It was Norman Peale who once argued that "the more you practice the art of thankfulness, the more you have something to be thankful for". The Member Representing Enugu North and South Federal Constituency, Hon Chimaobi Sam Atu, of the Labor Party, gave meanings to those words when he embarked on a "Thank You Tour" to the 26 wards in his federal constituency between 25th August and 4th of September 2024. The essence of the visit was not to seek votes, but to thank voters for their unwavering support and sacrifices during the February 2023 general elections in which him and other labor party candidates emerged victorious. During his visit toward 5 Enugu North LGA, Atu maintained that "power belongs to the people" and he had come back to appreciate those who put him in power. A quick takeaway from his speeches in all the wards visited was the fact that in democratic society, the voters decide who governs them. This humble labor party legislator didn't hesitate a moment to acknowledge that simple fact. Hon. Atu actions are uncommon among his folks. What is very common is the attitude of politicians to develop short memories after winning an election. Once the victory is secured, the poor voters don't get to see them until another circle of elections where bags of salt and inferior clothing materials are shared with women who deserve to be happy at their old age. What we had in the past was a situation where lawmakers would configure their phones to receive calls from selected contacts. Some may even argue that such is still the case with some lawmakers and political office holders. Hon Atu, we learnt, takes phone calls from everyone who cares to call. Expectedly, the tour gave him the opportunity to interact first hand with his constituents. For most of the voters, the idea of a politician coming back to appreciate the voters after an election was unprecedented. In fact, available evidence has shown that no politician in the history of Enugu North and South Federal Constituency ever came back to appreciate the voters who put them in power. One amazing thing about the tour was the outpouring of commendations he got from stakeholders across party lines. For example, during his visit to ward 4, Enugu North, a former Deputy Speaker who is from a different political divide acknowledged that Hon Atu had shown leadership within the last one year. In Amechi, a chieftain of another political party also took time to appreciate the unwavering commitment of the lawmaker since he assumed office. The story is the same in other wards where people kept pouring encumion on him. It is safe to therefore conclude that Hon Atu's political journey to the National Assembly is full of many firsts. • 1st politician in the history of his constituency and the state to come back to appreciate voters in all the wards. • First new lawmaker in the history of federal representation in the entire Enugu State to move a motion on the first day of sitting. • First new lawmaker in the history of his constituency to start the construction of two roads within the first one year. Sincerely, Rt. Hon. Atu is a school of thought that we should all learn from. Without doubts, Atu has shown capacity and dynamism expected of a young political leader. By Sebastine Okafor Chukwuebuka Bookastro Ogugu community, nestled in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, is a place rich in cultural heritage yet burdened by underdevelopment and a high poverty rate. For many years, this once-vibrant community grappled with a leadership crisis following the death of its traditional ruler, Igwe Godwin Ochi, in 1999. The absence of a clear leader created a vacuum that severely hindered progress, leaving the community with little government presence and a declining infrastructure. This leadership crisis, which spanned over two decades, finally came to an end on January 14, 2024, when Chief Aloysius Chidozie Ogbonna Jnr, known widely as Ikemba Enugu, emerged as the traditional ruler-elect. Chief Ogbonna’s emergence as the Igwe-elect was not a mere coincidence but the culmination of years of effort by committed leaders within the community. The late President General of the Town Union, Chief Paully Ofido, along with other prominent community members, took decisive steps to address the leadership void that had plagued Ogugu for so long. Their efforts bore fruit on December 20, 2024, when Justice C.I. Nwobodo of the Enugu State High Court issued an order mandating the Town Union, also known as Opuga, to conduct fresh elections within a specified timeframe. The election, which was keenly contested, resulted in a landslide victory for Chief Ogbonna, who secured 867 votes, far outpacing his closest competitor, Gidim Godwin Egbo, who garnered 363 votes. The election of Chief Ogbonna was greeted with joy and relief across the community, signaling the dawn of a new era. For the people of Ogugu, the election represented the selection of a dynamic leader with a proven track record of community service and development initiatives. Chief Ogbonna had long been involved in various development projects in Ogugu, even before assuming his new role. These initiatives included the installation of a community borehole, which provided clean drinking water to many households, and the reworking of transformers, which helped alleviate the erratic power supply that had long been a source of frustration. All the cables were stolen and damaged, but he replaced them and fixed the transformers, many of which had been vandalized, leaving the community in darkness for over three years. He also cleared a large portion of the accumulated bills with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) for the community. One of Chief Ogbonna's most significant contributions to the community has been his sponsorship of the Anukenyi Festival, a triennial cultural event that plays a crucial role in fostering unity and celebrating the rich heritage of Ogugu. His financial support ensured the festival was revived after years of neglect, bringing together the community in a shared sense of identity and pride. Chief Ogbonna also undertook the renovation of Ogugu’s only secondary school, which had fallen into disrepair due to years of neglect. His efforts transformed the school into a place where students could once again receive a quality education. In the year 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, He donated over 1,000 bags of rice to almost all the households in Ogugu when hunger threatened to affect people across the world due to series of lockdown imposed by the Government as a way of Curbing the spread of the virus . In addition to these infrastructural improvements, Chief Ogbonna established a neighborhood watch group to enhance the security of the community. He provided the group with modern equipment to ensure that they could effectively carry out their duties. His dedication to community safety has contributed to a sense of calm and security that had long been absent from Ogugu. He also provided clothing for the neighborhood watch, paid for their office, and gave them Five brand new motorcycles. Ogugu neighborhood watch also received support from Chief Ogbonna’s cousin, Hon. Chief Fortune Ogbonna, who donated wireless communication gadgets, along with other equipment, to enhance their service delivery. All these efforts were in support of the ìgwè elect, aimed at developing our community. Moreover, his substantial financial contributions to the local Catholic Church have aided in the construction of a new church building, reflecting his commitment to both spiritual and social development. Despite being a Pentecostal faithful, he installed a borehole for the Catholic community at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ogugu as well as Solar Light. Chief Ogbonna’s influence extends beyond the infrastructural realm, as he has long been a patron of local sports, particularly football. For over a decade, he has funded the Ogugu Football Competition, an event that has not only provided entertainment but also helped foster teamwork and camaraderie among the youth. Each year, Chief Ogbonna spends over ₦3 million to ensure the tournament’s success, and his financial commitment has made a significant impact on the lives of many young athletes. He also spent over 4 million when Ogugu, a football loving community, honored all her present and past heroes with football match and medals. One of the most commendable aspects of Chief Ogbonna’s leadership is his commitment to education. Over the years, he has paid WAEC fees for more than 400 indigent students from Ogugu, ensuring that financial hardship does not stand in the way of their academic success. His generosity extends to bursary payments for undergraduate students and covering hospital bills for community members in need. Chief Ogbonna’s compassion for his people is evident in every aspect of his leadership, and his willingness to invest in the future of Ogugu has endeared him to many. The election of Chief Ogbonna as the traditional ruler-elect has opened the door to further development in Ogugu. Shortly after his victory, Hon. Jane Eneh, the member representing Awgu North Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, pledged to attract additional government projects to the community . This promise came on the heels of her earlier success in securing the construction of a secondary school block in Ogugu. Her commitment to the community was further demonstrated when she facilitated the establishment of a Type 3 hospital, a significant healthcare facility that will serve Ogugu and surrounding areas. The inputs and hardworks of some sons of Ogugu such as :Dr Ifechukwu Udeh, Dr Augustine Okolie, amognst other stakeholders in Amoli-Owelli - Ugbo - Ogugu Political Ward made this manifest after Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah showed commitment towards revitalizing the health education and other sectors in the state. I and likewise other community members strongly believe that, many things would come to us under Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah as we now have a traditional ruler elect,in Chief Aloysius Chidozie Ogbonna ;who is developmental inclined like the Governor. The establishment of this hospital was a monumental achievement for a community that had long been neglected by government agencies. Ogugu’s residents, who had been without access to quality healthcare for years, greeted the news with joy and appreciation. The presence of the Type 3 hospital in Ogugu is expected to significantly improve healthcare outcomes for the community, providing services that were previously