Powell Homes Unveils ‘Wonderland Estate’ in Enugu, Promises Affordable Smart Living

Powell Homes and Shelters Ltd has officially flagged off the construction of its new “Wonderland Estate” in Emene, with promises of affordable, mortgage-friendly housing and a modern eco-friendly environment designed to redefine luxury living in Enugu State.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony held on Saturday, the Managing Director of the company, Architect Chibuikem Onyekachi Emmanuel, said the project was designed to bridge the housing gap while providing residents with comfort, accessibility, and world-class recreational facilities.

According to him, the estate stands out because of its strong environmental focus, revealing that 25 percent of the entire land space has been dedicated to green areas and recreational development.

“Powell is known for having very affordable real estate products. This is not the first of its kind that we are doing. Every estate we’ve done in the past is usually within a reasonable price range so that it is reachable,” he said.

“What makes this estate stand out is the fact that we are giving out 25 percent of our entire land acquisition here to green areas. We are dedicating it to greenery. There will be enough plants and trees around to make the place habitable and comfortable for occupants.”

The developer disclosed that the estate would feature what he described as the first “Wonderland Leisure Park” in the area, complete with a five-star hotel, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and several recreational facilities aimed at attracting families and visitors.

“We are expecting the first of its kind — a Wonderland Leisure Park — which would have a lot of recreational facilities. It will have a five-star hotel, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and lots of amazing features that will bring families from outside this environment to relax and have fun,” he added.

Emmanuel further revealed that the project is strategically located close to key landmarks, including the airport and Godfrey Okoye University.

“This estate is just about a 15-minute drive from the airport flyover. From here to Godfrey Okoye University is about 10 minutes, while the airport is roughly 12 minutes away,” he stated.

He also noted that with the addition of Wonderland Estate, the company now has 14 estates across Enugu State.

Former Minister of Power, Professor Chinedu Nebo, who attended the event, commended the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention in addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit.

“It is critical that the housing gap be bridged. In those days, one of the most important goals of civil servants and workers was to own a house. But because of the economic downturn, it now appears like a dream that may never come true,” Nebo said.

“With the kind of mortgage-friendly estates Powell develops, and with this Wonderland Smart City, it is going to be easier for people to acquire homes. This is a dream come true in a sense.”

Also speaking, Nollywood actress and Powell Homes brand ambassador, Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as “Mama G,” urged residents and investors to take advantage of the opportunity, assuring them of the credibility of the project.

“You have nothing to fear. The investment is real. With Powell, there is nothing to fear,” she said.

“We should thank God that we have a young man like this who is not just looking at money but at the prosperity of his people and how to make them comfortable. You have every reason to come here and invest. It is cheap.”

Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Bishop Chibiko Onyeledo, also praised the project, noting that it would help address the country’s estimated housing deficit.

“Powell is taking a big stride in helping to bridge the housing gap in this nation. What is attractive here is the paperwork. This place has a Certificate of Occupancy. It is a registered estate without encumbrances,” he said.

“I also like the green aspect of this project. To live within greenery is fantastic, and I encourage it.”

The event attracted stakeholders from the real estate, religious, entertainment, and business sectors, with many describing the project as a significant boost to urban development and housing accessibility in Enugu State.

...As Wife of Igbo-Eze South Chairman Calls for Greater Investment in Teen Development

The wife of the Chairman of Igboeze South Local Government Area, Barr. Mrs Empress Ugo-Ferdinand Zikora, has called for more efforts in training young persons with information that will uplift their self-esteem and belief in their capacities.

Barr. Mrs Ugo-Ferdinand made this known on Saturday in Enugu during the 2026 Teens Impact Summit, organised by Ugo-Ferdinand Foundation in collaboration with Brook Laurels Academy and other partners, with the theme “Built for Impact,” which is a call to raise a generation of purpose-driven teenagers rooted in faith and excellence.

She stated that the summit was created to provide a platform where teenagers can discover their potential, build confidence, gain clarity about their future and understand the power they carry within them.

She posited that the difference between teenagers who succeed and those who struggle is often exposure, guidance and right mindset, which is why the culture of self-belief and capacity identification should be inculcated in what they do.

According to her, this summit was created to provide a platform where teenagers can discover their potential, build confidence, gain clarity about their future and understand the power they carry within them. Every great leader, every great innovator and every great nation builder was once a young person with a dream. The difference between those who succeed and those who struggle is often exposure, guidance and the right mindset. Here today, you will hear from speakers who will challenge you to think differently, inspire you to dream bigger, and equip you with practical wisdom for life.

Barr. Mrs Ugo-Ferdinand also appreciated the support given to her by her husband, Hon. Barr. "Sen. Ezea’s Replacement: Young Persons Suspected to Be Favoured Mapped for Media Attacks, Blackmails"

By Asogwa Damian
(Damasogwa212@gmail.com)

As the wait for INEC to release the schedule for the conduct of the by-election to replace the senator who represented Enugu North Senatorial District continues, a group of greedy and power-drunk politicians from the zone have started their selfish games against some persons perceived as young and vibrant blood from the area. They believe that Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah may go for a younger person full of energy and vision who can represent the district well, consolidate on his good works, and introduce a new approach compared to what was previously obtainable.

These greedy politicians, many of whom secretly worked against the Governor during the 2023 election and failed woefully in their polling units, even as they were given contracts and appointments, have set up a media team that will attack young people from the zone, especially those from Nsukka/Igboeze South federal constituency.

As part of their plan, their first target became the council chairman of Igboeze South, whom they see as a prolific disciple of the Governor's administration, who relates with the people irrespective of class across the senatorial zone. The aim is to make him appear overambitious in the eyes of the Governor and other decision-makers so as to remove him from any consideration table or idea. Another strategy is to sponsor write-ups in both traditional and social media portraying him as supporting those who criticise the Governor in order to damage his image.

It was reported that these men, including a former Gubernatorial aspirant, former commissioners, former DGs of parastatals, retiring public servants, a former state party chairman, a former candidate for the position, and a few businessmen, are working together and holding meetings both offline and online to this effect.

Some of them held their first meeting a few days after the burial of late Senator Okey Ezea, where names of young people from the zone who might likely be favoured by the Governor were listed for attacks and blackmail. The cabals perceive them as the likely favoured candidates by the powers that be and thus want to malign their integrity so as to put them off the race.

These cabals also have their individual plots of alternative means to maneuver themselves into the position and have held meetings with a former minister from Nkanu West Local Government Area, who is currently seen as a political enemy of the Governor. The plan is to work against the Governor if he does not protect their interest.

It was also reported that other names being mentioned for this negative media framing include the member representing Nsukka/Igboeze South federal constituency, Hon Chidi Obetta; the current chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, Hon Jude Asogwa; current Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon Sunday Ajogwu; former chairman of Igboeze South Local Government, Hon Peter Andy Omeje; former chairman of Nsukka Local Government, Hon Tony Ugwu; Board Member of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Amb Favour Asogwa; Special Adviser to the Governor on Experiential Learning, Dr. Mrs Chinyere Onyisi; former member, Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Erochukwu Ugwueze, amongst others.

According to some sources, the attacks and blackmails on the council chairman of Igboeze South Local Government Area didn't work as planned, and some of the cabal members see him as being innocuous of any intention to run. The next target is Hon Chidi Obetta, who they see as their worst enemy owing to his closeness to the Governor and some powers that be at the National Assembly and APC national secretariat.

Sources within the political circle in the zone also revealed that the group has begun reaching out to some bloggers and media handlers known for aggressive online campaigns. Their assignment is to gradually introduce damaging narratives against the identified individuals while presenting their preferred aspirant in a favourable light. The strategy is to flood the media space with negative reports so that such impressions may influence public opinion and create doubts about the competence and loyalty of the young leaders, which they have started with the current chairman of Igboeze South Local Government Area.

