, while volunteers also provided logistical support throughout the event.

The Managing Director of Powell Homes and Shelters Limited, Architect Chibuikem Onyekachi, made this known on Tuesday in a commendation press statement which he signed and sent to newsmen in Enugu. He stated that ENGIS is an ultra-modern land management system that offers unparalleled benefits to the real estate sector, particularly in streamlining the process of securing land titles. He posited that, with ENGIS, land applications can be processed online within 48 hours because the system eliminates the delays that often hinder property transactions: adding that this innovation not only reduces operational costs for developers and investors but also promotes a seamless property acquisition experience essential for boosting investor confidence. Architect Onyekachi further noted that the availability of precise geospatial data through ENGIS would revolutionize urban planning and development. He explained that real estate developers and urban planners could now make informed decisions on land use, zoning, and project siting, adding that this level of data accuracy encourages strategic growth while ensuring projects align with the broader objectives of sustainable urbanization in the state. He highlighted that another key feature of ENGIS is its impact on the ease of obtaining construction permits, a crucial aspect for real estate developers. Recall that Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State had on Monday, December 16, 2024, opened the beautiful edifice constructed for ENGIS, which has also attracted lots of encomiums across the globe. The statement reads " PRESS STATEMENT "ENGIS: A New Era for Real Estate and Land Management in Enugu State" The Managing Director of Powell Homes and Shelters Limited, Architect Chibuikem Onyekachi, commends Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for the launch of the Enugu State Geographic Information System (ENGIS). This has shown a visible commitment by the state government to enhancing governance processes and establishing a transparent, efficient framework for land management in the state. ENGIS is an ultra-modern land management system that offers unparalleled benefits to the real estate sector, particularly in streamlining the process of securing land titles. With this, land applications can be processed online within 48 hours because the system eliminates the delays that often hinder property transactions. This innovation not only reduces operational costs for developers and investors but also promotes a seamless property acquisition experience that is essential for boosting investor confidence. For us, the property developers, the system is a game-changer in resolving long-standing challenges such as double allocations and unauthorized encroachments, as it provides a centralized, verifiable database of land records, thus ensuring that property ownership disputes are minimized, thereby creating a reliable environment for transactions. This reliability is critical for long-term planning and project execution in the real estate industry. The availability of precise geospatial data through ENGIS will also revolutionize urban planning and development. Real estate developers and urban planners can now make informed decisions on land use, zoning, and project siting. This level of data accuracy encourages strategic growth while ensuring projects align with the broader objectives of sustainable urbanization in the state. Another key feature of ENGIS is its impact on the ease of obtaining construction permits, a crucial aspect for real estate developers. The digitization and automation of these processes enable ENGIS to remove bureaucratic barriers that make the speeding up of project timelines impossible. It will also enable developers to focus on delivering quality housing and commercial infrastructure. The economic impact of ENGIS cannot be overstated, as it ensures efficiency and transparency in revenue collection from land-related activities, boosts the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), and fosters a business-friendly environment for real estate sector stakeholders, which will ultimately attract both local and international investors. Powell Homes and Shelters Limited acknowledges that ENGIS represents a bold step forward for Enugu State’s economy and property management. The system’s digital transformation aligns perfectly with the needs of modern real estate operations and underscores the state’s readiness for expansive growth in the sector. We encourage stakeholders in the real estate and construction industries to embrace the advantages offered by ENGIS. Together, we can position Enugu State as a hub for real estate development, economic growth, and sustainable urbanization. In line with it's humanistic ideals, the Chapter President, Joe Mazeli stated this while addressing newsmen on Sunday , December 15,2024 at their Anchor Point, Rangers Avenue, Independence Layout Enugu. He urged the people to be mindful of the bustling and hustling associated with this period, encouraging them to take things easy and hope for the best. According to him, "being alive should be the priority of every Enugu residents, instead of struggling over things that don't really matter. What you didn't get today, can be gotten tomorrow. Road users - public and private should remember there are loved ones waiting for you to arrive home safely. Over speeding should be avoided every time, but especially this period. Obey all traffic rules, inspect the conditions of your vehicle before moving out, put on seat belt always, and be friendly to your fellow passengers". He went on to solicit for the reenactment of the old brotherliness and good neighbourliness that Enugu is known for. "Let's look out for our neighbours, our friends, our families, and our colleagues. Such little love performs a lot of magic than expected; we need each other to survive our current economic realities". Mr Mazelli emphasised on the need for all the residents of the state, to be security conscious at all times as that, would help to curb avoidable security breaches; adding that, security is everybody's duty, to uphold. "Let your family know your whereabouts at every given point. Report all suspicious activities within your locality to the appropriate security authorities and government agencies. He however, urged the government to embark on economic policies that will affect the common man on the streets positively while also calling on public office holders as well as good spirited philanthropist in the State, to be magnanimous in distributing palliatives to the poorest of the poor in the society, so that everyone can end the year with smile on their faces.