out of reach for many. Adding to this wave of development, a daughter of Ogugu, Lolo Gloria Uchediya-Adaeze Nweke, together with her husband, Chief Fabian Nweke (Akụ ruo ụlọ 1 of Amabor Obodo Asaa), spearheaded the rehabilitation of the community’s only hospital, located in Ibite village. This hospital, built over 40 years ago, had been in a dilapidated state for decades, rendering it almost useless. Thanks to the efforts of Lolo Nweke and her husband, the hospital was not only restored but also equipped with modern medical facilities. The hospital's grand reopening on August 3, 2024, was attended by several political, religious, and traditional leaders, including Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu, the representative for Awgu, Aninri, and Oji River Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives. During the ceremony, Hon. Onwuegbu expressed his surprise at the level of underdevelopment in Ogugu and pledged to work on improving the road leading to Ibite village. Speaking during the commisioning of the renovated Ogugu community Health Centre Ibite, Lolo Gloria Uchediya Adaeze - Nweke, a US-based Medical practitioner, who is also a cousin to the Ìgwè elect, attributed the emergence of Chief Ogbonna as one of the reasons behind her what she did. She posited that though, the idea was long in her heart and mind, but seeing that the community elected a traiblazer to lead them, she started it with the support of her husband. Similarly, the Ogugu Community Primary School in Amanabo received a comprehensive makeover, courtesy of Gidim Ejike Okonkwo, a proud son of the community. The newly reconstructed and fully equipped primary school was unveiled on August 10, 2024, in a ceremony attended by community leaders and well-wishers. During the event, Gidim Okonkwo attributed his decision to undertake the project to the inspiring leadership of Chief Ogbonna, whose commitment to the community had motivated him to contribute in his own way. Gidim Okonkwo's intervention in the rehabilitation of Ogugu Community Primary School was significantly supported by his wife, Mrs. Chika Okonkwo. It is essential for readers to know a little about our noble daughter and wife. Chika Okonkwo is a highly skilled Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), based in Baltimore, Maryland, and affiliated with MedStar Health. She is an expert in treating mental health conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, schizophrenia, and substance use disorders. Her care approach includes psychopharmacology, cognitive behavioral therapy, and psychotherapy, focusing on issues like suicidal ideation, anger management, and gender-specific mental health care. Chika serves at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, where she provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and treatments. Her practice is located at 201 East University Parkway, Baltimore, MD, 21218, making her an exemplary figure in her field and a pillar of support for her husband’s community efforts. Looking ahead, more development initiatives are on the horizon for Ogugu. Chief Paschal Ochi is set to launch a scholarship program aimed at supporting the most academically gifted but financially disadvantaged students in the community. The program will provide these students with full sponsorship from secondary school through to university, helping to cultivate the next generation of leaders and professionals. This initiative, which Chief Ochi has successfully implemented in other communities, will be formalized in Ogugu, further enhancing educational opportunities for its youth. The community’s long-neglected borehole in Ibite village has also received much-needed repairs, ensuring that the villagers have access to clean water. This is yet another example of how Chief Ogbonna’s leadership is addressing the practical needs of his people. His commitment to uplifting Ogugu is further evidenced by his sponsorship of five students pursuing Master’s degrees at various universities across Nigeria, as well as two PhD students, one of whom is the author of this piece. As Ogugu continues to experience unprecedented growth and development under Chief Ogbonna’s leadership, there is a palpable sense of optimism about the future. The coronation of Chief Aloysius Chidozie Ogbonna Jnr. is expected to herald even more progress, with plans for further infrastructural projects and capacity-building programs in the works. It is no surprise, then, that Ohaneze Nd'Igbo has honored him with the title “Ikemba Enugu,” a name that perfectly encapsulates his leadership, generosity, and vision for his community. Chief Ogbonna’s reign promises to be one defined by progress and unity, as he continues to leverage his influence and resources for the betterment of Ogugu. His legacy is already being written in the hearts of the people, whose lives he has touched through his philanthropy, foresight, and total commitment to development. With the support of his people and fellow leaders, Ogugu’s future is brighter than ever.

The people of Obegueze Amankanu Amurri Autonomous Community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State have called on the State Government to take over some unused lands in their community that have been used by criminal elements to perpetrate crimes. The community made this call on Monday during their general meeting, held at St. Anne’s Primary School, Obegueze Amankanu Amurri. Addressing the press, the traditional ruler of the community, His Royal Highness, Igwe Linus H.C. Nwobodo, stated that some criminal elements in their community have started perpetrating all sorts of evil, such as the sale of unauthorized lands, kidnapping, robbery, and other social vices, using their names, which he said is portraying the community in a bad light. He stated that the community has done its best to curb such nefarious practices, but much more can still be done by the State Government to end them. The monarch praised Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his outstanding leadership in the state, adding that the Governor has shown his dedication to fulfilling all his campaign promises, naming him "Oji Egbe Eje Agha." "We, as a community, have come together to put an end to some illegal activities perpetrated by some people just to give us a bad name." "The recent happenings in our community, such as kidnapping, illegal sale of lands, and so on, are not right because lands cannot be sold without proper verification of the owners." "We, as a community, cannot partake in remunerations made from the purchase of illegally sold lands, and we have decided to ensure that thorough verifications are made to ascertain the true owners of any property before it is sold." "We have a lot of unused lands in our community, and since every land is owned by the government, we also want the State Government to come and take some, especially those used by criminal elements as hideouts." "We, as a community, are happy with the leadership of Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who has been doing his best to fulfill all his campaign promises. He is the 'Oji Egbe Eje Agha' that we know." The monarch also called on the good people of Obegueze Amankanu Amurri to foster goodwill amongst themselves, as they can only progress when there is tranquility among them. In his remarks, the President-General of the community, Hon. Victor Okechukwu, said the meeting became necessary due to the rising insecurity in the community, which, if not stopped, could bring calamity upon them. He stated that a lot of lands in the community are unused, which some criminals are using to perpetrate evil on people, making it necessary for the State Government to come and use them for the good of all. "These lands, which were once seen as a blessing to our community, have unfortunately become a curse due to the criminal activities taking place there. It is no longer just about unused land but about the safety and security of our people. We need the government’s intervention to ensure these areas are transformed into assets that benefit everyone, rather than being exploited by criminals." Hon. Okechukwu also reinforced the decision of the community to end the Fulani invasion of their land, as many ungodly actions towards their people are often linked to them. He also called for unity and reiterated the commitment of his leadership to fostering peace among warring villages, adding that all pending court cases have been withdrawn and out-of-court settlements have been made. He, however, called on all the good people of Obegueze Amankanu Amurri Autonomous Community to join hands in supporting the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah wherever they are, as he has, through his leadership, shown that he is an answered prayer to the State. "We cannot afford to remain divided at a time like this. Our unity is our strength, and it is only by coming together that we can truly address the challenges facing our community. We have already made significant strides by resolving disputes out of court, and I believe this spirit of cooperation will continue to guide us as we work towards a safer and more prosperous community." "I am calling on all our sons and daughters all over the world to join hands in supporting Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for he has, through his good works, shown leadership readiness for transformation and emancipation of our dear state." "He has continued to show that he is an answered prayer to our dear state." Also speaking, one of the community leaders, Chief Lazarus Mbaagu, appreciated Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his numerous interventions in the community, which, he said, is one of the reasons they still breathe. He stated that the Governor has been using security agencies to clamp down on criminals and other hoodlums trying to bring the community down. Chief Mbaagu also said the community is willing to give more lands to the State Government for infrastructural development. "We recognize the importance of development, and we believe that by offering these lands to the government, we are not only securing our community but also opening up opportunities for growth and progress. The infrastructural projects that could be initiated here would not only create jobs but also enhance the living standards of our people." "We are committed to supporting Governor Mbah's vision for Enugu State. His dedication to the welfare of our people is evident, and as a community, we are ready to partner with the government to ensure that peace and development are sustained in Obegueze Amankanu Amurri."