Some observers believe that the unfolding development may deepen political divisions within the zone if urgent steps are not taken to manage the situation. Many party faithful are already expressing concern that the activities of the group may weaken unity in the zone and distort their collective effort to support the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

There are also fears that the continuous spread of unverified allegations and sponsored attacks may create unnecessary tension among political stakeholders in the zone. Political watchers therefore urge restraint and advise that the process of selecting a suitable replacement should be guided by fairness, competence, and the overall interest of the people of Enugu North Senatorial District.

He posited that the act of sponsoring free WAEC and JAMB registration, as well as payment of school fees and award of bursaries by the First Lady, mitigates the constraints faced by indigent students, as it expands access to quality education, strengthens human capital development, and empowers young people in the pursuit of their academic aspirations.

“Education remains the most reliable bridge between poverty and opportunity, and Mrs. Nkechinyere Iheoma Mbah has shown uncommon compassion in building that bridge for our children. Through deliberate investments in examinations, school fees, and bursaries, she has lifted thousands of families from despair and restored hope to many young people. Ukwueze described it as a landmark intervention that shows the collective resolve of his administration to place education at the very heart of sustainable development, as it has always been in Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s education roadmap for the state.

He praised the contributions and support from the Chief Executive Officer of JRB Solar Investment Ltd., Alhaji Rauf Badamasi, in the initiative, noting that their payment of WAEC registration fees for all eligible students in the council has been both visible and quietly impactful over time.

“The pursuit of inclusive education remains central to this administration because knowledge is the foundation of progress. Our focus is to ensure that children in rural communities are given the same opportunities as their urban counterparts. Through smart schools, experiential learning, and sustained support, the Governor remains committed to expanding access, improving quality, and preparing our youths for a competitive future.”

Culture"Mburubu Again: The Truth Behind The Crisis, Key Players, And The Way Forward" by Kizito49(op): 12:36pm On Nov 30, 2025
By, Obinna Chukwu.

Mburubu Community in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State has been in a traditional leadership imbroglio since 2023, an issue that has kept the community in a negative light in media reportage. While the conflict seemed to be coming to an end between March and September 2025, another round of feud arose in October 2025, with many falsehoods being spread about the history of the community leadership tussle as well as abuses against community members by some interested parties, particularly those affiliated with the current state government. Recently, an empirical fact-finding investigation was conducted to uncover the root causes of this issue with the aim of finding a long-lasting solution, as the atmosphere in Mburubu once again indicated the need for accurate information and collective memory.

The investigation was carried out by Community Peace International, a South East-based Non-Governmental Organization that promotes peace and rural development. The NGO countered the lies propagated by some community leaders interested in the traditional leadership stool in Mburubu and challenged false claims against one of the contenders. Through their work, the complicated journey of Mburubu became clearer to observers who had been confused by conflicting narratives. The intervention opened a window into the forces that have shaped the contest for authority in the community.

On March 6, 2025, Chief Simon Anobi published a piece entitled "Facts Behind Mburubu Igwership Tussle" across various media platforms. Investigation has revealed that his claims were motivated by selfish interests and spread lies about his community. His publication generated tensions and elicited responses from residents who considered the narrative a misrepresentation of events that have long defined the path to leadership selection in the area.

During that period, a community leader, Mr. Edwin Ezeh, wrote a piece to counter the falsehoods and published it in media houses. The publication refuted all the lies and called for all parties to withdraw their court cases and test their popularity directly among the people. He emphasized that history must precede politics and that every contender must embrace the truth that guided the founders of the community structure in the past. His position reopened old memories of how leadership emerged in Mburubu, which prompted the investigation from the NGO.

Mburubu Leadership Origin

Mburubu Community Igweship began in 1976 when the community chose their late Igwe, HRH E. M. O. Ezeh. Before his coronation, the community gathered and called him to lead them because of his love for and contributions to their growth. Prior to his emergence, Mburubu had chiefs who represented them, such as Chief Chukwu Anyiene from Obinagu, another from Uhuagu, and others. The late E. M. O. Ezeh hailed from Umudara. The people saw his leadership as a continuation of their collective progress and embraced him with trust.

In line with military government directives, Mburubu Community agreed to have an Igwe, and he was crowned in April 1976. Around July 1976, the government led by Col. Arthur Mkpere gave him a certificate of recognition and a staff of office. During his coronation at Umudara village square, the late Igwe asked Ndi Mburubu if he could be succeeded by his son whenever his reign came to an end. The community said no, stating that his Igweship was a result of his good deeds to them. Thus, his successor would come from any other village except Umudara and must be someone accepted by the majority of Ndi Mburubu. That was the origin of the rotation system, which means the Igwe would come from a village that was not that of the late Igwe and must be elected by the majority. This agreement was signed by the late Igwe and other stakeholders in the community as a constitution for Igweship selection, also known as the 1976 Mburubu Autonomous Community Constitution, which is gazetted with the Enugu State Government.

At that time, despite the late Igwe being the majority choice, the late Anthony Nweke Chukwu from Uhuagu village and another man from Umudara contested against him. However, the late Igwe E. M. O. Ezeh was not selected based on the seniority of his village, Umudara, but on his popularity and good deeds to the community. In 1976, Uhuegbe village was recognized as the eldest village in Mburubu and received every accolade associated with that status. However, in 1977, a man from Umudara village, the late Ogbede Nwaonyeabor, took an oath and swore that Uhuegbe village was not the eldest in Mburubu but rather Umudara. Umudara village had settled in Mburubu before Uhuegbe, as Mburubu people were made up of different settlers from different areas. His action triggered debates that lingered for years and shaped the identity of the community.

In Igbo tradition, when someone takes an oath or swears before a deity, they are given one year to die or stay alive. If they survive, the other party is expected to purify them through ị́gwa ehụ, a traditional purification. However, Uhuegbe village refused to perform the purification after that period in 1978. Umudara village later carried it out and claimed the position of the eldest village in 1978. It is worthy of note that Uhuegbe village still contests the seniority issue to this day. The seniority conversation, therefore, remains a matter of perspective rather than a concluded fact.

Hitherto, no other village has taken any action to establish who comes next in seniority after Umudara, which means there is no known or verifiable order of seniority documented. These developments made it clear that the community's late Igwe was not elected based on village seniority. His emergence was grounded in community trust and service to the people.

The 2003 Mburubu Town Union Constitution

It was discovered that before 2003, many people had led Mburubu unions since 1970 after the war under the name Mburubu Progressive Union (MPU), which independently ran the affairs of the union. Leaders included Chief Nweke Onovo, Chief Sylvanus Njoku, and the late Chief Emmanuel Ezechukwu, with their own union constitutions. Their work defined the early democratic life of the community.

In 1993, a team of intellectuals from the community, led by Engr. Dr. D. C. Chukwu, came together to advocate for the establishment of a proper constitution to guide the union, which they successfully implemented. That constitution contained nothing linking the town union regulatory system with traditional leadership.

The community had other Town Union Presidents, including Chief Boniface Ogbede, the late Patrick Ifediora, and Mr. Livinus Edeh, who led effectively under the 1993 constitution. Their work maintained stability in community administration and established important precedents.

Conflict arose with the emergence of Chief Simon Anobi as a factional Town Union President and Chief Boniface Ogbede as another factional President in July 2003. Chief Simon Anobi was inaugurated with his faction in August 2003 and set up a committee led by the late Mr. Aniebonam Igbudu to write a new constitution, claiming there was no other constitution for the town union. Their action opened a new chapter of conflict in the political history of Mburubu.

During this process, no member of the Igwe cabinet was involved, no Igwe representative participated, and no discussion on the traditional institution occurred during the drafting of the constitution, as the traditional stool operates under established rules. The late Aniebonam Igbudu managed to smuggle several items into that factional constitution without community leaders' knowledge, likely due to personal interests. In the 2003 Mburubu Town Union Constitution, Mr. Simon Anobi single-handedly extended his tenure from three years to five years.

The illegal constitution positioned the community's Igwe as the Board of Trustees Chairman and patron of the town union, requiring his signatory. However, some village chairmen and other town unions across Mburubu refused to sign it. It was later rejected by the entire community. The propagators later used colleagues to sign secretly.