The leadership of the Ndinwuba Family of Amauzam Obeagu in Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State has cautioned the general public against purchasing lands and other kindred-owned properties from Mr. Ifeanyi Agbomba Egbo, Barr. Emeka Agu, and their associates. According to the family, any transactions with these individuals are illegal and will result in significant legal troubles for the buyers. The warning comes in light of a subsisting court order from the High Court of Enugu State, which affirmed the legitimacy of the Mr. Timothy Ogbodo-led Executive as the only recognized leadership of the family. The court order explicitly restrains Mr. Agbomba and his group from interfering with the family’s assets or parading themselves as executives. Recall that the Enugu State High Court, presided over by Hon. Justice A. O. Onovo, on July 28, 2023, in Suit No. E/349/2023, granted an order of interim injunction restraining Mr. Ifeanyi Agbomba Egbo and others from performing any functions as executives of the Ndinwuba Family. The court also barred them from selling, leasing, or dealing with family properties, including the contentious lands at Centenary Layout, Enugu. Speaking on the matter in Enugu on Monday, the solicitor to the Ogbodo-led Executive, Barr. J. N. Aloh reiterated that the court’s decision is binding and must be respected. He posited that he wonders why some elements from the community will continue to sell lands meant for their Community even when there is an existing court order. According to him, “The public is advised to desist from dealing with Mr. Agbomba and his group regarding Ndinwuba Family lands, especially those along Centenary City. Such actions amount to contempt of court and expose buyers to severe legal risks,” he stated. Also speaking with newsmen, the chairman of the Ndinwuba Family, Mr. Timothy Ogbodo, alleged that a lot of their family-owned lands, especially those around Centenary City, are currently being sold by a few individuals from their village to innocent buyers. He stressed that any land transactions conducted by unauthorized persons would be declared null and void, urging prospective buyers to verify the authenticity of any dealings through the recognized leadership to avoid falling victim to fraudulent activities. Chief Ogbodo further assured the public of their commitment to protecting the family’s properties and ensuring that all dealings follow due process. “Our doors remain open for legitimate inquiries and peace making. Let no one be deceived by false claims or misrepresentation." " I am the authorised chairman of the family and will continue to work for the interest of my people."

The training, which will commence on November 24, 2024, and end on December 9, 2024, at the National Animal Production Research Institute, is one of the mechanisms put in place by the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah to grow the economy of the state. Addressing all the prospective trainees on Thursday in the L-PRES office ahead of their takeoff, the State Project Coordinator, Dr. Ifeyinwa Nnajieze, said Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah wants to diversify the state's economy using the livestock business. Narrating the importance of L-PRES to the state and why Governor Peter Ndubuisi has invested so much, Dr. Nnajieze said, "L-PRES came to enhance agricultural output in the state," adding that a lot has been put in place to enhance livestock production in the state. "We are here to enhance livestock productivity in the state. L-PRES has five components such as Institutional and Innovation System Strengthening, Livestock Value Chain Enhancement, Crisis Prevention and Conflict Mitigation, Project Coordination and Management, and Contingency Emergency Response Components." "Enugu State, for a long time, has neglected the livestock sector, and we want to resuscitate, revitalise, and rejig the sector. His Excellency is sending some of us to Zaria to enable us to get the needed training to maximise growth in the sector. We have academics, small and large livestock farmers, civil servants from the Ministry of Agriculture, veterinary doctors, amongst others. All these were selected to ensure that knowledge transfer, sustainability, and records are kept for future exploration. His Excellency is very determined to include all so as to make the aim well-achieved and get people that will act as service providers. These service providers will train others, and so the knowledge will transfer." Dr. Nnajieze also urged those who are not interested to withdraw to enable others who are ready to help achieve reasonable results to go. She also told the participants that the knowledge they gather during the training will help in establishing an AI centre in Enugu State. Explaining the objectives of the training, the Value Chain Officer of L-PRES Enugu State, Mrs. Mamel-Akpata Chinenyenwa, said the training will boost livestock productivity in the state, adding that maximum application of the skills acquired will grow the state's economy. "The training is to arm Enugu-based livestock farmers with the necessary skills that will enable them to manage artificial insemination. This will expose them to AI centre plans and equipment. It will expose them to acquire the required skills for male selection, semen collection, evaluation, processing, and preservation processes. They will also improve their understanding of reproductive biology and breeding management principles, promote proper use and maintenance of AI equipment and supplies, amongst others." Addressing the trainees, the Environmental Specialist of L-PRES Enugu State, Dr. Enoch Nnanna, urged the trainees to apply caution in their attire as the weather there is different from what we have here, which could be a serious distraction to them. He urged all to be mindful of what they wear, as their culture of dress sense differs from ours. The Permanent Secretary, Enugu State Ministry of Agriculture, Victor Ngwu, said Enugu State is blessed with a governor passionate about building the economy of the state, especially through the agricultural sector. He stated that the vision of moving the state's economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion isn't a joke, as the governor has invested so much in agriculture. He urged all the trainees to imbibe the spirit of seriousness during the training and be able to justify the fees paid to train them, as a lot is expected of them from the state government. Mr. Ngwu, who is also an agrarian, enumerated the likely take-homes for the participants, noting that they can actually establish their ranches, which will make Enugu a citadel of agriculture in Africa.