Real estate practitioners in Enugu State have called on the government to intensify efforts in eliminating unqualified individuals from the real estate sector to ensure its growth and stability. The Chief Executive Officer of Powell Homes and Shelters Limited, Mr. Chukwubuikem Onyekachi, made this appeal on Thursday during a chat with newsmen in Enugu. He expressed deep concern over the increasing number of unqualified practitioners infiltrating the real estate market, which he said poses a significant threat to the integrity and professionalism of the industry. According to Mr. Onyekachi, “The proliferation of quacks in Enugu’s real estate sector has reached alarming levels, undermining the credibility of genuine professionals and creating instability in the housing market.” He emphasized that immediate and stringent action is needed to protect both investors and residents from the adverse effects of these unqualified operators. Mr. Onyekachi, who also serves as the Publicity Secretary of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria, Enugu State chapter, highlighted the importance of upholding standards in the industry. “The presence of quacks not only destabilizes the market but also erodes the trust that is essential for healthy real estate transactions,” he remarked. He proposed that the state government should enforce stricter regulations and licensing requirements to curb the activities of these unqualified individuals. “By implementing rigorous standards and ensuring compliance, the government can safeguard the interests of both property developers and consumers, fostering a more reliable and secure real estate environment,” he added. Mr. Onyekachi urged the Enugu State Government to take decisive action by formulating and enforcing policies that address these challenges. “It is imperative for the government to intervene and regulate the real estate sector effectively, thereby promoting sustainable development and enhancing the state’s economic prospects,” he concluded. He also commended Governor Ndubuisi for his outstanding performance in the state, which he said has been instrumental in attracting investors and promoting economic growth. “Governor Ndubuisi’s efforts have significantly contributed to attracting investors to the state, fostering economic growth and development,” he remarked.

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and former chairman in Enugu State, Dr. Ben Nwoye, has cautioned the South East Vice Chairman of the party, Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, over what he called inappropriate utterances capable of causing serious political instability in the state, especially among the party faithful. Dr. Nwoye made this known to newsmen on Monday during an interview in Enugu. Recall that a fresh crisis has bedeviled the Enugu State chapter of the party recently when a group of state executive committee members of the party removed the state party chairman, Barr. Ugochukwu Agballa, and nine others. The group, seeing that Barr. Ugochukwu Agballa and his accomplices did not want to leave office, went to court and obtained an ex parte order barring them and his group from answering as executives of the party or coming close to party functions. The court order irked the Zonal Vice Chairman of the party, Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, who went on national television and took a jibe at the judiciary over the ex parte order before petitioning Justice C.V.C. Ezeugwu of the Enugu State High Court with the National Judicial Council. Speaking with newsmen, Dr. Nwoye said that the national leadership of the party should warn Dr. Arodiogbu against making statements capable of causing a serious crisis in the party. According to him, "Such utterances are reckless and could escalate tensions within the party, leading to instability that we cannot afford." He posited that Arodiogbu, as a leader, should be aware that matters already in court cannot be discussed in public, especially in the manner in which he has been doing. "Discussing court matters in public is not only incongruous but also a blatant disregard for legal processes," he added, emphasizing that this behavior is unacceptable. Dr. Nwoye further emphasized the importance of maintaining decorum and respect for legal proceedings, stating that any attempt to undermine the judiciary could have far-reaching consequences not just for the party, but for the democratic process as a whole. "We must respect the judiciary's role in maintaining order and justice; otherwise, we risk undermining the very foundations of our democracy," he said. He urged all party members to focus on fostering unity and working towards the common goal of strengthening the party in Enugu State, warning that any actions that contribute to division or instability would be met with appropriate disciplinary measures. "Let us not lose sight of our shared objectives. Unity is paramount, and any conduct that threatens it will not be tolerated," he concluded.

The member representing Awgu, Aninri, and Oji River Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Anayo Onwuegbu, has assured the people of Ogugu Ntu-egbenese Ancient Kingdom in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State of urgent intervention on the road leading to Ibite Village of the community. Hon. Onwuegbu made this known on Saturday during the unveiling ceremony of Ogugu Community Health Centre, which was reconstructed, rehabilitated, and equipped by Chief Fabian Nweke (Akụ ruo ụlọ, Ikenga Amabor Obodo Asaa) and his wife, Lolo Gloria Uchediya - Adaeze Nweke. He stated that the community is seriously lacking in infrastructural development due to prolonged negligence, adding that it is time for development to come to the land. Hon. Onwuegbu urged the community leaders to rally around and outline programs that will engender disruptive development within the next few years while also calling for support towards the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. Regarding Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah's administration, he described him as a working governor whose developmental programs cut across all the wards in all the sectors, adding that there is a need for the community's stakeholders to cue in behind Governor Mbah's 10km of road project per ward. Hon. Onwuegbu also commended Mrs. Gloria Nweke and her family for their kind gesture, promising to provide 24-hour water supply to the hospital, which is the only functional healthcare center in the community. According to Onwuegbu, "I am very elated to be here but also uncomfortable. This is because, when I was invited by the Igwe elect, I was happy as the project is all about the people but, seeing the dilapidated nature of the roads and other infrastructure, I felt bad. Ogugu Ntu-egbenese is an ancient community but very backward in infrastructural development. Development is a collective effort, and we must all play our parts to see our community thrive. I will start by trying my best to get the government's intervention on this road. As a civil engineer by training, profession, and practice, I have assessed the road, and I will do my best." "You have a lot of notable sons and daughters like your Igwe elect, Chief Aloysius Chidozie Ogbonna Jnr., Dr. Ifechukwu Udeh, Dr. Augustine Okolie, amongst others. They must rally around and get development for this community." "However, there is a need to cue in behind Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah's administration with our utmost dedication. He has plans that will touch all the sectors in Enugu State, especially the 10km of road per ward Policy, which this community needs to cue behind. Enugu is blessed with a working governor in Barr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah." "I want to commend the family of Chief Fabian Nweke for this gesture and want others to emulate the same. Ogugu Ntu-egbenese Ancient Kingdom needs infrastructural attention." Hon. Onwuegbu also highlighted the potential economic benefits that improved infrastructure would bring to the community. "Better roads and healthcare facilities will attract businesses and investors, creating job opportunities and improving the overall standard of living in Ogugu Ntu-egbenese Ancient Kingdom. Let us seize this moment to build a prosperous future for our children," he added. Earlier in his remarks, the Igwe elect of the community, Chief Aloysius Chidozie Ogbonna Jnr., thanked God for the progress witnessed in the community so far. He stated that the community, which urgently needs attention from the government, is open for partnership with her sons, daughters, in-laws, and friends on developmental programs that will emancipate their people. He thanked Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his efforts in improving the life of the Enugu citizens, as the Governor is currently building a type C hospital for the community. The President General of Ogugu Progressive Union General Assembly (OPUGA), Engr. Bennett Ude, stated that the community hospital has faced numerous infrastructural deficits, ranging from dilapidated buildings to a near-total absence of drugs and other crucial equipment, which he said was a nightmare for the community. He stated that Mrs. Gloria's intervention has made her the community's Florence Nightingale and healthcare ambassador plenipotentiary. "For some time now, our community has faced numerous infrastructural challenges, ranging from dilapidated buildings to a near-total absence of genuine drugs and equipment. This situation aggravated the poverty rate and misery index of Ogugu community. Our sister Gloria Nweke has, through this show of love, become our own Florence Nightingale (the lady with the lamp) and also our healthcare ambassador plenipotentiary in view of the services and empathy she unconditionally rendered to our community." "Her reconstruction and rehabilitation of the hospital include reroofing, retiling, installation of Almaco windows, installation of iron doors, curtains, and bedsheets, amongst others." In her address, Mrs. Gloria Uchediya - Adaeze Nweke expressed her happiness over the completion of such a marvelous project for her community, which she said troubled her for a long time due to its previous sorry state, adding that her gesture is all about improving the quality of care and services for her people. Mrs. Nweke also applauded her husband for his support during the project, thus calling for unity, peace, and progress of the community. The event also had side attractions such as music performances, cultural displays, and commendation words from the community leaders amongst others.

