PoliticsDrink Your Oil, We Would Eat Our Yams” – Northern Chieftain Tells Niger Delta by kkjj(op): 3:44pm On Jun 06, 2016
Senator Joseph Kennedy N Waku, (JKN Waku), the stormy petrel of the Middle Belt was elected senator for the Benue North West Constituency of Benue State, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in 1999. Not long after he came into national renown following his controversial call for a military coup on the claim that President Olusegun Obasanjo was derailing the democracy project. Since then he has been an unrepentant critic of President Obasanjo, and a major political figure in the North. Waku is not only a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC but also of the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF. In this interview, he speaks on current national issues. Excerpts:

By Joseph Erunke

What is your reaction to the renewed insurgency by militants in the Niger Delta?

In the first place, what were the offences committed by these people before they were pardoned? Are they not criminals? If I were the president, I would jail them.

So, are you ruling out dialogue as proposed by some people as a way of resolving the problem?

What kind of dialogue? Let them bring to table what they want. Let them do what they are doing, they will also suffer it. Are they also not suffering when they ruin the economy? Are they not facing the same problem like you and I? They are talking of marginalization today.

If you create Biafra today, is Biafra solidly Igbo’s? It’s not. When you go there, you would find a southern minority who will tell you that they don’t want to be part of it, even among the Igbo. Some Igbo will tell you that they don’t want it. If there is definitive kind of discrimination against certain segments of the country, that needs to be addressed because injustice creates dissatisfaction. If there have been injustices against one particular group in this country, let’s address it and not by taking the law into their hands.

That is criminality. We are also affected but we want to take it in a matured approach. You cannot go and begin to destroy state apparatus in order to achieve your agitation, it is against the law. I am not in a position to talk about which contract was revoked because I am not involved in that.

If those contracts were illegally awarded without going through the due process and the current administration wants to follow due process, what is bad about that? Go and do your investigation on that contract to see whether the old law that qualifies one for such contracts were made. What do you award contracts to militants for? In the first place, the name ‘militant’ is criminality. It is only this country that somebody will come back and say I am a militant and then ‘you award him contract.’ If they claim to be agitators as they are saying, then let them come out with their demands and not by holding the state to ransom.

Now, how would you want the government to handle this situation?

My advice is that you can’t take government for ransom. If their livelihoods have been damaged considerably by the pipelines and they have nowhere to go, let there be adequate compensation to them. It is not to take laws into their hands. And by the way, let me be honest with you, this is natural resources; nobody owns it and nobody farms it but by virtue of the location that you find yourself. If there is ecological diversification and you need to do something for your livelihood, then you table this issue to the federal government so that there would be amicable resolution

Giving the adverse effects of their actions, will it not be better to seek dialogue?

What do they need? Let them come out and tell government that ‘this has been our farmland, it has been devastated, we have no land to farm anymore’ and then bring a proposal to the federal government. This is how it should be done than issuing threats. If I were the president, I would have ended that thing by now.

How would you have done it?

Yes, by closing the whole thing down. Before oil came, didn’t this country exist? So, what are you talking about? We have been blindfolded and Nigeria became so lazy, a nation of cheap money. Before the oil, we had cocoa, we had palm oil, groundnut and pyramid, and those were the things that actually helped to develop the oil.

At a point, we in Benue challenged them that okay,’ let them go and drink their oil, we would eat our yams and then see who will survive.’

PoliticsFG Imposing More Hardships On Nigeria With VAT Increment – Gov. Fayose Ekiti Sta by kkjj(op): 11:22pm On Apr 10, 2016
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has said that the Federal Government was planning to impose more hardships on Nigerians by increasing Value Added Tax (VAT) from the current five per cent to 10 per cent, describing the move as insensitive to the plight of Nigerians who are suffering from the bad economic policies of the President Mohammadu Buhari led All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had said on Thursday, in Lagos that the current five per cent VAT rate in the country was very low, and went on to add that the Federal Government would increase the taxpayer base this year. Reacting through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said any increment in VAT or any other tax being paid by Nigerians at this time will further make life unbearable for the people.

“Nigerians are suffering and the little that they have, federal government is planning to take back through VAT increment, this is wickedness! “Under three months, electricity tariff was increased despite epileptic power supply, N50 stamp duty was imposed on bank customers for money received into their accounts via electronic transfer, cash and cheques; petrol is being sold for as high as N400 per litre and now they are talking about increasing VAT to 10 per cent, this is the height of insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians,” he said.