Government appointees and staff across all sectors in Nigeria have been urged to apply professionalism and patriotism in all they do for the betterment of our dear nation. The Vice-Chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Professor Aloysius Michaels Nnabugwu Okolie, made this call on Saturday during the official reception event organized by the Greater Awgu Welfare Association (GAWA) ESUT Chapter, in honor of his appointment as the University's leader. He stated that working in Nigeria is one of the toughest tasks, as many who come close are there for their own benefits rather than for the work and society at large. He emphasized that for a government appointee or staff member to be successful, such a person must prioritize the interests of their work and country over those who seek to exploit the system for personal gain. He added that the best way to survive and leave a legacy is to work hard and create a system that can be transferred across generations. "I am very happy to be in your midst today because this is an opportunity for us to know each other more for the benefit of our institution," he remarked. "When I was appointed the Vice-Chancellor by the former Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi, I was asked to go and create a new ESUT, which was a difficult task. This is because people were used to norms and systems that were against growth and progress. What I did was start creating a functional system because that is the only thing that can help me deliver. I started with staff biometric registrations and regularizations to ensure that employees are well placed and positioned. This enabled me to have a clear view of what the University looked like before we started convocation and addressed the issue of inaugural lectures for our professors. You can attest to the fact that our school is more visible now." The University Don, who is from Awgu Egbeneli Community, urged all members of GAWA to reject nepotism in all they do and embrace patriotism, as that is the standard for measuring a university. He added that for him to succeed as their brother, they must always do the right thing at the right time, which is what would make him a better leader. He also admonished them to avoid any activity that is contrary to the school's regulations, as he will not hesitate to take action against any Greater Awgu staff member who defaults. In his address, the chairman of the Greater Awgu Welfare Association, ESUT Chapter, Prof. Leo Chukwu, said they organized the event to celebrate an illustrious son of the organization, who is from Umuhu-Ezike Kingdom, Awgu Town, Awgu Local Government Area. He then highlighted the achievements of Prof. Okolie within his two years in office. He called on the members of the organization to give the Vice-Chancellor maximum support by being punctual to duty and providing the necessary advice and guidance for him to succeed. Prof. Chukwu also called on the members of the group and well-meaning Greater Awgu sons and daughters to support the organization for the betterment of all. Also speaking, the chairman of the occasion, Justice Onuora (rtd.), thanked God for the opportunity to witness the emergence of another son of "Old Awgu" as a public university leader. He stated that it is time for all the leaders from Greater Awgu, especially those in academia, to unite and champion a course on education that will further empower them. He also urged for greater use of the language in communication to prevent the possibility of its extinction, before praising the leadership qualities of Prof. Okolie, whom he described as someone of whom "Old Awgu" is proud. The retired Justice also highlighted the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders within the university community, stressing that unity is crucial for progress. He called on the Greater Awgu community to leverage their diverse expertise and resources to support developmental initiatives in ESUT. According to him, such collective efforts would not only uplift the university but also set a precedent for future generations to emulate. He expressed optimism that with continued dedication from both the leadership of GAWA and the management led by Professor Aloysius Michaels Nnabugwu Okolie, ESUT would reach new heights in academic excellence and social impact.

Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State has been urged to address the precarious state of magistrates' welfare in the state. A former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Enugu State Chapter, Barr. CNN Nwagbara, made this call on Saturday when he appeared on Family Love 99.9 FM's Igbo show, Efinenweghi Ọdụdụ. He stated that one of the problems facing the justice system in Nigeria, especially in Enugu State, is the poor remuneration for judicial workers, especially those who administer justice at the lower level, such as magistrates. "Magistrates are crucial to the foundation of our justice system, but the conditions under which they serve do not reflect the importance of their role. A situation where those who uphold the law are struggling with inadequate pay and poor living conditions is a disservice to justice itself," Barr. Nwagbara remarked. Narrating the ordeals faced by magistrates in Enugu State, such as poor salaries, lack of residential apartments, lack of cars to aid movement, and inadequate facilities to execute their work, among others, Barr. Nwagbara said a state of emergency has to be declared by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whom he described as a lawyer, to address these issues properly. He called on magistrates to exercise some patience for the Governor, as he is a man who listens. He also urged them to use the legally approved systems, such as the Judicial Service Commission, to send their ordeals to the appropriate authorities. Also speaking, the immediate past chairman of the NBA in Ezeagu Local Government Area, Barr. CD Ezeh, said it is high time the state government addressed all the predicaments faced by magistrates. "The risks faced by magistrates daily are immense. It is only fair that their compensation and support match the weight of their responsibilities. When magistrates cannot feel safe or valued in their roles, it weakens the justice system at its core," Barr. Ezeh stated. He stated that the safety of magistrates is in doubt because they are the first contact on any criminal issues, after which they would still go back to the streets to meet those who were arraigned before them or their subordinates. Barr. Ezeh called for a comprehensive overhaul of the welfare packages currently used for magistrates, as it is a mockery when compared with the risk and service they render.

South East Youths under the aegis of South East Youths for Alliance Fubara (SEYAF) have cautioned the Hon. Minister of State for FCT, Nyesom Wike, against using certain government and non-government actors to instigate political instability in Rivers State. The group stated that despite these distractions from the FCT minister, who was given the opportunity to govern the state for eight years, Governor Fubara remains one of Nigeria's performing governors, credited with numerous completed and ongoing projects that are directly addressing the needs of the people. In a press statement signed by the Coordinator of the group, Comrade Paschal Nnaemeka Ugwu, and sent to newsmen in Enugu on Saturday, SEYAF, which has structures across all South-East states, praised Governor Fubara's leadership and expressed gratitude for his support of Hon. Ihunwo as a leader who will replicate the state's achievements at the grassroots level in Obiakpor Local Government Area. The group highlighted some of Governor Fubara's key achievements, including the reconstruction of Unity Road connecting Andoni to Ogoni, as well as the extension of the Ngo internal roads to Oyorokoto Town, which will significantly improve transportation and boost economic activity in the area. His administration has also shown commitment to healthcare with the construction of a new General Hospital and the upgrade of 33 primary healthcare centers. SEYAF also commended Governor Fubara’s efforts in the education sector, particularly the construction of new secondary schools and a twin hostel at the Nigerian Law School in Yenagoa, which will improve living conditions for students. They noted that his dedication to improving the lives of Rivers State residents is clearly visible through these initiatives. While calling for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to mediate in the ongoing feud between Governor Fubara and Minister Wike, the group urged Governor Fubara to continue prioritizing the peace and progress of Rivers State. The group also reaffirmed their support for Governor Fubara’s administration and expressed confidence that he will continue to steer the state toward greater development despite the political challenges. The statement reads, Press Statement by the South East Youth Alliance for Fubara on the Political Crisis in Rivers State The South East Youth Alliance for Fubara expresses its deep concern over the ongoing political instability in Rivers State, arising from the feud between Governor Similayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. This unfortunate discord threatens to disrupt the progress that Governor Fubara has tirelessly worked to achieve and may plunge the state into unwarranted chaos. We stand in full support of Governor Fubara’s administration, which has remained focused on the development of Rivers State despite the recent challenges. Governor Fubara’s administration has already accomplished much in a short time, with numerous infrastructural projects that have been completed or are currently ongoing. Among these is the scoping for the commencement of the reconstruction of the Ngo internal roads, alongside a new contract for the extension of the road to Oyorokoto Town. This vital project will ease transportation challenges for residents and promote economic activity in the region. Additionally, the governor has undertaken the reconstruction of the critical section of the Unity Road, which connects Andoni to Ogoni and the Opobo/Nkoro Road. This effort not only reflects his commitment to improving access across the state but also reinforces his dedication to building sustainable infrastructure for all Rivers people. Another remarkable initiative is the construction of a General Hospital, aimed at bolstering healthcare services for the people of