The group disclosed this call in a press statement signed by its National President and Secretary, Comrade Dika David and Comrade Pedro Ugwu, as part of their resolutions during their recent stakeholders meeting held in Enugu. According to the group, "There is a sacrosanct need for all stakeholders from Nkanu extraction to identify with us through registration as members." They emphasized that partnership with the group by gifted sons and daughters from Nkanu extraction would help them overcome obstacles brought upon them due to disunity. The NYO also beckoned on the executive Governor of Enugu State, Barr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, to redesign his recruitment policies in ways that will accommodate more youths, especially those from Nkanu extraction. By: The Enugu Chapter President, National Association of Seadogs, Mr. Joe Mazeli A recent Free Medical Outreach Program conducted by the Sancta Bermuda Deck of the National Association of Seadogs in Ugwu Na Agbo Community, Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State, has brought to light the dire health challenges faced by the residents of this rural community. The outreach, conducted in collaboration with the National Blood Service Commission, aimed to provide essential medical services and raise awareness about critical health issues. However, the findings from this initiative underscore an urgent need for sustained government intervention to address the community’s severe healthcare deficiencies. Our team encountered a community in desperate need of medical attention. The lack of local medical facilities has left residents vulnerable to a host of untreated ailments. Many of these individuals, predominantly peasant farmers, lack access to basic healthcare services. This dire situation has resulted in widespread health issues that could easily be mitigated with proper medical care. One of the most alarming discoveries was the high prevalence of eye diseases. Our outreach revealed that approximately 85% of the villagers examined in Ugwu Na Agbo suffer from various eye conditions. During our program, 82 individuals were examined by an ophthalmologist, and 45 were provided with medicated eyeglasses. A foreign body was also removed from one person's eye. This high incidence of eye problems points to a significant, ongoing health crisis that requires immediate and continuous attention. In addition to eye care, our outreach attended to 153 adults as general outpatients. These individuals presented with conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, acute febrile illnesses, and arthritis—ailments that are exacerbated by the community’s lack of access to regular medical care. The absence of nearby medical facilities forces residents to travel long distances for treatment, often resulting in delayed or neglected care. The situation is further compounded by the lack of essential amenities. Ugwu Na Agbo, a community of peasant farmers, does not have access to potable water. This lack of clean water contributes significantly to the spread of infectious diseases. Without basic necessities, the health and well-being of the community remain at risk. Despite these challenges, the spirit of the Ugwu Na Agbo community shone through. The voluntary blood donation drive included in our outreach saw both members of Sancta Bermuda Deck and local residents contributing to the National Blood Service Commission. This willingness to support broader health initiatives demonstrates the community’s resilience and commitment to improving their health conditions. The outreach also included training on Basic Life Support and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), providing residents with essential lifesaving skills. Additionally, health talks focused on lifestyle modifications and disease prevention offered crucial education to a community that has limited access to health information. The observations from our outreach highlight an urgent need for government action. The establishment of local medical facilities in Ugwu Na Agbo is not just a necessity; it is a matter of survival for the community. Providing immediate and essential care would drastically reduce the need for residents to travel long distances for healthcare, significantly improving health outcomes. Access to potable water is a basic human right. Investing in infrastructure to ensure that communities like Ugwu Na Agbo have access to clean water would reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases and improve overall health. Given the high prevalence of eye diseases, there is a critical need for sustained eye care programs. Regular eye screenings, provision of eyeglasses, and treatments should be integrated into community health services. This continuous support will help prevent the deterioration of vision and improve the quality of life for many residents. Continuous health education programs are vital for promoting healthy living and disease prevention. These programs can be conducted through local health workers, community meetings, and media channels, ensuring that residents receive the necessary information to maintain their health. Recognizing the economic challenges faced by the community, the government should provide support to peasant farmers. Healthcare subsidies, nutritional programs, and economic empowerment initiatives will help residents better manage their health and improve their overall quality of life. Robust measures to control and prevent infectious diseases are essential. This includes vaccination drives, distribution of mosquito nets, sanitation campaigns, and regular health screenings. Such initiatives will help curb the spread of infectious diseases and protect the community from future outbreaks. The Free Medical Outreach Program in Ugwu Na Agbo Community has highlighted significant health challenges that require immediate and sustained government intervention. By establishing medical facilities, ensuring access to clean water, and implementing continuous health programs, the government can significantly improve the health and well-being of this community. The resilience and willingness of the community to engage in health initiatives are evident, and this momentum should be supported and harnessed through comprehensive governmental action. The time for action is now. The health and future of Ugwu Na Agbo Community depend on it.

The member representing Nkanu East Constituency, Honourable Anthony Okechukwu Mbah, has commended Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his outstanding performance in the infrastructural development and economic emancipation of Enugu State. Addressing party stakeholders and leaders during the July 2024 meeting of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Nkanu East chapter held at Nkanu East Local Government Secretariat, Hon. Okey Mbah highlighted the various projects the government of Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has so far embarked on in Enugu State. He described the projects as massive and unprecedented and thus encouraged them to take their time to visit some of the project sites to see things for themselves. According to him, "Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has embarked on a lot of developmental projects aimed at making Enugu one of the best states in the country. "These projects are on education, health, and other basic infrastructures that are geared towards boosting the state's economy, creating jobs, and reducing poverty. "Some of the projects are ongoing while some are completed, for instance, the international conference centre and 5-star hotel, the Hotel Presidential, and others." "All these will boost the tourist capacity of our dear state and increase our revenue generation." "In addition to all these, our Governor also has completed and ongoing 87 roads and has approved the construction of an additional 80 roads to further solve the road infrastructure needs of the state." The lawmaker also admonished the party faithful to be steadfast in their support and continue to pray for the governor, adding that Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah does things at its set time and will soon start issuing appointments in the government ministries and agencies which, he said, would enlist more persons into various positions. He also pleaded with stakeholders to consider loyal party men and women for positions in the forthcoming ward and local government congress of the party that will replace the current executives whose tenure will soon expire. Hon. Mbah also used the opportunity to congratulate the governor for all the numerous awards he has won recently, both nationally and internationally. He said: "I want to use this to congratulate our performing governor for winning awards from reputable organisations. It shows that those who understand the value of the infrastructure developments the government is putting in place have given him due recognition for jobs well done." "We have a talk-and-do Governor in Enugu State whose show of benevolence will always reach those that worked well for his emergence." "He has assured that his intention is to have zero dust in Enugu, which would make it impossible to see dust or potholes across the state." "His works are visible, which has prompted many to nickname him: 'it dey play, it dey show Leader.'" "I thank you all for your magnificent support towards the party, the same with our Governor." "I want to assure you all that you will never regret supporting Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah." "Finally, I want to advise our ward and local government party leaders to be honest in the sharing of rewards that come to the party." "They should reward according to the efforts put into the party by members and not on sentiments." "This will create a positive environment for the party to progress as a reward for good work signals more work." "We must make sure that only faithful members are made our leaders in wards and local government areas during the forthcoming congress to curb avoidable tantrums that usually follow injustice." "PDP is a great party and the party that has answers to the needs and yearnings of ndị Enugu."