On January 4, 2004, the community convened at Obodo Uhuegbe Village Square to resolve the town union issue. They agreed that all actions by either factional Town Union President were null and void. Stakeholders preached for peace and ordered a confirmatory election where all male members aged 18 and above would vote to select the Town Union President between Chief Simon Anobi and Chief Boniface Ogbede. Chief Simon Anobi won and continued with his executives. This established that the 2003 town union constitution, drafted and signed between August and December 2003, was nullified by the community, and the confirmation election was conducted by the people, not delegates.

Town Union Elections

Some leadership interested parties became very powerful and consistently disregarded the majority opinion. Their economic influence allowed them to impose their will, especially regarding manipulations in the 2003 town union constitution and the zoning of executive positions.

Findings also noted that one of the late Igwe’s sons and Chief Simon Anobi influenced leadership selection in the community, including imposing the late Mr. Celestine Chukwu from Uhuagu Village despite local rejection. Due to lack of opposition, they initially succeeded. However, conflicts arose between the cabal and Celestine Chukwu over amendments to the 2003 town union constitution, already due for revision. Chukwu set up a constitutional amendment committee comprising men of wisdom from villages and branches, while the late Igwe nominated a representative.

The 2013 amendment was completed, removing the Igwe’s son’s power to control the election screening committee, as stated in the 2003 constitution. He then went to court to challenge the amendment. The case remained dormant due to limited resources.

After the expiration of Chukwu’s tenure, the late Igwe’s son zoned the presidency to Uhuegbe Village in favor of Ọzọ Kenneth Igbudu. Chief Simon Anobi opposed Igbudu’s candidacy, claiming he was a cousin to Celestine Chukwu, with past conflicts, and supported Chief Cornelius Okolie instead. Despite this, the people of Uhuegbe unanimously selected Mr. Calistus Chukwu, rekindling agitation as the cabal imposed their choice.

Afterward, Prince Ezeh, the late Igwe’s son, zoned the town union presidency to Obinagu Village to favor his personal driver, Hon. Emmanuel Edeh. Obinagu villagers rejected this and elected Ọzọ Sylvanus Chukwudi, popularly known as Morgodor, who won overwhelmingly. Prince Ezeh imposed Hon. Edeh on the community, disregarding principles of equity, fairness, and natural justice. His leadership symbolized the conflict between popular will and imposed authority.

Emergence of Engr. Dr. Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe

After the late Igwe’s death in December 2021 and burial in April 2022, the community mourned for over a year and decided to select a successor. A meeting was held at Obodo Uhuegbe Village Square with all people, the late Igwe cabinet, and the General Assembly. The community sought someone who would serve like the late Igwe, prioritize the community’s interest, bring development, be young and vibrant, and hold an Ọzọ title.

After deliberation and following the 1976 coronation agreement, Ọzọ Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe was chosen by the overwhelming majority. A delegation informed him of the decision. After consultations, he accepted. His name was submitted to the local government, then to the Ministry of Local Government Rural Development and Chieftaincy Matters between December 28, 2023, and January 6, 2024.

On February 2, 2024, the community held a grand reception for him, funded by community donations. Prince Ezeh and Simon Anobi attempted to disrupt the event using thugs, but the community intervened. Prince Ezeh even attempted to arrest Hon. Njoku Ifeanyi a day before the reception, which was prevented by community leaders and Ọzọ Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe. Vulnerable villagers attending the event were harassed, but intervention from Onuokaibe and security agencies ensured their safety.

Prince Ezeh’s Attempt to Impose an Igwe

While his father’s remains were still in the morgue, Prince Ezeh and Mr. Simon Anobi attempted to exploit outcasts to give Chief Simon Anobi access to the Igwe stool. This move was resisted by the community, who had capable defenders to match their oppressors.

Critical but Unanswered Questions

The community continues to ask Prince Ezeh and his cohorts: Where was the 2003 Town Union constitution when Chief Simon Anobi was taken to the governor after the late Igwe’s death for recognition? Where was the constitution when Hon. Emmanuel Edeh campaigned to be Igwe? Why reference this constitution when imposing town union presidents?

Igweship Selection Election

Prince Ezeh, Chief Simon Anobi, and their cohorts attempted to conduct an Igweship election using the controversial 2003 Town Union constitution, not approved or gazetted by the Enugu State Government, rather than the 1976 Mburubu Autonomous Community Constitution. The draft recognized six villages instead of seven and allowed only 18 delegates to vote, disregarding the community’s population of over 30,000. A court injunction prevented what could have been a disastrous election.

The Way Forward

Courts do not give communities traditional rulers; the people do. Mburubians must unite, withdraw all court cases, reject violence and intimidation, and allow the precedent of 1976 to guide the process. All parties should test their popularity among male and female indigenes aged 18 and above, as done in January 2004 during the confirmation election of the Town Union President.

PoliticsImo Blackout: Group Accuses Orashi Electricity Ltd Of Sabotage by Kizito49(op): 11:12pm On Nov 21, 2025
"Imo Blackout: Group Accuses Orashi Electricity Ltd of Sabotage, Destruction of TCN Assets, Faults ‘Rushed’ Licence and Demands Federal Probe"

South Easterners under the aegis of the South East Political Watchdog have raised alarm over the painful activities of Orashi Electricity Company Ltd over its continued frustration of the operations of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) as well as Transpower Electricity Distribution Ltd, which has led to series of blackouts across Imo State.

The group also questioned the licence given to Orashi Electricity Company Ltd by the Imo State Government through the Imo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ISERC), saying that such should be thoroughly investigated after available documents showed that the company was issued a licence less than 50 days after its registration.

In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the group, Chief Dr. Charles Ogbu and sent to newsmen in Enugu on Friday, the organisation fingered the involvement of some top officials of the Imo State Government in the activities that birthed both the company and its licence issuance.

The group further alleged that Orashi Electricity Company Ltd had repeatedly destroyed TCN and Transpower equipment.

“The constant damage to federal and distribution infrastructure has directly contributed to the prolonged blackout that has crippled homes, businesses, and essential services across Imo State.”

“There are strong indications that the operations of Orashi Electricity Company Ltd are now posing a direct threat to federal assets, especially after the alleged invasion of the TCN transmission station in Egbu, which pushed Imo State into total darkness.”

The statement explained that the use of armed personnel to compel power shutdown raises wider security concerns.

“No private company has the authority to deploy force, intimidate workers, or disrupt public electricity supply in a manner that affects the wellbeing of an entire state.”

It further questioned the ownership structure of the company, stating that “The profiles of the individuals listed as major shareholders do not align with the financial capacity required to own a large electricity business, and this gap continues to fuel suspicion among residents.”

The group also challenged the regulatory process that produced the operating licence given to Orashi Electricity company Ltd , insisting that, there exists a notable lack of due diligence by the regulatory authorities.

“The speed at which ISERC approved the company’s operations suggests that due diligence was either compromised or completely ignored, which makes a full investigation unavoidable.”

The South East Political Watchdog urged federal agencies, civil society groups, and other regulatory bodies to take urgent steps to protect electricity consumers in Imo State and ensure that no private outfit operates above the law.

The statement reads,
PRESS RELEASE

The South East Political Watchdog expresses deep concern over the troubling activities of Orashi Electricity Company Ltd, a privately owned enterprise whose actions now pose a direct threat to Federal Government investment in the power sector.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is fully owned by the Federal Government and is the only body legally empowered to release power to distribution companies.

It is therefore disturbing that Orashi Electricity Company Ltd has continued to frustrate the operations of both TCN and Transpower Electricity Distribution Limited, a subsidiary of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) that distributes electricity across Imo State.

On Saturday, 15 November 2025, at about 10:20am, Orashi Electricity Company Ltd allegedly mobilised more than forty armed policemen to invade the TCN transmission station at Egbu, which also supplies energy to Transpower.

During the invasion, the security operatives who arrived with persons linked to Orashi Electricity Company Ltd reportedly assaulted the operator on duty and forced him at gunpoint to shut down power supply, before allegedly abducting him.
This reckless act plunged the entire Imo State into total darkness.