Rivers State. Furthermore, the administration’s efforts in constructing the Port Harcourt Ring Road, the Trans-Kalabari Road, and the Elele-Omoku Road are commendable. These roads are vital for enhancing connectivity across the state and stimulating economic growth by reducing travel time and fostering trade. In the education sector, Governor Fubara has shown great foresight by constructing government secondary schools in Bokori, Eneka, Omoku, Okrika, Emohua, and Ataba, as well as community secondary schools in Kumusha, Tai, and Rumuekperikom. His administration’s commitment to ensuring quality education for all children is also reflected in the construction of a twin hostel at the Nigerian Law School in Yenegoa. This will provide better living conditions for future legal practitioners from Rivers and beyond. The governor’s focus on healthcare is evident in the revival of the emergency ambulance services, ensuring that medical emergencies across the state are promptly attended to. Furthermore, his administration has upgraded 33 primary healthcare centers, ensuring that grassroots communities have access to basic healthcare. Governor Fubara has also made great strides in enhancing the state’s financial standing by increasing the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from ₦12 billion to an impressive ₦28 billion. This revenue increase reflects his administration’s commitment to prudent management of the state's resources while ensuring that Rivers continues to thrive economically. One of the governor’s notable accomplishments is his ongoing effort to complete 34 abandoned projects across 13 local government councils. By doing so, he has shown a commitment to continuity and the welfare of the people. Moreover, his infusion of ₦4 billion into the MSME sector to assist 3,000 youths in pursuing business opportunities is a significant move toward reducing unemployment and promoting entrepreneurship in the state. We also applaud Governor Fubara’s support for the Chairman of Obiakpor Local Government Area, Hon. Chijioke Ihunwo, a leader with the capacity to deliver on his mandate. Hon. Ihunwo has proven what it takes to drive development and prosperity within his local government, and we commend the governor for empowering him to achieve more. However, we are deeply concerned by the escalating feud between Governor Fubara and Minister Wike. It is disheartening to witness how personal disagreements could jeopardize the stability of the state. We urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and mediate in this matter before it spirals further out of control. It is crucial that both leaders focus on the greater good of Rivers State rather than personal interests. We reiterate our support for Governor Similayi Fubara and his development-driven leadership. We encourage him to continue his good work, knowing that the people of Rivers State stand behind him. The future of Rivers is bright under his leadership, and we are confident that, with unity and focus, the state will rise above this crisis and continue on its path to greater prosperity. Signed: Comrade Paschal Ugwu Chairman, South East Youth Alliance for Fubara.

The Private Developers Alliance (PDA) has cautioned the Managing Director of Eketeson Construction Company, Mr. Donatus Ekete, against using the media to attack the reputation of his contemporary, Mr. Tochukwu Nzekwe, following an incident in May 2024, where a driver for Mr. Nzekwe accidentally drove on a newly asphalted road constructed by Eketeson. The association described the media attacks as frivolous and baseless, citing the misrepresentation of events that led to the controversial arrest of Mr. Tochukwu Nzekwe, Managing Director of Toshel Construction Company Ltd. According to the group, the driver, Mr. Okechukwu Offor, who previously worked for Mr. Ekete, was severely beaten by security personnel under Mr. Ekete’s orders following the incident. In a statement signed by the president of the organization, Engr. Dr. Stanley Ogbuka, and distributed to newsmen on Sunday, the group maintained that Mr. Offor’s injuries were a result of unwarranted aggression, not an orchestrated plot to discredit Eketeson Construction. The statement further clarified that Mr. Offor, who had resigned from Eketeson after being owed six months' salary, had no ill intent when the incident occurred and was simply performing his duties as a driver for Toshel. The group also condemned the arrest of Mr. Nzekwe in September 2024, calling it unlawful and politically motivated. They expressed concern that the warrant issued by the magistrate court lacked legitimacy and appeared to be part of a broader campaign to smear Mr. Nzekwe’s name and reputation in the construction industry. The Private Developers Alliance (PDA) affirmed their support for Mr. Nzekwe and Toshel Construction Company Ltd; thus, called for a halt to the baseless attacks and urged all parties involved to seek legal resolution instead of resorting to media warfare. The association also emphasized the importance of upholding ethical standards in the industry to ensure fairness and justice for all stakeholders, adding that Toshel Construction Company is renowned for doing so. The statement reads: " PRESS RELEASE: A Rebuttal to the Slanderous Campaign Against Mr. Tochukwu Nzekwe and Toshel Construction Company Ltd. We, the Private Developers Alliance , wish to refute the unfounded allegations and malicious attacks orchestrated by Mr. Donatus Eketeson, CEO of Eketeson Construction Company Ltd, against Mr. Tochukwu Nzekwe, Managing Director of Toshel Construction Company Ltd. These defamatory actions aim to tarnish the impeccable reputation of Mr. Nzekwe and his company, using baseless media campaigns, following the unfortunate events of May 28, 2024. On that day, Mr. Okechukwu Offor, a driver employed by Toshel Construction Limited Human Resource management team and formerly an employee of Eketeson Construction, was viciously assaulted by armed security personnel on the orders of Mr. Eketeson. Mr. Offor's only error was inadvertently driving on the newly asphalted New-Artisan Road, a project managed by Eketeson Construction. The unprovoked