The governor, who lamented the increase in the cost of living of Nigerians, occasioned by the bad economic policies of the Federal Government, said “even recent figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) revealed that prices of food have hit a record high and inflation is worsening.

“How can government be considering 100 per cent increment in VAT when businesses are folding up, prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed, millions of Nigerians are losing their jobs and those who are still employed are no longer getting paid regularly? “For even contemplating the increment of VAT at this difficult time shows that the Buhari-led government does not care about the welfare of the citizens and only God will save the poor masses from the hands of this government.”

Governor Fayose said rather than imposing more hardships on Nigerians, President Buhari should seek help from experts on how best to revive the country’s economy, adding that; “As at today, the Buhari-led government is yet to show that it has any clue to the revival of the economy.”
PoliticsECOWAS Court To Rule On Dasuki’s Case April 11 by kkjj(op): 4:34pm On Apr 08, 2016
The Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS, says it will on April 11 rule on whether it has the jurisdiction to entertain a case brought before it by the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki

This is contained in a statement issued by the court in Abuja on Thursday.

The case filed with the suit number ECW/CCJ/APP/01/16 was brought before the Court on Nov. 5, 2015, against the Federal Government.

According to the statement, the court’s decision to rule on the case followed a preliminary objection by the counsel to the defendant, Mr T. A. Gadzali.

In the objection raised, Gadzali urged the court not to hear the substantive suit filed by the applicant as the subject of the suit was based on contempt of the order of Nigerian courts.

He added that the only remedy was for the plaintiff to return to the country’s court to commit the government for contempt.

The counsel to the defendant also argued that a similar case was already pending before a Nigerian court and could not therefore be entertained by the ECOWAS Court.

In response, counsel to the plaintiff, Mr Robert Emukpoeruo, stated that a suit could not only be filed before the ECOWAS Court if it were pending before an international court.

Emukpoeruo added that the suit was not founded on contempt but on the defendant’s abuse of the applicant’s human rights.

The applicant, in the suit filed, asked for N500 million as “compensatory damages” against the government of Nigeria.

“This is over his continued detention without charge, invasion of his residence and seizure of his property despite being granted bail by courts of competent jurisdiction.”

The plaintiff, in the suit, also sought a declaration that his continued detention, refusal to allow him travel for medical treatment and seizure of his properties constitute a violation of his human rights.

“This is as guaranteed under the country’s constitution’ and various international instruments to which the country is signatory,” it stated.
Nairaland GeneralFG Returns Petrol Subsidy, Retains Official Pump Prices by kkjj(op): 3:54pm On Apr 03, 2016
The Federal Government on Saturday recommenced the payment of subsidy on petrol as it subsidised the commodity by N5.84 for every litre of premium motor spirit consumed in Nigeria.

Subsidy on petrol was stopped in January after the review of the pricing template of the product by the government.

It also announced that the current official pump prices of petrol would remain at N86 per litre when purchased at filling stations run by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and N86.5 per litre when sold at outlets operated by other oil marketers.

The government further said petrol scarcity would end in a few days, but was silent on the specific day or date.

Figures from the latest pricing templates of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency released on Saturday, showed that the Federal Government was paying N5.84 as subsidy on every litre of petrol sold at non-NNPC filling stations.

The PPPRA is the agency of the Federal Government that regulates the prices of white products — petrol and kerosene, across the country.

According to the agency, the Expected Open Market Price of petrol for non-NNPC stations as at April 2, 2016, was N92.34 per litre, against an official pump price of N86.5 per litre, leaving an under-recovery or subsidy of N5.84 per litre.

Similarly, the template for NNPC-run stations showed that the government was paying N5.80 per litre as subsidy, as the EOMP for outlets in this category was N91.80 per litre as against an official rate of N86 per litre.

The EOMP is the actual cost of petrol without subsidy and comprises of the landing cost of the product as well as its subtotal margins like transporters charge, admin fee, dealers cost, bridging fund, etc.

On the retained pump price of petrol, the Acting Executive Secretary, PPPRA, Mrs. Sotonye Iyoyo, said, “The agency is retaining the retail prices of N86.00 for the NNPC, and N86.50 for the other marketing companies. The pump price of household kerosene also remains unchanged from what it was in the last quarter.

“Therefore, marketers are advised to ensure that there is no price distortion in their respective retail outlets. PPPRA, however, shall continue to monitor the global oil market performances, and come up, at appropriate time, with reasonable changes consistent with the newly-adopted price modulation principles.”