These actions raise serious questions that the South East Political Watchdog is demanding answers to:
What exactly are the intentions of Orashi Electricity Company Ltd in shutting down electricity supply to an entire state?

Why subject thousands of Transpower customers to unnecessary suffering?

Could the Imo State Government have a hand in this, or is there something residents are not being told?

It is also on record that agents linked to Orashi Electricity Company Ltd have repeatedly destroyed properties belonging to Transpower Electricity Distribution Ltd, a company in which the Federal Government owns 40% stake. These actions undermine federal investments and threaten the stability of electricity distribution across Imo State.

In all of these alleged unlawful activities, the silence of the Imo State Government remains troubling.

How can a private company repeatedly destroy the assets of an organisation partly owned by the Federal Government, yet the State Government says nothing?

Available records show that Orashi Electricity Company Ltd is owned as follows:

1. Imo State Government – 5%

2. Maureen Okorogu – 9.5%

3. Ndukwe Frances – 59.85%

4. Catherine Anumodu – 25.65%

These names raise additional concerns for the public and regulators:

For instance, Maureen Okorogu is the DG of Imo State Small and Medium Enterprises, WTO/STDF 845 National Project Coordinator, and a director in Adani Mega Systems Ltd and Marine Operations Ltd.

Secondly, Frances Oluchi Ndukwe, a British national based in England, is linked to several companies including Harmony Hills Support Limited (UK), Vankol Homes and Support Services, and Integrated Signalling and Telecommunication Co. Ltd.

While, Catherine Anumodu, born in 1982, has been a director in Westminster Cargo Handling (UK) and Integrated Signalling and Telecommunication Co. Ltd, and resides in Abuja.

The South East Political Watchdog asks: How do individuals with these profiles suddenly become owners of a massive electricity company with investment levels far beyond their known income or business history?

Many members of the public are already saying that Orashi Electricity Company Ltd may be a front for more powerful actors, and the lack of transparency only deepens suspicion.

Another big question is: Who is truly behind Frances Oluchi Ndukwe, who has been publicly fronting for Orashi Electricity Company Ltd and is known to be a close associate of the Imo State Government?

Could it be that key people in the Government of Imo State are the real owners of Orashi Electricity Company Ltd?

These are questions that the Imo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ISERC) must answer.
It appears that proper investigation was not carried out before issuing a licence to Orashi Electricity Company Ltd.

Everyone knows that KYC (Know Your Customer) is required before any company can receive an operating licence.
So, who authorised the licence for Orashi Electricity Company Ltd, and why?

Who are the individuals behind Adana Mega Systems Limited and Integrated Signalling and Telecommunication Co. Limited that constitute 95% ownership of Orashi Electricity Company Ltd, leaving Imo State government with only 5%?

It is also a known fact that the same company was denied licence approval by NERC for certain obvious reasons which ISERC was aware of.
Why then did ISERC issue a licence without the necessary due diligence?

Moreover, a critical look at Orashi Electricity Company Ltd shows that it was registered on 28 May 2024, yet it was granted a license to operate on 13 July 2024, a period of only 46 days. This is quite surprising and even shocking, especially because such a rapid approval seems to be against the provisions of the Act. What could be the reason behind such a hasty decision if not political interests?

Does this not indicate a lack of due diligence by the regulatory authorities, which suggests that proper verification and compliance checks were rushed or overlooked?

It is clear that the urgency reflects hidden agendas, economic motivations, and an attempt to bypass standard procedures that are meant to protect public interest.

Such an unusually fast approval has raised serious questions about transparency, accountability, and adherence to legal requirements.

The South East Political Watchdog calls on the Federal Government, security agencies, and all regulatory bodies to immediately investigate this matter and protect federal assets in Imo State; as no private company should operate above the law or hold an entire state to ransom.

We also call on all civil society organisations that defend the rights of electricity consumers to take necessary action to ensure such incidents never occur again.

Signed
Chief Dr. Charles Ogbu
National Publicity Secretary,
South East Political Watchdog.

...as ENGIS and Enugu North LGA win different awards in recognition of digital innovations.

Enugu State has once again demonstrated its leadership in digital innovation and public sector transformation under Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, as the state has earned two prestigious awards during the ongoing GovTech Awards organized by the Presidency and held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

At the event, Enugu Geographical Information System (ENGIS), under the leadership of Chiwetalu Nwatu, received the Award of Excellence in Geographic Information Service. The award, which recognizes ENGIS’s notable strides in digital mapping, land administration, and geospatial intelligence, was admired by all.

Recall Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State had in March 2024 signed the Enugu State Geographic Information System Service Bill into law before the system was officially commissioned on 16 December 2024.

ENGIS, since its inception under the leadership of Chiwetalu Nwatu as its Managing Director, has enhanced access to land title documents from its usual perpetual delay to 48 hours, promoted efficiency in land transactions by reducing land grabbing, which has been a mayhem to the state, and digitized land records, which has almost curbed land disputes.

Putting all these together, ENGIS has been recognized as one of the most critical agencies under the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah owing to its efficiency in service delivery.

Addressing the press, the Managing Director of ENGIS, Mr. Chinwetalu Nwatu, said he is happy with the commendation and acceptance received by the agency from people across the globe, especially the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, an office being handled by the Presidency, which he said is known for its focus on effective public service delivery.

According to him, the success of ENGIS exemplifies the strong leadership style of Governor Mbah, who has shown clear direction in the use of technology to transform governance; adding that his reforms have given agencies the support needed to work smarter and serve the people better, while his vision has brought a new era of efficiency and digital growth in the state.

It has been reported that many residents, pundits, and analysts have praised the governor for creating an environment where digital platforms can thrive.

Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has, through his policies, made land administration faster, transparent, and more reliable, which has also attracted investors and boosted public confidence.

Governor Mbah, who has made Enugu the leading state in transparency in land administration, has also shown that good governance powered by technology can bring real change. This is owing to his approach, which has inspired various state agencies to embrace innovation and improve service delivery for the benefit of the people.

In another major development, Enugu North Local Government Chairman, Dr. Ibenaku Onoh, was also named the Digital Local Government Chairman of the Year. This honor by the Presidency is to celebrate the LGA’s groundbreaking initiatives that include the recently deployed Shop Allocation Management System, the automated revenue collection portal, the digital website for the LGA, amongst others, that center on digital innovations in governance.

The GovTech Awards, which seek to honor excellence, innovation, and the transformative use of technology within Nigeria’s public sector, is one whose awardees undergo a series of scrutinies before being nominated.

Speaking with newsmen, Dr. Ibenaku Harford Onoh described the award as a call for more.

He stated that Enugu North Local Government, under his leadership, took its programmes and policies from the Tomorrow is Here agenda of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who he said is an innovative leader.

He explained that the governor’s forward-thinking policies have inspired local governments to embrace technology in their operations; adding that Enugu North Local Government will continue to build on these efforts to serve the people better.

The grassroots-renowned leader also assured that more technology-driven projects will be introduced in the coming months to make governance closer to the people and to improve the quality of service delivery in the local government area.

"Powell Homes MD Hails Dr. Udeh’s Rise to Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Pledges Support for Governor Mbah's Administration"

The Attorney General of Enugu State and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, has been applauded for his outstanding performances and contributions to the justice sector, which also helped in his elevation to the country’s Inner Bar.

Recall that in July 2025, 57 legal luminaries were nominated for elevation into Nigeria’s Inner Bar and were sworn in on Monday in Abuja by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

The Managing Director of Powell Homes and Shelters Ltd, Architect Chibuikem Onyekachi Emmanuel, made this known on Wednesday through his congratulatory message sent to newsmen in Enugu, in celebration of Dr. Udeh’s elevation to Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

He stated that the honour reflects Dr. Udeh’s dedication to legal excellence, his passion for Enugu State, and the reforms he has led since assuming office as Attorney General in 2023.

He also stated that the new SAN has worked to open up the justice system through community mediation centers, digital handling of court records, and the passage of modern laws that drive development in the state.