attack left him grievously injured, nearly costing him his life, and he was rushed to the State CID clinic for emergency treatment. To date, Mr. Offor is still recovering from the severe injuries inflicted during the attack. It is pertinent to clarify that Mr. Offor had resigned from Eketeson Construction due to being owed six months' salary, a clear violation of labour law. His decision to join Toshel Construction was legitimate and devoid of any malice. Yet, in a desperate attempt to evade responsibility for the attack on Mr. Offor, Mr. Eketeson has sought to misrepresent the events of May 28, 2024, as part of a broader conspiracy aimed at discrediting his reputation. These allegations are not only false but an attempt to cover up Mr. Eketeson’s own wrongdoing. Adding insult to injury, on Friday, September 30, 2024, Mr. Tochukwu Nzekwe was unjustly arrested under questionable circumstances and detained at the Enugu Correctional Center, treated like a common criminal. This arrest, purportedly based on a warrant issued by a magistrate court, is highly suspect and merits thorough investigation. The sequence of events clearly suggests that this arrest was engineered by Mr. Eketeson in an effort to further defame Mr. Nzekwe and weaken his standing in the public eye. Toshel Construction Company Ltd has always upheld the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and quality in its operations. No amount of spurious media campaigns or malicious tactics will succeed in discrediting the name of a company that has consistently demonstrated its commitment to excellence. Toshel Construction will continue to serve as a pillar of quality and reliability in the construction industry. The allegations that the events of May 28 were orchestrated to undermine Mr. Eketeson’s credibility are patently false and defamatory. They are designed to distract from Mr. Eketeson’s failure to meet his obligations to Mr. Offor, who is still suffering from the injuries inflicted under his orders. Such attempts to shift blame will not succeed in the face of the truth. We condemn, in the strongest terms, the use of violence to resolve personal or professional disputes. The Private Developers Alliance will continue to seek justice for both Mr. Nzekwe and Mr. Offor. Legal proceedings are underway to challenge the legality of Mr. Nzekwe’s detention, and we are committed to ensuring that those responsible for the attack on Mr. Offor are held accountable. No individual should be permitted to use influence to manipulate the legal system for personal gain or to avoid facing the consequences of their actions. We therefore declare unequivocally that the malicious attempts to destroy the integrity of Mr. Tochukwu Nzekwe and Toshel Construction Company Ltd will fail. We stand with Mr. Nzekwe and will not waver in our pursuit of justice. The public deserves to know the truth, and we will see to it that justice is done. Signed, Engr Dr Stanley Ogbuka Private Developers Association

Governors Across the 36 States Urged to Emulate Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah's Progressive Approach to Healthcare Development. The Chief Executive Officer of First Choice Afro Villa Ltd and Mburubu Construction Company Ltd, High Chief Dr. Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe, made this call on Monday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, during the Kanu Heart Foundation Walk. The event, an annual awareness program on heart diseases, was organized by the Kanu Heart Foundation. The foundation, established in 2000 by ex-Super Eagles player and Nigerian legend Kanu Nwankwo, aims to help underprivileged African children and young adults with various heart conditions access life-saving cardiac surgeries in Nigeria and other African countries. In his address to newsmen, Dr. Onuokaibe highlighted that healthcare is one of the major challenges affecting people's livelihoods. He emphasized that prioritizing healthcare across all government sectors could lead to significant improvements nationwide. He praised Kanu Nwankwo, the founder of the Kanu Heart Foundation and organizer of the event, for his selfless contributions to Nigeria. "Kanu's passion, stemming from his own experience undergoing heart surgery during his football career, is truly admirable," Dr. Onuokaibe stated. "His survival and continued dedication to helping others in similar circumstances deserve acknowledgment." The business leader called for greater support and collaboration across all sectors to aid the foundation in achieving its mission. "We are here to stand in solidarity with a Nigerian hero who has made significant sacrifices for our nation. Kanu Nwankwo has given so much, and we are here to support him. I have seen firsthand his passion for helping people with heart conditions, having gone through it himself after the Atlanta '96 Olympics. Since then, he has worked relentlessly to ensure that others can survive and live healthy lives. I urge the government at all levels, corporations, and traditional institutions to partner with the Kanu Heart Foundation to save more lives." Dr. Onuokaibe also commended the efforts of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State in the health sector. He highlighted the ongoing construction of the 250-bed, ultra-modern quaternary health facility known as the Enugu International Hospital, calling it a landmark achievement for any governor in West Africa. He further explained that the hospital, when completed, would promote medical tourism to the state and enable advanced surgeries for complex health issues, particularly heart-related conditions. "I commend Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State for spearheading the construction of the largest hospital in West Africa, the Enugu International Hospital. This facility will include a state-of-the-art cardiology department capable of treating chronic heart diseases and performing advanced surgeries. It showcases the governor’s determination and commitment to improving healthcare and leaving a lasting impact." "Imagine if similar efforts were undertaken by governors across the country—there would undoubtedly be a positive shift."