On news making the rounds that the agency was planning to increase the petrol price, Iyoyo urged members of the public to ignore such rumour, as prevailing market indicators do not support such.

She also called on motorists to desist from panic-buying, stressing that “PPPRA was working hard with other sister-organisations to ensure that the current supply and distribution challenges were resolved within the coming days.”

Meanwhile, the agency stated that it had released the second quarter allocations for the supply of petrol, based on the approval of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu.

It said, “In the latest release, the apex national oil company, the NNPC, has 41.74 per cent of the total allocation, while the rest of the oil marketing companies got a total allocation of 58.27 per cent.”

Please Don’t Send Looters to Jail – PDP Official Begs Buhari

The Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Bauchi state, Alhaji Bashir Rimi-Zaya has advised President Muhammadu Buhari against sending those accused of looting the public treasury to jail, stressing that they should be allowed to continue living with the terrible shame they brought upon themselves.

Making this call on Saturday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Bauchi, the state capital, he however requested that all public funds stolen by corrupt officials should be recovered from them.

Rimi-Zaya expressed support to the President on the fight against corruption and efforts at recovering stolen funds, saying “retrieve the loots from the looters but don’t prosecute or send them to jail.

“Anyone who has stolen public fund, even if it is me, should return the exact amount to the public treasury.

“But, I am begging Buhari to set the looters free and allow them to continue to live in terrible shame they have brought to themselves.”

The PDP chieftain further expressed satisfaction with the judiciary in the handling of corruption cases but cautioned that the government should be discerning in some of the matters.
Christianity EtcMuslim Trader Stabbed To Death For Wishing Christians Happy Easter by kkjj(op): 8:25pm On Mar 28, 2016
40-year-old Asad Shah has been murdered for wishing Christians a happy Easter. The Glasgow shopkeeper was stabbed 30 times in his shop after he had praised both the life of Jesus and ‘his beloved Christian nation’.

He died in hospital later on. Police say the murder is religiously motivated and are questioning a 32-year-old man.

Mohammad Faisal, a family friend, said a bearded Muslim wearing a long religious robe entered Mr Shah’s shop and spoke to him in his native language before stabbing him in the head with a kitchen knife.

Mr Shah’s brother, who was working next door, rushed out to find the killer laughing while sitting on the shopkeeper’s bleeding chest.

‘The brother dragged Mr Shah away but the guy continued attacking with the blade,’ said Mr Faisal. ‘They struggled up to the bus stop where Asad collapsed.

‘It was just a clear-cut revenge attack. For posting messages about peace, messages about greeting fellow Christians and Jews.

‘That man must not have been too happy about what he was doing, what he was preaching. It was a well-planned attack. He must have been an extremist.

‘He went straight for the head. He got stomped on the head as well. His brother suffered a slash down his shoulder area because he attacked him with a knife as well.’

Before his death, Mr Shah had wished his friends a ‘Good Friday and a very happy Easter, especially to my beloved Christian nation’.

In his final post, he wrote: ‘Let’s follow the real footstep of beloved holy Jesus Christ and get the real success in both worlds.’

He also spoke out against the Brussels attacks on his Facebook page.

Car TalkOf Road Traffic Accident And Expired Tyres. by kkjj(op): 5:47am On Mar 10, 2016
Following the unfortunate demise of the minister of state for labour and productivity, Mr James Ocholi, SAN his wife, son and driver yesterday in a road traffic accident as a result of a burst tyre, I consider it expedient to put up this piece to raise the consciousness of our populace to the issue of expired tyres and the risk thereof.

I called my driver yesterday and asked, "how many years does a tyre stay before it expires"?

He looked at me like an alien from Mars, an expression that seemed to ask in awe, "does a tyre ever expire"?

Yet he's been driving professionally for over 15 years!

Every tyre has an expiry date after which it is supposed to be replaced , lest it risks a blow-out!

The life span of a tyre from the date of manufacture is four years.

Now, how do you know the date a tyre was manufactured?

It is written on the tyre as four digits!

The first two digits represent the week, while the last two is the year of manufacture.

Please note that the four digits stand alone, not added to any alphabet. Some manufacturers place the asterics sign (*) before and after the four digits , while others simply encycle it.

So, 1612 means that the tyre was manufactured on the 16th week ( last week of April ) in the year 2012. The tyre will therefore expire on the 16th week of 2016.

You may therefore buy a "brand new" tyre which has since EXPIRED or just about to expire!

Some manufacturers however don't state the date of manufacture on their tyres, breaching the estacode thereof. This is common among the "Made in China" brands.