Women across all spheres of life, especially in Enugu State, have been enjoined to inculcate the biblical virtues required of mothers by living as role models and being a source of strength and hope to their husbands. The Spiritual Director of Jesus Never Fails Ministry, Mrs. Nkem Adu, made this request on Tuesday during the June edition of the Enugu Women Prayer Network held at Michael Okpara Square, Independence Layout Enugu. Speaking on the topic "Women That Carry the Light," taken from the book of John, Mrs. Adu stated that women play significant roles in the family, which later translate to society at large. She emphasized that women are special beings created by God to bring positive change to the world and should therefore abstain from ungodly acts such as abortion, gossiping, prostitution, banditry, kidnapping, stealing, and other forms of social vices as they will not lead to any positive outcomes. Mrs. Adu stressed the importance of total abstinence from political prostitution, which is seen in some women who are eager to gain political power, as it contradicts the moral standards set by God for women to follow and prosper. She described men as often being tricky, using sweet words and unfulfilled promises to exploit desperate women for their own benefit. "I am here as a woman of God to tell you the truth as directed by the Holy Spirit," she said. "Every woman here should always remember that she is a special gift to humanity, loved by God. "We have unique roles to play to ensure a better society that gives God the glory He desires and deserves. Every woman should be a good wife to her husband, a home builder, and a hope giver. It is our duty to train our children well, teaching them to grow up as good ambassadors of our Lord Jesus Christ." "As God's special creatures, there are certain things we must never indulge in, such as adultery, gossiping, harlotry, banditry, kidnapping, and child trafficking, among other social vices. These acts are inhuman, create a gap between us and God, and won't lead us anywhere." "Women who wander around sleeping with men to gain political positions or favor should stop such acts, as God detests infidelity from His special people. Indulging in such acts to gain favor has always been rejected by God. It devalues women and others in the eyes of men. Men now are more intelligent than that. Any man that sleeps with you won't give you anything meaningful. They don't give good things to women who are not righteous; rather, they use them and dump them." Mrs. Adu also emphasized the consequences of engaging in social vices for personal or political gain, stating that such acts must be stopped immediately to avoid further damage to homes. "Let me tell you, my fellow home builders, when you see women indulging in child trafficking, gossiping, political harlotry, blackmailing, backbiting, power tussling, kidnapping, and so on, their homes are often in disarray. You would be greeted by cockroaches, cobwebs, and constant quarrels among their children because they don't have time for their families and homes." "We must focus more on building our homes than engaging in frivolous activities. We also need to reduce our reliance on social media and use the time spent there to monitor the development, growth, and well-being of our children." Mrs. Nkem Adu further advised women on the importance of praying for political leaders at all times, especially the executives, adding that doing so would promote good governance and reduce many of the issues troubling women. She also prayed for the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and his family, urging God to strengthen them and give them more wisdom to lead the state effectively. "Every woman should learn to pray for our political leaders, especially the executives," she said. "When we have good governance, everyone will be happy, and many of the issues troubling us will naturally diminish." "The leadership of the Enugu Women Prayer Network should continue their good work because God is using our Okpara Square prayers to fight some hidden battles for us." "I am happy with Dr. Favour Ugwuanyi, the leader of this prayer network, and her team. I want this prayer network to become a national anthem, especially in known Christian states. Let's strive to replicate it simultaneously across the nation and see what God can do for Nigeria as a nation." Mrs. Adu also prayed for the attendees and the land of Enugu State, conducted deliverances, and led a prophetic march around Okpara Square to invoke God's power for healing on the land. In her remarks, the coordinator of the Enugu Women Prayer Network, Dr. Mrs. Favour Ugwuanyi, thanked God for the gift of life and His blessings for the state. She stated that God has been using the monthly prayer exercise to perform wonders for the state and its members and attendees. She thanked the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Nkechinyere Ihuoma Mbah, for her unwavering and immeasurable support and urged women to act on the word of God from Mrs. Nkem Adu by making peace with God and taking possession of their homes. Some of the dignitaries present included the wife of the Governor of Enugu State, Mrs. Nkechinyere Ihuoma Mbah, represented by the wife of the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Mrs. Fina Ugwu; the Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs, Children, and Gender in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jane Eneh; wives of some past local government chairmen, Mrs. Rita Edeh, Mrs. Nkwuo, Mrs. Ngene, and Mrs. Ejim; 17 local government representatives; the Dorcas Women, a group of widows who regularly pray with the Enugu Women Prayer Network; 11 coordinating pastors of the group; some staff from the office of the wife of the Governor of Enugu State, including Dr. Mrs. Okenwa, Mrs. Ifeoma Amadi, Mrs. Ann, Mr. Favour, and Mrs. Ngozi Itanyi; wives of current state assembly members; the founder and chief executive officer of Ken David Orphanage Home; the PFN Women, CAN Women, and CWO Women; and some top military officers and police, among others.

"NPFL 2024: Meet Emeka Onaga, The Rangers Sports Psychologist and Data Analyst: An Unsung Hero" By Sebastine Chukwuebuka Okafor. (Bookastro) Enugu Rangers International, founded in 1970, recently secured its 8th Nigerian Premier League title with a decisive 2-0 victory over Bendel Insurance at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium. This victory not only marked another milestone in the club’s storied history but also highlighted the pivotal role played by the team’s unsung hero: Emeka Onaga. As a sports psychologist and data analyst, Onaga’s contributions have been integral to Rangers' resurgence. Despite being one of the best in his field, his contributions often go unnoticed. Before their latest triumph, Enugu Rangers had experienced a period of decline. Their home ground, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, was in a state of disrepair, forcing the team to play their home matches in Anambra State for two years. The arrival of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah marked a turning point. His administration undertook the renovation of the stadium, bringing the team back to its home ground, which provided a psychological boost that was further enhanced by the appointment of Barr. Amobi Ezeaku as team's general manager and Emeka Onaga as the team’s psychologist and data analyst. Onaga’s dual role as a sports psychologist and data analyst is a rare combination that provides a comprehensive approach to team management, addressing both mental and tactical aspects of the game. Onaga’s primary role as a sports psychologist involves identifying and addressing mental barriers that could hinder player performance. Modern footballers face numerous distractions, from social media to personal issues, which can significantly affect their concentration and performance. Onaga’s approach involves preemptive problem-solving by anticipating potential mental obstacles, ensuring that players are mentally prepared for matches. This includes dealing with anxiety, maintaining focus, and fostering a positive mindset. Recognizing that each player is unique, Onaga tailors his psychological interventions to suit individual needs, ensuring that each player can perform at their best. Through his methods, Onaga helps players develop resilience, enabling them to cope with the pressures of high-stakes matches and maintain consistency throughout the season. Beyond his psychological interventions, Onaga’s expertise in data analysis has been crucial in shaping Enugu Rangers' strategic approach. His work involves meticulous game review and evaluation to identify patterns and sequences that could influence the team’s chances of winning. This includes detecting opponents’ weaknesses and suggesting tactical adjustments. By providing the Technical Advisor with detailed analytical reports, Onaga aids in making informed tactical and technical decisions. His insights have been instrumental in key matches, such as those against Sporting Lagos, Plateau United, Enyimba, Sunshine Stars, and Abia Warriors. Onaga’s analysis goes beyond mere statistics; it includes assessing player performance metrics that help in understanding areas needing improvement and those that require reinforcement. Onaga’s influence can be observed in several notable matches. For instance, in the match against Sporting Lagos, Onaga’s pre-match psychological preparation and data-driven strategy helped Rangers secure a vital win. His ability to pinpoint Sporting Lagos’ defensive vulnerabilities enabled the team to exploit these weaknesses effectively. Similarly, in the match against Plateau United, Onaga’s focus on enhancing players’ mental resilience and concentration paid off, resulting in a disciplined and strategic performance that saw Rangers emerge victorious. In the high-pressure encounter against Enyimba, the psychological readiness of the Rangers’ players, orchestrated by Onaga, was evident. His analysis of Enyimba’s play style provided critical insights that informed the team’s strategy. Sports psychology, though often underreported, plays a crucial role in modern football. It addresses the mental aspects of player performance, which are as important as physical and technical skills. A well-prepared mind can make the difference between winning and losing, especially in high-pressure situations. Onaga’s work exemplifies this, as he has successfully helped Rangers’ players manage their fears, maintain focus, and build a winning mentality. Given the success of Enugu Rangers under the guidance of Emeka Onaga, it is imperative that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) takes note of his methods and contributions. The NFF should integrate sports psychologists into the coaching staff of all national teams. This will ensure that players receive the necessary mental conditioning to complement their physical and technical training. Emphasizing the importance of data analysis in football strategy can provide a competitive edge. Onaga’s approach to using data to inform tactical decisions should be adopted across all levels of Nigerian football. The contributions of sports psychologists and data analysts like Onaga should be recognized and supported. This includes providing necessary resources and creating platforms for these professionals to share their knowledge and methods. Investing in the training and development of more sports psychologists and data analysts will benefit Nigerian football in the long run. This can be achieved through workshops, certifications, and partnerships with educational institutions. Emeka Onaga’s role in Enugu Rangers’ recent success cannot be overstated. His dual expertise in sports psychology and data analysis has provided the team with a comprehensive approach to both mental and tactical preparation. The Nigerian Football Federation stands to gain significantly by recognizing and integrating such expertise into the broader football ecosystem. By doing so, Nigerian football can achieve greater consistency, performance, and success on both national and international stages. Onaga’s story is a demonstration to the power of addressing the often-overlooked aspects of football, proving that mental strength and analytical insight are as crucial as physical prowess in achieving victory.