He posited that Dr. Udeh has overseen the preparation of over 18 bills, with 15 already passed into law, covering areas such as electricity regulation, land administration, environmental safety, and property rights, while also introducing the Witness Trust Fund to protect fair trials and strengthen the credibility of the criminal justice process in Enugu State.

According to Architect Onyekachi, beyond Dr. Udeh's official duties, he is celebrated as a scholar and mentor whose academic journey from the University of Nottingham to Stellenbosch University has shaped his contributions in public law and governance; adding that his recognition as SAN places him among Nigeria’s most respected legal minds and reinforces the growing influence of Enugu in the country’s justice system.

Architect Chibuikem also praised Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for the opportunity presented to Dr. Udeh to further showcase his capabilities, while also praying for continual blessings for his growth.

He reiterated the commitment of Powell Homes and Shelters Ltd in supporting the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, describing him as a world-class leader.

The statement reads,

CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE

I congratulate my big brother and strong confidant, Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh SAN, Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Enugu State, on his elevation to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

This honour shows his love for God, his passion for Enugu State, and his pursuit of excellence in the legal profession. It is also an acknowledgement of the great work he has done in reforming the justice sector and making it more open to the people.

Since his appointment in 2023, Dr. Udeh has led important reforms, as he guided the passage of many new laws, revived mediation centers across the state, and introduced new measures to speed up justice delivery. He also promoted the digital handling of court processes to make justice more efficient and fair.

Under his watch, the Enugu State Ministry of Justice has prepared over 18 bills, with 15 already passed into law. These cover areas like electricity regulation, land administration, environmental safety, and property rights. He also announced the creation of a Witness Trust Fund to support fair trials and protect the integrity of the justice process, an idea that will make Enugu a reference point in excellent judicial procedures.

Dr. Udeh is a public law scholar with an LL.D. from Stellenbosch University, who has taught law in Nigeria and abroad, advised global organizations as a procurement consultant, and served in different public roles before his appointment as Attorney General. His knowledge of law and governance has shaped policies that improve both justice and development in Enugu State.

He is respected not only as a lawyer but also as a teacher, mentor, and reformer. By his example, many young people now see the law as a tool for service and progress. His rise to the rank of SAN is a clear sign of his influence in the legal community and public service, as well as a reward for his sterling efforts in the legal profession.

From us at Powell Homes and Shelters Ltd, we strongly believe that his elevation to the Inner Bar shows that hard work, integrity, and knowledge are always valued, as it brings pride not only to him and his family but also to Enugu State and Nigeria.

I am proud of this achievement and confident that he will continue to shine in service to our state and country.

More so, I want to use this opportunity to thank Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for the opportunity presented to my friend to work in his administration, which provided a platform for him to showcase his hidden talents to the world. May God bless him more. I want to assure him of my unalloyed support for his administration, while I also call on ndị Enugu to use all they have to support his administration.

Congratulations, my brother and friend.

Politics"Mburubu Community Hails Enugu Govt, Warns Commissioner’s Aide Against Falsehood by Kizito49(op): 8:47pm On Sep 30, 2025
The Mburubu General Assembly has reaffirmed its loyalty to Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and the Enugu State Government, while strongly rejecting any attempt to impose leaders or entrench cabal politics in the community.

This position came in response to a recent publication by Dr. Chidi Peters Okorie, media aide to the Commissioner for Science and Technology, which the community described as misleading and economical with the truth.

According to the Assembly, the Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy Matters had only called for a pre-election meeting with stakeholders of the community, an established step in the leadership selection process. The meeting, they explained, was aimed at examining the community’s constitution where applicable, setting modalities for the electoral process, establishing procedures for the formation of an electoral panel, and fixing a date for the election.

The group dismissed allegations that the Commissioner sought to form a caretaker committee as false and unfounded. They questioned who fixed the “canceled election” Dr. Peters referenced, who constituted the electoral panel, and whether there had been any meeting with the Ministry and the community prior to the October 2, 2025 pre-election meeting.

The statement also faulted Dr. Peters for accusing the Government of collecting ₦20 million to impose a caretaker committee in Mburubu. The Assembly described the allegation as reckless and called for investigation, noting that Dr. Peters and his principal, Prince Lawrence Ozoemena Ezeh, had made similar accusations in the past.

It recalled that in 2023, the duo accused the Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government, Dr. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, of receiving ₦20 million in relation to the Mburubu Igweship tussle but later apologized when the claims proved unfounded. “Recycling the same baseless allegation clearly shows a lack of sincerity,” the Assembly noted.

The group further cautioned political aides against planting confusion in the community and warned that unfounded accusations not only tarnish the image of Mburubu but also weaken trust between government institutions and the people. It maintained that if the Ministry ever considered appointing a caretaker committee, it would be within its constitutional powers to prevent a leadership vacuum.

While stressing that leadership matters in Mburubu should be handled with transparency, consultation, and respect for due process, the Assembly urged residents to remain vigilant. It emphasized that only genuine participation and dialogue could secure lasting peace and progress.

“What Mburubu needs now is unity, honesty, and the courage to move forward together, not recycled lies and baseless allegations,” the Assembly stated.

The statement reads, ;
Mburubu Wants Free and Fair Election, Not Imposition of Leaders

(Countering the lies told against Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah's government on the Mburubu election by the media aide to the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Chidi Peters Okorie)

Dear Dr. Chidi Peters Okorie, Mburubu Community Loves our Governor Dr. Peter Mbah and we will continue to support Enugu State Government and desires an election.

What the majority of our people are against is the imposition of candidates and the entrenchment of cabal leadership.

It is unfortunate that you are economical with the truth in your recent publication.

For the record, before any election takes place, there must be a pre-election meeting between the State Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy Matters and the stakeholders of the concerned community. This was exactly what the Honourable Commissioner had called for.

Alleging that the Commissioner called to form a caretaker committee is false. What he called for was a pre-election meeting where the constitution of the community, if any, would be examined, modalities set, and constitutional procedures for electing an electoral panel as well as fixing the date for the election would be made.

One question that you, Dr. Peters, who alleged that Deacon Okey Ogbodo cancelled an election, has failed to answer is this: Who fixed the said canceled election? Who formed the electoral panel? Was there any meeting between the Ministry and the community leaders to that effect apart from the one convened by the Ministry on October 2nd, 2025 and described as the pre-election meeting?

Is it not strange that someone who serves as a Personal Assistant to a sitting Commissioner is attempting to pre-empt the outcome of a meeting days before it takes place? For him to accuse the Government of collecting ₦20 million to impose a caretaker committee in the community is a matter that should be investigated. Perhaps it is his principal in the State Government who has engaged in such conduct, and he is merely projecting it on others.

One would also wonder why Dr. Peters and his boss, Prince Lawrence Ozoemena Ezeh, repeatedly bring up the figure of ₦20 million whenever Mburubu leadership issues are mentioned. Recall that in 2023, they accused the Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government, Dr. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, of collecting the same amount regarding the Mburubu Igweship matter. They later apologized.
Now, the same baseless claim is being repeated. This clearly shows a lack of sincerity.

It is troubling that individuals in such positions of responsibility would recklessly make accusations against a government they are supposed to serve. This is not only disrespectful but also creates unnecessary tension in the community and state at large. If the Ministry were to consider appointing a caretaker committee in Mburubu, it would still be within its constitutional powers to do so, especially where there are obstacles to electing new leadership. All we know is that we won't pray for any vacuum in the leadership of our community.

Our people must be vigilant and not allow political aides to plant confusion in the community. Leadership matters in Mburubu should be handled with transparency, consultation, and respect for due process. The Ministry has opened the door for dialogue, and it is only through genuine participation that lasting peace and progress can be achieved.

Finally, those spreading falsehoods must realize that their actions do not just tarnish the image of Mburubu but also weaken the trust between government institutions and our people. What the community needs now is unity, honesty, and the courage to move forward together, not recycled lies and baseless allegations.

Signed,
Mburubu General Assembly.

