When will you guys ever get tired of this Men of God being rich and churches story story story. U guys have said Jesus wasn't rich but I beg to disagree. 1. He could afford to just send his disciples to arrange a never used colt 2. With just a word he could arrange an upper room for the Last Supper 3. He had super expensive perfume poured on him 4.His cloak was so expensive the Roman soldiers chose to rather win it by lottery rather than tear it up. 5. He had a rich man donate his tomb for him
In the bible the priests and Kings were always richer than the people so all talk of Jesus being 'poor' is balderdash. Serve your God, be useful to your world and stop criticizing your pastors. Afterall Oyedepo and his Ministry employ and sustain thousands of people directly and indirectly. |

LordElNou: If you are insinuating that this man is a philanthropist, then he apparently hasn't done enough. Yes he hasn't if it's only his church members and some few others can point to his philanthropic achievements. And what you have stated here still reeks of a financial gains for the empire and the welfare that should normally come from organisations such as educational institutions.
In whatever way you see it, the institutions you above stated were established with intentions of financial returns (to whomever), that auditorium built is still not philanthropy, it may be with the intention of comfortably accommodating those he had spread and he's still spreading some gospel to but, you see, logically and religiously, there's more to being a cleric than to preach, the clergyman should do better than what the Bill Gates and the Warren Buffets do in terms of charity too, those guys are not even the religious types and yet you must agree with me that they have touched lives more than many of these clergymen here in Nigeria. They shouldn't just pray for the prosperity of the congregants, they should better lives from what they have earned than what they are doing at present. Not necessarily giving out money and food all the time or something, but making facilities more accessible to their fellow men and not just their church members.
I'm not even Catholic but I acknowledge their generous missionary works. I have many friends spread across from the pentecostal division with whom I chat with a lot over these church tithing and philanthropy subjects, largely, the Orthodox have performed better, especially the Catholic Church. I'm no fan of T.B. Joshua, but what I hear of him in terms of giving out is impressive. There are other non-famous churches too whose heads are kind men, it's only sad they are not known.
I just think that these men should restrategise on how church funds can do better in the lives of the members of the society than what we have now, and not just the members of their respective churches. Na wa o. You have a LG council chairman, a House of Assembly Member, House of rep member, a senator representing. How many people have they impacted upon? You yourself in the the little sphere of yours, how many lives have you changed? Abeg change starts with your own little sphere then spreads. The man has churches, secondary schools and universities and they all have workers who are grateful to him for their monthly salaries who also have dependents as well. He is doing enuff abeg |

bankylan: When you read comments by Nigerian youths, one will not be surprised at the level of mental deficiency in the country. It does not take any intelligence or creativity to criticize!
Most Nigerians are mentally lazy and believe that if you are rich, then you must be dubious. I know of Bishop Oyedepo and Pastor Matthew very well, and I must say that despite my education and years of work, I don't know one tenth of what these men know, and I aspire to read at least a tenth of how wide they read.
There are thousands of Nigerian Pastor, and only about 10 are rich...It is then very unintelligent for anyone to say that Nigerian Pastors are rich. Show me one rich pastor in Nigeria, I will show you 200 that can not send their children to good schools. The two Pastors I mentioned are men of God who at the same time have their businesses. I know Winners and KICC, and the folks there are not poor. There are captains of industries in these churches. Go to KICC , and see men and women who are doing well and still serving God. If these people who are more educated, intelligent and doing well in life more than many jobless Nairalanders are going to church and pay their tithes, is it not stupid for any jobless man to say the folks in Church are poor. What does a poor have to give in the first place.
It is intelligent to know how much churches make and how much they spend in a month, then you will know the truth. Winners Chapel owns Covenant University, KICC owns Kings University....and Covenant University charges lesser than St Gregory Obalende- a Catholic secondary school charges per term.
Does anyone know that Pastor Matthew own a rice farm here in Nigeria that is about 20 times bigger than the one owned by a state in which his farm is situated? Does anyone know that this man stands to Preach 3 hours at his age, yet many young men in their thirties can not stand for 30 minutes......Now a know, it does not take intelligence to criticize. So so so well said...these men have read the bible so much that they correct the teleprompter atimes. They read wide, write and still have time for their businesses. Last year Oyedepo was in Uyo till 3am and yet he was preaching in church by 6am and didn't stop till the last service by 12.30. I salute his grace amn. |

johndwayy: So wot is now d advantage and pride in knowing hw to speak and undastands ones mother tongue? Pls u guys shud enumerate 5 major importance and advantages of speaking and understanding your mother tongue.,if nt majorly for d purpose of favouritism, tribalism and corruption especially here in nigeria. English ,which is our official language and the mother tongue of the british pipo is spoken across Uk and the US, Are they nt progressing more than us in all areas? I'm nt trying to rubbish our native languages oh, bt I want us to see the unity in our diversity and nt trying to promote our tribes above the rest cos that will always bring resentment and hatred.
Btw...I can speak and understand 2 major languages in the south-south, bt I can't see any importance or pride in it other than tribalistic tendencies. So no regrets if u can't speak ur mother tongues.......I'm out. I think you are getting it all wrong here. The british people you talked about have Welsh, Cockney et al and in the US, Spanish is even spoken more than english sef. Our culture is what makes us unique. Europe used it to their advantage buh instilled divisions among us which we imbibed and suffer till today. Akwa Ibom Isong o Annang Mma Igbo kwenu Yoruba mon ki yin o Obolom tighi Efik mmekom o |