The National Association of Seadogs, also known as the Pyrates Confraternity, Enugu State chapter, has partnered with the Enugu State Fire and Rescue Service to enhance fire safety, security, and prevention mechanisms throughout the state. The Enugu State chapter president of the National Association of Seadogs, Joe Mazeli, made this known to newsmen on Monday through a press statement that he personally signed and distributed. He stated that part of the reason behind this partnership is to jettison the attitude of shifting blame during fire incidents in the state and equip the denizens with the basic knowledge of firefighting skills to prevent and combat its occurrences. Mazeli emphasized the importance of adhering to safety protocols and regulations to safeguard lives and properties. He highlighted that the seminar conducted by the Enugu State Fire Service was an eye-opener for the members of the Pyrates Confraternity, revealing that small precautions often overlooked can significantly enhance public safety. He lamented the general negligence of safety manuals and instructions, which he described as a height of carelessness. Mr. Mazeli also explained how the Pyrates Confraternity, Enugu Chapter, further extended their fire safety awareness campaign to the Timber Market in Abakpa, Enugu State, where traders were educated on maintaining constant vigilance and exercising caution to prevent fire outbreaks. He stressed that securing the society against fire incidents is a collective responsibility, urging citizens to remain vigilant as prevention is far cheaper and more effective than remediation. Additionally, Mazeli commended the Enugu State Government for its support of the Fire Service but called for further investment in Rapid Response Fire Vehicles, separate water stations, and the revitalization of old fire water storage pipes in the city. The statement reads " " Enugu State Fire Service and Pyrates Confraternity: A Partnership for the Safety of Lives and Properties" In line with the ideals of partnering with like-minded individuals and organizations, the National Association of Seadogs aka Pyrates Confraternity, Enugu Chapter, has gone into an endearing partnership with the Enugu State Fire Service in order to domesticate the intricacies of fire safety, security, and prevention mechanisms within their domiciled community. As a people, it has been established that we're very good at shifting blame and responsibilities. While we acknowledge the fact that the Government has a role to play in policy direction, the citizens also need to complement the government's efforts. The seminar by the men of the Enugu State Fire Service to members of the Pyrates Confraternity was an eye-opener. It was an opportunity where little things we take for granted are actually a panacea to the safety and welfare of the people. Adhering to set rules and regulations remains the key to securing our lives. The typical Nigerian, as we often joke about, seldom reads manuals of items or gadgets. That's the height of carelessness. The takeaway for public consumption: 1. There is a fire triangle that must be present before an object can be set ablaze. They are: Combustible or flammable material + oxygen + heat. Once any of these is lacking, a fire incident will not take place! Meaning that removing the combustible material or starving the fire of oxygen or cooling the heat, fire will not take place! Causes of fire accidents are: 1. Carelessness which is mostly seen in unattended cooking pots and pans, cooking stoves, and gas cookers. 2. Wrongly/carelessly-placed flammable liquids, gases, paints, adhesives, gunpowder, chemicals, candles, matchboxes, lighters within the reach of children, among others. 3. Failing to replace damaged electrical conductors or change-over switches, overloaded sockets and extension cords, blown fuses. 4. Faulty wiring, malfunctioning of electrical devices, and loose electrical connections. 5. Careless use of or unattended heating devices like irons, space heaters, water heaters, hair straighteners/stretchers, hair dryers, etc. 6. Improper disposal of used or empty inflammable materials/containers (perfume, insecticide, gum, hair cream) or accumulation of rubbish in the garage or basement or anywhere in the house. 7. Improperly extinguished discarded cigarettes, indiscriminate bush burning especially in the dry season. 8. Use of mobile phones close to a generator or a filling station, pouring fuel into the fuel tank of a generator in use, and pouring kerosene into a burning/hot lantern or stove. 9. Use of burning candles close to flammable (gas, fuel, etc). 10. Storing fuel inside containers especially in vehicles and careless manual filling of car fuel tanks. 11. Use of wrongly/improperly-labelled chemicals. 12. Wrong/poor use of protective garments/insulators (rubber, slippers or shoes, goggles, etc.) while using or repairing electrical appliances. 13. Wielding gas tanks and cylinders, over speeding on the roads. 14. Willfully setting a flammable/combustible material or a place ablaze in order to cause damage or to cover up an offense(s). This synergy led the team to a fire awareness campaign at the popular Timber Market, Abakpa, Enugu State. The traders were well briefed on the need for being extra careful and effectively maintaining constant vigilance. It is expected that securing our society against fire incidents depends on how careful each member of society is. Nothing should be taken to chance, because it is cheaper to prevent and costly to treat or amend. On the other hand, the Enugu State Government deserves our praise for its support towards the Enugu State Fire Service. However, efforts should be expended in purchasing more of the Rapid Response Fire Vehicles, provision of separate water stations, and re-inventing the old fire water storage pipes in the streets of the city. The National Association of Seadogs aka Pyrates Confraternity, Enugu Chapter, has volunteered to serve as Fire Marshalls in bridging the information gap between the people and the agency, and also in reducing the time for response and sensitization. Our society can only be better if we all contribute our quota towards its development and safety. Joe Mazeli Chapter President NAS/PC Enugu Chapter

....... says Jerry Partick Onuokaibe remains their choice for Igweship. Enugu State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Prince Lawrence Ezeh, has been urged to visit a psychiatric hospital to ascertain the state of his mental health over his recent acts of harassing people from his village, Mburubu, in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State. In a post that circulated through social media on Saturday, the poster, namely, Ekene Mmaduabuchi from Uhuegbe village in Mburubu community, said Prince Lawrence Ezeh has sponsored more than 30 media attacks against the person of Jerry Partick Onuokaibe, a man he said has always seen Prince Ezeh as a brother and friend. He stated that the recent attack which Prince Lawrence Ozoemena Ezeh sponsored against Jerry Partick Onuokaibe through the use of a non-existing name, Ogbonna Enyinnaya, is another act which puts the mental state of the commissioner into serious consideration. In a rejoinder to the misleading statements made by Mr. Lawrence Ezeh's aide against the good people of Mburubu, Ekene Mmaduabuchi refuted the claims, asserting that the crisis in the Mburubu community predates the emergence of Ozo Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe. Mmaduabuchi highlighted efforts made since 2013 to curb the alleged tyrannical behavior of Mr. Lawrence Ezeh, including letters to various authorities and lawsuits, thus accusing Prince Ezeh and his associates of abusing power, intimidation, and financial coercion against Ndi Mburubu. The Statement also criticized Ezeh's attempt to mislead the public regarding a letter from concerned citizens of Mburubu against the alleged abuse of power and emphasized the mass delivery of the letter to the state secretariat on May 22, 2024. Regarding the procedure for the emergence of the Igwe of Mburubu, Mmaduabuchi referenced the community constitution of 1976 and accused Ezeh of attempting to create disunity by disregarding zoning regulations. He praised High Chief Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe for accepting the call of leadership from their people as well as the manner in which he has handled series of media, spiritual, and physical attacks from Prince Ezeh. He challenged Prince Lawrence Ezeh to prove his assertion that Onuokaibe practices divide and rule while also questioning his motives in allegedly opposing the collective will of Ndi Mburubu. The statement reads ; **A Rejoinder to the Misleading Statements of Mr. Lawrence Ezeh's Aide Against the Good People of Mburubu** Ordinarily, the writer and his boss, the