The Managing Director of Powell Homes and Shelters Limited, Architect Onyekachi Chibuikem Emmanuel, has called on the governments of the Southeast region of Nigeria to regularize the levies estate developers, property owners, and investors pay to the youth of various communities in the zone in the name of "Ogbanecheagu Levy." Arch. Emmanuel, who also doubles as the Publicity Secretary of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria Enugu State Chapter, made the call during a live interactive program on 100.3 Udoka FM, Enugu, on Tuesday, stressing that the exorbitant levies, which often lack uniformity and proper coordination, amount to huge impediments on community development and the real estate business in particular. According to Arch. Emmanuel, some communities have multiple rounds of Ogbanecheagu Levies, and sometimes a new regime of the Ogbanecheagu Levy enforcement teams tend to deny knowledge of the transactions and payments made to the previous regime(s), thereby leading to double or multiple payments by the developers after a few years. He further stated that, though the practice may have crept into the Southeast from the Southwest where the practice is prevalent, it is not outrightly wrong, but the problem is the abuse. In his words, "We find some communities these days doing multiple rounds of Ogbanecheagu fees because the method of selection of the enforcement agents is usually by elections in the host communities. So when you buy a property and you are quick to pay the Ogbanecheagu fees, if you arrive to develop the same property in a few years, some other groups would still come to check if you have paid. Unfortunately, sometimes even when you show proof of payment with a receipt, they would tell you that they are not aware of it, that it’s not an authentic receipt. Meanwhile, they were not in power at the time you paid." "This is one of the areas the concept of Ogbanecheagu is being abused—a lot of extortion from investors and developers. But if it’s properly harnessed and regulated, it’s actually an idea that will go a long way in enhancing security and development in the communities." The Powell Homes CEO equally revealed that estate developers, property owners, and investors currently bear a lot of costs, providing their own security despite the huge amounts paid to the Ogbanecheagu youth, who, by the design of the concept, ought to further community development and, most importantly, provide security, as the name implies, "Ogbanecheagu," meaning, "the age grades safeguarding the land." However, he equally revealed that investors who buy lands from Powell Homes and Shelters Limited don’t bother about the Ogbanecheagu fees and the headaches associated with it because the company takes care of it. The estate maestro maintained that an intervention by the government and community authorities to ensure uniform payments across the Southeast will go a long way in addressing the challenge of undue extortions in the industry.

It is said that, The true test of a society's values is how it treats those who serve its justice ". In Enugu State, magistrates, who form the backbone of the state’s judiciary system, are facing a range of challenges that have left many feeling abandoned by the very system they serve. Despite holding one of the most critical roles in the administration of justice, these officers of the law grapple with conditions that undermine their dignity, threaten their safety, and make it difficult for them to carry out their duties effectively. One magistrate, who wished to remain anonymous, shared his frustration: “We are expected to uphold the law, to be impartial, and to serve justice. But how can we be expected to do so when we ourselves are treated so unjustly? Our salaries are barely enough to cover basic living expenses. There is no official accommodation, no official cars, and we are often left to fend for ourselves in dangerous circumstances.” This magistrate's account reveals a troubling reality. *The highest-paid magistrates in the state reportedly earn less than ₦400,000 and the least earn less than ₦200,000 monthly—a sum that falls drastically short in the face of the* ever-increasing cost of living. With rent for a modest three-bedroom apartment in areas like Abakpa Nike exceeding ₦1.3 million per year, the financial strain becomes evident. Moreover, without the provision of official housing, many magistrates are forced to live in substandard, unsafe neighborhoods, leaving them vulnerable to threats and intimidation from those they might have sentenced in court. It was gathered that a series of meetings were held with the state government and various presentations made regarding the plights of our magistrates, but to no avail. Confirmed reports also have it that the Magistrates’ Association of Nigeria, Enugu State chapter, has written several times to the Governor over this, but no positive result has been received. Confirming the report, a top staff member from Enugu State Government House, who also requested anonymity, confirmed that the magistrates have written several times to the State Government but didn’t ascertain the responses gotten. He stated that issues of neglect towards the field marshals of justice administration have been a thing of concern, as our magistrates and their courts need attention. According to him, “These issues have been a long-standing problem. It’s no secret that magistrates have been underfunded for years. The current administration has been aware of these challenges, and while promises were made early on, not much has changed. I have seen situations whereby magistrates drive themselves to distant courts, often through areas notorious for crime, with no security detail. It's