Buying a tyre devoid of manufacturing date is a kin to swallowing a pill without an expiry date. I think it's even worse, because the expired drug can only hurt you, while a burst tyre puts the life of ALL the occupants of the vehicle in jeopardy!

So now that you know, take the pain, bend down, check the date of manufacture of your tyre and do the needful.
CrimeEFCC Recovers $1m In Soakaway Pit, Arrests Wife Of Former Airforce Chief by kkjj(op): 7:24pm On Feb 12, 2016
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested, Lara, the wife of the immediate past Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Adesola Amosu (rtd), over the arms procurement scandal.

Impeccable sources said that Mrs. Lara Amosu was picked up by the EFCC operatives last week in Abuja.
She has been in the custody of the EFCC in Lagos for the past one week.

It was learnt that her lawyer has been battling without success to get her released.
Mrs. Amosu’s arrest followed the alleged discovery of about N3 billion in her bank accounts. She was allegedly holding the money in trust for her husband.

A source said that other properties traced to the former CAS were also being held by his wife and children.
It was reported that the EFCC discovered N17.5 billion in the accounts of wives of three airforce chiefs. The monies were scattered in various banks accounts.
A source familiar with the investigation said that N13 billion was traced to the bank accounts of a wife of a retired Air Vice Marshal, who held strategic position in the Nigeria Air Force (NAF).

In the bank accounts of another wife of a serving senior officer, N1.5 billion was found.
It was learnt that the officers handled the finance, budget and accounts of NAF.
Amosu was arrested two weeks ago by the EFCC over his involvement in the arms scandal.

“Shortly after Amosu was picked up in Abuja, his wife, Lara, was subsequently arrested. Investigations conducted showed that some of the monies the former Chief of Air Staff made through some contracts and procurements in NAF were traced to his wife’s accounts.

“About N3 billion was traced to the wife’s accounts while some assets acquired by the former service chief was in her name and some others in her company’s name.

“So, Lara is an accessory to a crime. The proceeds with her are from the arms funds. As we prosecute her husband, she must also be held accountable,” the source said.
It was further learnt that the wife of Air Vice Marshal J.B. Adigun, Chief of Account and Budget of NAF, has travelled out of the country two weeks ago, shortly after the arrest of her husband. The hurried trip was said to

Adigun has been indicted by the presidential arms panel. He is in the EFCC custody. Several of his properties in Lagos and Abuja have been seized by the antigraft agency. Billions of naira was said to have been traced to Adigun’s wife’s accounts.

It was also learnt that the EFCC retrieved $1 million cash in Amosu’s residence in his residence in Badagary, Lagos.
A source said that the money, in foreign currency, was retrieved when EFCC operatives carried out a search on Amosu’s residence in Badagry.

According to the source: “In continuation of the investigation into the arms probe, the EFCC operatives took Amosu to his residence in Badagry. After a thorough search of the residence, a fresh small ‘soakaway’ pit was discovered in the compound. The operatives suspected foul play, which informed the breaking of the ‘soakaway’. Surprisingly, $1 million was found in it. The money was subsequently confiscated.”

It was also learnt that Air Commodore Akinwale (rtd) who manages the St. Solomon Health Care Limited, an ultra-modern diagnostic centre owned by Amosu, along Adeniyi Jones Avenue in Ikeja, Lagos is still in the custody of the EFCC

The retired airforce officer oversees the medical centre on behalf of Amosu. The diagnostic centre has been sealed off by the anti-graft agency.

Meanwhile, the EFCC is still keeping Amosu, Adigun, and Air Commodore O. Gbadebo in Lagos. A source said that the anti-graft agency has been taking the indicted officers to assets traced to them, considered to have been acquired through funds illegally realised from the arms procurement. Some of the identified properties have been sealed off.

Amosu, Adigun and Gbadebo were arrested two weeks ago in Abuja. Impeccable sources said that the trio were flown into Lagos in an airforce aircraft on a Sunday and discreetly kept in a hotel.
The arrest and interrogation of Amosu is coming after it was reported in the November 30, 2015 edition, that the Federal Government had directed the EFCC to prosecute the ex-CAS.
Amosu, Adigun, Gbadebo and other indicted officers are being investigated over 10 NAF contracts totalling $930,500,690 awarded to Societe D’ Equipments Internationaux (SEI) Nig Ltd. between January 2014 and February 2015.