He also made promises that the leadership of market will continue to do its best in averting fire outbreak in the market, as dry season approaches.

More than 200 people turned up for the program, because they had a lot to benefit. During the program;
1. Emergency numbers to call during fire outbreaks were distributed, for ease of communication.

2. Safety tips and actions to be done in an emergency, while waiting for the arrival of Fire Service Personnel.

3. A practical demonstration of how to use the fire extinguisher.

4. Knowledge of the date and time of when to service the fire extinguisher was also taught.

5. Constant communication between the market leaders, Enugu State Fire Service and National Association of Seadogs on ways to ensure sustained efforts towards fire prevention was agreed.

All stakeholders are therefore invited to join the efforts towards fire disaster prevention and help in promoting egalitarian society.

PoliticsHow Governor Mbah's Appointment Of Engr. Onyinye Okoro In The Solid Minerals by Kizito49(op): 7:42am On Aug 19, 2025
"How Governor Mbah's Appointment of Engr. Onyinye Okoro in the Solid Minerals Sector Is Powering Enugu’s Mining Comeback"

Enugu is blessed with a lot of natural resources that are both tapped and untapped in different ways. Enugu's mining activities rose to prominence in 1909 after the then British Government discovered coal before it started mining in 1915.

This made the state become the hub for migrant workers across the globe after the construction of the Port Harcourt railway lines.

Aside from coal, the state is blessed with other natural resources such as: limestone, iron ore, gypsum, clay, shale, sandstone, amongst others.

However, since the coal mining stopped, successive governments have done little or nothing to revitalize the mining sector of the state and turn it into a pure renowned revenue-generating source until Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah came with a roadmap to making Enugu a safe haven for the mining sector with the appointment of Engr. Samuel Onyinye Okoro as his Special Adviser on Solid Mineral Mining.

The appointment of this intelligent and professional son of Nkanu land, who is also the Chairman of MERIMCO, underscores Governor Peter Mba's commitment to harnessing the expertise of young, seasoned professionals in his administration. This strategic move is poised to revolutionize the mining sector in Enugu State, leveraging Okoro's over 20 years of hands-on experience in the industry.

Enugu's coal deposits, renowned for their exceptional quality, are set to contribute significantly to Nigeria's energy mix. The administration's proactive approach transforms the mining landscape, activates dormant assets, and stimulates economic growth. The formalization of mining activities is expected to hike royalty payments to the federal government, ensuring a steady revenue stream.

The administration's efforts to regulate the sector are anticipated to curb illegal mining activities, reduce conflicts between communities, and promote a more stable environment. The growth of the mining sector is expected to generate employment opportunities for Enugu indigenes, contributing to the state's economic development. Establishing registered mining companies owned by Enugu indigenes will further solidify the state's position in the mining industry.

Moreover, the administration is adopting best practices in tune with world mining standards, similar to those in Australia, where safety, environmental sustainability, and community engagement are prioritized. This approach will enhance the sector's productivity and ensure that Enugu State's mining industry operates responsibly and sustainably.

Governor Peter Mba's administration is firmly committed to developing Enugu State's mining sector, driven by the expertise and vision of professionals like Engineer Samuel Onyinye Okoro. This strategic approach is poised to yield significant economic benefits, cementing Enugu's position as a leader in Nigeria's mining industry.

"When Cheap Power Becomes Costly: How Enugu’s Energy Reform Plunged Residents into Darkness"

By Dr. Sebastine Chukwuebuka Okafor, Ph.D

On the 18th of July, 2025, the Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC) issued an Order to MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited, announcing the reduction of electricity tariff of all the consumers in Band A from ₦209/kWh to ₦160/kWh effective from August 1st, 2025.

Announcing the tariff reduction, which attracted praises across the nation, especially from Enugu State residents, the EERC Chairman, Chijioke Okonkwo, said that the reduction in tariff became imperative following the Commission’s review of MainPower’s tariff and license applications as the new subsidiary company (SubCo) that operates in Enugu State.

According to him, “We reviewed their entire costs, using our Tariff Methodology Regulations 2024, and the supporting Distribution Tariff Model to get an average price of ₦94.

“The price is low because the Federal Government has been subsidising electricity generation costs, which charges only ₦45 out of the actual cost of ₦112. That was how we came about the average tariff of ₦94 as cost-reflective tariff at our level as a subnational electricity market.”

Recall that electricity regulation in the country has been overseen by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), but with the approval of the 2023 Electricity Act by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, state governments are empowered to generate, transmit and distribute their own electricity. They also have the power to establish their own electricity regulatory commissions that would regulate electricity market within the states. It is such laws that birthed MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited, which is a subsidiary of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), responsible for power distribution in the state.

Enugu State became the first state to start the implementation of this law, with Governor Peter Ndubisi Mbah assuring the residents that they would experience improvement in their electricity availability as his administration is focused on growing the state's GDP from $4.4n to $30b. While inaugurating the EERC board, the Governor assured that Enugu State, being the first state to adopt the 2023 Electricity Act, would continue to lead while others follow.

But what the residents, especially those under MSME that drive the economy, are currently experiencing is the worst form of blackout. The worst is even that there is no solution to the problem. This is because, for 17 days now, most parts of the state have been in darkness over the inability of MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited to serve its customers due to the reduction in tariff by EERC. Information gathered from sources close to the distribution company in Enugu indicates that their mother company, EEDC, is going to lose over ₦1bn monthly should they implement the tariff as instructed by EERC. This, however, prompted them to reduce the energy allocation to MainPower thereby cutting off supply to all the customers in Bands B, C, D, and E, which thus indicates that over 52.2% of the electricity consumers in the state have been in blackout for over 17 days without any hope of the issue being resolved soonest.

Saddened by this situation and claims by EERC that there is energy subsidy paid by the Federal Government for all the electricity users, I personally embarked on investigations to unearth whether EERC is actually telling the truth or lying to Enugu residents. Results indicate that there are 11 Discos in Nigeria, excluding Aba Power Limited (operated by Geometric Power). Out of these Discos, the Band A tariff charged by EEDC is ₦209.50/kWh (exclusive of 7.5%VAT); Jos Electricity Distribution Company charges ₦209.50/kWh (exclusive of 7.5% VAT); Benin Electricity Distribution Company: ₦209.50/kWh; Ikeja Electric: ₦209.50/kWh; Yola Electricity Distribution Company: ₦209.50/kWh; Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company: ₦209.50/kWh, while Aba Power Limited (operated by Geometric Power), charges its Band A customers ₦219/kWh. The N219/kWh tariff charged by Aba Power Limited is even because they did not include wheeling or TCN charges as the power comes directly from the state; but for the tariff for Enugu which includes TCN charges, EERC wants everything to be reduced to N160.40/kwh. Does that make sense?

It is noteworthy that NERC had on the 1st of July, 2024, pegged the tariff at ₦209.50/kWh from the previous ₦206.80/kWh.

From the above points, one would begin to wonder about the intentions of EERC to announce energy tariff reduction when it is not ready to take care of the shortfall. Reducing the tariff is a wonderful idea, but doing so without making provision for the deficits doesn't make any sense. It is very clear that the assertion by EERC on the Federal Government subsidising energy for consumers is incongruous and thus erroneous, as such does not exist.

A few days ago, the NERC leadership, as well as the Minister of Power, came out to criticize the declaration made by EERC, as it did not show any plans of covering the financial shortfall which would likely be encountered.

Moving ahead, can we also recall that in October 2024, EERC also issued license to Fedikore Limited to generate 10 megawatts of electricity for the State Government so as to boost the state's generating capacity. But how the company vanished still remains a mystery to many, although there are grapevine reports that the company backed out when the State Government refused to allow them to sell their energy at their proposed ₦250/kWh.

Furthermore, is it not surprising that Geometric Power which is a private company that generates and distributes its own energy, will be selling their energy at ₦219/kWh, whereas Enugu State, that has no contribution to the national grid, is championing for a tariff slash of N160/kWh in Enugu? This is not just a joke but appears more like a mockery of NDI Enugu's intelligence and emotions.