a serious concern that hasn’t received the attention it deserves.” Beyond the lack of housing and transport, the physical and mental strain on magistrates has grown. With no official vehicles since 2013, these legal professionals often rely on public transportation, exposing them to humiliation and potential attacks. The story of how one magistrate, who was on his way to Ogbede Magistrate Court, was publicly disgraced when he was doused with palm oil by fellow passengers, another magistrate was ejected from his rented apartment, while a co-tenant once fought a magistrate in her rented apartment and still called the police for the magistrate, all reflect the kind of degrading situations they sometimes face. Also speaking, a practicing lawyer in Enugu, who also spoke on the condition of anonymity, voiced his concerns, stating: “The welfare of magistrates should be a top priority for the state government. How can we expect justice to thrive when the very people responsible for it are struggling? It’s unacceptable that magistrates, who have such a crucial role in the justice system, are treated so poorly. The government must address this immediately—there needs to be a complete review of their welfare, from accommodation to security and remuneration.” This lawyer’s call for action reflects the sentiments of many in the legal community. The inadequacies in the system not only impact the magistrates themselves but also threaten the quality of justice dispensed in the state. Without adequate compensation, security, and housing, magistrates face personal risks that may compromise their independence and effectiveness in court. The worst of it all is that, they are not regarded as judicial officers where as, they do the risky job of having the first interface with criminals, doing the difficult job of processing evidence before such matters gets to judges. Despite these challenges, Enugu’s magistrates continue to serve, albeit in difficult conditions. They, like other civil servants, carry the burden of ensuring that the rule of law is upheld, even as they struggle to maintain their own dignity in a system that has seemingly forgotten them; a system that also bars them from doing other things except their job. The need for the state government to act swiftly cannot be overstated. The continued neglect of magistrates is not just a matter of poor wages or a lack of resources—it is an injustice against those tasked with delivering justice to the people. It is time for their cries to be heard and for their welfare to be prioritized, this is because, "A fair society is one where those who administer justice are justly treated."

The Managing Director of Powell Homes and Shelters Ltd, Arc Chibuikem Onyekachi, has said that the main focus of his company is to provide affordable housing for residents of Enugu and other parts of the country. Chibuikem, who noted that real estate must not be expensive to be real estate, said this during a breakfast meeting with realtors drawn from Enugu and other parts of the South East on Friday. "When you come to real estate, I don't believe that real estate should be expensive for it to be regarded as real estate. Instead of clustering in the city center, affordable housing can be provided in the outskirts. "When you go to Dubai, you have downtown Dubai and they live fine. So, I see no reason why we should all cluster in the city center, trying to mount pressure on very scarce infrastructure when we can actually open up other places, which will be more affordable. "The only difference is that we will have to commute from there to wherever we need to be. So, our passion is to make housing affordable for the people," he said. On the issue of quacks in the real estate industry, Chibuikem, who is also the Publicity and Organizing Secretary of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), praised the efforts of the Enugu State government under Peter Mbah for signing the anti-land racketeering law in the state. "Every profession you find in the world has quacks, and you have people who abide by the ethics of that profession. It is on that note that we have put together an event like this, where we bring in people who are realtors and would-be realtors to sit down together and share knowledge. "This is to ensure that everybody is up to speed on the dos and don'ts because when somebody is not properly informed, you won't blame them for wrong actions. Some of these people sell fraudulent lands because they do not know better. "In Enugu, we are on track thanks to the current government, with the recent law that was signed—the land-grabbing law—which goes to secure investors' investments. That is a step in the right direction. "That gives confidence to the investor. When they know that they have a land title that is recognized by the government, there will be no such issue as losing your investment for any reason." On his part, the traditional ruler of Amankanu Community in Nkanu East Local Government Area, Igwe Bennett Ikenna, hailed Powell Homes and Shelters for their humane and fantastic approach to real estate. He, however, urged other real estate firms to take a cue from the company by ensuring that due diligence is done before going into any community for business. "I advise everyone, especially the real estate developers, to approach the traditional ruler of the community where they want to buy their land. He is the one who knows the state of the land in question. When that is done, you won't have problems. "Don't just follow anyone who says he has land. The economy is bad, and people tend to do anything to make money. But youths should find something meaningful to do with their lives rather than waiting for who to extort."