self-styled Regent of Mburubu, would have been ignored, but the need to stop them from misleading the unsuspecting public has made this rejoinder necessary. I must state clearly that the crisis in the Mburubu community predated the emergence of Ozo Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe, as there have been efforts to tame the tyrannical behavior of Mr. Lawrence Ezeh in Mburubu since 2013. Efforts to curb his abuse of power, negligence, and intimidation against Ndi Mburubu were first initiated by the Mburubu Town Union under the leadership of Mr. Celestine Chukwu (late), Mburubu Association USA Inc., and others. You may refer to the letters from the MTU to the Honourable Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Rural Development, Enugu State, dated 16th December 2013 and 28th August 2014, respectively. There were also lawsuits at Agbani High Court, specifically cases numbers HAGB/16/2013 and HAGB/27/2013, and the order of interim injunction issued at Nsukka under the seal of the Honourable Court and hand of the presiding judge, Honourable Justice F.I.N. Ngwu, dated 20th August 2013. There's also the letter from the MTU to the Divisional Police Officer, Nkanu East LGA, Amagunze, dated 28th August 2013. See also the letter from the MTU president to the MTU branches dated 10th April 2014. There was also a letter from the Mburubu Association USA Inc. to the late Igwe E.M.O. Ezeh and the MTU, respectively, dated 28th September 2013, etc. The purpose of the above-mentioned letters is to expose the lies of Mr. Lawrence Ezeh and his army of oppressors who have consistently abused power, shown high-handedness, used intimidation, financial power, and mischievousness against the collective opinions and interests of Ndi Mburubu, who have been resisting them since 2013 to date. The attempt by Lawrence Ezeh's aide to mislead the public about the letter from the concerned citizens of Mburubu, duly signed by over 630 verifiable Mburubians against Commissioner Lawrence Ozoemena Ezeh and the MTU under his stooge, the MTU president, who also doubles as Commissioner Ezeh's personal driver, regarding the indiscriminate abuse of power is laughable. The people did not only write and sign the letter but trooped en masse to personally deliver the letter to the Honourable Commissioner for Chieftaincy Matters, Local Government and Rural Development at the state secretariat on the 22nd day of May, 2024, which has failed on arrival. Rather than bowing their heads in shame, they resorted to attacking the person of High Chief Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe, a true man of the people. The writer's assertion that Mr. Lawrence Ezeh's tyrannical behavior is in defense of the Mburubu people makes me suggest that he needs to visit a psychiatrist for urgent medical attention. In fact, calling such a high-powered delegation of Ndi Mburubu lead by Prof Alphonsus Njoku, a professor of Political history, scavengers and unprintable names makes one wonder what Ezeh and his aides smokes in their gatherings. The incoherent, inconsistent, imbecilic, and unintelligent statement by his aide further validates what Niccolò Machiavelli said: "The very first and best method of evaluating and estimating the intelligence and capacity of a leader is to look at the kind of men he has around him." It is an arrogant display of stupidity and ignorance to call a delegation that comprises the Mburubu leaders of thought, family and village heads, women and youth leaders, Cabinet Chiefs, and Ndi Ozo Mburubu, scavengers. The procedure for the emergence of the Igwe of Mburubu is contained in the Mburubu community constitution of 1976, which is recognized and gazetted by the Enugu State government in 2010. However, owing to ignorance, Mr. Lawrence Ezeh and his bunch of oppressors are delighted in their attempt to create problems and disunity in Mburubu by zoning the Igweship to Uhuegbe village, even when the Ministry of Chieftaincy Matters has made it clear that the constitution of the Mburubu community did not zone it to any village. Recall that weeks after the demise of our late Igwe, who was the biological father of Commissioner Ezeh, rather than mourning the late King, Mr. Lawrence Ezeh and his personal driver cum MTU president, Mr. Emmanuel Edeh, embarked on the infamous attempt to desecrate the Anyi Mburubu. All attempts by the people to make him abort the disgusting idea proved abortive. The people, in an attempt to stop him from desecrating the Anyi Mburubu, sent a high-profile delegation to High Chief Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe, asking him to come to their aid, a call Ozo Onuokaibe responded to and ensured that Mr. Ezeh and his cohorts did not carry out the sacrilegious and dastardly act against Ndi Mburubu. This was the genesis of Ezeh's many attacks on Chief Onuokaibe. However, this shall be a topic for another discussion. Finally, I make bold to say that the assertion that Chief J.P. Onuokaibe is practicing divide and rule is not only laughable but a lie from the pit of hell. This will also form a topic for another essay, but it is pertinent to state clearly that the engineer, iron bender, carpenter, and many others who constructed Chief Onuokaibe's palatial home in Mburubu are all from the Odenigbo extractions of Mburubu. The question begging for an answer is: Why does Commissioner Lawrence Ezeh want to be the lone voice and sole representative of Mburubu Njoku-Igbudueze? Udo dikwalụ onye chọrọ udo. Mazi Ekene Maduabuchi ✍️ from Mburubu. |
...... Stages Massive Protest Against Town Union, Prince Lawrence Ezeh Over Alleged Abuse of Powers The people of Mburubu in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State have called on Governor Peter Mbah to come to their rescue over what they described as "disruptive and anti-people actions" by Prince Lawrence Ozoemena Ezeh, the serving Commissioner for Science and Technology in Enugu State. The Mburubu community made this call on Wednesday through a communique signed by 638 of its members drawn from the seven villages that make up the community: Amanato, Obinagu, Uhuagu, Uhuegbe, Umudara, Umunafo, and Amachi. The communique was sent to the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development, and Chieftaincy Matters, Deacon Okey Ogbodo, at the State Secretariat in Enugu. The community members, who gathered en masse with various types of placards, accused the serving commissioner of using his cronies, Hon. Emmanuel Edeh and Mr. John Nwosu, to institute a case against the state government over their traditional rulership issues. Presenting the communique, Prof. Alphonsus Njoku said they came to express their disappointment over how one of their sons, Prince Lawrence Ozoemena Ezeh, has been dealing with them. He stated that they desire a new traditional ruler, using their 1976 constitution, which was used to elect their late Igwe, Chief Ogbuzuru Ezeh. In his remarks, Mr. Nick Nwafor, a seasoned journalist from the community who represented the stakeholders in the diaspora, said the community wants their town union to be dissolved, stating that they didn't send their Town Union President, Mr. Emmanuel Edeh Ogbu, to take the state government to court. He described their president as a stooge of Prince Lawrence Ezeh, who was his personal driver until his emergence. Speaking on behalf of the Uhuegbe Village, Ozo Kenneth Igbudu, an elder brother to Mr. Linus Igbudu, whom they allege Prince Lawrence Ezeh wants to impose on them, said their village has been under a series of harassments from thugs allegedly sponsored by Prince Ezeh. He stated that the Igweship of the community is open for all to contest and urged that the state government warn one of its officials. Addressing the community, the Hon. Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development, and Chieftaincy Affairs, Deacon Okey Ogbodo, thanked them for their peaceful manner in expressing their anger without violence. He stated that the process of electing a new traditional ruler had already started before it was momentarily stopped to allow for proper mourning of their late Igwe, Chief Ogbuzuru Ezeh. He posited that the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah is committed to addressing all issues affecting development across communities. He described town union leadership and traditional rulers as the bedrock of rural development and administration. Deacon Ogbodo asserted that the discussion on the election of a new Igwe for the Mburubu community would commence immediately in a clear and clean manner as stated by their constitution after due consultation with the town union. According to him: "I wish to applaud you for your peaceful coordination and behavior." "We have heard all your complaints and will work towards resolving all the issues raised." "Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah's government honors the rule of law and order, and thus, we must work in line with the law." "Your constitution is already gazetted by the ministry and is open for everybody to access." Deacon Okey Ogbodo also confirmed that the community, through its town union, instituted a suit against his ministry, the state government, and the Attorney General of Enugu State. He also stated that efforts are in place to resolve the issues to avoid troubles that would hinder growth in the community. "On the issue of the court case, there is a suit against us from your town union. We will invite the town union, as they are the ones who drive the process of electing a new traditional ruler, to know those who sued the government, their numbers, reasons, and how to resolve it." "Even though it is wrong for the town union, which has been working with us, to take us to court without proper consultation, we are one, and as partners in progress, we need to sit at a round table to settle every issue." "Be rest assured that while we are trying to resolve this, we cannot allow any community to be held to ransom by any individual, group, or organization." "I urge you to continue to comport yourself in a peaceful manner and avoid chaos, which could cause infiltration of bad elements that could lead to more problems for your community and the state." "Just be rest assured that we have heard your cries and will work towards resolving everything." It was also gathered that part of the requests made by the community includes the dissolution of its town union to set up an interim caretaker committee in its stead. They also reiterated their commitment to supporting Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah's administration with all they have to make Enugu better.

The member representing Enugu North and South Federal Constituency in the federal house of representatives, Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu, has sponsored a total of 51 indigent but intelligent students from selected schools in his constituency for the 2024 National Common Entrance Examination for admission into government unity schools in Nigeria. The chairman of the Chimaobi Sam Atu Education Board, Dr. Chidiebere Ezinwa, disclosed this to newsmen in Enugu on Monday through a press statement he personally signed and sent to newsmen. He stated that the students were selected from both urban and rural schools in the constituency as part of the first phase of unity school registration embarked on by the lawmaker. He noted that the lawmaker has expressed displeasure with the lack of interest in unity schools among students in his constituency, thus making the current gesture part of his resolve to create awareness on the need for his constituents to start getting admitted into unity schools. It should be recalled that the lawmaker offered scholarships to over one hundred brilliant secondary school students in his constituency who could not pay their WAEC/NECO fees earlier in the year. According to Dr. Ezinwa, "Plans are also in top gear to offer different scholarships to over one thousand two hundred secondary school pupils and prizes to schools in the constituency through a highly streamlined selection process later in the year." It could also be recalled that Hon. Atu earlier in the year inaugurated a seven-man education board led by Dr. Chidiebere Ezinwa, the Head of Department, Mass Communication in Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), charged with the responsibility of awarding SSCE and tertiary institution scholarships, bursaries, and other interventions in public primary and secondary schools in Enugu North and South Federal Constituency. The committee fast-tracked the WAEC registration of over 100 students across public secondary schools in the constituency, with a goal of making it 1500, including the best brains from private secondary schools in Enugu North and South Federal Constituency during the forthcoming WAEC registration for Senior Secondary School students. The Immediate Past Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial zone at the 9th Senate, Senator Chukwuka Utazi, has called on the South East region to rally around and align with the Government at the center for better economic growth. Senator Utazi made this clarion call during the Freedom Square Radio show, a live program on Solid FM 100.9FM, Enugu, anchored by Dr. Uchenna Cyril Anioke on Saturday. He stated having played national politics for 8 years as a parliamentarian, joining forces with the party at the center for the growth of the South East region becomes necessary as the region is far behind other zones in political development. According to him, "I am in politics not for answering names or titles but see it as a contract; we prioritize the interest of the masses." "I played national politics for 8 years and after moving around and seeing things done, I discovered that we the Igbo are not doing it right." "We have numerous political parties in the South East which have limited our growth and will continue to wallow until we align." "It is time for the South East to align with National politics and start getting what actually belongs to us." "South East has been voting for PDP, to no avail, voted for Labour to no avail, it is time to support APC." "I am a wise man, I come from the East, and I have decided to move on." "As a wise man, it is not good to exclude ourselves from national politics." Senator Utazi affirmed, stressing his commitment to serving the people's needs above all else. "My journey to APC was because PDP's bus moved, and I had to join APC." "There is an urgent need for the South East to realign with national politics for collective progress." Senator Utazi emphasized the need for a paradigm shift in South East's political landscape as that will guarantee economic growth as the state Government alone cannot solve our problems. "We have numerous political parties in the South East, which have limited our growth." "We must have alignment with working platforms such as the APC." "This is because, in Nigeria, we don't have political parties but only platforms where we use to drive our political interests." "We don't play ideological politics, which is why as Igbos we must always follow and join the party at the center to protect our interest because, if not, one unfavorable policy by the Federal Government will destroy all we have achieved for years in one minute." Addressing the issue of infrastructure development, Senator Utazi commended the progress witnessed in APC-led states, citing the example of improved road networks facilitated by the Minister of Works and Infrastructure, Engr Dave Nweze Umahi; thus, stressing more on the importance of joining the National Party to leverage federal resources for the benefit of the region. Expressing his vision for the South East, Senator Utazi outlined plans for Igbo representation at the National level, emphasizing the need to support the APC for strategic positioning. "Our plan is for an Igbo man to become president when power comes down to the south again," he declared, underscoring the importance of backing the ruling party to achieve this goal. The former lawmaker also talked on some of the challenges facing South Eastern Governors' Forum, attributing its inefficiency to lack of unity and trust among leaders; also, calling for concerted efforts to bridge divides and foster collaboration for effective governance. "South East Governors Forum seems not to be working because the South East is not one. There is no trust." "When a decision is taken because they don't attend the same meeting at the center, they will be afraid to embark on implementation and there is nobody that will mandate them to do as required. It breeds diverse opinions and fear." "If we have 5 South East Governors from APC, there is no way we will not achieve a mark. It is better for the Igbo to become a servant in heaven than King in hell. It is time to move to the center." Reflecting on his political journey, Senator Utazi expressed gratitude for the support received from his constituents and outlined his future plans to support emerging leaders. "In the next 10 years, I will be in the background supporting others who have the capacity," he stated, acknowledging the role of divine providence and the support of Sullivan Chime in his political elevation." Senator Utazi reiterated the importance of supporting our political leaders to enhance the growth of our dear states. "We must learn the habit of supporting our political leaders such as the Governor." "I urge the South Easterners to rally around their Governors till the next election year." "Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah is my Governor and as my Governor for the next 3 years, I will give him support."