Fellow Nigerians, especially residents of Enugu, it is high time we begin to question the sincerity of both EERC and the Enugu State Government. Their actions in recent weeks have proven that they are more interested in political showmanship than in providing practical solutions to the suffering of electricity consumers. The fanfare around the tariff reduction was nothing but a deceptive public relations stunt designed to score cheap political points.

The EERC’s reckless decision has plunged over half of the state into darkness, crippling businesses and throwing households into unimaginable hardship. Instead of proactively engaging stakeholders to ensure a balanced and sustainable power distribution plan, they have resorted to passing the blame and making empty promises. This is not leadership; it is irresponsibility at its peak.

Furthermore, the silence of the Enugu State Government on the prolonged blackout is shameful. For a government that claimed to be focused on economic growth, allowing such a catastrophic disruption to persist without intervention reveals either gross incompetence or deliberate neglect. In either case, the people of Enugu deserve better than being used as pawns in a poorly thought-out energy policy experiment.

PoliticsOwo Town Under Siege By Nigerian Army by Kizito49(op): 2:56pm On Jul 27, 2025
*OWO TOWN UNDER SIEGE BY NIGERIAN ARMY*

_... Insist on annexing the entire community land through intimidation_

The peaceful agrarian town of Owo, comprising Owo and Mbulu Owo Autonomous Communities experience fear and apprehension from Monday July 21 through Saturday July 26, 2025 as men of Nigerian Army were parading the town with sophisticated weapons and professional surveyors, surveying the entire town.

Video evidence showed the military men in uniform started from Akpoga Nike, through Mbulu Owo, Owo and Ubahu communities - all the communities have common boundaries. Anonymous eye witnesses reported that the military men did not consult with any of the community leaders, nor did they inform the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Idodo Court Police Division on their purpose or mission in the town.

However, further information gathered by our correspondents showed that the town has been in dispute with the Nigeria Army. It is on record that in November 2016, The House of Representatives told the Ministry of Defence and Chief of Defence Staff to direct the Chief of Army Staff to restrict the General Officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army from occupying a portion of land situated at Owo town of Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.

This is as the Enugu State Government has said that the joint inspection it had with a team from 82 Division of the Nigerian Army to ascertain the claims of the acquisitions of the said land, revealed that “no beacons that correspond with the ones in the survey plans submitted by the Nigeria Army were found.”

The state government through Enugu State Ministry of Land and Urban Development, represented by Mr. Paul Nnaji, at the investigative hearing on the matter, further said: “That the position of the Ministry on the matter is that the Nigeria Army is not the legal owner of the land and cannot prove so as there are no official documents to support the claims of the respondent.”

The House’s directives were contained in the report it adopted sequel to a petition to it by Mbulu-Owo community through Chukwuemeka Ujam, who was then the member representing Nkanu East and West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

According to the petition, the intention of the Army to occupy the area will amount to unwarranted invasion, displacement and a threat to eject the people of the community.

However, the Nigerian Army, in its response, submitted that the land was acquired by the force in the 1960s and 1970s, with the Army’s representatives, Major General A. B. Abubakar, saying the land had been encroached on by unidentified persons who were setting up beacons on it.

However, the then Nkem-Abonta-led Public Petitions Committee, in its findings, said: “The joint inspection tour of Owo town of Nkanu East Local Government of Enugu State by officials of Enugu State Ministry of Lands and Urban Development; and Nigeria Army 82 Division Enugu, revealed that the land in dispute has no beacons, which corresponds with the ones on the Survey Plan the respondent presented to the Ministry.

“The Committee also notes that the position of Enugu State Ministry of Lands and Development on the matter is that it had no document or was aware of any acquisition transaction on the land in dispute between the parties.”

Our correspondents gathered that the Nigeria Army came back sometime early 2025, to start laying claim to the community lands. This prompted the leaders to approach the Enugu State High Court through their legal representative I. I. Ngene, esq where in Suit No: E/375/2025 under Hon Justice C. O. Ajah, PhD May 20, 2025 delivered an interlocking injunction restraining the Nigerian Army from entering, interfering, occupying, laying siege, or stopping or continuing with their entry, interference, siege or disturbance of the town until the determination of the substantive matter. Hence, the sighting of the Nigeria Army in the town not only amounts to disregard of Court order but an attempt to intimidate the people.

All attempts by our correspondents to get the reaction from Military authorities in Enugu State proved futile. As things stand, the people are living in fear and apprehension, as men, women, youths and children are afraid to go about their normal legitimate activities, for fear of being molested and attacked.

PoliticsWHICH WAY, INEC? Enugu's Credibility Crisis Demands Urgent Attention! by Kizito49(op): 6:44am On Jul 22, 2025
WHICH WAY, INEC? Enugu's Credibility Crisis Demands Urgent Attention!

It is a constitutional bedrock that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) stands as a neutral umpire, taking no side among electoral players. However, the situation unfolding in Enugu State starkly contradicts this fundamental belief. It increasingly appears that Enugu's electoral integrity is being dictated by who offers the deepest pockets.
How else can one explain INEC's unwavering insistence that Mr. Chukwu Emeka Chukwu (REC Enugu State) and Mr. Francis Chigbu (EO Enugu South) must conduct the re-run election for Enugu South Urban Constituency, scheduled for August 16, 2025? This insistence persists despite widespread protests from the electorates of Enugu South Urban Constituency and virtually all political parties and players, with the notable exception of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). The PDP, it must be stated, stands accused of disbursing enormous sums in foreign currency, allegedly to corrupt the very integrity, neutrality, and transparency of INEC.
It is crucial to recall that Mr. Chukwu Emeka Chukwu and Mr. Francis Chigbu were the two officers who presided over the infamous re-run election of February 3, 2024. During that widely publicized event, original result sheets, which had been duly sighted by all political party agents at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Enugu, mysteriously vanished on election day itself. This inexplicable disappearance led directly to the stalling and ultimate cancellation of that re-run election.
Alarmingly, up to this very day, neither the said REC Enugu nor the EO Enugu South has provided a satisfactory public explanation for what transpired with those missing original result sheets. We have also observed with grave concern that INEC has failed to hold these two individuals accountable; they have remained undisturbed in their positions since the incident.

Given these undeniable facts, it is not difficult for any fair-minded observer to comprehend why the electorates and all other political parties are vociferously protesting and firmly insisting that Mr. Chukwu Emeka Chukwu and Mr. Francis Chigbu must, under no circumstances, be allowed to conduct this forthcoming re-run election on August 16, 2025. Their integrity and neutrality are undeniably compromised. The overwhelming consensus among electorates and political stakeholders is that this duo is tainted and has compromised the process, and consequently, they should be barred from overseeing this crucial election.

We, therefore, issue an urgent call to INEC: heed the genuine fears and legitimate protests of the electorates of Enugu South Urban Constituency and, indeed, all players in this election. Do the needful to restore public trust. As the adage rightly asserts, justice not only needs to be done but must, unequivocally, be seen to be done by all and sundry.

The concerned citizens of Abbi in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State have called on Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah to call his Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy Matters, Deacon Okey Ogbodo, to order over his alleged plans to foist a President-General on the Abbi community.

The group made this call on Tuesday, through a press statement signed by its National President, Chief V.N. Ajogwu, and sent to newsmen in Enugu.

He stated that the Town Union election, which took place on May 3, 2025, at Central School Abbi, was marred by serious irregularities and was declared inconclusive by many observers, including the monitors from the ministry.

He posited that it was surprising and troubling to hear that the Commissioner is allegedly making moves to issue a certificate of return to one of the candidates, Mr. Mathias Ajogwu, despite the controversy surrounding the exercise.

He also accused the Commissioner of being biased and compromised during the election and warned that any attempt to impose a leader on the people of Abbi without following due process would be strongly resisted.

Chief Ajogwu also stressed that the community would not fold its hands and watch its rights being taken for granted.