The award letters, according to the arms probe panel, contained misleading delivery dates, suggesting fraudulent intent in the award process.
Operatives are also grilling the ex-chief of army staff and the two senior officers over the procurement of two used Mi-24V Helicopters instead of the recommended Mi-35M series at the cost of $136,944,000.
The helicopters were discovered to be excessively priced and not operationally airworthy at the time of delivery.
The arms probe panel established that a brand new unit of Mi-24V Helicopter goes for about $30 million. The helicopters were delivered without rotor blades and upgrade accessories.
The three of them are also being grilled over the procurement of four used Alpha-Jets for the NAF at the cost of $7,180,000.
Whereas NAF paid for four used Alpha-Jets, the panel confirmed that only two of the Alpha-Jet aircraft were ferried to Nigeria after cannibalisation of engines from the NAF fleet.
They are also being investigated in the procurement of 36D6 Low Level Air Defence Radar for NAF, which was awarded to GAT Techno Dynamics Ltd in April 2014 at the cost of $33 million under his watch.

The arms panel averred that the radars were excessively priced as a complete set of such radars goes for $6 million.
Acting on the recommendations made by the 13-man presidential committee auditing arms procurement between 2007 and 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari, had ordered the EFCC to conduct further investigation on the indictment of Amosu, former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh (rtd); Air Marshal M.D. Umar (Rtd), Maj- Gen. ER Chioba (Rtd), AVM I.A. Balogun (Rtd), AVM A.G. Tsakr (Rtd), AVM A.G. Idowu (Rtd), AVM AM Mamu, AVM O.T Oguntoyinbo, and AVM T Omenyi. Others were: AVM J.B. Adigun, AVM R.A. Ojuawo, AVM JA Kayode-Beckley, Air Cdre S.A. Yushau (Rtd), Air Cdre A.O. Ogunjobi, Air Cdre G.M.D. Gwani, Air Cdre SO Makinde, Air Cdre A.Y. Lassa, Col. N. Ashinze and Lt Col. M.S. Dasuki (Rtd). Badeh had been in the custody of EFCC since Monday. Over N29 billion and $2 billion had been expended on the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) procurement activities alone between 2007 and 2015.
Christianity EtcTomorrow May Be Too Late….... by kkjj(op): 9:13am On Feb 11, 2016
Dear Friend, a loving, gracious and patient God has made it possible for you to read this Gospel through this forum today. May be you have rejected His offer of salvation, and eternal life through faith in His son Jesus Christ. God loves you, and that is why He has decided to give you one more chance, NOW, TODAY to accept His Son as your Lord and personal Savior, so my dear friend, if you end up in Hell, you’ll have no one to blame but Yourself, because you are making a decision FOR or AGAINST God’s Son, Jesus Christ NOW.
Why should you even postpone your salvation till tomorrow when the Bible says that,’’ Do not boast of (yourself and) tomorrow for you know not what tomorrow may bring forth.’’ (Proverb 27:1). Oh, how true that is! So many people that also planned to achieve so many things TODAY but died YESTERDAY. Some of them, just like you are reading this message TODAY, had heard the Gospel; were convicted by the Holy Spirit and Word of God; and they had expected to get saved ‘’SOMEDAY’’ Unfortunately for them their SOMEDAY never came.
Today, if you will hear His voice, harden not your hearts, (Heb 4 : 7(b)), or you are someone who is ‘’Gospel hardened’’ you’ve said ‘’NO to God so many times that the love of God, the death of Christ and the pleading of the Holy Spirit through God’s word, have little or no effect upon you whatsoever? If so, then tell me what if God would take you at your word and say,’’ Well I have given you many opportunities to get saved but you have been rejecting my son as your Lord and Personal Saviour, so I’m taking your word, for I will withdraw my offer of eternal life for you in Heaven and I’ll let you end up in hell with all its torments. No I won’t bother you any more’’, what then my friend? If the Holy Spirit of God should stop striving for your soul TODAY like the Bible says in Genesis 6:3(A) ‘’Then the Lord said,’’ My Spirit shall not forever dwell and strive with man’’. You would be as sure of being in Hell FOREVER.
Finally, let me plead with you in love for your soul, and in view of eternity, to acknowledge that you are a sinner who can’t save yourself: then repent of your sins, and trust in the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ that cleanseth from all sin, Yes believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as your own personal Saviour, and friend, if you will do that right NOW, The word of God in Romans 10:9 ‘’ Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart and believe that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved’’ which cannot lie says that you will be saved and thank God you will be saved for all and eternity. AND REMEMBER THIS IS FOR ETERNITY.