He went further to allege that Deacon Ogbodo has a history of interfering in community elections across Uzo-Uwani since he became the Commissioner, including in Adani and Nrobo, where he was accused of collecting money from candidates.

He warned that such acts must not be repeated in Abbi and urged the Governor to protect his name and administration from the scandal brewing under his appointee.

The statement reads,
PRESS STATEMENT BY CONCERNED CITIZENS OF ABBI COMMUNITY ON THE CONTROVERSIAL TOWN UNION ELECTION OF MAY 3, 2025

We, the concerned citizens of Abbi community in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area, write to express our deep concern and growing anger over the suspicious developments surrounding the outcome of the recently conducted Town Union election held on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, at Central School Abbi.

The election, which was contested by Mr. Mike Dieke of Isiyi village and Chief Mathias Ajogwu of Umushere village, was supervised by the Enugu State Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy Matters, led by the Honourable Commissioner, Deacon Okey Ogbodo. From the conduct of that election, it became clear that there were serious irregularities, and the credibility of the entire process is now in question. Both candidates and several observers have openly accused the ministry of bias and compromise.

It is disturbing to hear reliable reports that the Commissioner is making moves to issue a certificate of return to Mr. Ajogwu Mathias in spite of the overwhelming evidence of malpractice and strong public opposition same with the election being inconclusive. Let it be known that such an action will not stand. Any attempt to force an unpopular candidate on the people of Abbi will not only provoke widespread resistance but will also threaten the peace and unity of the community.

We wish to also remind the public that this same Commissioner has been accused, on multiple occasions, of collecting money during similar processes in other Uzo Uwani communities, including Adani and Nrobo, among others. The people of Abbi refuse to be the next victims of such questionable conduct. We will not allow our sacred traditional institutions and democratic processes to be auctioned off for personal gain.

We therefore call on His Excellency, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, a man of peace and fairness, to urgently intervene and call his Commissioner to order. The good name and peaceful legacy of the Governor must not be dragged into the mud by appointees who may be pursuing personal or political agendas at the expense of the people’s will.

Let the truth stand. Let the voice of the people of Abbi be respected. The days of backdoor leadership imposition are over. Our people deserve a process that is clean, transparent, and accountable. Any short-cut will only worsen distrust in government and deepen division within our community.

We reaffirm our stand for peace, but we will not fold our arms while our rights are being trampled on. We ask all lovers of justice to rise and speak now, before it is too late. The election held in our community was inconclusive and we cannot allow the commissioner to foist a leader on us.

Signed:
Chief V.N Ajogwu
President, Concerned Citizens of Abbi.

"Enugu Now a Security Benchmark for Other States — Dr. Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe"

....... Says First Choice Afro Villa Ltd and Mburubu Construction Company Are Fully Behind Governor Mbah’s Rescue Mission in Enugu.

The Chief Executive Officer of First Choice Afro Villa Ltd and Mburubu Construction Company, who also doubles as the Igwe-elect of Mburubu Ancient Kingdom in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, Dr. Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe, says Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has set a security model for other states to copy.

Speaking with newsmen in Enugu on Thursday on the security reforms under Governor Mbah, the business mogul stated that Enugu was once in serious danger, with criminal attacks, kidnappings, and fear of movement at night taking over daily life—until the Governor came on board and transformed the situation, thus making Enugu a centre of tourist attraction.

According to him, “People were afraid to step outside once it got dark. Businesses closed early. There was no life in the city after 7 PM. But Governor Mbah came on board and changed the story by going straight to the root of the insecurity. He brought in modern technology and increased the presence of security officers across the state. Today, Enugu is different. We now see patrol vans with smart cameras, drones in the air, and officers responding quickly. It’s not magic—it’s planning."

He stated that the once-dreaded Nike-Ugwogo-Opi Road, known for frequent kidnappings, is now safe again for both residents and travelers.

“Before now, that road was a death trap. Now, people drive through without fear, thanks to the Governor’s bold steps. The sit-at-home orders that used to cripple Enugu’s economy every Monday were also addressed with firm action. Governor Mbah did not just make speeches; he ensured those threatening peace were removed. The Monday shutdown almost killed the city. But today, markets open, schools resume, and people go about their business without hiding."

Dr. Onuokaibe also stated that the improved security has encouraged nightlife and economic activity, adding that he decided to bring his real estate business back to Enugu because of what Governor Mbah is doing.

“Go to Ogui Road or Independence Layout now, you’ll see young people hanging out again. Restaurants are back in business. That’s what peace does. Enugu now enjoys security more than any other state in the South East. It is on record that our weekends are now one of the best because people all over the country visit our state to catch fun and go back because they are sure of their safety. On a personal note, I brought my business down to Enugu because of what Governor Mbah did in the security sector."

He also described Governor Mbah as a man who has refused to allow evil to gain control over Enugu but someone that is seriously committed to protecting and saving the lives of the people.

“Mbah is not just sitting in office. He is fighting for the safety of our lives and future. He’s not afraid to take action where it matters. Enugu’s growing revenue shows that investors are regaining confidence. Nobody wants to invest where there’s no security. But today, with over ₦144 billion generated in revenue by late 2024, we can see that safety is bringing in money and development,” he said.

He also praised Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for turning the state into a construction site, saying that without security, all the ongoing projects wouldn’t have been ongoing because contractors would be fearing for their lives.

He, however, called on residents of Enugu State to support the Governor’s ongoing efforts by being alert, reporting strange movements, and helping to protect the peace, while also reiterating the commitment of First Choice Afro Villa Ltd and Mburubu Construction Company in supporting his administration.

“This progress is for all of us. The least we can do is to help keep it going. Enugu has been rescued—we must not allow it to fall back. We at First Choice Afro Villa Ltd and Mburubu Construction Company are solidly behind him, and we will do our best to support and promote his administration."

I want to specially thank your respected traditional and religious leader, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Yusuf Sambo Abubakar, the Sarikin Hausawa of Enugu State. His fatherly role and wisdom have continued to unite the Muslim faithful in the state. His voice of peace, guidance, and understanding has helped in building a peaceful and focused Muslim community.

Eid al-Adha is not just about celebration, but a time to show kindness, give to the needy, and draw closer to Allah. As the Qur’an says in Surah Al-Hajj (22:37), “It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is piety from you that reaches Him.” May your sacrifices this season bring spiritual upliftment, love for your neighbours, and continued growth for your families.

As you gather with loved ones and share in the blessings of Eid, may Allah (SWT) accept all your prayers, reward your good deeds, and bless our state with peace and progress. Let us all keep working together to make Enugu State a home where peace, justice, and fairness thrive. Eid Mubarak!

PoliticsHon. Atu Visits U.S. Heritage Foundation,advocates Ideology-driven Politics by Kizito49(op): 7:05am On Apr 30, 2025
The Member Representing Enugu North and South Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu, and other members of the House of Representatives Parliamentary Friendship Group between Nigeria and the United States of America have called for the practice of politics driven by ideology across the world.

Hon. Atu made this call on Tuesday, during a programme with the Conservative-led Heritage Foundation, which was held in Washington, D.C., United States of America.

Addressing the press, Hon. Atu stated that ideology should shape political participation and programmes globally, especially in Africa and Nigeria, as this would help usher in leaders whose actions are consistently guided by their principles and long-term policy commitments.

“We cannot continue to operate political systems without ideological clarity. When leaders and parties are driven by ideas, not just power, it becomes easier to hold them accountable.”

“We are here to engage institutions like the Heritage Foundation because they offer a model of how ideological convictions can influence legislation and governance positively. Africa, and Nigeria in particular, needs that shift.”

On the visit to Washington, D.C., Hon. Atu explained that they were at the Heritage Foundation to explore areas of legislative collaboration between the United States Conservative Think Tank and Nigeria's National Assembly. He noted that the Parliamentary Group is also scheduled to visit other political institutions in the U.S., including the Congress.

Addressing the Nigerian delegation, Dr. James Jay Carafano, the Senior Counselor to the President at the Heritage Foundation, noted that the visit came at an important time and would give both countries a chance to strengthen democratic values and share parliamentary experiences.
